The atmosphere was actually nice and calm. The food is not overpriced and very tasty. I got the steam rice with shrimp (awesome!) wife got the sesame chicken with steamed rice (also awesome) the egg rolls are good! Never really cared for won-tons, personally, from anywhere, so I can't give a non-biased rating on them. However, my wife likes them everywhere and said they were good there, so I will take her word for it, and you should to ;) Overall, for the price and the taste, well worth, and best part, save room because marble slab is next door! read more

***2.5 stars*** Been here twice, ordered General Tso dinner combo both times; first time tasted better than it did last night. My chicken was chalky and super dry; I ate maybe 5 bites. The sauce was also super thin, watery like. The fried rice was ok, not memorable in any way. The mini fried egg roll, gross.....and this is such a disappointment because I LOVE Eggrolls! The crab puff is just straight up a cream cheese puff. Best part of the combo was my hot & sour soup. Like I said, the 1st time I ordered here wasn't as bad. My Tso sauce was still watery but I ate all my chk. My friend liked both of their dishes. Not bad, not bad at all. We used to come here over a decade ago when we lived in the area. We were back over here for an event at the Reliant Stadium and thought we'd head over to the old haunt. We walked in and noticed that it was very warm inside. It was 95 outside and probably 80 inside. I realize the kitchen is most of the restaurant, but they need to cool the place down. This is most definitely a to-go place first and foremost. While we sat there and ate, at least 20 different to-go orders walked out, no joke. Our food came out super fast and was quite good. We had the pork fried rice and the sesame chicken. Both were good, not great, but certainly perfectly adequate. The crispy spring rolls were quite bland and I wouldn't get them again, but I would get the two main dishes again. They have Pepsi on tap, but serve Coke in bottles. So, I won't ding them on that, even if I loathe Pepsi. Overall this place was fine. It is completely a 3 star type of place. No frills, no thrills, just basic Americanized Chinese food. It certainly was filling and we'd stop there again if we were in the area, but no special trips for this place. read more

Let's just say that I can't say I was impressed at all. We stopped by here for a quick dinner and the first thing I noticed was the dense warmness of the air within the restaurant. This could have been partially because of the open kitchen, as it was cooler further back near the restrooms, but still, kind of stuffy. So I had the mixed vegetables dish and it was quite cornstarchy. Almost to the point that it was bothersome to me. And it wasn't exactly flavorful. I will say it was delivered to our table with lighting speed and the vegetables were at least in firmly edible condition. The portion was decent for the $8 price tag, but not like an immense feast or anything. I noticed the two other dishes - a chicken and noodle dish, also seemed cornstarchy. I usually don't pay attention to the cornstarch content in Americanized Chinese food, but it seemed excessive at China Stix. Anyway, probably won't be back here any time soon. read more

If you place a delivery order on Google , it's $1.50 delivery fee with only a $10-15 minimum vs on the phone where it's $5 delivery fee if you don't make the $20 minimum , otherwise it's FREE delivery on $20 + orders. The fried spring rolls and fried cheese puffs (crab Rangoon ) are REALLY good as is the hot and sour soup. Sweet& Sour chicken is solid. Shrimp with garlic sauce is good but I personally don't care for the mushrooms so would substitute brocolli for mushrooms. Fried rice is very good here too. Their lo mein isn't the spaghetti type noodle that I'm used it; it's the flat wheat noodles. read more

