    Rice Noodles with Shrimp

While I enjoyed eating herring, stroopwaffels and other Dutch delicacies during my stay in Amsterdam, finding Full Moon Garden was a breath of fresh air to my palette. While, it's not the best dim sum I've had (not sure if it's because I'm accustomed to having a Chinese-American palette), I enjoyed a change of scenery. Outside the store, you'll find the menu outside to entice you to come inside. From there, you climb a staircase that leads to a spacious restaurant with modern Asian décor. Daily, they offer both a Dim Sum and a Chef's Special Menu. For my beverage, I ordered a Milk Tea, but found the milk tea to be diluted with water.

This dim sum and Hong Kong BBQ place is delicious! The prices are a bit much but the food is awesome! The menu is massive and a bit overwhelming, but lots of options in case you don't want dim sum. Service is great and the ambiance is comfortable and nice. We got a window seat, which was awesome!! I thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambiance!

Awesome place. Very traditional cantonese restaurant in the heart of Leidseplein - so close to the center and also the non-touristy areas of Amsterdam. I've stayed at the Marriott for years and never went here...I always trudged up to crowded Chinatown. Not anymore, this place seems better than most places up there. If anything is better it is the dining area. Very nicely appointed with a nice view if you're near the window. By the way, they don't serve tap water, only bottled water or tea. Quite common here, which is odd since the tap water is so good. Whether takeaway, delivery or eat in, this is a good choice.

Delicious food! One of the best pan fried noodles we've ever had. Also, our servers were very attentive. We will definitely be back.

We arrived around 4:30, and it was not a problem getting a table although the place was busy. They sat us in the window looking out on the street. The service was prompt, and the menu had a lot of options. We placed an order for seven different small dishes. In short order, the dishes arrived one by one. We were tired from the flight over, but the food picked us up. We got the chicken dumplings, the pork dumplings, the minced beef meatballs, an onion pancake, spring rolls, and a few more items. Everything seemed freshly cooked. The food was good but did not wow us. They give you soy sauce for the dim sum, but I would have liked additional sauces. I did ask for some hot sauce, and they brought me a chili oil sauce which was very good. The staff were very friendly and happy to help with any request. The price was reasonable (two of us for under $50 Euros). The decor is neat and clean. I would definitely recommend.

First, let me say the carpets are filthy dirty, and we didn't realize this until we were seated. There are small flies, flying around on the second level where we were seated. While we waited for our food they were everywhere. We both swatted flies on our legs and arms. We ordered the ribs with bone in black bean sauce to share, and when it arrived, it was tasty but there were small chips of bones in the sauce that made it very unpleasant to eat. We sent that entrée back. We had the shrimp and chicken satay which we only ate half because the satay pieces on the bottom of the plate were just sitting in grease. So we paid for our soda and beer and the satay and departed. This is the definition of a tourist trap restaurant. I find it hard to believe any self-respecting Amsterdam person couldn't find a better Chinese restaurant to eat in.

Seeing a place like this would normally give you pretty substandard food and banking on the Chinese aesthetics but not here. The food was way above average with terrific taste and a large variety. And the aesthetics were very pleasant - especially being on the water! FOOD: So good. We ordered a BUNCH of food knowing we would take some back with us to the hotel. Now, I know I'm coming back whenever we visit Amsterdam. We had the 3 meat plate which had roast pork, cha siu pork, and roast duck. All so good. Really loved the cha siu (which is a Chinese version of BBQ pork). Usually overcooked, this wasn't. We also ordered kung pao chicken which was delicious. Usually kung pao is filled with veggies and other fillers but this was tons of great chicken! And then there was the dim sum. So good. Just yum. And good rice. SERVICE: Good and certainly better than expected. We had a nice English speaking guy helping us out and he was great. The food was served in nice sized portions and it came out relatively quickly. They serve it as it's ready and not in any particular order. Actually made it more pleasant. COST: Reasonable for what you get which is high quality food in a beautiful setting. Definitely worth a return visit.

The restaurant was pretty busy and laid out in a weird place with the toilet up some stairs (not the most accessible). We came for dinner and sadly their bakery was closed and they were out of egg tarts. The beef fried noodles were my favorite, the wonton noodles were good, but the broth could have had more flavor. Nothing wrong with it, just maybe I expected more. Overall I'd give this place 3.5 stars because it was just fine, but since I can't do half stars I'll round it up to 4. Despite the score I gave it I'd probably still come back to try their bakery.

Pastry with BBQ Pork was one of the highlights today. The pastry was flaky and the BBQ Pork was seasoned well. The Pan Fried Pork and Chive Dumpling (D20) was the other item worth a positive mention. The glutinous, or sticky rice, was okay. A bit too salty for me and had a charred in the wok flavor which was heavy. The dough of the rice rolls was evenly thick throughout the dish, but not light. To me, it seemed like the rice roll was made in advance as it had a very chewy texture. They look nice and uniform, but I'd rather have something that tastes good. The biggest disappointment is a dim sum staple, Shui Mai (D02). They were luke warm temperature-wise. And the filling lacked flavor. The balance between the shrimp and pork leaned heavily on the pork, which was a bit gristly. The service is standard for a traditional Chinese restaurant. The staff speak English, Dutch, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Very impressive! They are also well staffed for a Chinese restaurant. The ambiance is the standard fare for a Chinese restaurant too. Focus is on seating, not on decor. There are several dining rooms and there is a case of baked goods at the entrance. Overall, they had some good and not so good items. Pick and choose wisely!
