2025 December Trays, great for parties!
Jen C.

Everyone here knows their plates are worth the money, tastes great and they give a lot of food but who knew their take out trays are great for parties? I ordered a small tray of chow funn for $35.95 and I was only expecting it to look like the chow funn they display for the choice plates but this was even better, it was loaded with char siu! The tray was literally 10 pounds of goodness and a generous portion. This is my new catering place when I need a pot luck dish. This is my favorite Chinese place in Kaneohe. You'll always find long lines for a good reason!

Singapore noodles, bittermelon beef

Whenever I come to the food court in Windward Mall, I'm always drawn to Chinatown Express. The food is quick and plentiful. I always feel I get my money's worth. There can be a line at times, but they work quick so you never have to wait long. The menu is easy to follow and I love that they sell dimsum throughout the day. You can also order them individually if you're want just one. But it is subject to availability. They can sell out quick. My go-to order is the Singapore noodles with bittermelon beef. I notice those dishes don't move as quickly as others, so I'm happy to order them. The noodles have a hint of curry, and the bittermelon gives you a nice crunch and flavor.

Massive 4 choice plate: -beef broccoli -minute chicken -mushroom chicken -sweet-sour pork With char sui fried rice

Chinatown Express is a place that has bang for your buck. I went with the four choices with a drink for less than $20. Each item has good flavor and your pallet will explore the sweet, salty, tangy, smoky, and charred taste of each dish. The service was friendly and quick. While located in the mall, the areas are constantly being monitored and cleaned. You can always flag down the worker to have the table wiped down. A great place for cheaps!

A generous express... Located in Pa'ina Ko'olau Food Court of Windward Mall there Chinatown Express and yes the authenticity may be a slight askew the variety they offer here in a food court setting is quite impressive in my opinion like fish of the day (flounder today), Shanghai Noodles, Cold Ginger Chicken, Bitter Melon with Beef just to name a few. The gentleman that helped me was quiet but very polite and though I was hungry I had a feeling that I should've ordered a one choice plate though did two at $11.75 as everything just looked so yummy and is a great deal. Gosh what a plate...insanely generous portion and that alone wasn't the five stars it was the food, I absolutely loved that it wasn't salty and seasoned just right and yes I was hungry but there's no way I could come close to finishing the entire plate. This express offers so much speciality items like wonton mein (which has shrimp), congee, oven baked items and dim sum as well which I need to try the next time and be sure not let my belly do the ordering. Thank you!

Huge portions and very tasty! My go to place when I am ono for Chinese food. You can have half chow fun or noodles and half char siu or regular fried rice. I love the sweet sour spare ribs.

Seven treasures and gau gee over noodles

Came back to get lunch and wanted to try the seven treasures with gau gee over noodles. This is not ready made so don't order this if you want a quick grab and go lunch. I thought the amount was really good for the price. There was lots of topping and it had 2 gau gee on the side. The noodles were crispy but also soaked up the sauce. Would be super tasty with hot mustard or chili sauce.

This cost just $9.69 tax included! With how expensive take out food is these days... this place is the beat deal in town. They give CHOKE food for the price, and it's tasty. Way better than zips or LL...

Food is tasty. Portions are generous. Prices are reasonable. Service is fast considering they're busy. My favorite is their duck noodle.

They have been at their Kamehameha Highway location for 43 years...must be doing something right. Decor looks straight from the 80's too...dated but nice..."Back to the Future." When I visit a Chinese restaurant I often will get something on special or a duck entrée. Requested Roast Duck with Hoisin sauce for takeaway; I received it in the 10 minutes I was told. It was excellent and a decent portion for $18. Hours are 1000a till 830p daily, except on Mondays - when they are closed. Lots of parking stalls in front...a beauty salon is in the adjacent unit. Aloha Gas is nearby.

