Really, 3.5 stars. Years ago this was our first Thai restaurant and maybe it is better in our memory! Plus we always came for dinner not lunch. So, disclaimers done. We found Thai Smile to be changed since we were last here about a decade ago, and not for the better. Their service is great, as before, and the ambience is also the same. It's the menu and the food which isn't as good. One of our very favorites, the fresh spring rolls, is no longer available, only the deep fried ones. . I ordered the chicken lettuce rolls hoping for a good substitute but it wasn't even close. It was OK, but not nearly as good. My second disappointment was the Tom Ka Gai (coconut soup). It was well made but far far too sweet. RRR ordered the Sweet and Sour soup which he said was alright but not great. He also got the Cashew Chicken which he liked. Bottom line: the prices are more than fair, the service is great and fast, the food is so-so. Wish I could give them a 5. read more

We love this place, it has a cozy family feel and the food is amazing. I have never had a dish there that I didn't like, and I recommend getting spring rolls with your meal. The staff is always kind and the service is quick. My two kiddos even love this place (notice empty plates in picture). read more

Tonight, we made the journey back to Thai Smile from Indy with our best friend who is moving to Florida. It's been 7 years since we've been here and we were NOT disappointed. I ordered my regular, the Sesame Chicken. Still tastes the same as I remember it and the portions are still huge. My husband had his favorite, the Pineapple Tangerine Chicken, which was also as delicious as we remember. I'm a bit sad they don't come around with the giant cauldrons of white rice like they used to, but they did offer more rice if we needed it. The restaurant looks the same as it did years ago, with the same food and same atmosphere. It's a Muncie staple that I hope stays around forever. read more

The service is super quick at this small Thai restaurant! Order Crab Rangoons for an appetizer, and they are probably the best I've ever had! I order the Kra Pow Gai. While it did have some spice to it, I would not say it's overwhelming. If you don't like any spice, I would not recommend this dish. Probably one of the best Drunken Noodles I've ever had & I'm not being dramatic. Piping hot, super flavorful (loved the sauce) super quick service.. a little too quick as I felt rushed. The Pad Thai, chicken stuffed shrimp, and Thai iced tea are fantastic. Having said that, I went in to pickup my order and was ignored for 5 minutes. Multiple staff walked within inches and never even glanced in my direction. I noticed the window pickup, so I got in my car and went through the drive through. I got to the window at the time I was told my order would be ready. It was not. I was told to park and it would be brought out. 20 minutes later nobody came out. Food was tasty, staff was friendly and helpful. Prices were very reasonable. Didn't expect Yummy Thai in Muncie.

The food is amazing, and the service is fabulous. They get your order, then bring out the soup for that day, and within minutes, your entrie comes out hot and ready to eat. I got the Kua Gui. I had never been here but it was a suggestion while with coworkers. The restaurant was very dark and older. I ordered water with lemon which they don't carry lemon. The soup I had was decent, but I could definitely taste cinnamon in it which was an unusual flavor profile for soup. The Garlic Chicken had a lot of garlic flavor, it could have been overpowering for some. It would be an acquired taste I'd say to enjoy this regularly. read more

The dinning room is finally open!!! And their service is FAST. Which always has me wondering freshness. This isn't my favorite for Thai food, but it was convenient. We ordered an order of spring rolls. There was no fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce on the menu--not sure if this is a covid shortage or what. But I found that unusual for Thai places. The chicken pad thai was pretty simple-although it had no vegetables and seemed bland in comparison to past experiences. They also never asked to what spice we would like it prepared. Also, unusual for thai. It was a bigger portion size. The chicken soup was sweet and simple. It felt good on a sore throat for sure. The lettuce wrap was a "self-assembly" and wasn't easy to eat without a mess. The meat inside was good and the soup and wrap was filling. The service felt rushed. We were in, and out within 40 minutes. The server was super attentive and we didn't wait long for anything. This isn't the best place in Muncie for Thai but it is convenient for BSU students and events as its right near campus. read more

