We've eaten here quite a few times, but not since under new ownership. Woah, big difference. Service was ok, language barrier issues. Gen Tso's anything, isn't very good anymore, sauce is bitter and tangy, but doesn't taste at all like Gen Tso's. Prices are about normal for a restaurant near a city. Omg, love this place. One of my favorite sushi restaurants, very fresh with an excellent assortment of choices. The service is always great and prices are extremely reasonable. Used to be our go-to take out for Friday nights but as of late 2024, new owners, changed the menu and it's not edible. Literally had to spit it out. The General Tao's recipe is horrible, the sauce tastes like orange chicken sauce with a few peppers added as an after thought, the chicken tastes like it's bleached, and they randomly added broccoli to it (we think to take up space for less chicken?) I ordered chicken fried rice and was told that there is no chicken in it, just onion. I would have to request chicken in the chicken fried rice. Just bad . Honestly, after walking in I didn't expect the food to be as good as it was. The decor was basic. No one was really working and for a second, I thought it was a front for like a shady business, because it seemed like they were shocked we ordered food. An average Chinese restaurant in Sewickley. Went here on a busy night. The staff was friendly and attentive. There were multiple things crossed out with a Sharpie on the food and drink menu. We started with some cheese wontons which were pretty good. We had the chicken and broccoli which was great and the sesame chicken which was pretty bland. It is rather overpriced compared to standard Chinese places. It could've been a little cleaner. Would probably venture elsewhere next time I'm in the area. read more

Food comes out fast, service is friendly, okay portions, okay food. Not much to highlight, previous reviews hit it on the head. I was a big fan of the number of lunch specials and the option to choose a side of wonton soup. The additional $1 up charge for the egg roll was a bit much however as the lunch portions are very much lunch portions (no pleasant surprise about how much you're left to take home), so I wouldn't really compliment the price. This restaurant has been in Sewickley for years. I ate with a friend there on Sunday (Easter). It certainly has changed since I was there last, and not for the better. It doesn't serve patrons with the traditional Chinese layout, i.e., no chopsticks, no pot of fresh tea with small, white tea cups (usually free), and no soy sauce. My friend had a beef dish that he said was very tough. He asked the waitress what kind of beef. She said flank steak. He was puzzled and searched the Internet only to find that this cut is used, indeed with this dish. I had chicken and vegetables with Udon noodles. It was OK but difficult to eat. It was or came close to a la carte. Maybe I've been out of the loop to long, but the meal for two with tip was $57. read more

Not only did menu in the onlined day 14.85 but i was charged 16. not good, strike one. i received my chicken, and a lot of it. good strike, so net zero strikes. i then ate the chicken and received a gummy pieceYUK. strike one. THEN i ate food, not very tasty, bland, underseasoned. STREAK 2! not looking good here at PNC parked, let's see where this inning goes. next....... the sauce 2 thin, not thiccccc enufff. We've been coming here for 15 years! Always good service and food. The seaweed salad was almost more than I could finish. Egg rolls were hot and tasty. The hot mustard here is the hottest around. My husband gets the sechzuan beef with mushrooms every time and it's always great! Sushi is a larger portion thán competition and always very fresh! read more

I used to pass 3 other Chinese restaurants to get take out from China Palace. The food has consistently gone down hill over the last few years, and today was definitely the last time I will eat there. I got there a couple minutes before the time they told me to get there. The drive home to eat was less than 10 minutes. My soup was cold - not lukewarm, but actually cold! The rest of the food was barely warm. The portions are small. The Sushi rolls had a single layer of rice grains - so thin you could see the seaweed paper through the rice! The employees were kind despite the disappointing meal. read more

Went to China Palace today for the first time and we got the sushi lunch special. For 12.95 it comes with one miso soup and 3 different sushi rolls. We got a spicy tuna roll, salmon roll, and ell and cucumber roll. The service was really nice and attentive and the atmosphere is nice inside. Definitely coming back for more sushi. read more

quick service, very nice customer service but that's the only reason for the star. the food is severely lacking. half of it came cold (we picked up after 20 minutes as asked) and live five minutes away. the teriyaki chicken and clear soup lack flavor of any sort. and the lo mein and fried rice are mediocre at best.. only because it's hard to mess up rice. for $60 I'm extremely disappointed and dissatisfied in the food here. read more

