Quiet little place. We ate here two times. Both times there was only one other guest; however, they had just opened. The first night I tried massaman, which was the closest thing to yellow curry that I saw on the menu. . . well the yellow curry I'm used to. I ordered it with a spice level of 5. It was very flavorful but I asked for additional ground chilies. I also tried the cheese Rangoons and egg rolls. Both were very crispy and small, just the way I liked it. They gave use sweet and sour sauce, peanut sauce, and another dipping sauce for the egg rolls. Not sure what it was. Kinda tasted like a pot sticker sauce. The next day I had Pad Thai. It was good. My friend had the red curry soup both days and had one to go. She also ordered chicken wings and paper wrapped shrimp (not to sure of the name). The owner was very nice to us. read more

No one in the place at lunch on a Saturday... I should have walked out. Not great crab Rangoon. I'm spoiled with Thai Thara's in Richmond, I guess. This just seemed like thick fried dough. Not served with sweet and sour sauce; had some sort of soy sauce that tasted oddly alcoholic. :( Moving on... The Thai iced coffee is good. Only one dude running the place: serving and cooking, it seems. I was able to score some silverware from another table since I wasn't given any. Can't imagine how slow it would be if it was busy. The meal was not fantastic. I think of Thai as light and fresh. This was thick, goopy, and heavy, with no veggies but onions. Was not asked spice level and thus was not given any spice. Maybe I ordered the wrong dish. The space is very dated, but it seems clean. I wanted to like this spot as o love Thai and cannot get it where I live. I had a WONDERFUL lunch today at Thai Kitchen. I enjoyed the Thai chicken wings - phenomenal. Wonderful flavor, perfect level of crisp, meaty wings, great sauce. Not too hot for people who aren't big into spice. The flavor was great. A good app for any group in my opinion. The real star was the big bowl noodle soup. I chose beef and spice level 6. Such a flavorful broth!!! I hate when I go somewhere for soup and it's obviously just a boiled bouillon cube. This broth was great! You know something is good when you consider asking if you can come in and order only broth for your own recipes. Spice 6/10 was perfect - gave a great something extra and somehow made the soup feel lighter? My nose was running in that good "I love this spicy dish" way. Never once even thought it was too hot. I'd recommend 5-7 for typical people interested in a spicy dish and 7+ for those who are intentionally looking for spice. Regardless, amazing flavor. I'm used to Thai noodle soup having bean sprouts, cilantro, green onion, and jalepeño as toppings, similar to the way pho is served. This came with a nice soup vegetable medley instead. I would have preferred the former, but the soup was still great all in all. Waitress was great! Very kind and thorough. Owner or manager came by to say hi in a natural way, which I love. Totally clean, no concerns with cleanliness at all. Clean fish tank, which is always a good tell. A small space when you look at it in its whole but they have things positioned so it looks really big and open! I will absolutely be back, especially when I need a good brothy soup. This is one of Muncie's hidden gems. Truly, I've driven by here so many times and have passed it off. Every time I did I was missing out. The place is dated, the decor is dated, but it is SO CLEAN INSIDE, you couldn't find a speck of dust even if you wanted to. You can tell that they take care of their restaurant. The food is traditional Thai food and everything you would expect from it. The owner said he's been here 14 years and is from Thailand. The food was wonderful and I am so glad it is within walking distance from my home. This is a staple in my home now. Don't judge the decor, don't judge that it's dated, it's the food that will speak. The gentleman also went out of his way to make a menu item that they do not have on menu for me. I described it and told him what the name was at other Thai foods restaurants and he made it. After several visits, Thai Kitchen is definitely deserving of a positive review. I have had some of the more traditional/common Thai meals there, such as Pud Thai with chicken, but I thoroughly enjoyed the less well-known Mee Krob with chicken during my last outing. It was fresh and vibrant with vegetables that included carrots, celery, snow peas, broccoli, and onions. It comes atop a bed of crispy noodles which are a fun variety that slowly soften as they soak up the tasty sauce. The Pud Thai was a bit less colorful, but their menu is not lacking in options and variety whether you favor vegetables, meat, or Thai curries. Other reviewers commented on the spice level which I found to be very satisfying. I ordered a 7 and the heat was noticeable, but exactly how I like it. Their heat scale tops out at a much higher level than other Muncie Thai competitors, so keep Thai Kitchen in mind if you're looking for a bit of extra kick. Keep your expectations realistic regarding the speed of service for a small dining establishment. They are friendly and as attentive as possible, but large crowds will slow things down a bit, but the food is prepared quickly once your order is in. For $7, I couldn't be happier with the flavor, portion, and quality of my most recent meal and I plan to be back again. read more