I ordered food to be delivered at 7PM, I called multiple times past 7PM to check on my order. I finally got a hold of them at 7:40PM only to be screamed at by the "manager" RICHARD. He is the nastiest and rudest person I have ever spoken to. He was yelling over the phone telling me I shouldn't have canceled my order etc., I told him I was the wrong person and I was actually calling to check on the status of my order. I have only done take out here a couple of times but when I have the food has been quite delicious. I've had both their regular and their house special wonton soup and I enjoy both but LOVE the broth of the traditional. It brings back memories of when I was a little girl and my dad would work around the corner from this (then) nice Chinese restaurant that I would go to as a child and sit and dine for one. :) I quite enjoy their triple crown entree. We have had a couple other entrees and they were good, as well. If you like veggies in your fried rice you will have to ask to add them. My colleague loves this place. We've ordered from there before and I remember not loving it. I don't remember what I had ordered that last time. But this week, I ordered the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce off the lunch menu and it was fantastic! It was very flavorful and not too spicy. I didn't really consider the pork to be shredded though. It was more like It was I love that garlic sauce. Next time, I'll have to try it with shrimp! I also liked the texture of the water chestnut pieces in this dish. Their fried rice is really bland in my opinion. I had to add a lot of soy sauce. And their egg roll was tiny. It was like maybe 2 bites. Of course it came with the lunch along with either hot & sour or egg drop soup. So that's a good deal for only $6.95. I've never eaten at this restaurant. We usually order food for delivery. We order all the time for lunch and the food is amazing. The staff is great and so are the delivery staff. We call to make substitutions that we can't make online and they never say no or complain because of it. I know it is a small place because I have been to the restaurant too but it is so worth it. We work in the medical center and not many places are kind when we order delivery but this place is always nice and helpful. Good food and staff makes for an amazing meal! read more

Wrong soup.. well we ordered the house special fried rice lunch portion with hot and sour soup..I was looking forward to good soup on a cold day.. Well a coworker picked up our order in the sealed brown bag for to the office and there it was egg drop soup.. Not hot and sour.. I was working nearby for the day and decided to have lunch here and did not enjoy it at all. Rice and meat was rubbery and did not taste good. Probably the most bland rice I've ever had.. Food was simply nasty and the broccoli was rock hard and not seasoned, Don't even understand why it was on my plate because it was far from edible. Order taker gave me a hard time initially when I wanted to substitute the rice that came with the order with chicken friend rice and pay an up-charge. Said I could only get both and buy it separately when I didn't want that much food and strongly preferred to just substitute with an up-charge. read more

I have been going to this place for 7 years & it is by far the BEST Chinese food I have ever had, my absolute favorite!! The management & staff hasn't always been the greatest, I had to tolerate it for the food. They ran the place knowing people would come in to eat regardless of whether or not they provided good or any service at all. Last year (2016) the restaurant caught fire and was shut down for a while. Surprisingly, after it has reopened, it's a brand new place, staff included!! read more

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and food at China Stix - especially during the current freeze in Houston (15th - 19th February). My daughter and I were without electricity, heat or water this week when we went searching for food at the Randall's that shares the same strip as China Stix. Intrigued by the line of people outside the restaurant, I discovered they are open and still serving. Once inside everyone is taking Covid-19 precautions well, they are constantly cleaning, and the staff are working over and above to get you in and out quickly. I counted 10 people behind the visible counter (see photo - four cooks/prep, three bagging/plating, two working the tills, one constantly cleaning), no up charge, and the food comes out hot and quick. This was the first hot food we'd eaten in three days, and it was excellent. An order of sweet and sour chicken was enough to re-plate and feed two people easily, plus they still offer combo deals with soup and spring rolls. A very thin crispy batter, well-cooked moist chicken, sauce on the side, and perfect steamed rice. Highly recommend, and my grateful thanks for their efforts to feed us during these unprecedented times. read more

If I could give a quarter of a star I would. I was appalled by the hairs (plural) in all four dishes that we ordered today for lunch. One of the dishes had half of the amount it usually has (I am suspecting the dish fell Over in the delivery car and he just scraped it right back in). When I called to complain the guy who answered had the audacity to tell me to bring in the food so they could see it and then he will give me new dishes. I ordered the sesame chicken combo with fried rice, a egg roll, a cream puff and wonton soup with a drink all for like 12$ not too bad. The sesame chicken was fresh, hot, tender and juicy. However the fried rice and broccoli that came with it were cold I would've like them to be heated up or cooked well enough. The egg roll was small crispy and delicious. The cream puff was perfect with just enough cream. Also, the wonton soup great and the wonton was huge with perfect texture. Overall, it was a great experience I would like to come back and try their lo mein noodles next. Definitely recommend for great inexpensive Chinese food with friends or to take home to go for yourself. read more

I got wanton soup, which was fine, but just the same who wants dumplings and wantons together. And why did the server confirm wanton when I asked directly if it was hot and sour. Ugh. read more