Ordered a lot of different dishes for Mother's Day. None of them were very good. The schezuan chicken had a lot of carrots and very little chicken. Not spicy at all! The egg rolls were covered in a sheen of oil (or grease). The box that I carried out of the restaurant had a huge grease stain. We won't order anything from here again. read more

I hereby update my 2014 review. China Palace of Sewickley is, by far, the best sushi that I have ever experienced on Earth. I ordered from here consistently from 2005 to 2018 during my time in Pittsburgh. Owner Doris is lovely with a sharp business mind. Never once did I fail to express my dislike of the $2 brown rice for sushi upcharge, and never once did she back down, ha ha! Each time that I have visited Pittsburgh, Grace instructs the sushi chef to create the "deluxe sushi platter for one made with brown rice, old style" for me because she knows that I like the style which no longer is presented on the menu. In fact, when I call to place my order, 3 years later, she recognises my voice and immediately offers me with a telephone smile. I adore her! Chuck is divine as well. Thank you for being my favourite sushi restaurant on Earth. I miss you and look forward to my next order. read more

We've had some good meals from China Palace (CP) over the years, but it's slipping. Our last order of Orange Chicken was tough. And the shrimp fried rice was tasteless. Located in the heart of downtown Sewickley, the China Palace is a great option for sushi and Chinese Food. I met someone here for a business meeting and was quickly seated near the window and enjoyed a lot of natural sunlight from the large windows. Many options and specials for sushi and sushi rolls. On my most recent visit my boyfriend and I ate dinner here and we shared the shrimp tempura roll and the spicy California roll and both were made perfectly and were delicious. We also got the chicken egg fu yung and the Tender Blossoms Stir Fry. I wasn't fond of the egg fu yung but I tend to like my food spicier, however my boyfriend said that he enjoyed it. It's nice that they also have a full bar and they offer several decent wines by the glass, and their alcohol prices are very reasonable. I probably go to China Palace in Sewickley about 6 times a year, and overall I think that they do a really good job at offering a diverse menu filled with traditional Chinese offerings as well as the more standard "Americanized" offerings along with a nice selection of Thai food and a great/delicious offering of sushi/sashimi/rolls. I've honestly never had a bad meal here - so for me, they have always been consistently good and the service continues to impress me - in fact the service has gotten even better in the last couple of years, and the remodeling has given the place a more modern, and expansive feel to it. The only thing that I will say is that even when you ask for something to be spicy (like 10 out of 10) more likely than not you can expect the spiciness to only be about a 5 so be sure to ask for the hot pepper oil or for some hot sauce on the side. read more

Some of the best sushi I've ever had. Lou, the sushi chef, is so pleasant and a really great chef. Their lunch combo, $9.95 for 2 rolls under $6, is what I went with today. I tried their Green Roll with cucumber, avocado, and asparagus and their Shadyside Roll, which was like a Philly Roll. I liked the Green Roll better because it had the right "feel" for sushi; it was crisp and had a nice snap to it. The cream cheese just threw off the texture of the Shadyside Roll, but it was still good, I'm just not used to cream cheese in my sushi! I sat at the sushi bar, so I didn't get to experience the tables or the service there, but Lou was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. It did seem like they were doing a decent business for lunch. When I worked in Sewickley, a lot of my co-workers would come here. It's probably for the best that I waited until after I left Sewickley to experience China Palace, otherwise I'd be here every week. read more

I went to this china place today for dinner. I ordered the miso soup and dumplings. When I got the miso soup the broth looked like it was dirty river water. It tasted okay but the grass looking stuff was black and the texture was very nasty. So when I got the dumplings they looked very nasty. They were brown but I started to eat them. After two dumplings there was something very hard in it. I asked them what it was and they said it was a bone and they sometimes forget to cut it out of the pork. That also happened to my friend that was also at the restaurant. Do not go here it is overpriced and bad food. read more
