My company needed some lab equipment shipped from Massachusetts to California. Workspace Moving Solutions (NC)'s partner agent is Chipman Relocation; the three-man crew was actually from Monroe Transportation. Scheduling was arranged by Workspace and email/phone communication leading up to the day was good, especially with any delays or changes. Ended up being a total of six pallets of lab equipment to unload. Bigger items such as a freezer, centrifuges, orbital shaker, and oil press were fully unwrapped by the guys. The crew placed items inside rooms per my team's direction, brought their own dollies. No gloves, although these weren't the heaviest or most expensive kind of delicate instruments, that did strike me. Not sure about what kind of insurance was included. Other boxes were not unpacked but brought into lab storage rooms or appropriate warehouse space. We had a rough inventory list since it was packed by the East Coast partner company. No major damage or complaints about the delivery and movers. read more

Chipman did our office relocation which was recommended by the building manager. Unfortunately I experienced pretty shady billing practices. At first the supervisor came with 4 drivers and started complaining how long it will take for the move and asked how many hours I was quoted by the company. I said 7. He then said we should be ok. They finished the move in 4 hours and that's with them disappearing for 45 minutes in between 2 offices (which is a 10 minute commute). Then when it came time to sign the paperwork, he tried to slip in that they worked for 8 hours. When I confronted him, he tried to act like i say "7 hours minimum, which I did not". I manually switched the hours on paper and signed off. A couple of days later, I receive an invoice for 7 hours. When I responded stating that the work was less hours, I was told "sorry, I sent out the invoices without getting updated information". How convenient....... So twice they tried to get more money from my company than they actually worked. Shady practice all around. I would steer clear of this moving company. read more

My company contracted Chapman to handle my move. As soon as we arrived at our storage unit I noticed some artwork missing. Went through the process and was paid $2500 by the insurance company. These paintings were passed down and have sentimental value that can't be replaced. Our things were in storage for a couple years and we have now moved and going through our things. I have so much missing. Clothes, exercise machine, portable ac units (2), patio furniture, kitchen items, a computer, and who knows what else. It is almost like on of our crates were not delivered. I cannot recommend this company to handle your move. They are not responsive and just point you to insurance. No concern when you call. The "trace" process is just something to put you off a week or so. I do not believe they even looked for my items. My move required them to pack everything and ship so no excuse for the loss of items. Get yourself a Uhaul and hire people to pack and load. Much cheaper and you see your things loaded and unloaded. In all the moves I have done for work (over 10 in the last 12 years) this is the one and only time I had full service moving and the one and only time I have lost thousands of dollars worth of items. read more

We hired this company for a local move. The guys were nice and respectful, they went out of their way to help us. My biggest complaint is that they used SO MUCH PAPER unnecessarily. I'm talking an absurd amount of paper. Like they wrapped plastic straws and plastic utensils in many large sheets of paper. They used 3 large sheets of paper to wrap a box of aluminum foil. Same for the saran wrap, and the wax paper. It seemed like this was a strategy: use a ton of paper to add to the number of boxes, which results in a higher fee when you are paying per box. We used Mayflower Moving (United Vanlines) and Chipman Relocation & Logistics for our March 8th move between Northern CA and Upstate NY was a disaster in every way. Do not recommend. Crew was late in CA. Driver lost the key to the shuttle truck that had all of the 16 cartons ($900) for monitors, mirrors, framed prints, tvs. All of these valuable and invaluable objects were taken away in moving blankets. We were assured that they would be properly packed before loaded on the semi. When unloaded in NY on April 18th, these special, breakable things were still in blankets; and moniotrs were stuffed into a giant lamp box. nearly 40 boxes or objects did not have inventory tags. 5 lamps/pieces of furniture sustained damages up to $3000. A door in our home was stained with oil. While we were eventually refunded the $ for the cartons and packing services and recieved a $150 stipend for an $800 door, our move which was supposed to cost $16,000 ended up costing us far more in money, time, stress and aggravation. Nearly 2 months later and our furniture remains damaged with no resoution. Do not use Mayflower and Chipman. read more

