1st time and last time we eat at China Kitchen. 3 of us ordered our usual favorites from other Chinese restaurants and then a sampling of different appetizers. We spent around $52 (with an added tip, which I will not do again for takeout unless I KNOW the quality). Everything that was fried tasted terrible of old, unfiltered oil. It ruined everything. The dips and sauces weren't enough to hide the taste. Thankfully we had entrees to eat. They weren't bad, but were not as good as other places. Hidden gem of Muncie. The Shrimp Chow Mei Fun and the Shrimp Egg Rolls are a killer combination. Those Shrimp Egg Rolls are some of the best I've ever had. I'll easily eat three of them right in a row. The food from here has always been stellar for me. One of my favorite things to get is the Sweet & Sour Combo which is a mix of chicken, roast pork and shrimp, but instead of sweet and sour sauce, I get their orange chicken sauce. In regards to Chinese delivery options in the area, this is really one of your better options. In terms of Chinese food options in the area, this is just ok. The lo mein is exactly what I want from Chinese takeout. Good noodle texture and flavor, same with the meat. Not too many onions or cabbage or any other vegetables. It hits the spot. Is it the most authentic? Nah, but that's not why I get it. The jiaozi/dumplings are also pretty good. They don't seem more special than the frozen kind you can get. And you only get two options here: steamed or fried. But, again, they're not bad. The kung pao? Well... that's what I ordered but was most certainly not what I got. Kung pao should not have baby corn or mushrooms. And there was no real flavor to this other than that generic Chinese takeout flavor. No heat -- not even a tiny hint of heat. Just because you put peanuts in it doesn't make it kung pao. It was amazingly disappointing. If you want to try the best -- and I mean it, the best -- Chinese food in Muncie? Go to Dumpling House. And if you want to see how kung pao should look, check out my review for that restaurant. Everything I've gotten there has been amazing and just like I remember from the time I lived in Sichuan Province. Anyway, back to China Kitchen. It's not terrible by all means, but there are better options if you're willing to go out for it. Delivery took pretty much as long as was estimated. I wish they didn't have a $15 minimum for delivery, but given your other options if you want food brought to you, well, I hope you like leftovers because you'll be getting a lot of food. UPDATE: 11/12/15 Decided to try the General Tso's Chicken... and I can't recommend it either. It tasted like sweet and sour chicken. But taste like what you'd expect American Chinese sesame chicken to be like. Sweet, but not like sweet & sour sweet. The Beef in Mala Sauce is probably my favorite dish from this restaurant. It's got a little heat, but a good sweet flavor mixed in with it. It's very well balanced. I specifically request no bell peppers and no mushrooms in this dish. Given the delivery minimum, I tend to use lunch time as my very rare "stock up on cheap chinese food" times. I pick 2 combos (entree, fried rice, and a soup each), and then get some steamed dumplings. For $20 I get enough for about 3-4 meals, depending on how hungry I am when it arrives. This place has really went downhill. I don't recognize any of the clerks or cooks. It used to be that the owners brought their kids in and they would sit in the corner of the dining room and do their homework. The lunches are about 2/3 rice and 1/3 entree. The General Tso chicken is either mushy, or lacking of chicken. Now they even charge 80 cents for a styrofoam glass of lukewarm tap water. Bottom line, the food is not that good, and charging 80 cents for a cup of water is a ripoff. read more

On 1/21/2021 I placed an order throguh Eatstreet. The order was for 2 General Tso's chicken, 1 Sweet and Sour Chicken; all with fried rice for an additional fee, and an order of spring rolls. When receiving the order, I opned the bag to discover 3 orders of white rice. The spring rolls were cold, much tiney in comparison to the usual fare . This is not the first occurence of the order being incorrect from this establishment. I would never recommend this eatery. read more

