I contacted this company in Fair Oaks because a client of mine referred them. My 90 year mom had been living in an independent living apartment in Citrus Heights (The Crest) that decided to shut down the kitchen and take away the housekeeping and security. Since mom only had a microwave, we moved her in less than 30 days so she wouldn't have to figure out to eat. She had also had the apartment treated for the last 30 days for bedbugs (which appears to be an issue here). When I contacted A Better Moving Company, I informed them that the treated room was not being moved. We only needed a couple of loveseats, a chair a few tables and a small hutch moved a couple of miles. The gentleman I talked to said fine. When the movers got there, they went to see the scope of the work and I showed them the living room. When they headed back to the bedroom, I told them that the bedroom furniture was not going as precaution even though no bedbugs had been seen nor had mom been bitten for about a week. They left the apartment and before they returned, the owner, Steve, called and said that they were not going to move my mom and it would be best for her to wait another week (already waited 4 weeks of treatment) or walk away from everything she owned, even though it was clear of any contamination.. They left her high and dry because one of the movers literally lied and told the owner that he had seen bedbugs. If this was an issue when I originally called and explained the situation, I should have been told at that time that they would not move my mom. Fortunately, my assistant was able to rent a U-Haul, a dolly and some blankets for the afternoon while I made a frantic call to my husband and son-in-law. I headed to U-Haul got the truck and had her moved that day. Mom has been settled for a month now and there is no trace of bedbugs, Steve! I was very happy that they could accommodate my schedule and had good communication. The movers arrived at the destination on time, but had moved some things not on the list and did not bring others. Luckily we will be going back to the original place and can straighten it out so not fatal. The only real downside was having to pay for boxes that were not in the original estimate and were only used in transport and then were given back before the movers left so it seems like that should have been a lesser charge, but I would give them 4.5 if that was allowed. read more

Moving is challenging..but if you want to make it harder than it has to be these are your guys. You WILL be paying them and more $ the next day to get the stuff they didn't want to move and have to do it yourself. Paid a lot of money to move about 6 miles. A few of the workers were good, a few had attitudes and one was lazy. I don't think they like working past 4pm ..as moving day went on we had similar experiences to other reviews..they did not place boxes in the areas they were instructed to...things were just thrown in the garage. A few workers literally started throwing things into the trucks and appeared annoyed to be working. At the end of the move we were presented with a large bill and all of the workers (some earned it, most did not) surround you waiting for their tips. It was awkward and inappropriate. It's unacceptable to pay for movers and the next day you go to clean the home you moved out of to find they DID NOT get all of the items out of the house. We had to spend more money to rent a truck and spent 6 hours moving stuff ourselves. For us, this was a disaster and I would not recommend them to anyone. We used this company as it was a referral from our real estate agent. I do not want to move again..but if I had to I would not go on a referral from a real estate agent as they are just working with moving companies to keep each other in business. Which means we needed a moving company to move us from Sacramento to Fresno. I called several companies and chose A Better Moving Company because of the excellent recommendation and the customer service I received right off the bat. Alex helped with my with initial contact. He was very professional and articulate (after you call around and realize you've got some crack heads on the other line you appreciate this!). After I described what I was moving he gave me a quote over the phone. We then scheduled a walk through to ensure that the quote was accurate. My appointment for the walk through was at noon the following day. Jeff and Jeremy were there two minutes before our appointment and before I got there! I really appreciated that they valued my time (I was on my lunch break and had to get back to work asap) and were there when they said they would be! I pointed out the various items that I would be taking with me. It impressed me that they took notes! I also gave them the heads up that I'll be partying it up the night before so I may be hung over and asked what was the latest they could move me. They were very accommodating! They said they'd be there at 9am. I was scared they would try and move me at 6am. Thank god they didn't! I was hurting the next day! I asked them what I needed to do and they said nothing. I pretty much have everything together and to not worry about a thing. AWESOME! Just what I wanted to hear! The day of the move: they were on time! And they brought