It was 9:30 P.M. on a Wednesday. That gave me two choices Subway (the McDonald's for Vegans) or another place that is open past 9 P.M. Thankfully for Help From Yelp (HFL) we located an Asian restaurant not to far off our path. We were returning home after a visit to a potential foster to adopt (we run a Non-profit Animal companion Rescue Storm's Angels). Sadly the only place near our fosters home was a pizza place that contained dairy. It was in the dough. Dairy was even in the pizza sauce. One other bar was a type I had never been to. At first when parking my son said it looked like it had a skating rink inside. When I went in to ask for a menu I was shocked. There was a "rink" but it was more like a corral for humans to work on their line-dancing (uh). We went on our way. Using HFY to find food on our trip home we settled on Chin's Place. Yelp had their webpage. Chin's Webpage had a menu. On the cover page was a green stamp stating many selections of Vegan and Vegetarian items. A worker there had friends who were Vegan. She stated that we could order just about anything to be Vegan. That they would work with us. That was most excellent. We ordered 3 orders of fries, 2 sesame Tofu, and 4 General Tso's. The General Tso's was okay, the Sesame Tofu was my favorite. I will order that next time. The whole ordering process and having our food was about twenty minutes. Thank you. -Omeed read more

Chin's Place is a cozy neighborhood restaurant that serves delicious food. This restaurant is a family run operation and everyone is super friendly there. I live close enough to Chin's to walk there and my family patronizes them at least once a week. Some of my favorites are : Pan-fried dumplings (they are huge and tasty), chicken wings (their batter is thick and crunchy), fried rice (any flavor), and boneless chicken in oyster sauce (deep fried chicken filets served with a nice deeply flavored brown sauce over some broccoli). Honestly, I've never eaten anything I didn't like there. They will also adjust any dish to your taste, like more/less heat, more/less vegetables, etc. Chin's Place has approximately 10 tables to eat-in. Their decor is quite pleasant also, and they do a lot of take-out business. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by for a bite to eat or order something to go. You will not be disappointed. read more

Admittedly, I am not extremely picky about Chinese food. However, Chin's Place sets itself apart and raises the bar a bit when it comes to Chinese take out for me. Their food is clearly not made in giant batches and always arrives promptly at my door (usually met by me recovering from a night out) fresh and hot. The vegetables are clearly straight from their garden; no weird, brownish broccoli or limp snow peas here! I have tried a variety of dishes here but I keep going back to the Sesame Chicken. Man, is that some good stuff! It's fried and coated in saucy deliciousness and certainly loaded with calories but so worth the sinful indulgence. The peppering of broccoli is nice, too... Just wanted to take a second to echo the positive reviews about this place. In fact I've been using Yelp for about a year to inform all of my dining out choices and this is the first place that has inspired me to create an account and actually contribute to the community. I had the pepper steak with steamed rice last night and it was the best Cantonese meal I've ever had. This is no doubt due to the fresh veggies and over all quality of the place. Some stuff is Americanized, as expected, but a lot of the dishes are also authentic in soul and nature. My FAVORITE place to get Chinese food in Akron. No MSG, not heat lamps, and no compromise on quality. The dumplings here are massive hugs for your tongue and tummy. Probably my favorite thing on the menu. The spiced sauce to dip or pour is also delectable. The noodles here are wonderful. Fat, chewy noodles with a huge selection of either beef or shrimp or veggies and more! My friend also got the orange chicken. She stopped eating beef (which they also offer orange beef) and was ECSTATIC to see not only the orange chicken on the menu, but also that it was delicious. Aromatic, citrusy, spicy. It's not my favorite, but even I liked it. The people there are awesome and are so casual and friendly. Best Cantonese food in Akron! Elaine and her family are super sweet and cook amazing food. Veggies/ protein are plentiful and fresh and the food is always on point. My usual go to is their chicken & broccoli, pork fried rice, and pork eggrolls. Make sure you get their housemade duck sauce for the eggrolls that sauce is to die for. Got the hot sour soup, could not eat it all. I'm Chinese and the soup was not authentic, it was not my cup of tea. Hot sour soup is my favorite, Some basic ingredients that was not included were bamboo shoots, wood ears fungus, and tofu. All missing just American celery. I will give Elaine five start because for me it is the best Chinese restaurant in the large Akron-Cleveland metro areas. I'm sure there are more gourmet Asian restaurants in the area but at this very reasonable price point it is the best value and quality. Elaine Chin has created a restaurant dedicated to delicious food. I ordered the "green bean black bean with chicken" with Lo Mein noodles (instead of rice) and the extra $3 was well worth it. I said I wanted it hot, a seven on their five-scale and they respected my request and provided me with the spice level I wanted. Many places don't serve the proper heat level because they don't trust the customer's request. This was perfect. Our server was very good too. We will go back for sure! read more

Great food for the price. I got chicken fried rice and egg rolls (my go to Chinese order). They have spicy beef egg rolls, which I wholeheartedly recommend if you're a fan of spicy foods. I also got a pork egg roll, which was pretty standard, but tasted fresher than other places. I was worried about the chicken fried rice because it wasn't as colorful as it usually is (only onion and egg) but it did not disappoint. The rice was flavorful without being too salty, and the texture was very fresh (not too sticky). The overall impression I got from my food was that it was much fresher than other comparable places. The flavor is great without being overly packed with salt. Also, as other reviews mention, there is a garden in the back. Just bad! We're not sure if it was an off night for them, because they came highly recommended; but, but our food was terrible. I was really surprised how quick the food was ready (15 min). Everything looked very appetising. But the shrimp and chicken were chewy and tasteless. The vegetable egg roll was awful tasting, like old cabbage. The crab Rangoon was hard and chewy and just tasted like cream cheese. Vegetable lo mien and rice tasted old and little flavor. Everything really was chewy and tasted old. Really disappointed. We actually the it away. We should have heeded the warning hand scribbled on the door, the said "No Food Returns if you don't like it stock with what you know." I have been going to Chin's for 10 years now and I've yet to be disappointed. Nothing store bought here - they even grow veggies in the beautiful garden out back! The style is Cantonese (Americanized of course) and it is delicious and usually spicy. If you really like spicy just ask for more too - they will throw in chopped hot peppers or dried ones depending upon the season and what is available. My favorite dishes are the green pepper chicken, Hunan vegetables with tofu, Cantonese chicken, lo mein, and the black peppered chicken. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything though. Make sure to have fried wontons as well so you can try out their sweet & sour sauce, duck sauce, and spicy mustard all made from scratch. With the freshness of the food you'd expect to pay a bit, but it is very reasonable and downright cheap for lunch. read more