This was by far the smoothest, easiest move I have ever had. Coming from a military family, it was one of many for me. Without a doubt the success can be attributed to Rose Olsen, who coordinated our move. From the first call she was on top of it. Not just running her business but making her business and process fit my move and my life. She asked the right questions, checked in often and then followed up. Moving can be one of the most stressful things to go through and yet Rose made obvious that she had it taken care of... all while treating her customers with the best customer service! It is clear she loves her job and it is very obvious how great she is at it! The crew also was so hard working and careful with my things. Led by Steve, they packed our items, loaded their truck, drove 350 miles and unloaded into our new house in record time! Not a complicated move, a dozen pieces of furniture, 80 miles. For insurance, I chose basic coverage. When the furniture arrived, six of the twelve pieces were broken. Not scratched, not dented, but broken. All were antiques. Chipman's lack of response to this incident was indicative to their overall trend of inattentiveness. The insurance settlement was $159. And I'm stuck with the entire restoration bill. We just moved across country. Decided to use Chipman (United) I must say they have great customer service and are very professional. John ,our driver knows his stuff and hires competent help, Quenisha , customer service, followed up with multiple phone c alls before during and after delivery. As with most moves ours did not go perfect but this is how I judge a company. How they handle problems.Everything was smooth delivered within the time frame they said they would deliver. When unpacking the next day we notice our TV had been damaged I contacted customer service and she sent me a form to fill out and send to the claims department. I heard back from them in about 5 days much to my dismay the value that they were going to give me was much less than I was happy with. Again I contacted customer service and Quenisha stated that she would contact claims for me and have them give me a call. 5 minutes later I received a call from Bret in the claims department I explained to her that this was a 4 month old TV and that they had packed the unit and that I had not done the damage. She told me that she understood and believed me. She stated she would talk to her manager and explain my side of the story and wouyld get back to me. Within 3 hours she did indeed send me an email stating that they would be refunding the full amount for my TV! As stated earlier how you should judge a company is how they deal with things when they don't go perfect. We had a pretty terrible experience. We are a military family and Chipman picked up our moving contract from Roseville, CA to MO. They started out really promising with a professional surveyor who was kind, thorough, and made all the right promises. The gal who answers the phone was also very kind and chipper which gave me so so much hope. Essentially where everything went south was with the actual packing. Pictures were not padded individually resulting in scratches, our flatscreen was packed upside down and with other items shoved inside of the box, furniture wasn't padded before being placed on the shuttle truck which meant we ended up with quite a bit of damage. Our driver was Andy A. and essentially damage was found in almost every box he packed. Coffee cups were broken while packing and he still packed them without even saying anything to us. He dropped multiple boxes in the home and at least 2 down the stairs. Statements of "satisfaction" were pre written and honestly I felt bullied into signing them. It is hard to find good and honest movers and we just didn't find that with Chipman. The other problem is they only scheduled is for a 2 day pack and load move with just over 9,000 lbs. Surveyor said there would most likely be a team of 2 to pack and then 3-4 the second day to finish packing and move. On the second day they sent the same two guys Andy A and another fella who actually did an amazing job but there was no way they were going to complete the task. I had to call David the manager who then turned everything on me as if it was my fault that they could not complete the job because I was unable to allow them to stay past 6 the day prior (military contract states bids should be made with the expectation of an 8-5 day). From the lack of responsiveness, to the fact that they didn't show up on our scheduled move date, and now the fact that they blew through our delivery date and we have no end in site as to when we will receive our truck full of everything we own! I moved from Pleasanton to Los banos last week and Chipman relocations was the company my employer uses. Good choice! The team arrived on time. Ivan led a team of 3 and had excellent knowledge of moving techniques and how to load the truck as if he was a master at tetris. That always makes for a quick load. No damage loading to my furniture or offloading. No damage to my door frames which is a big deal. They were professional and friendly, wore the proper shoe covers and put down protective mats and blankets to protect my hard wood floors. On the move in they made sure I had things where I wanted them. On scheduling Rose was attentive and made sure we had a date and time all set to go. Moves are stressful and time consuming. My recent move from California to Washington using Chipman relocation services was, despite a couple of nitpicks, excellent. The two people who really helped to make this a great experience: Ryan Fichtner and Cimber Dahlstrom. Ryan was one of my first points of contacts and was the who took a survey of my belongings, explained the details of the moving process, and provided me with an estimate. I really appreciated his transparency. He was upfront and honest. Ryan then handed me off to my moving coordinator Cimber Dahlstrom. Cimber has been there with me every step of the way with excellent communication and constant updates on my moving process. She has been highly available to respond to my questions and concerns via my preferred method of communication. Ryan told me I was going to be in great hands with Cimber and boy was he right! There are only a couple of things I can critique on my experience with Chipman Relocation through United Van Lines. The first one is that they are a little more expensive than competitors. Ryan was upfront with me about this (which I greatly appreciated) and it is worth it for the high quality of service and also their insurance is really good and from what I can tell, much better than their competitors. It was comforting to know that if something did happen to my belongings, I would be compensated for them. Other than that, it did take a while (25 days) for my stuff to be delivered. This was within the estimated delivery date, so I was prepared for it, and I'm sure there is a good reason for this so this is not that big of a deal, I just wanted to leave an honest review. Overall I would highly recommend this company as a relocation service to anyone. John C., if your company does not move plants, why did your move coordinator initially discuss the move of our 45 year old tree in regards to transporting it? Unfortunately, your representative denied knowing anything about having discussed it with my husband on the day of our actual move. But my husband has the emails of their communication and even took a photo and video of it when communicating with your representative. The day of our actual move, we were then told that they couldn't move the tree! We were put in a very difficult situation, as the new owner's were moving in the next week, and we were moving across the country. My husband called several times that day to get in touch with you, but we never heard back from you! I do appreciate the nominal amount that your company paid toward the cost, that we paid to another company, that we had to scramble to find that moved plants. However, we had to pay an exorbitant amount for this mistake at the last minute! Our tree did finally arrive about 6 weeks later. It was incredibly distressed and I didn't know if it would survive. Thankfully, we had a horticulturist help with it's recovery. If you're interested, please see the raving review on yelp I gave to Plant Concepts. Other complaints that I did not previously post; We had 2 separate shipments, one was to go to our new address, the other was going to long term storage. We had a couple of TV's and our patio set that were supposed to be delivered to our new address, but they were sent to long term. My husband has spoken with a woman with your company several times about our missing items. Eventually, they were located in long term, but now they can't find a truck to transport them! Our move was the end of April and it is now the first week of August! Some of the boxes that were delivered to our new address were dented in on the sides. Upon opening, we discovered that several things had not even been wrapped, as a result several things were cracked. In some boxes, it appeared that things had just been stuffed in the wrong box. In one box of toiletry items from the bathroom, I found a pair of my PJ's and undergarments. We haven't opened several of our boxes yet, and I'm concerned as to what to expect. We also discovered that they failed to pack our table linens that were stored in our banquette. It seemed to us that many of the packers weren't properly trained. My husband and I have made numerous corporate moves across the country and internationally, which have all ben outstanding! I regret to say that our experience with Chipman was not even close. One positive thing that I will say is about the gentleman who oversaw the physical move. He was very hard working and friendly. The fact that the only response that we got from John C. today, is that Chipman doesn't move plants, is very telling about the kind of service we received. Our experience with Chipman on a cross country move was horrific. We were told when we contracted with them, the movers would spend 2 days packing and 2 days loaded. The day on the move the movers decided to rush the process to one day- our belongings were sloppily packed and left on the street for hours waiting to be loaded on their van. We purchased their additional insurance which turned out to be a waste of $750 dollars. There was no assistance in the claims process and only one of the damaged items was addressed. There was a total lack of coordination between the the Chipman office staff, the packers, the van driver and the unpackers. We waited more than six months for an inadequate settlement for lost and damaged items. Find another company who will navigate you through the entire move. read more

