Went in for dinner yesterday, solo. Took them a while to seat me. They kept seating people behind me, first. There is no bar for single diners, so I waited to be seated. When I was seated, I looked though the menu and found the meal I wanted: spicy chicken- kind of like sweet and sour chicken, but with more spice. There are a couple of options for this. The server comes by and I ask her "I'd like spicy chicken please, but I want to make sure the chicken is the kind that is battered and deep fried, like the sweet and sour chicken." The server tells me she knows what I want and she will bring it. I also ask if there is a smaller portion of vegetable (broccoli or green beans) for 1 person and she quickly said "We don't do small orders. One spicy chicken with rice is enough for one." That's not what I asked, but I didn't want to be combative so I trusted her judgement.
It took almost 40 minutes to get my food. About 30 min in, I stopped a gentleman and asked if he knew how much longer it would take. He shrugged his shoulders and said "Maybe another 5 to 10 minutes." He was unhelpful and was not at all concerned about how long I had been waiting.
Finally, I received my food and what the server brought was not at all what we talked about. I looked at her and she gave me no concern and very quickly walked away. What they brought was unbreaded chicken chopped up with at least five times as many peppers, and a large bowl of white rice.
I didn't want to be a pain so I was totally going to just eat it and pay and leave, but I stopped myself from choosing that path because I waited a long time and I was truly very hungry. So, I sat there, not eating my food, for about 10 minutes trying to get the attention of someone.
I finally had to put my arm in the air and I stopped who I think is the manager, an older woman with a stern face. I said "Excuse me. I think they may have mixed up my order..." before I could finish she interrupted me and was immediately argumentative and combative, demanding that "this is what you ordered." I said this is not what I ordered. She kept looking off into the distance like she had better things to do.
I asked if she could please bring me a menu. She did so. I found the picture of what I ordered, and the picture of what they brought me. I wanted to show her that they are far different things in hopes that they would make it right. However, I couldn't get her attention again for another while.
At this point, I got my wallet out. I put three dollars on the table for my sparkling water. That got her attention! She quickly rushed over and asked what I was doing. I replied "I've waited a long time. You don't seem eager to help me. I'm going to pay for my water and go." To which she replied "You have to pay for the food you ordered." I wanted to say "Well, when you bring me what I ordered, I will pay for it!" but, I thought better of it and said I wasn't going to sit here and waste more of my time arguing with her. She had already made a scene and everyone was staring. She gave me a very dirty look, so I got up and left.
I am very surprised they get away with treating people like this and It makes me wonder how many times they have pressured customers to pay for things they didn't order and sub par meals. I mean, there are straight up pictures on the menu, it's not rocket science. I think what happened here is the server got my order wrong and they didn't want to waste food, so they thought they could bully a customer into being quiet. It very nearly worked.
One star for the service, which was aggressive and highly inappropriate. One star for the food, which was no better than something you'd get at a fast food restaurant (at least what they brought me). One star for selection because why would you expect someone to just eat rice, chicken, and chopped peppers for a meal with no vegetables? At least offer sides.
There's a reason this business isn't on Facebook. No accountability...
Good grief. What a horrible experience. read more
