Ordered a combo pork fried rice with egg and spring rolls as take out. The woman who took my order was very friendly and seemed to know other customers who were picking up their orders. I waited 15 minutes which is a little faster than I expected. The pork was tender and had a good umami flavor with the fried rice and veggies. Very much comfort food. My partner has insisted for a long time that Chin's is the best Chinese in the Akron area. He used to live just around the block, but now we live in Cuyahoga Falls, and in the 4 years we've been here, I've been pretty disappointed by every place we've tried (except for Sushia Asia Gourmet, which has a great Sichuan menu). Chin's appears to be more Cantonese style; while there is a dining room, it is has apparently been closed since COVID. We had a couple drinks at Frank's Place and placed our order. 15 minutes later, it was hot and ready. My car smelled so good that my mouth was watering. He ordered the Cantonese chicken, which was good but kind of basic. My stir fried chicken and veggies in ginger sauce were better--and the veggies were so fresh and crisp. You may have noticed, but there's a garden behind the restaurant, and they grow a lot of their own produce. The star of the night was the veggie Egg Foo Young, which I'd never tried before. I saw photos of it online and had to try it. Wow. Egg Foo Young: where have you been all my life? I feel like I'm going to have a new food hyperfixation because this was absolutely delicious and fresh, and I've never had anything like it before. It was a very thin, very crispy omelet with veggies folded in, and then it was covered with a flavorful brown gravy. There are so many other things I want to try, and I can confidently say that my partner was right. It was worth the drive, and our food stayed warm even after a pit stop for beer on the way home. Our meal at Chin's was a reminder of just how good Chinese food can be when it's just not chicken nuggets covered in a sweet sauce. read more

Head chins for the first time today. House soup was fantastic, colorful, and light with chinese vegetables and baby shimp. Beef with Ginger dish was tasty albeit a bit salty. My friend raved about his general tso. Service was good except for the somewhat obnoxious banter from one or possibly two of the crew in the back. First experience, was good so will be returning. After reading all of the decent reviews on here, I decided to give this place a try...especially because being half Cantonese I'm always looking for good/authentic Cantonese. Well, this place did not make me happy. I'm not sure what everyone is raving about, the food is terrible. We ordered beef ho fun, shrimp lo mein, and steamed dumplings. SALT and non authentic Cantonese is what we received. The food was so salty! This place is no different than any other Americanized Chinese Take Out, if you think it's authentic then you've never had authentic food. The dumplings barely had any stuffing and were uncooked, the dough was tough and disgusting. Why can't AKRON have just one authentic Chinese restaurant? Why do I always have to go to Cleveland? 2013 Update Spicy Beef Egg Rolls - OMG... not to be missed! We go at least once a month... sometimes with a restaurant dot com discount and other times full price. Still love the fresh veggies and love that they are already getting the garden ready for another year. Love the cashew chicken... orange beef is really crispy and spicy... fried dumplings are a comfort food favorite. I was in Akron for a work conference and stopped by this restaurant as I read lots of good reviews about this restaurant. It was a small and clean restaurant as any other Chinese restaurant. I walked in around 12:30 pm, the receptionist was really nice and welcomed me. I got seated right the way as it wasn't that busy. The waitress was really nice and polite. She brought out a small dish of fried noodles which were chips for me to snack on. I got my water really quick. Then she took my order. I got the lunch special: General Tsao's chicken/ Cantonese chicken with fried rice, I also ordered a pork egg roll. The lunch special was about $5.50, I added the egg roll and fried rice for an extra $1.50. That price was really decent in my opinion. The pork egg roll and General Tsao's chicken were good; they weren't like super good. The fried rice was really good and flavorful. I would recommend this place to everybody. read more

Yay, Chinese food! I'm talking about the Americanized version of Chinese food... General Tso's, shrimp fried rice, sweet and sour chicken... you get the picture. So I'm rating this place in relation to other restaurants in this same, very specific, well-known genre. Two things that make Chin's stand out amongst the other greasy, salty, syrupy establishments of it's kind: (1) the quality-to-price ratio, and (2) the fresh vegetable garden. The prices are great for the quality. Go across the street to the other plaza (I forget the name of the place) and you will get lower quality food for the same price. Go just a little further down the road to the Platinum Dragon and you will likewise find lower quality (and more suspect) food for your buck. When possible, Chin's Place grows and uses its own vegetables from their garden! I first read about this from another review-based site when I was looking up the phone number and I thought "naw... can't be". But sure enough, if you know to look... the large vegetable garden is visible from the parking lot. At the right times in the year, you can tell the veggies in your little paper carton covered in brown sauce are fresh and homegrown. Year-round, I notice their dishes are packed with veggies. My only problem with Chin's has been that sometimes I can't get ahold of them during business hours. I'd imagine it's a family-run place, and it is so small-- surely there are times they are either not able to man the phones or close during their regular hours. I've never eaten inside. Though certainly not luxurious by any means, it does seem a little nicer than the other two Chinese places in the immediate area. I think I'll order some tonight! read more

As a foodie, we can't always dine at the 4-5 star resteraunts, and are always searching for that "Diamond in the Rough"- That is what we live for! Chins is that little Gem. In a land of hundreds of Chinese reseraunts and the dreaded "Buffet", Chins is a small unassuming hole in the wall, that just prepares good food! The wait staff is freindly and attentive, the guests mostly regulars which gave it that "Cheers" feel. This was absolutely the WORST CHINESE FOOD I have ever had in my entire life! Terrible, terrible, terrible!!! I'm Asian and LOVE Chinese food, but I've never had Chinese food that tastes sooooo bad like theirs before. My husband and I ordered steamed dumplings, hot-and-sour soup, and two meat entrees. The dumpling's starch skin was way toooooooo thick (more than you can imagine) to taste its filling. When I took a bite, all I could taste was the thick skin. I couldn't believe I paid $5 for the starch skin. Hot and sour soup had blackish color and tasted real bad. It was an absolute horror. My husband and I will never go back there! read more

It was 9:30 P.M. on a Wednesday. That gave me two choices Subway (the McDonald's for Vegans) or another place that is open past 9 P.M. Thankfully for Help From Yelp (HFL) we located an Asian restaurant not to far off our path. We were returning home after a visit to a potential foster to adopt (we run a Non-profit Animal companion Rescue Storm's Angels). Sadly the only place near our fosters home was a pizza place that contained dairy. It was in the dough. Dairy was even in the pizza sauce. One other bar was a type I had never been to. At first when parking my son said it looked like it had a skating rink inside. When I went in to ask for a menu I was shocked. There was a "rink" but it was more like a corral for humans to work on their line-dancing (uh). We went on our way. Using HFY to find food on our trip home we settled on Chin's Place. Yelp had their webpage. Chin's Webpage had a menu. On the cover page was a green stamp stating many selections of Vegan and Vegetarian items. A worker there had friends who were Vegan. She stated that we could order just about anything to be Vegan. That they would work with us. That was most excellent. We ordered 3 orders of fries, 2 sesame Tofu, and 4 General Tso's. The General Tso's was okay, the Sesame Tofu was my favorite. I will order that next time. The whole ordering process and having our food was about twenty minutes. Thank you. -Omeed read more
