My husband and I stopped at China Taste while visiting family for the holidays and had a very upsetting experience. We placed a large order totaling around $90 for ourselves and my brother-in-law's family. When my husband ordered, he specifically asked for 7 duck sauces, which were clearly listed on the receipt. When we picked up the food, we paid and even left a $9 tip. My husband checked the bag before leaving and noticed the duck sauces were missing. When he politely asked for them, the woman at the counter raised her voice and claimed we hadn't been charged--again, despite the receipt showing the charge for 7 duck sauces in black and white. My husband reminded her he had asked for them and even tipped generously, and that if there was an issue, she could simply take it out of the tip. Instead of resolving it calmly, she continued to be loud and disrespectful. It wasn't until the man working there stepped in that she finally handed over the sauces. This was disappointing and unnecessary. My husband is a huge Chinese food lover, and we truly wanted to enjoy a nice meal while visiting family. Instead, we left angry and disappointed. Customer service matters, and this was far from the welcoming experience we hoped for. read more

I've been on the hunt for good Chinese in the Venice area and I was decently surprised by this little shop. The owners are from Queens so I gave it a shot. I ordered the lunch combo and it came out quickly and was extremely crispy but not dried out. The food wasn't greasy at all and the flavor was good. I wish it were a bit more spicy after being specifically asked prior to her making my order but that's the only negative talking point. Worth a shot if you are in the area and need to scratch an itch. read more

Gave this a try for lunch today. Reviews were mixed so hoped to be lucky Ordered on line for pickup. Food was awful. Both dishes lukewarm. Eggrolls lukewarm and soggy. Well... this is it. You can stop reading endless reviews only to be disappointed... This is the only Chinese food in Venice that's remotely close to what you're searching for. It reminds me of Chinese food from nj/ny (not 100% but darn close compared to the competition). The sauces aren't overly sweet with a light spice for the off the menu no adjustments. Food was ready SCARILY fast...like freakishly fast, I was worried it was going to be a waste of money or just bad... but maybe I've been scorned by some of our other options in town (gotten sick from some or poor food from others). I was lucky.... I guess it was earlier than their rush and They weren't busy and I was incredibly lucky with timing. I was afraid something was going to be undercooked but everything is 10/10. No kiddos complained and everyone's happy. Small front of house/inside, a few tables to eat in, however I assume take out is their main draw. The inside is IMPRESSIVELY CLEAN, tidy and quaint. This is seriously THE WORST Chinese food I have had in the last 30 years. It is overly greasy and overly salty ... and totally lacking flavor. The guy working the counter was friendly but seemed frustrated when asked what they put in their Kung Pao Chicken. And when he said the used peas and carrots, I thought of giving up but then asked for them to leave out the peas and carrots. That frustrated him, too. Had I known how bad the food would be, I would have given up, but a friend liked the bean curd with vegetables, and I wanted to order what he liked. Panda Express is not greasy and has flavor. Go there, instead. I bought food for many ... and to have leftovers ... $88 ... we dumped the leftovers the next day. read more

Visited this place while on vacation in the area. Everything was so fresh and tasted great. A bit on the expensive side for a take out chinese joint but food was great. We also ate inside and although it's not that comfortable for a take out place they were extremely nice and accommodating. When I'm back in the area we will eat here again but will look for coupons or something for a better deal. All the proteins in all the dishes were juicy and perfectly cooked. read more

They were one of the better Chinese places in South Venice but recently the meat has been pretty much nonexistent in their meals with the exception of the breaded chicken dishes (pretty hard to skimp on the meat in those). I understand prices for proteins have gone up but I would rather pay more for a meal and get what is expected than get all onions and peppers. I will not be ordering food again. read more

Ordered for our first time on Christmas Eve. Saw they were "New York Style Chinese" & got excited. We haven't found a good spot with the same Chinese we ate in NY. It was very busy that night but we still got great food and service. Everyone in our group enjoyed there food. Next time we are looking for Chinese we will surely come back! read more

We found this place when we moved from up North & we could not believe how this little place provided quality food that tastes really good & quanity per dish order was terrific. Then came the virus & something changed. We recenly placed a very large order since we were looking forward to our first take out in months. Socail distancing when we picked (good sign) masks etc. Unfortunely the food was not good -it was awful- did not taste like the same place we knew for so many years. Reported it to owners & they want to accomodate(discount) us on next order but honestly I don't know if we wil take another chance. Ex.. Egg rolls half full & so small, dumplings looked like they were not cooked & not that same taste.. old oil taste on each dish ordered & meat so well done we had to discard. I write this review so that the owners who have gone thru so much with closing down etc due to the virus can correct what went so wrong. We want you back to your old habits & great food. read more

Would give 5 Stars for takeout. Small, not fancy, but FOOD IS GREAT! Clean and absolutely delicious. We had: Crab Rangoons (Literally the best I've ever had), Eggrolls (also excellent and steaming hot), Mixed Vegetables, Sweet and sour pork (absolutely wonderful and not typically something I enjoy) and Fried Rice. Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful. We will definitely be back. Workers weren't the friendliest, but no biggie because everything was wonderful. Unfortunately, our recent experience with this place was very disappointing. Sauces applied to our meals were either inappropriate (catsup based barbecue sauce on sesame chicken?) or tasted as if they'd come from a can (the gravy for the egg foo yong.) Rice was dry and flavorless. I don't know if a recent award for best local Chinese food has led the owners to think they can take short cuts, but we certainly won't be coming back. read more

I would have given it 4 1/2 stars, but there's no option for that, and I'm a tough grader. I have to say that food is very good and priced appropriately for a mostly take out type of place.
