I stopped by China Gate to pick up a DoorDash order, and I was impressed with my experience. The lady at the register greeted me as soon as I walked in and was very friendly, which was a nice touch. The restaurant looks clean from what I observed in the lobby, and I appreciate that their kitchen is open for viewing--you can watch them cooking right there, which feels reassuring and fresh. Since our normal Chinese restaurant changed hands we were looking for a new haunt. Let me say that the moo goo gai pan and egg rills were some of the best I've ever had! The spring rolls sadly were flavorless and mushy. The hot n sour soup needed more flavor but still edible. The wings were good! This is a small restaurant, with a limited amount of seating, probably better as a take out choice. You order at the counter and grab one of the small tables, and they'll bring the food to you. There is almost no ambiance, and it is a bit warm, but the prices are excellent and the portions are huge! We ordered Black Pepper Chicken (one of my favorite dishes when done properly) with an Egg Roll and Fried Rice, and BBQ Spare Ribs (bone in) also with Fried Rice and an Egg Roll! The food was out quickly, and everything was hot and fresh tasting. The ribs were big, but tender, though the BBQ sauce was sweeter than most, and a little went a long way. The Black Pepper Chicken was very, very well done, with a nice tasting sauce, and no extraneous veggies to muck it up. The Fried Rice was good, though a bit bland, but some soy sauce brightened it up. The Egg Roll was super, not a hint of greasiness! This is solid Americanized Chinese fare, nothing cutting edge here, and the surroundings are plain and functional, but for a quick, tasty, reasonably priced lunch, you could do much worse. read more

I ordered a combo and red flags should have alerted me to get out of their when they said you get a free soup of your choice for ordering the combo so for $8 i got General Tso chicken fried rice an egg roll and soup. The sauce on the chicken was bland, egg roll greasy and the soup i actually made me throw up. Completely unacceptable. I called in and tried to place an order and the guy was so rude. It was 40 minutes before they closed and I had asked if I could place an order, but I would understand if they couldn't deliver my food. However, when I called in to ask if I could order for delivery yelled NO at me! And then when I asked if I could order for pickup he again yelled NO and then hung up on me. Hands down the best Chinese food in Burlington. It's right over by the Walmart and looks quaint from the outside but super clean and comfortable inside. They have larger portions, fresher food, cheaper prices for lunch and dinner, and the highest sanitation rating of any Chinese restaurant in town. Even though they already have low prices, they give you a 10% discount for showing them your Phoenix card. This brought the cost of a huge lunch mound of Sesame Chicken to 5.02 after tax. I usually go over here before I shop at Walmart so I don't buy a bunch of unnecessary junk. Always Super Freakin Satisfied. read more

Better than average strip mall Chinese. They served my dine-in meal on a real plate which I felt is above and beyond for these spots typically. I had the Hunan Chicken and it was tasty though quite salty. It wasn't greasy like some places do which was nice. read more

I have Ordered delivery from this place five or six times at night. Four times I have ordered from them I did not receive what I ordered and they're very uncooperative about doing anything about it. I have ordered from here on many occasions. They are definitely not the cheapest but they deliver. I order the same thing almost all the time. The two combinations come to $20. This occasion I called in my order and they asked me to hold. When they got back on the phone they told me I had to order 5 more dollars to get delivery. I explained that I order the same thing all the time and it's never been a problem they said they didn't look up my address before. That they did now because the driver told them it was far. I went to map quest while I was on the phone and it's 5.2 miles and their limit is 5 or I had to order something else. They lost a customer over .2 of a mile, that's my driveway...so I went to Shanghai and the same order was only 16 without delivery fees added and I didn't have a minimum spending amount. read more

When I called to ask the restaurant about the mistaken order I was told no that's what I ordered I didn't order the item I asked for. I have never been more disgusted at a business in my life. I ordered food and the total came up to over 25 dollars. I got it delivered and the driver was smoking in the car with our food. I get inside and I taste the food and the food tasted like smoke. I called and I asked if there is something we could do. We acknowledged the roads were bad after the snow. They were very rude and wouldn't give us a refund even if we brought the food back. We were hung up on three times and then told we were over reacting and ridiculous and told there were three different owners. Then the last time one of the workers said 95% of the people smoke and we should stop being picky. Then he proceeded to mock me and hang up on us. Even setting low standards for cheap Chinese, this was pretty bad. Garlic chicken tasted like curry, hot and sour soup tasted like nothing.

Update #2. I have been ordering different things off their menu trying to find something great. Tonight I ordered the walnut chicken. When I searched for that dish online, it looked like it would be a mayo based sauce on fried shrimp with roasted walnuts. When it arrived it was shrimp in a brown sauce with raw walnuts. That would have been fine, I guess, except that the only size available to order this in was large, costing over $10, and there were only 10 pieces of shrimp in the whole thing. The rest of it? Over half of it was just broccoli. I picked them all out and they formed a giant pile on the lid. I HATE BROCCOLI. It is gross and not what I ordered. I wanted to eat shrimp. NOT BROCCOLI. Seriously.
