I'm taking away a couple stars because last time I was in here the service was absolutely abysmal. We were told to seat ourselves and we waited. And waited. And waited. Never got a chance to even place our order. Never even got waters. We finally just left (and still weren't acknowledged) after being told to sit. They weren't busy (one other table). Makes me question whether I'll be returning to be honest. I like to support local but I don't think it's too much to ask to expect the very very basics of decent customer service. read more

Was looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant like my home town and I found it. The place was a throwback to the 60's in a strip mall and just the type of ambiance you would expect when you walked in. From the BBQ pork with Chinese mustard to the combination dinner, we enjoyed every bite plus took home enough for 3 more meals!! The service was excellent as we were the only ones there for most of our visit. The server, I think she was probably an owner as well, checked back with us often, keeping our drinks full. read more

Before I get to the amazing food, I want to share a beautiful story about the owners of this place. Over a year ago, my parents and I were walking through a nearby cemetery when we noticed a family gathered by a gravestone. As we passed, they smiled, waved and asked if we were hungry. They were holding a remembrance for their father and had laid out a spread of roast pork, sweet buns, and more. Before we knew it, they were sharing their food and their memories with us - an act of generosity we've never forgotten. I made a note of their restaurant that day, hoping to visit someday. Today was finally that day and I don't know why we waited so long! After a surprise reunion, we ordered a feast: hot and sour soup, egg rolls, crab rangoons, potstickers, orange chicken, lo mein, beef with broccoli, pork fried rice, and more. Everything was delicious, the portions were huge, and the prices were unbeatable. We have leftovers for days. Everyone needs their go-to Chinese spot and I'm so happy we've found ours. We exchanged numbers and I'm already looking forward to joining them again next year to honor their father. read more

We ordered takeout for the second time since the new owners changed the name and menu. We were happy someone took over the old Noodle and Cafe spot and opened up the seating area again. The menu is now more traditional American-style Chinese food. They have chow mein (crunchy noodles), chop suey, and lots of breaded and fried proteins. We're a fan of lo mein and chow fun noodles and they did have some nice veggies with your protein of choice. The orange chicken we had last time was pretty average so we gave the sesame chicken a try this time since it comes with steamed broccoli and it was pretty good. I love honey walnut shrimp so I had to try it. The ratio of breading to spring is probably 2:1 but it was fun to try. They have a variety of combos that a generous size for $12.50-$16.50 so they would be a good deal for 1-2 people if you wanted to try a few things without having tons of leftovers. They also do family dinners with are $12.50-$13.95 per person. I was very happy to see that they don't add MSG and it was printed right on the menu. We ordered online and picked it up. A nice young lady was working at the counter. The portions of the meals were pretty good and they gave us an extra large white rice (I hate it when of run out of rice for my leftovers). They even gave us a free order of donuts covered in sugar! I would say, for me, the food would be closer to three stars since it was very heavy of the breading and not a ton of veggies in most meals (unless you get an all-veggie dish, but it's probably four stars for their execution of American-style Chinese food, their service (and ease of ordering online), and the packaging of the takeout food. read more

This evening was the first time our family has eaten here, or even heard of it. I'm pleased to say we've got a new favorite Chinese restaurant in Eugene! We ordered sweet & sour pork, house special fried rice, Singapore chow mein and crab rangoons. All very tasty, with fresh ingredients and large servings (leftovers for lunch tomorrow!). We used to go to this restaurant under its previous owners. Tonight we ordered to go and picked it up on our way home from fishing. The link on the Internet took me to a restaurant webpage with a menu that had very reasonable prices. When I arrive to pick up our food, it was $126! That was so much more than I expected. As I left, I grabbed one of the paper menus at the checkout counter, so I could see the true prices of the food. Upon reaching our house and starting our meal, I realized that we were missing our house special chow mein. After dinner, I added up the dishes ordered using the current menu's prices, and I was within $0.10 of what I was charged. I called the restaurant, and the woman checked my order, stating that she had not written down the chow mein. When I told her that the bill I paid was equal to an order that included that dish, she told me that the paper menus did not reflect updated prices. What a poor business model! So, how was the food? It was fair at best. The sweet-and-sour pork had very tiny pieces of pork inside a huge amount of breading that was over fried. The subgum chicken was tasteless at best. The war wonton soup was divided between a large and small container, but most of the wontons were in the small container. It was hard to split the soup up between multiple diners. I guess the bottom line is, we will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