This is one of those strip mall Chinese food places. Same pictures above the counter. Same printed menu. If you have seen the others you know this one. If you read my review of Chang Fu then you know this place, but the food wasn't even that good. The General Tsao's chicken was mushy and the sauce was not that good. My family seems to like it. I've tried several items: -Egg rolls: good and crispy, decent filling, has that weird pink stuff and I can't decide if it's pork, shrimp, pickled ginger... -Fried rice: super forgettable with barely any flavor (not even MSG!), lame tiny cube veggies that I suspect were formerly frozen. I've had it with meat twice and haven't been able to tell if it's chicken or pork. -Vegetable lo mein: definitely a star for me! These veggies look fresh, and they don't skimp on the mushrooms, snow peas, etc. I could eat a whole plate of this. -Stir fried veggies: not sure of the exact sauce, but overall, not a fan. Pretty gloppy and not a great taste. -Chinese donuts: 10/10 would eat again, although who doesn't like fried dough coated in sugar?! I suspect this place is a Ball State favorite, as I've now had it multiple times at random BSU functions. I've never paid for it so I can't comment on prices, but I suspect they have good catering/large group deals. This is one of our staples for takeout. We pickup once a month and drive 30 mins to get it. Our order is always the same. General Tsao's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, 4 Egg Rolls, Vegetable Lo Mein, Crab Rangon. Comes with plenty of free white rice. They repeat the order over the phone sometimes, but I can't understand what they say. Just take it on faith. They never ask for a phone number or name. Usually just "OK, THANK YOU!"(Heavy Accent)! In 4 years they have only got the order wrong one time. For the Pint's that comes to $20 something. For Quarts $30 Something. Huge American Sized Portions. The Hilarious part is their kids (maybe 8-10yrs old) run the register. It is always an adventure giving your card to child. Wouldn't have it any other way. This is the top of Muncie fast food. My husband and I are newish to the area. We really only knew the Chinese places on McGalliard Rd. Well really, just First Wok. Which is also pretty great. This is the second time we've ordered pickup from them. We ordered the basics that we like every time, Chinese food staples, for us anyway. Crab rangoon, fried dumplings, pork fried rice, plain lo mein noodles (for the kiddos), boneless spare ribs, egg rolls, and chicken and snow peas combo. On the cons: the fried rice is on the dry side, but still it's pretty good. The spare ribs were pretty fatty, but tasted good. The dumplings we've tried steamed and fried both had similar texture to them so wondering if the steamed was a mistake and they sent us a fried? The filling for the dumplings is SO good! It's something I find I judge Chinese food places on is their dumplings. I prefer steamed dumplings and they had a fried or hard top to them which was kind of different, that's why I'm wondering if maybe they sent fried. The fried had a more steamed texture to the bottom side... Not sure what's up with that, but they're really good regardless. I really love the dipping sauce for the dumplings too, really compliments them. So happy they offer plain lo mein noodles too, some places don't offer that. Picky eaters like my kids won't eat the extra stuff in regular lo mein. The egg rolls are good, and crab rangoon is good. My husband got the chicken and snow peas both times. He was super pumped the first time because it's hard to find this dish here in IN. Even harder to find it how it was prepared at this place he used to get the best Chinese he's ever had back in CT. It had more of a clear sauce to it. That's how they made it at Jade Garden in CT. This second time we ordered it it was more of a brown sauce. He said it was still good though. Not sure why it was different this time. Different cook on or something maybe? Over all I felt this place deserved more than 3.5 stars. We ordered China Kitchen for lunch today. After reading the past reviews we were skeptical but pleasantly surprised when our order arrived within 30 minutes, piping hot and delicious. We ordered the D3 off the diet menu which was steamed chicken and veggies with sauce on the side and a tiny side of white rice. Everything was cooked to perfection with aldente veggies. The sauce was enough to take home to reuse since there was an abundance. We also ordered the wonton soup and an eggroll. All hot and perfect they even packed the crispy noodles to put in the soup which was a nice detail. We also got chicken lomein noodles, spring rolls and crab rangoon. Do I even have to give it a star? Dirty, sticky table, soda was not cold, food was terrible and guy with long hair in athletic shorts was rude! If you're going to go anyway, make sure you don't take children in pull ups or diapers. Noooooo place to change them, dirty floors in the bathroom and then he tells me that there is really no place to change my son except in on a dirty filthy floor! Instead of saying I'm sorry that's an area we can improve he just said we have never had anyone try to change their kid in the dining room. Hot and tasty food always ready in 10 minutes! (or so I'm told each time I place a carryout order). The shrimp eggrolls are consistently good. I almost always order the House Special Lo Mein and am never disappointed. The Sweet and Sour Chicken is not prepared at this restaurant with any pretense of vegetables (like pineapple, bok choi, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, or token cherry) and the all white meat chicken is well prepared and packaged separately from the red sauce and white rice. The various entrees are comparably priced and the carry out containers are typically stapled shut due to overfilling. read more