Thai Kitchen is my favorite and closest to authentic Thai you'll find in Muncie. It's the most inexpensive too! Best Thai iced teas anywhere in the area, and the purple rice with mango dessert is amazing! I always start with a red curry soup - delicious! In full disclosure, I really like (the more popular) Thai Smile as well, but it's totally different - much more Americanized. They have more fried meats, a LOT more sugar, curries aren't nearly as good, etc., but their food is quite tasty as well. But if you haven't tried out Thai Kitchen yet, do yourself a favor and give it a shot! read more

Thai Kitchen is my go-to for a fun dinner. Pud Phet, Green Curry Udon, and Mee Krop are always awesome, but while not exactly listed on the menu, the Yellow Curry with pork (at an 8 on the spicy chart) is out of this county, if not out this world. Both the fried and soft spring rolls are great as well. If you still have room (and I often do), do yourself a favor and try the sticky purple rice with mango. It's like suckling on Jesus' teat - that good. Also, if you become a regular, you can ask the chef/owner about Thai faves NOT on the menu, but don't push your luck with this. I eat Pad Thai and chicken Satay elsewhere, notably. Parties of 4 or more - consider ordering family style with one or two double or triple portion dishes. Often there's just one cook and almost everything is made to order. Don't be that asshole 8 top that orders completely different stuff for each seat and expect everything to come out perfectly. TOTAL dive. Do not expect anything less in terms of ambiance. The presentation of the food is just about as fancy as the avacado green-upholstered barstools and the random art on the walls. This doesn't bother me; in fact, I thought it was kind of endearing. The service is rather slow, but the waitress was very nice and apologetic about the wait. The cook/owner (?) agreed to make me a half-order of Pad Thai and a half order of pineapple fried rice so I could sample both, thinking that the portions would be huge. I thought that was super-nice of him, but I grossly overestimated what a half-order would be. Both dishes came out on little dessert plates. They were decent, although the rice had virtually no pineapple to speak of. Boyfriend's green curry tasted like homemade beef stroganoff. Kind of weird. If I could somehow combine the kitschy atmosphere of the Thai Kitchen with the taste of Thai Smile, I'd be a happy girl. Located in a not so great part of town, away from the main business districts, this was a VERY pleasant surprise. We were in Muncie playing a couple of music gigs (how often do you say THAT??) that included an overnight stay, and decided to give this place a try. The food was nothing short of spectacular. The crab rangoon we got was unlike anything we've ever had...it was THAT good. The spring rolls were also above average. And, FINALLY...a Thai restaurant that doesn't skimp on the heat! I ordered my food an 8 out of 10 on the spice scale, and it was VERY spicy...just like I like it. I appreciated the fact that they weren't afraid to add the heat! The atmosphere isn't much, but, for us, that only added to the overall experience. I felt like the service was a little slow and not overly friendly, but, still an above average experience and a welcome addition to the Muncie dining scene. read more

Pud Thai I am certainly no expert on Thai food. This restaurant seems okay to me though and is a good deal price-wise. I had the Pud Thai Chicken and it was just fine. My wife got the Fish Curry. She liked hers too. They have remodeled a bit since the last time I was in there. Watch your head when it comes to the lights suspended from the ceiling. I banged my head a good one by not doing so. Confession. I expected to be disappointed when I looked at the contents of my take home bag. I ordered the spicy noodles and some Crab Rangoon. Although I didn't eat in, I did do carry out. The dine in area is somewhat dineresqe (mainly because of the counter with old style swivel chairs). There is also an improvised baby play room in view of the dining room next to the kitchen (kid present and playing with toys). But that aside. The food was good. I tried this place while visiting friends in Muncie. It is quiet (great for conversation) and we enjoyed the food very much. The shrimp rolls and crab Rangoon were nice appetizers. I had a crispy noodle dish (right below the Pud Thai on the menu) and I liked it. The food might be a little bit Americanized, but we enjoyed it and would definitely go back. thai kitchen is a dive. no qualms there. i don't mind dirty spoons and sticky swivel chairs. i do however have a problem with bad food. i ordered chicken satay and lemon grass chicken with pork. since i was the only person there aside from cook and her baby (parked in a stroller inside the kitchen) I decided to watch the magic happen. grab four skewers of chicken and defrost in microwave. transfer to george foreman grill and let sizzle until done. after watching her grill up that who knows how long frozen chicken she walks out three minutes later with entree and satay neatly packaged. I didn't hear a single wok go on. i heard no clatter of utensils tossing that lemon grass around in hot oil. how was the meal made? at home, i opened up the packaging and find watery slightly cooked rice sloshing around with the saddest looking medley of vegetables i've ever seen. it looked as if they were taken from a 99 cent bag of freezer section vegetables. the pork was tough, chewy, and bland. what the hell goes on here? regardless of ambiance and service, if there is one thing about any thai restaurant that you can rely on it is that the food is always fresh and flavorful. this is the worst thai restaurant i've ever been to. somebody put this horse out of its misery. my god. read more

