My husband and I had reservations through Open Table to celebrate my birthday here. There was…read moreplenty of parking. The place was empty, but then again, it was around 5pm on a Sunday. (People did start trickling in around 6pm and the place was full.) We were seated at a booth. We couldn't decide on what to order and all the ones we were interested in were on the Family Tasting menu so we order that along with a Black Sesame Budino, a pot of Blue Chamomile tea (I was told that I could use it 30 times and was given it to take home to have more. I must say it really lasts about 15 before the flavor and color fades when soaking it for 3 mins), and a Melville. Everything was delicious but our favorite was the jiaozi with doubanjiang butter with scallop shrimp and charred pineapple which blew us away. The menu changes with the seasons which gives you an opportunity to return to try something new.

I…read moremake my own reservations and pay my own bills when I dine out. I am a fan of restaurants and chefs, I want them all to do well and succeed.  I ate alone at this restaurant.  PROS: Good location. Easy to get to and parking is abundant. Menu is seasonal, so it changes, which is good. The service was attentive.CONS: The food, in general, for Asian food lacks excitement, flavor, texture and overall satisfaction. If you want a $19 tea, this is the place. Also none of the food looks like the pictures you might see online. Those pics look amazing - I received nothing like them. PROTIP: The $100 Family Style Tasting menu is probably a good value. SUMMARY: I wanted this place to shine, but it didn't.  24 Suns should be a hit. I know the chef's (Chef/owner duo Nic Webber and Jacob Jordan)  background and his great dishes. They did what good chefs should do: risk it and succeed with their own style. What happens at 24 Suns does not translate. I know, I read the press and the Michelin guide about the venue.I can excuse the interior, which is nothing special, featuring some booths and tables. A large older looking bar. I wanted the food that I read about. It's like trying to find a hidden treasure and hitting the jackpot. I have done this with amazing street food - (tacos, burritos),  and asian, Thai, Bistro, seafood and more and I found some real gems. I don't care about the ambiance, I care about the food, the flavor, the delight of each course that makes you want to tell your friends and bring people back to that restaurant.  The best dish I researched and had was the Jiaozi with Doubanjiang Butter, scallops, shrimp and charred pineapple. Sounds amazing--right?  MEH - the dumplings were well made and juicy, I will give it that, but the Butter on the bottom did nothing for this dish, in fact it brought it down. The dish was bland and stodgy. The pineapple was the highlight and for a dish with scallops and shrimp, this should have been a dream bite, but it was disappointing.   OK - a little vegetable: the Wok'd Bok Choy ($13)--you can't eat this unless you ask your waitress for a fork and knife, which is not provided until requested. Just chopsticks. No issue, but the pieces are larger than mouthsize and hard to manage with chopsticks. Flavor was also MEH. They were cooked well, but lacked impact on taste.  The Almost - Doppio Wontons in Chili--($23) is a combo of two wontons in one. The baby corn wonton is tied to the huitlacoche/thai basil wonton in a black and white presentation. This was the best presented dish of the night and the one that shined through. It was flavorful and a great combination. I wish it were spicier, as it said "in chili," but I did like the sweetness of the corn.  The Highlight - the Dongpo Pork Belly and Youitao ($30) - a very tasty and decent size piece of pork belly, well cooked and with stand out flavor. There was a "Chinese pancake" with it that was very crispy and a good complement to the fatty pork belly. Some added multicolored peppers were on the dish as well, but they did nothing to add to the dish.  Service - good, attentive, random at times and overall ok.  My bill (they gave me a beer because they were having trouble with their taps and it took a while just to get a beer) was $85 with $7 tax, totaling $92, and just over $100 with tip for a single person.  I so wanted this place to shine. It needs to overhaul the menu and bring the heat, flavor, texture, experience and presentation that great food should have. These guys have talent - overhaul and rethink.

Wonderful Chinese Fast Food right off the freeway...perfect for the weary & hungry 405 Frwy…read moretraveler that wants a quick good meal with big portions and an affordable price. I love chicken wings and chose it for my one-item combo which includes fried rice & chow mein. Huge meal for someone very hungry...or 2 meals easily shared. The Huz had the shrimp fried rice (which they make to-order, and takes just a tad bit longer to receive) and my sons had a one-item combo with chicken teriyaki as the main. The chicken teriyaki has a sweet flavor and the boys liked it. The service is friendly and helpful. The dining area is medium size and if you can snag a table on a less busy time, it's quite comfortable and clean. This will be a regular stop for us when we're in the area.

But it's the first faster Chinese meal that did not make me swell up or like I needed to drink a gallon of water. The orange chicken was crispy, the chow mein not dry and full of flavor. The veggies were so good too! Enough garlic and not dry. Portions are huge for $13 too! Very generous. In addition to the food being good, the girl working was just so nice. She said the food traffic has decreased due to services like DoorDash and such which is a shame because she was so sweet and easy to interact with. We'll be returning soon!

Costco, Trader Joe's, etc. freezer versions are way better. chewy, room temperature. no flavor. nasty. and still gave Chin's five stars. yeah, everything else was that good. CASHEW CHICKEN (white-meat chicken wok-tossed with celery, mushrooms, green bell pepper, and cashews in a sweet garlic plum sauce). apparently, we got the nearly cashew-free edition for people with nut allergies. that was a bit confusing but still delicious. SHANGHAI CRISPY PORK (braised pork wok-tossed in a sweet and sour Shanghai sauce) was perfect. this is what I was craving: sticky, sweet, and lots of meat -- Chinese-ish American food the Chin's way. looking forward to many return visits in the near future. this time, won't even wait for a Santa Ana. ps: seems strange there's a freak weather condition named for the Mexican general responsible for the death of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, etc. I still have a coon-skin cap in my sock drawer. They can adjust the spiciness of the dish based on your tolerance which I ordered on the medium side which was perfect. The sauce was a bit on the heavy side but tasty. Portion size was generous. Service was good and friendly. Besides hot tea, they also offer soft drinks, wine and beer. Parking is easy as it is located in the same Baron's Market shopping complex.

The restaurant has warm tones and clean lighting, a new, large bar/table top area, a pianist on the weekends playing musical favorites and an enclosed, larger group area for parties. The front host staff is very friendly and accommodating. My server, Jia, is always so on top of her game-- warm, friendly and takes service very seriously but makes her efforts look seamless with a light, welcoming spirit. The food is always plentiful and consistently predictably delicious, even when we were ordering takeout during the pandemic. We had ordered the Sizzling Rice Soup with beef and shrimp. It was very fresh tasting and generous portions of proteins. We love pairing it with the crispy noodles in the soup to add further flavorful texture. Tonight, I decided to deviate from an old standby, the Honey Walnut Shrimp to a new favorite, Chicken Cilantro. It didn't disappoint. There were flavorful bites of chicken and mushroom with a little zing from the jalapeno pepper. It wasn't spicy, but had so much caramelized flavor. We also ordered the Orange Chicken, which had real orange zest worked into the saucy, sweet sauce. The experience is truly a work of food theater as Jai put the sizzling rice into our soup and brought one masterpiece after another of delicious Chinese food.
