I have never cared enough (or, I guess, had a bad enough experience) to actually invest my time and energy to review a business. The experience I've had this week with New China Garden compelled me to share my experience to warn others. We are all dealing with very expensive food prices and often lack-luster customer service these days. So, when we do choose to patronize a business, the least we should expect is to be treated with a respectful exchange. After multiple items were missing from my order, I called the restaurant. I was told the manager would call me back. I was told that every day for four days. On the fifth day, I demanded to speak with the owner. The owner was disrespectful, was literally screaming at me for bothering him, talking very loudly over every word I attempted to speak and even called me a "crazy lady"! Please do not continue to support these businesses that do not care any more about us than this. There are other restaurants besides yours! I've never had such an experience with a business. I have grown up in this neighborhood my whole life and came back and bought a home in colonial village. China Garden has been one of my favs in town. Their egg rolls, orange chicken, sre amazing, shrimp chow mein is a staple for lent. There are a few other places that are just as good in town but china garden is my top choice! read more

3 stars for food. But the service isn't the friendliest. We get the egg drop soup and it is pretty decent size but you only get one bag of the crispy noodles so we always ask for extra. We never get the extra or they try to charge $1 per bag when the menu says .75. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but food is expensive these days and the crunchy things are part of why we like the soup. read more

I've been eating here since middle school or at least high school. The food is more or less your typical Chinese joint, but they have a few items that I've grown to love. Recently the broccoli with garlic sauce is a favorite. But hands down, the dish that set the bar, is the pork Lo Mein. It is what I judge all other Lo Mein against, and not just around Lansing. I am talking Austin, Dallas, Houston, New York, Chicago, Tampa, San Diego, and a wide variety of other places I've travelled for work. I will generally try the Lo Mein to see if it matches up to my favorite. New York was pretty good and this place in Chicago was close, but honestly, I have yet to find a Lo Mein that I will order more than once. We just ate there this weekend and did the same thing we did the last time we were there, I got a Lo Mein to go. read more

This place has awful customer service! I ordered through them using GrubHub and after some time went by with no delivery from GrubHub, I contacted China Garden directly to inquire about my order. I clearly stated more than once that I had used GrubHub to place my order and that I just wanted to make sure it was received on their end, but the woman on the phone was so rude and nasty and wasn't listening. She asked me for my phone number and address and once I gave them to her she yelled at me that they do not deliver to Holt and abruptly hung up the phone on me! I ordered lunch (shrimp fried rice and two shrimp eggrolls) from China Garden through Grubhub, and they say delivery is 50 - 60 minutes, they delivered in about 45 minutes. Not bad, but it was at 1:25pm, a slow time for lunch. I asked, through Grubhub, for mustard packets for the eggrolls, they sent 5 packets of duck sauce. Either Grubhub didn't include this on the order, or the restaurant ignored it. Food was good, however, not great. read more

I love the lo mein here, so yummy. Everything is prepared really fast and the prices are affordable. The one time I ordered delivery the order was incorrect but I think they switched my order with someone else's. Other than that, I have only had positive experiences here. read more

We ordered Mongolian beef, pork fried rice and crab Rangoon. It was one of the best Chinese meals we've had since moving to the area. Only small complaint was that the Mongolian beef had too many onions and none of those crispy rice noodles. But it was still delicious! read more

I've been ordering food from here for so many years, family included. It's in my top places of Chinese food because it's always good to me. I tried ordering during the lunch time today because I always order during dinner. The woman who always works there had a hard time understanding that I wanted 2 lunch combos and 1 regular combo with the egg roll. Me saying lunch combo upset her because it's not the actual combination platter and was confusing her. I usually talk to the guy and he's always so pleasant and I've talked to the woman a couple times. She has more of the accent and it's hard to understand her so as she was reading my order I was trying to understand and we were not on the same page with what I was wanting. She hung up the phone and when I called back she's yelling at me telling me I'm crazy and I'm making the order difficult by saying lunch combo and it's not a combo. I have never been hung up on, called crazy, and yelled at by anyone at a restaurant. I hung up the phone and was very tempted to handle this in person once I got on my lunch break. But, I will no longer support this establishment because of this. It's unfortunate because I enjoy the food, but her not being clear on what I wanted doesn't give her the right to be rude and disrespectful. I overheard them talking about putting soy sauce in white rice when I ordered brown rice and they didn't have it ready-For the record I can tell the difference. This was only after I came back for the rice they replaced with fried rice, which was for my vegetarian wife.The have messed up my last 4 orders in a row. Great take out Chinese food!! We've gone here for over 10 years. The service is prompt & efficient. Food is hot, tasty, freshly made & portions are large. We've had company in town from Detroit, Minneapolis & Augusta - ALL have said it's some of the best Chinese they've had. Egg rolls are typically crispy & filling. Crab Rangoon is great, creamy, not tons of crab per piece. Hunan chicken is spicy with all white meat chicken, fresh broccoli, carrots, baby corn. Yum! As a sales rep, I ordered china garden often for offices & they consistently had positive feedback - a rare feat in the sales rep world sometimes! They always asked that I make sure to bring the egg rolls & crab Rangoon. Good noodles & fried rice. Can't imagine why you wouldn't want to try this place! read more