I placed an order for pickup here a few weeks ago and was surprised by how much food I got. For about $40 I had lunch for days! I got the chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein, and orange chicken. A side of white rice was included for free. I've been looking for a place with really good lo mein in Eugene since I moved here three years ago and I finally did. I recently moved around the corner from this restaurant and was so excited to find it and give it a try. The lo mein is exactly what I was hoping for. It's perfectly seasoned and doesn't have bean sprouts, which I was thrilled about because I can't stand bean sprouts. The chicken fried rice was also really good and I would definitely get it again. I enjoyed the orange chicken but I think I want to try something else next time just to branch out, as orange chicken is not my favorite to begin with. Since I got my food to go I can't really comment on the dining area, but the lady who handed me my food was very nice. The waiting area had some chairs and it was pretty quiet even though there were people eating in the connected dining room. The restaurant is in a strip mall with ample parking, so that should never be a problem. I will gladly come back here many more times in the future. read more

They also included a nice desert for free. This can easily feed a family of 4-6 depending if there's kids. The person that answered the phone was really nice & made sure to ask me if I knew what I was ordering. Which... I ended up changing an item after further clarification. Lol. This is the newest out of many Chinese restaurants that have been in this spot. To be clear I believe this to be the best one yet. We had the best experience in the new dining room. The food was such amazing quality. The salt and pepper chicken is amazing! We ordered The egg flower soup, garlic chicken, general tao, mandarin chicken, combo appetizer platter, and the special and they were all better than anyone else in town by far. I have been searching for good Chinese and unfortunately after trying over 12 places in the 541 hadn't found any that were actually good quality food. This place has changed my mind of all that and happens to be so close to home. I will be back many times and might even use them for catering soon it was that good! The service was great and they always made sure we had water and tea. It's so nice to see a place that so many people have tried to make successful actually hit that mark. I really don't know where all these 4 or 5 stars reviews came from until I'd realized that it was all from none Asian people. First of all, my wife and I have gone through a lot of Chinese restaurants. Some are authentic Chinese and some are catering to American people. Either way, some are really good and some are ok. But never have I thought these restaurant could be these bad, to the point where my wife and I agreed to discarded the foods we had order after a few bites. At first, we tried to convince ourself that is not as bad as we thought. But after a few bites, we just couldn't do it. I'll attached the photos of we discarded. I'd ordered a fried shrimp, Mongolian beef, and king pao chicken for take out. The total was $45. And I've even tipped 15% on take out. I can tell the oil that fried the shrimp was stale because I can tasted it from the shrimp. The Mongolian beef looks like I don't know what you called it. Gravy beef? You'll see it from the pic. The kung pao chickens, I really don't know what to called it. But at least show some effort in your cooking. In these case, I can see there's none, what so ever. It's like they don't give a sht about what their customer think. That's how much of the foods we'd discarded. I know I'll never order from these restaurant again. Trust me, it's not just the food, it's the fact that it was cooked with such sloppiness that I felt insulted. I really did feel like a sucker afterward. I swear. read more

I don't live near the place. Chicken was slimey and tasteless. Pork tasted funny like it was old. Chow Mein gloppy and starchy. Fried Shrimp was flat and over cooked. Craving Chinese food so googled what was near me. China Kitchen has 4.6 stars on Yelp, and 4.4 stars on Google, so I was excited to try it out. I ordered one of the "family meals" that feeds two people, for $28. I was shocked when the woman at the counter handed me the bag, it was SO heavy. Weighed it on my kitchen scale at home, 9lbs 7oz of Chinese food, for $28!! (Photo taken after we made two plates out of it) Huge portions, very affordable. Unfortunately, it's also the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my entire life! Baffled by all of the 4 and 5 star reviews this place has, most of them claiming it's the "best Chinese food they've ever had." It all literally tastes like soggy cardboard. It's a great deal if you need to feed multiple people on a budget (and maybe have your own sauces to doctor it up at home) but for me, the generous portion sizes do not at all make up for the awful food. We were loyal customers of the previous owners at this location under a different name, but we have been very, very pleased with the food and service here as China Kitchen. We've picked up takeout about five times now and have tried ginger onion beef, cashew chicken, General Tsao's chicken, honey walnut chicken and lemon chicken. All were excellent, though the ginger onion beef is our favorite, with a flavorful sauce and lots of vegetables. The lemon chicken needs just a little more lemon in the sauce, but, like all their dishes, was cooked to perfection. Carryout is packaged well and nicely hot when we get home. Prices are a little higher than previously, but the generous portions make up for it. All in all, we like it better than any other Chinese food in town. read more