a third man to load the truck as quickly as possible. They literally moved all my stuff in less than 2 hours. I'm talking about a 1700 square foot home..4bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths!! Did I lift a finger? NO!! They even took apart the beds and put the mattress protectors over them! I maybe pointed at some things, but other than that I didn't do anything. I couldn't anyways. I hurt! They were so fast I told them to slow down. I wasn't ready to move! After they loaded the truck we did a walk through of the house to ensure that they had everything in the truck and they were on their way. Fresno is a 3 hour drive and they said that they'd get there in 4 hours because of the weight stations and maybe grab some lunch. I get to Fresno and they're literally 15 minutes behind me! I didn't even get a chance to walk through the property because they were just so efficient. Did I have to help unload the truck? NO. Did my husband help at all? NO! They even put up our beds for us and took off the mattress protectors! They even unloaded the truck in less than 2 hours! And that's with just 2 people! The third guy left after loading the truck in Sacramento! AND they put the furniture where I wanted it!!! I hate having to move, but this moving company took all the stress away from the moving process. No furniture was damaged at all, they made sure everything was where I wanted it, and were just so kind and professional! I would definitely recommend this moving company to anyone in the Sacramento area looking to move within Sacramento and outside of it!!! As far as price: we paid $2,000 for this service. I couldn't be more pleased with my moving experience that A Better Moving provided. Starting with Danny who coordinated everything for move, his email responses were prompt...and when I needed to make changes/additions to the original plan, he was more than accommodating and made sure everything was seamless. The movers, Jeff and Chris, were the very definition of professionals. They were on time, quick, courteous, and patient (having my three year old grandson with me could have tried their patience, but they moved around him without missing a step). Pricing was more than fair for everything they did for me...even assembled a heavy metal bed I'd just purchased that required assembly...Chris assembled while Jeff continued to unload, thereby not adding additional time to the overall move. Their equipment, including the truck, was spotless and well maintained...their ingenuity was amazing in how they utilized materials for all of the move. My enthusiasm stems from the "Move from Hell" I experienced three years ago when the movers showed up in a beat up truck, no moving supplies...I spent well over an additional $100 when I had to run to Lowe's to buy moving boxes, paper and plastic wrap because this company (who was contracted to pack my belongings as well as move them) didn't have even the basic materials for packing and moving...including no dolly. Let's just say they are the best. They are honest and over delivered on everything. They were recommended by my realtor after I was scammed by another company who never even showed up. I guess that's quite common in CA. Just saw it on the news a little too late. Anyway I had to be out of my house and move cross country in two days. Steve, the owner, helped me get my mind straight and came up with many doable options. I ended up getting a 26 foot Uhaul and he sent his dream team to help load it on a days notice. I had a 5 bedroom house and figured I would get 2 bedrooms at most in the truck. The dream team showed up at 11 and were done by 3. I figured 8 hours minimum so I was shocked when they finished that quickly. Don, Don and the other guy were the movers. They filled the Uhaul like a Tetris puzzle. Every inch was packed to the ceiling. Thankfully, I was able to keep the important stuff and a lot more because of how they packed it. They tied it off with rope a few times to protect my valuables. I had so many breakable items from lamps to picture frames and they made sure it was all packed in securely. I figured I would lose something to damage moving 2100 miles but I looked when we arrived and everything was intact. I moved it into a storage facility twice the size of my Uhaul and it barely fit. That's how tight they packed me. These movers are incredible! Their speed was amazing. it was almost like they were running. They never took a break and were friendly and funny the entire time. I offered them pizza and drinks for lunch and they refused. They said they didn't have time to eat because they were going to watch the UFC fights later. Don had 120 hours in...in two weeks. He came in on his day off to help me because Steve told him I was in a bind. My experience was absolutely the best and I highly recommend this company. Steve will set you up and if you get the "Don and Don" crew they will wow you! My neighbors watched from afar and they were shocked at how quickly they finished too. Stay away from this company. They gave me a written estimate for $1100.00 for my move but once they had my stuff in storage, they demanded another $1100.00 to move it to my new place. Then they told me in no uncertain terms, they expected a couple hundred dollars in tips. If I hadn't been in the middle of a divorce, I would have taken them to court. If you do roll the dice with them, make sure you have rock solid contract with a "do not exceed clause", etc. You are going to need it later on. read more