Be VERY VERY cautious of this place if you have seafood allergies! My sister ordered a beef and broccoli dish and it was covered in oyster sauce (on beef??). Nothing was listed on the menu about the sauce. Her husband called them immediately after delivery and they said they would issue a credit on the next order. They ordered again last night and they girl on the phone said "Yeah, no credit. I asked and they said it was your own fault for ordering it" First of all, who puts oysters on beef and secondly, why are these sauces not listed on their menus for the people who have allergies? Really good service. Very nice waitress and yes, the vegetables are fresh. I ordered the roast pork with garlic sauce. The sauce did not taste like garlic, it tasted incredibly sweet. Just a ton of sugar in this dish. My wife got the Kung pao chicken. It was pretty much the same thing I got except with peanuts and chicken. Crazy sweet. It may have been an off day or else these yelpers like there Chinese food candied. My wife enjoyed her won ton soup and eggroll but barely touched her Kung pao. I had hot and sour soup. I've never left a review for a restaurant before, but finding what I did in my lunch yesterday merits it. Not one strand of black hair, but a CLUMP of hair in my Hunan Chicken. Absolutely disgusting and clear that this restaurant does NOT abide by kitchen regulations/hairnets for staff. The flavor of the food may be decent, but nothing is worth finding THIS in your lunch. Chin's is fabulous, and this is coming from someone who is fairly well versed in AUTHENTIC Chinese food. While it has some of the usual suspects in takeout, it also has a lot of uncommon specialties (Szechuan I believe) and the quality is excellent on everything. Their soups use an authentic, light broth, not the awful salty stuff one often finds at other restaurants, and they also include the unusual sizzling rice soups, which I love. The egg-drop soup is probably the best I've ever had around in Ohio; the flavouring is perfectly balanced. My favourite dish here is the orange beef, which is FAR closer to the authentic "old skin beef" than I've eaten anywhere else in Ohio, but everything else is good too. The key is to follow the recommendations of the staff; they've never led me wrong. Comparing regional cuisines is like apples and oranges, I know, but I find this Chin's Place to be as good Szechuan as the Downtown Cleveland restaurants are good and authentic Cantonese. read more

Three stars is the perfect amount for this restaurant. First off, the food here is good. It's better than average and more authentic than usual. But with that said, secondly, the woman on the phone who takes the orders is very rude and curt, they don't tell you that they don't come up for delivery, she just ignores you until you bring it up at the end. They take a suspiciously long time to get to my apartment (they're two blocks down the road max) and the driver takes his time sitting in the car while you stand there and wait. I think I've finally found a decent Chinese joint in Akron! And although I do not typically eat Chinese food often, because to me it is typically just meh to my taste buds, I do find myself returning to Chin's often! So maybe the tide is swinging for me in terms of Chinese food! I have to say I'm really a huge fan of their Soups. Their spicy chicken rice noodle is a must try! I've had it about 5 times now and each time it has been the same, their consistency is a huge win! I also enjoy the fact they use fresh ingredients from their own garden, how could you not like that! They have a huge garden in the back and to see them using fresh herbs and veggies is always great! Another big pointer for me was spice. They actual deploy it in the dishes that are labeled "spicy". Which is awesome! I can't tell you how many places I've been where Spicy is equated to Ketchup! LOL, get my drift? So although some cannot handle spice, I am a person who embraces it! Therefore, when I ask for extra spicy, they deliver just that. Spice! I also have tried a few other Common dishes to gauge out the overall style and tastes. Orange Chicken : Pretty typically, I'd order it again. General Tso Chicken : Wasn't bad at all, I've had better but I wouldn't pass it up! Overall, this is a great spot! Firstly, I'm an average connoisseur of Chinese food. The first time I tried this place, I had it for take out and wasn't too impressed by it, which made me question why so many of my fellow yelpers were giving such high marks for this place that looks like a random non-hygienic, hole-in-the-wall chinese fast food spot. However, I gave it a second try after a friend had mentioned that the food was much better with bigger portions if you dined in. So with that I tried it as to my surprise, it was awesome. The portions were huge and tasted much fresher than my previous experience. This place definitely out competes House of Hunan for best Chinese food in the Akron area. The inside of the restaurant is clean and the wait staff is attentive and prompt. The side of rice that comes with each of the entrees could be more, but it's not a huge deal to me. The lo-mein was awesome and it provides the right amount of spice when asked for. I gave this place 3 stars mainly for the inconsistancy, but maybe after a few times more it will prove to be 4 stars like many others have given this place. read more

This place is fantastic. Their food is legitimately delicious. My first time eating their, I felt the food was a bit salty, but I think I'm used to eating home cooked Chinese food. The second time it went, I got their garden grown green beans, I asked for less salt and less sauce. It was amazing. Some Chinese places cook the crap out of veggies, but Chin's doesn't.