We did have a pre-order issue, though. Since I arrived early to make sure everything was set, it was an easy recovery but still disappointing. One pre-order dish was egg fu yong. While the server was reviewing the order with me, she said they didn't have it that day. I told her I wasn't notified when I pre-ordered like I was told "no steamed fish" but I just increased the quantities for the other items and it was seamless for the rest of the guests. She did say but I ordered early enough to get my Peking duck. (If we didn't get that I would have them been pretty annoyed.) Food: Not quite as good as last Christmas but still good. Minute chicken cake noodle - chicken was a bit dry and a little tough. Noodles, gravy, Choi sum was good. Soft gau gee mein (family loves our noodles) was better - very tasty, but the gravy was overflowing and spilling all over. Peking duck - half duck, with buns. Came with the customary plum (hoisin) sauce but no green onions/scallions. Not the same without it but was good. Duck skin was crispy, duck meat wasn't dry. Shrimp chips were stale, though. Walnut shrimp was good. Shrimp was slightly overcooked but not enough to matter. Beef broccoli was very good, but not sure they gave us two orders, seemed small compared to the other dishes which we had upped from 1-1/2 to 2. Overall, it's challenging to get good Chinese food now days so we were all satisfied with the food, good service, and the ease of having the dishes come out timely. Hopefully the next time the food will have gone back up in quality and I can give 4 stars.

I go there once a month to buy food to take to my mom, who lives in a foster care home. It's usually egg flower soup, stuffed tofu with pork, beef chow mein or shrimp fried rice and sometimes a chicken dish. I order online, usually at 9am, for pick-up at 10:30. The staff are nice and friendly, which isn't always the case at a Chinese restaurant. BTW, don't place an online order too early; they might miss it. On a rare occasion, I would add a dinner plate for myself. It's on par with one I get from Golden Duck on King St. I prefer the food at K***** on the other side of Kaneohe but I much prefer the parking at New Mui Kwai. Plus, it's much closer to my home and more convenient when visiting my mom. New Mui Kwai is a solid, old school Chinese restaurant. I'll keep coming back so I suppose that's a recommendation from me. Sorry, no pics ... A picture of a box containing food containers would be boring. :p

Overall solid local spot that you should support if you're in the area!

Plenty parking in the Temple Valley Shopping Center with Times Supermarket, Times Coffee Shop, McDonald's and more. Plenty food and the plates were full and heavy. The noodles for the Crispy Gay Gee Mein tasted like the noodles you use for saimin. But, dry and firm in texture. I found a clear, long piece that looked like fishing line in my food??!! I should've taken a picture of it. But, I just threw it away as it was underneath the noodles and inside of the take out container. I ate most of it already when I found it. Oh, wells. That usually happens to my friend and not me. I guess, it was my turn and there is always a first time for everything. Lol. The noodles for the Soft Gau Gee Mein was soft, different type noodles for some reason. But, wet and really soft in texture. Ambiance inside is casual. Not sure, if we will try here again.

Tables had boxes stacked on them, little in the trays. It felt pretty uninviting to be honest. But the man behind the counter was kind and welcomed us in. While not much was in the trays, they did have what we were looking for, so we decided to order. The man behind the counter offered us pieces of the meats hanging in the window and we knew we made the right choice. The crispy pork in the window was amazing! Between the two of us we got fried rice, crispy pork, sweet and sour pork and the broccoli beef. Everything was amazing. I was even super impressed with the fried rice which actually had flavor, and I think was cooked in sesame oil. Then we both got drinks. I got the plantation ice tea and it was so flavorful! My son got boba milk tea and said it's the best he's had on island so far. We will for sure be back!

Adela's is a small, take-out order only place, but extremely busy. We phoned in the order ahead of time and the wait time was about 45 mins. We got the Sweet Potato Noodles with Garlic Butter and Lechon. Gracious, it was delicious. Worth every penny. The lechon was crispy, tender, and flavorful. The noodles had the perfect texture and paired flawlessly with the garlic butter. We also got Okinawan Sweet Potato Poi Bread, but this unfortunately was blown out of the water by the noodles. She seemed like she was not too fond of tourists at all. To make things worse, there is no indoor seating. Since we were so far from our hotel, we ended up having to eat the food in our car. The food itself had massive highs and lows. The Lechon Pork Belly was amazing and delicious. I wish it had a few more purple onions, but the meat itself was a solid 10/10. However, the Garlic Butter Shrimp was horrible. It was probably the worst I have had in a very long time. The large photos on the actual menu inside the restaurant show large, unpeeled shrimp. What we actually got was small, already-peeled shrimp that tasted more like freezer burn than actual garlic butter. The service issues continued when I picked up the food. I noticed my Coke was missing and asked for it. The lady handing out the food asked the cashier if I had been charged for a soda, and the cashier said no. I know for a fact I paid for it after doing the math myself. There were other people waiting in line behind me, so I just said forget it, took my food, and left. Go for the pork belly, but skip the shrimp, double-check your receipt, and prepare for a cold shoulder at the counter.