I had such a time schedule and was unsure where I was going to move, but knew I needed to be out of my current place by the end of July. Chipman worked with the unexpected and made sure that I was able to reach my moving goals. On moving day the team that assisted with the move was AMAZING! They packed all of my things with care and was able to completely move me from Richmond to Davis in 2 hours!!!! Sorry, a bit disappointed in Chipman's level of service for our cross-country move. We picked Chipman because of its overall Yelp rating and not the cost as it was not the lowest bidder for this move. Certainly, people were very nice and interactions pleasant all around but the things making the move problematic for us were: * Day before the United crew was to pack and ship our furniture, our estimator called and told us there would be an extra $800+ fee because it was decided that a long-haul truck was too big for our location (curb marked red in front of our home) and a smaller truck would be brought in for initial loading with the furniture then re-loaded onto a long-haul truck for the cross-country move. We told him that we would cancel the move before paying another $800 on top of $9500 since our neighbors had been moved a couple of weeks earlier using a long-haul truck and such vehicles were quite common in our residential area. Furthermore, on-site estimates by other re-location firms did not require initial use of a smaller truck. We finally prevailed and the pick-up using the long-haul van was not a problem. In fairness, our Chipman estimate was virtual because of COVID, so no estimator from Chipman visited our home. However, if access is a real concern whether the estimate is on-site or virtual, this needs to be checked out by Chipman before telling the customer how much the move will cost. * Chipman/United packed and shipped a lot of framed artwork and photographs with our furniture. Much of the artwork is original and in custom-made frames. The artwork and frames were in new condition prior to being packed having been hung new on the walls of the home that was packed by Chipman/United. During unpacking we were astounded to see how poor the packing of our artwork had been. Multiple boxes of pictures were packed two per box with the front of one picture frame pushed directly against the back of another frame and its metal hanging hardware. No packing material had been used to separate the pictures! Incredible! After opening the first box, we took pictures showing how the packing had been performed (see attached photos). Multiple frames were scratched, dented or marked with imprints of the hanging hardware on the backs of the frames they were pushed against without any kind of packing material to separate the frames. The scratches, dents and imprints are not huge but they are very much there permanently marking the frames. * We requested $727 for damaged picture frames and missing lamp parts that rendered a Tiffany-style desk lamp useless. We were offered $500 immediately but indicated we would settle only for the requested amount. An estimator from a company representing the insurer of the move came out and decided the damage was "pre-existing". How any reasonable person can come to such a conclusion logically is beyond comprehension especially when marks on one frame mirror the hanging hardware on the back of another. Yet, Chipman was evidently satisfied and denied the claim for the requested amount. Wondering how the "pre-existing damage" argument would hold up in small-claims court. * We were told that we should likely receive a partial refund because the shipping weight was over-estimated. We haven't heard further about this. Apart from these items, the service was ok. read more

Not good at helping customers. If you decide to use this company, I would suggest reconsidering. The sales people are nice but work on commission and disappear after move day. In regards to move day, Take photos and create an inventory off all of your items. Chipman will take zero accountability about your stuff once you "sign" their paper work. We requested them to pack our closet items. Shoes, clothes, ect. They lost the entire box of my wife's shoes, a 10ft ladder, & a paper shredder, and are doing little to nothing to help. It is truly unfortunate as they were not the cheapest company to use but, I felt they would take the best care of my family during the process.