Whatever you do, hire a different company. I've moved 6 times in ten years. This was the only horrible experience I've had. Like many of the authentic reviews here, they quoted a price then when the day came they were late, didn't have the manpower quoted, slower than molasses, broke furniture apart and packed the cushions in boxes. We were moving 3 blocks. A single day move magically turned into 2 and the price doubled. I told them contract over at the end of day one. They admonished me not to open the boxes. Guess what? They packed pillows, cushions, my son's soccer uniform and his school backpack! Absurd. I had instructed furniture only. I had the same exact furnishings moved in one day 4 times for half of what they were going to ultimately charge. So I hired another company I had used before to finish. No second day. Let me tell you they did not like that I held them accountable. The next morning I told them I had called the cell phone they gave me & the owner at the end of one day to say no extension of the contract. I'm a single mom with my young son and my elderly mother. Fortunately a delivery man showed up the next morning when this company showed up even though I told them not to. He was being verbally aggressive trying to intimidate me. Later they sent a big guy to come bang on my door. My son was terrified. This happened years ago. I was terrified to even write this review but many years have passed. A Better Moving did a great job. I would use them again. They were careful with our items which were all fairly expensive and difficult to move. I'd recommend them. Two of the crew members said they love what they do and I really respect people who take pride in their work! Hard to find that these days. Feedback: they definitely should have brought a 3rd crew member to begin with as I had informed them we had few boxes but many large, heavy objects which would've made the job go faster. We've moved 8 times in the past 7 years and we've used these guys to move once before several years ago and they were pretty good. This time we had a totally different experience. First off, they gave us an estimate for two trucks and a bunch of guys to move, but they didn't even fill one truck. Also, most of the guys were good workers, but a couple of them were pretty lame (taking a whole trip to carry one little thing out of the truck). So, I don't really feel like we got good value for the amount we paid. Second, they left a bunch of small miscellaneous stuff that we told them needed to get moved at the old house and they also made a big mess, leaving garbage behind for us to clean up. When we got to our new home, they acted super lame again, like they didn't know what they were doing. For example, our refrigerator is oversized and wouldn't fit through the security door on its own. So their solution was to irreparably break the door out of its frame so they could fit the fridge in! We had to tell them that that was a horrible idea and that they should just take the doors off the fridge instead... They also put boxes and furniture all willy-nilly and we had to go through and carry a bunch of the stuff to the right floors and rooms ourselves afterward. To top it all off, they managed to break more than a few pieces of furniture including a really old antique piece that we had moved dozens of times without breaking before this. I don't know how they can really call themselves a "better" anything in good conscience. The only reason they didn't get 1 star was because besides the above mentioned issues they did a decent job, but I would never recommend them to anyone or use them again. UPDATE: They did pay to have the antique fixed, but like I have said, we've had that thing for YEARS and have moved it many times and have managed not to break it every time (except this one). I appreciate their efforts to make things right, but I still don't think I would use this company again. read more

I am so upset by this company's unfair and manipulative business practices. Everything started out fine, with Steve being very flexible on my mother's move dates, etc. But then they came to pack her, and didn't use any blankets or protection for her furniture. They also refused to pack a rug in the rafters because "it was too much work." They took her furniture to their storage for a few days. Before I could remove the items from storage (I was using a new, awesome mover at this point!), I had to sign a waiver of liability. Of course, her furniture was heavily damaged. And they are now disavowing any responsibility. I just don't understand all of the good reviews--I had nothing but difficulty! It's been an awful experience. I used these guys in my first attempt at paying movers, as opposed to recruiting friends. This was well worth the money. They were one time, worked hard, were courteous, and got everything they could possibly do, completed within the scheduled time. I got a truck through UHaul, which I wish had been bigger so it presented challenges with not having a ramp, and needing multiple trips.