Literally appalled by my experience. The rudest people I have ever dealt with. First of all, I called Szenchuan Garden at 765-289-8007, but apparently that number must rerout to China Kitchen. Anyway, I tried ordering a cream cheese roll (which is on Szenchuan's menu) and was told they don't have that and would be given crab Rangoon instead. I explained I can't eat crab Rangoon, because I'm a vegetarian, and the woman on the phone told me there isn't any crab, just cream cheese. When the delivery woman got to my house, I asked her if there was crab in the Rangoon and explained the situation and she looked at me like I was crazy. With an attitude, she told me that "of course there's crab in it, it's crab rangoon." I told her I couldn't eat it and she shrugged her shoulders and handed me the food. Again, I explained I can't eat the food and asked her what should be done. She angrily grabbed the food out of my hand and took the rangoon out of the bag and told me a new price to pay her (and I included tip, because I don't know how to be mean). I called the restaurant to let management know that I was told the wrong information and that the delivery woman was very rude. Well, I was met with even more rudeness. When I asked to speak with a manager, the woman on the phone curtly said "why?". I said I would like to make a complaint and she insisted I tell her what happened. I explained the situation and she jumped down my throat saying they don't sell cream cheese rolls and that I ordered crab Rangoon. Again I explained the situation, and she kept bringing up that they don't sell cream cheese rolls, which wasn't even the issue. But I explained that their online menu shows they do sell cream cheese rolls, and she exclaimed that "this is China Kitchen, we don't sell cream cheese rolls." I was so confused since I thought I called Szenchuan Garden, but I double checked and that is definitely the number I called. She also told me I should have known there was crab in crab rangoon. So I, AGAIN, explained that her fellow employee told me there wasn't any crab. At this point I was sick of her attitude, so I told her she was being extremely disrespectful and she should be ashamed of the way that company treats customers and I hung up. What was a simple mistake on one person's part, turned into an attack on me. As for the food, I ordered General Tso's tofu, and it's pretty awful. So all around, avoid this place, but mainly because they do not respect customers. read more

Wish I could give two separate reviews, one for service and one for the food. The food isn't bad for being a small scale business. I ordered delivery and paid by card but marked that the tip was not coming off of my card. When the food got here, he handed over the food, but stuck his foot in the door, hand extended into my girlfriends face and demands his tip. She walks over to grab some cash and he proceeds to let our cat outside and continues demanding a tip. I fully believe in tipping, but to be forceful and have a demanding demeanor about it comes across as rude and unprofessional. Maybe he had gotten gipped out of a tip prior to, or maybe it's a cultural difference, but this experience was pretty bad to say the least. read more

China Kitchen has some amazing food. I have never been inside the establishment so I can not comment on how well they maintain their cleanliness and or personality. I do however order delivery at least 2-3 times a month. They have super fast delivery. The food is enough for at least 2 meals with each of their combo meals. The food is always hot when it arrives. I cant say enough for their prices either. I would recommend to everyone if you are in the mood for some real Chinese food.. Then this is the place to order from! read more
