We had a power outage in Windward Mall last week but I saw these employees with head lamps on so it looked like they were still open! Cash only of course, but I got a place with singapore rice noodles and chow fun with sweet/spicy eggplant. The eggplant had a flavorful sauce, but wasn't spicy. The noodles were also tasty and had a good texture. I also tried a spring roll which was my favorite part and was only a dollar! They have lots of other options and I want to try their sweets too like rice cake next time! read more

Very affordable and great portion. The food was also delicious. Much better than the Panda Express food. I forgot what I got, but all the food was good. The side of fried noodles was kind of dry the first time I ordered it, but the flavor was still good. It's nice to get the food plated and be able to eat it right away compared to other places where the food is cooked to order. Don't get me wrong. Nothing fancy here at Chinatown Express located in Windward Mall food court. I've been purchasing food here for years and have always been satisfied. My favorite is pork bitter melon which I buy a side order portion and take it home. There is always short line here so I guess it is a popular restaurant among the locals. I know that there are a lot Panda fans out there but I prefer Chinatown express because it reminds me of the old Patti's Chinese Kitchen which was everybody's favorite back in the day. read more

Surprisingly decent food court food. I got the lunch entree with 1 choice, Singaporean noodles and char siu. The quantity was great for the cost. Noodles were yummy, char siu had good flavor but not great quality cut a bit too fatty for me. I'll be back to try their other stuff. There was a line but it moved ok, workers were nice. The prices match the amount they give! My favorites here are definitely the pork hash, half moon, duck noodle, and a few of their entrees. They get five stars because I've always had welcoming and quick service. At the end of the transaction, there's mustard, shoyu, and another bottle with it already mixed. You can help yourself. The little red lanterns were so cute, we just had to stop by. The Lady working there was nice, and helped us to the best of her ability. But if we get to the food - it is not for the people with a weak stomach. Our fried noodles were deep fried and saturated in what tasted like old and reused grease. I used to always go to Panda Express but one day I thought I would try Chinatown Express instead and boy was I glad I did. First off, I noticed that their chow mein noodles tasted better. It had more bite and wasn't over cooked. The next week I went and it was a tad overdone but today I ordered it again and it was perfect. Also, they give very generous portions and they are cheaper then Panda Express. Plus, they have my favorite, sweet sour pork, which I love but Panda doesn't make. I think that Chinatown Express food taste more like what I would get from a real chinese restaurant whereas Panda's I knew it was coming from a food chain. My only complaint is that the sauces are a little too thick and I wish they would cut down on the corn starch a bit. But maybe they do that so the sauces don't co mingle with the other foods? Second time trying this place and its the worst Chinese Food in Windward Mall. Avoid at all cost and just go to Panda Express. The first time I tried this place I ordered the 2 choice meal which was Beef Broccoli, fish Flounder, and fried rice. The dish was so oily, it game me stomach ache after eating it. I am not sure if they reuse the same oil but it wasn't clean at ALL. Today I only ate 2 Pork Hash and 1 Charsiu Manapua. The Charsiu Manapua was sweet like teriyaki sauce with chunks of large pork fat inside. Disgusting and oily, tasted almost like a Teriyaki burger. The worst was the Pork Hash, it had a PLASTIC WRAPPER inside. I always look at what ever I eat and this is one plain reason why if it feels wrong while your chewing, spit it out!!! I could have choked on the piece of plastic wrapper, who ever is prepping their pork hash need to look better. On the side note other than the Plastic in the Pork Hash, I have stomach ache again from this place which is crazy as I didn't eat much of it. Food here is flavorful and the portions today are decent. I like that they have jook (congee) here. It's probably the only fast food place I know of that serves jook. The jook is tasty as well. Prices are also decent. This is also the first place I've seen that puts peanuts on the seafood jook. Seafood jook comes with shrimp and flounder. This use to be my favorite place for Woh Won Ton Mein and I recommended it to all my friends. I ordered this for years. What made it special is each won ton has a decent size shrimp. Now they no longer have the shrimp inside and it is no different that any place else. You ruined a good thing you had going on by saving a few cents removing the shrimp. read more

Decided to try the fried rice and a baked char siu manapua at Chinatown Express ... not sure but they might have previously been at the Ala Moana Shopping Center Makai Market oFood Court. Best bang for your buck. Order the 8 treasure wonton crispy noodle. Its called 8 treasure because they have 8 different ingredients in a savory gravy. Wish they had more wontons (they put 3ea). Make sure you tell them to separate the noodles and gravy. When you get home pour it on and grind. If you don't like crispy noodles then the soft saimin noodles are also delicious. Winner. read more

The Mushroom Chicken was pretty standard except for the undercooked zucchini. Some of them were actually crunchy. Fail. The roast pork and roast duck were cold, soggy and greasy. The fat in the pork wasn't melt-in-your-mouth soft, like how it's supposed to be. It was actually pretty solid, and the skin was chewy, not crispy. I wonder how long it was sitting out there getting cold and bacteria ridden. I should have just stuck with Hotdog on a Stick, or waited in line for Maruki-Tei. They ran their hands over water for 2 seconds and continues serving. The roast pork was so over cooked you couldn't bite through it, and what wasn't over cooked was rubbery.