A family atmosphere to dine in. An old fashioned restaurant. Sometimes the food may take a while, but chill out and drink pop. When the food finally gets to your table, then you will be delighted. The food is almost always awesome. And if you happen to eat there when there is a Thai dish available then try it. Sue is a great cook when it comes to Thai food and even good at American food. For anyone who has spent much time in Funcie, Thai Kitchen seems just about right. Divey with a splash of friendly. The Red Curry was tasty and spicy, the tofu was well prepared, but the brown rice was a bit undercooked. I arrived at the tail end of lunch so the place was void of humans besides myself and the owners, but they were friendly and my meal came out quickly. Freshly prepared food, cooked exactly to order. Not fast food, so expect to wait a little while. Don't expect huge american portion, expect normal Thai sized portions. We all eat too much anyway. You will receive "enough" to eat, but you won't leave stuffed. Try the spring roll appetizers and pineapple sauce while you're waiting on your food.. Delicious! Price is great for freshly cooked, hot food. The owners are wonderful people who will substitute any ingredient on the menu that you don't like for something else. Granted the atmosphere is a little tired and not all that plush, But I didn't come there to look around, I came to EAT! Chinese type and thai restaurants usually look tacky anyway. My husband and I have had lunch at Thai (formerly Sue's) Kitchen twice in the past week (5/16/12 and 5/18/12), and on both occasions, the food was incredibly tasty. I highly recommend the fried calamari, which is succulent, and the peanut sauce for dipping is top notch. I also had the fried shrimp rolls, and they were excellent. The desserts are awesome, especially the purple rice with mango, which is my favorite. Another great dessert is the homemade coconut ice cream. It tastes divine, and it is very refreshing. There are many other choices on the menu, which I want to savor on return visits. I am confident everything on the menu will be wonderful. read more

not only the worst thai I've had in 30+ years of enjoying thai food, but one of the worst meals we've ever had. The tom ka soup tasted like dirty dish water with lime juice (not fresh lime juice but bottled). A piece of chicken was so bad in taste and texture I spit it back out. The masaman curry was not just tasteless but odd tasting. not sure what they did to it but it was like no thai dish i've every had. The eggplant dish was just as bad with the eggplant so salty we couldn't eat it. The rice (pretty hard to screw up, was dry and unappetizing). So a few bites in and we decided it was so bad we paid the bill and went to find something else for lunch. We'll eat bland. we'll eat something that doesn't taste like what it's supposed to if it's half way good. But we've never had an entire meal so bad that we left it mostly uneaten. The waitress must have noticed that we didn't eat the soup as we had move it to the end of the table, but said nothing. when we went to pay the bill a moment after receivinig the food, she must have figured we didn't like it. but she didn't ask and we figured there was no fixing it. If i could give zero stars i would. if the owner has any conscious they'll refund our visa. read more

I love Thai Kitchen, it's normally pretty slow, laid back atmosphere but it is a gem on the south side of Muncie. It's less expensive, and you get a human sized portion instead of enough for 3 ppl, but normally I eat half and still take some home for a snack later. Clean, lovely decor, I love getting green curry udon noodles, hand fried crab rangoon, pot of hot green tea. Perfect for getting away from the normal crowd for a quiet delicious meal or a date. read more

I love this restaurant. I like the atmosphere -- it's old-fashioned and spotless! Yes it's on the south side but isn't it fun to find a gem of a restaurant in an unpredictable place rather than on restaurant-row? You can eat at the counter or in a booth. The cashew chicken is wonderful and we got our food very quickly. Our waitress was friendly and did a great job. You can also request brown rice for those who are health-conscious.