Talk about adapt, overcome, and improvise. During the whole covid crisis they have had their employees social distance, have sold and given away face masks to the public. Built a window room to pick up your orders, then they built a drive through instead and in two weeks the owner said they'll have touch less eating experience kind of like Noodles and Co! They also have delivery on DOOR DASH NOW! This whole time they have maintained excellent quality level and wonderful service that Muncie expects. What's even better is that they haven't seemed to loose any of the girls that waited on me in the dining room, they're now the drive through girls or pick up food girls. If you are looking for some solid Thai food in a relaxed, well-decorated place for a very reasonable price & A+ service, come here. The food comes out quick with nice plating with nice portions. I eat quite a bit and felt the portions were just right for me. There is a variety of appetizers (and all that I've had have tasted super good) and the main courses have been home runs for me as well. The sesame chicken here is my go-to and the pad thai is a solid choice too. In short, if you are craving some Thai food, I think this place will do the trick. The service was excellent and the ingredients were fresh. I was forced to give the lower star rating because of one consistent problem--the food is far too sweet. The sweetness of the curry and the Tom Ka Gai made them almost inedible. I am a big fan of Thai Food and have had these same dishes from San Francisco to Washington DC. If Thai Smile would cut back a little on the sugar they would be comparable to some of the best places we have eaten. A minor complaint on my part is the use of onions in the Tom Ka Gai. Just drop the onions and replace them with a few more straw mushrooms and a little less sugar and it would be world class. read more

Had the Tom Yum Soup w/ chicken (hot&'n'sour soup). Has onions, mushrooms, and tomatoes and it's mild on the spice lvl. I also got the Chicken Satay, pretty much kabobs. Surprised my mama for a birthday lunch at Thai Smile (2?) earlier this month. I am coming back to write a review because I have been dreaming about their soup ever since. The soup. Get it. Seriously. Life changing. 5 stars in and of itself. It will cure what ails ya. However, the rest of lunch was pretty standard Thai -- but everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. I had the mixed veggies with shrimp (decent), others had the red curry, the three flavored chicken, and pad bah-mee (with added extra spice). My hot tea came in a huge mug and the really nice waitress refilled it for me :). All in all it was a good experience. Heads up -- they close mid day between lunch and dinner ... So hit it before 2 or after 5. We will return the next time we are in Muncie for sure.... Even just for that soup... :) read more

Recommended by several locals; solid food with quick service! The hotel staff recommended I try the lettuce wraps (appetizer) and garlic or ginger fish (grouper). I chose to skip the appetizer after recognizing it was $7 and waitress admitted it was a meal unto itself for one person. She did talk up the popular garlic fish which I noticed was served on a "bed of shredded carrots and cabbage". The dish was served quickly with a small bowl of rice and arrived exactly as described. If you had told me ahead of time that I was going to eat almost all the carrots and cabbage, however, I would have laughed in your face! The taste of the sweet garlic sauce was awesome and I found myself not only eating the fish, but mixing the sauce with the veggies and gobbling it down. #yum *My four star review does not reflect the flavor as much as the presentation (food processor shredded carrots, not julienned); cheap wine (it tastes like the bottle was $5, not the glass). read more

I can't believe what I've been missing from this place! My guest and I decided to get some Thai food and dine in. Although parking maybe little and difficult, it is all worth the hassle!! The service is extremely polite and fast. We were seated quickly and had drinks in hand in seconds. I ordered pad Thai and my guest ordered red curry! Although I ordered a spice level 4 and was shocked to notice it was actually a little sweet was fine cause it was still delicious although I believe the red curry to be the better dish. This place has great decor and lots of seating. They also have Thai rolled ice cream, which I didn't try but LOVE! will definitely be back to try the ice cream and more dishes to see what else they have to offer! read more

I could have sworn I wrote a review for this years ago. Not sure what happened to it. Thai Smile is sort of the first "exotic" restaurant to come to Muncie. So for that they did Muncie a great favor. Before that we had Mexican and Italian restaurants that weren't owned by Mexicans or Italians. The food here is pretty standard. I must say that they serve massive portions! On the other hand, it is a bit sweet sometimes... Probably to cater to (perceived) Midwestern tastes. read more