My coworker and I went today to get lunch. Food was prepared fast, staff was friendly. Car ride back to our work site we noticed the food smelt really bad, turns out it was the rice. My coworker wasn't happy with the taste of his chicken and I couldn't really taste anything with mine (I got the orange chicken) I got about half way through my chicken and put a piece in my mouth and it tasted like rotten fish. I ran outside, spit it out and almost threw up. Moral of the story. Nice pepole, terrible food read more

Mixed bag of reviews so I decided to try it. If I've ever been here before it was a long time ago and I should have known there was a reason for it. Fresh out of customer service training, this place is definitely an example of how not to provide customer service. Reception was cold and the woman who took my payment said very little to me. It was also a sign. Got the food home - the portion size (got the combination plate) was no more or less generous than any other Chinese place. I got the Szechuan Chicken dish, which is marked as being spicy. Not only was it not spicy, it had little flavor period. I mainly tasted fried oil flavor. The fried rice in the dish was decent. The egg roll was ok. The fortune cookie was the best part. That speaks volumes. In addition, this was a take out order that included no utensils and no napkins. I will not be going back. On Line Ordering...BEWARE! I recently ordered online and was thrilled to see that if I ordered to combo platters I would get free Rangoons...so I did...I ordered Ribs & General Tso, paid the extra plus $2.50 for delivery and a tip for a total of $26.00. Once my order arrived and I took it from the bag, I was disappointed to see not one Crab Rangoon in sight! I immediately called the restaurant and talked with a very heavily accented woman, I informed her that the sight clearly stated that if I ordered 2 combo's I would receive free Rangoons...she was quick to cut me off and tell me this was only for "PICK UP" orders...I again tried to explain to her that the menu on the site "NO WHERE" reads that information...she would hear none of this...she was right, I was wrong...end of it. If I had just ordered General Tso and Crab Rangoons the total with tip & Delivery would have only have been $18.00, so in essence their false advertisement made them $8.00 plus saved them product. Ohhhh...and the food was not that good either...the ribs where tough, the rice was yellow (never had yellow rice before) and my General Tso looked and tasted like Honey Chicken...no heat to it...the egg rolls were gritty with grease as well...yuck!!! In reality...The Fair Business Act calls this Unfair Business Practice and False Advertisement...so beware when ordering from this place, and by the way...I paid $2.50 for delivery...why should it even matter if it's pick up or delivery...hear scratchier on that one!! read more

I was a delivery driver for this place from February-November 2017, and I want to present the facts. They don't have their health code score displayed to the public. They sit around on smart phones and computers and eating food constantly, but don't wash their hands before going back to cooking, or even put on gloves for that matter. They're constantly taking the cordless phone to the restroom with them. The mom, who runs the fryer and the register during the day, is constantly sticking her tongue out over peoples' food, and she is also constantly leaning her elbow on peoples' food boxes to keep them closed while she answers the cordless phone that has been in the restroom. These things really put into question the ServSafe Certification on the wall. The restaurant itself only pays their delivery drivers $1.50 per delivery, with the rest of their pay coming from the delivery charge and tips(hence the reason the charge is so high), and they do NOT get paid by the hour, nor are they offered make up pay when they make less than minimum wage; they are also forced to do deliveries upwards of 9 miles one way or they get fired. They refuse hire legal, legitimate employees in favor of paying under the table, so they think they don't have to pay their drivers more, resulting in them typically hiring drivers with criminal records or warrants. My point: Unless you go in and monitor them while they make your food, don't order it. read more
