We called in at 5:22pm and it is currently 6:25pm as I'm writing this review. We were told 20-30 minutes and it's been over an hour. Unacceptable, and plus, it doesn't help when the kid up front just says it's not ready yet. Of course it's not ready yet. Now we just finished eating all the food. One word: Horrible. We ordered a lot: Kung pow chicken, General Tso's chicken, Mooshi pork, curry beef, beef lo mein, pepper beef, combo fried rice, orange chicken, beef broccoli. Everything was terrible. They had all the time in the world to make all of our dishes decent but they did not. The orange chicken and General Tso chicken were absolutely hard. It seemed like they use premade or pre-cut piece of chicken because they're all the same shape and the texture was hard as a rock. The curry beef was basically as if you just got the golden curry packs from an Asian store, but watered it down so much. The lo mein was very mushy and the only thing that was redeemable about it was the large amount of beef that they did put in. However, it's sad how the beef and broccoli and the pepper beef hardly had any beef. To top it off what made it worse was how the combination fried rice did not have any color. It was just a bland thing with barely any type of umami in it. Plus the rice just felt like it was regular hard-boiled rice instead of fluffy rice that was properly stir-fried. If you're traveling from out of town for vacation here and are craving Chinese food, this is not the place. You will not be getting good quality Chinese food. This is worse than even Panda Express and if you can get better, Chinese takeout at Panda Express than a local joint here, then what's the point of going to the local joint the first place. read more

This is our go to Chinese Restaurant, we stumbled upon it 4 years ago and have made it a regular for us! I see other reviews saying recently things have changed but we disagree! For Christmas Eve we ordered 7 meals, low mein, dumplings and crab Rangoons! The meat is always tender, the sauce on the general tsos, orange chicken and Kung pao is flavorful and has a spice. First of all pay with a credit card. I payed cash and the owner held back my change and acted like he didn't know how to count. We ordered Garlic Chicken and Garlic Shrimp. Both were not that good. They tasted kinda like an Orange glazed dish. We also ordered the bone in spare ribs. They were kinda dry. The Fortune cookies were the best part of the meal. Went there 2 yrs ago and then last week. Food remains terrific with really fresh ingredients and huge portions. Chef still accommodates dietary requests since we eat gluten free. Mixed fried rice had a load of meats and shrimp. Twice cooked pork had a bunch of roast pork that looked like it was made inhouse. China Express & Concierge Service We've been searching for the best (and closest) Chinese food to be had around here and I think we've found it! We had a wonderful meal from China Express last week and the pickup experience felt like a concierge! Call ahead, order your meal from the friendly & solicitous staff (asked about green onions and veggie preferences - we said we like them ALL) describe your vehicle, drive up to the restaurant - park - no need to even get out because they will hand deliver the order to your passenger side window, running your credit card right there curbside! Magic! The food was yummy! We really enjoyed the sesame shrimp, chicken with cashews, cold sesame noodle, Szechuan wontons, pot stickers and of course - wonton soup. All packaged beautifully with all the expected accoutrements (or as my Dad calls them - cooter-mints) from the hot muster and duck sauces, chopsticks, fried crunchy wontons, to the fortune cookies - everything was delicious and top notch. The vegetables were especially well prepared - crunchy & tender crisp! Some people swear by matzo ball soup for when you're not feeling 100% and I bow in respect - but my go-to is Wonton soup. Incredible Chinese food with friendly staff and made to order entrees. We get this Chinese food every time we are at the beach, it's that good! Plus they bring it right out to your car and the guy rides one of those one wheelie things, it's pretty cool. We got crab Rangoons, egg rolls, shrimp lo mein, and veggie fried rice. The crab rangoons are the little pinch pot shape which I love. The egg rolls are big, crispy, and delicious. The shrimp lo mein is excellent, the shrimp are little but there are a lot! The veggie fried rice was great - and they asked if I wanted all the veggies, which leads me to believe it is made fresh to order. I actually asked for extra water chestnuts and they added them! Not many Chinese food places would offer this in my experience! The whole order comes with what seems like homemade duck sauce, it is very orangey and delicious. It also comes with those crispy noodles you would get at a sit down Chinese place. Overall, everything was great, they're very friendly on the phone, and we will be back again next time we are at the beach!! read more

When I started to read the reviews on this place, I was so confused/suprised about all the great things that are being said. So of course, I had to try it for myself. And I will say, this chinese takeout spot is a pleasant surprise. Here's 3 reasons why you SHOULD order from this takeout restaurant: 1. This establishment is detail oriented- When I called to place an order, they asked if I wanted dark or light meat, spicy or not, if I wanted onions in my fried rice, if i wanted broccoli in my General tao's. Never have I ever thought I'd have so many detailed options on my chinese takeout- since it's such casual dining I always thought it as more of "what you see if what you get" sort of deal, but not here! 2.The food tastes like it was made from the soul- Everything was fresh and homemade while still being able to satisfy your chinese takeout cravings. It also wasn't heavy & greasy like you'd expect, so you won't feel bad afterwards that you ate takeout. They gave us tons of sauce, cookies, and those fried wonton strips that are so yummy! Also there was this chili oil that is DELICIOUS!! 3. There is a man that comes out of no where with your order on a electric unicycle- This was the cherry on top. An absolutely brilliant concept that speeds up the curbside pickup process. I swear we didn't even have to call, he spotted our car then zoomed to the back of the building to get our order and brought it promptly to us. He made sure to emphasize that his hands were clean before handing us our food and not to mention he was actually wearing a quality mask not jus a face cover ( you'll see what I mean when you go there). They also return your card back in a little white baggie which is nice. To be honest, I find the food scene down here in bethany to be okay and nothing special- however Im glad that I found this gem. The whole experience was unique & I will be ordering from here every time I come down. I will say, out of all of the places I have ordered during the pandemic, this is the ONLY establishment that takes many precautions, so don't be worried about ordering. I almost get the impression that a couple of MBAs decided to buy a Chinese restaurant and "do it the right way." This is an exceptional Chinese Carry-out for phoning in. Their menu online is accurate, and during the order they solicit specifics about each item (small/large, spicy or not, mushrooms...) You then get an estimate of when the food will be ready, and they ask you to describe your car. At the appointed time, they spot your arrival, and bring the food directly to your car. Your credit card is returned in a little wax paper sleeve. Details like that are indicative of the service you receive. The food is arranged in bags and each little box is actually marked with its contents. The food itself is very good- the vegetables fresh (vice frozen), and the fried rice (which is an option in every entree instead of steamed) is not oily or too salty. They even ask if its ok to include onions! Historically, we used another nearbyy Chinese Restaurant, which had a much larger menu- but the "user interface" and food quality of this seeming little "hole in the wall" has now earned my loyalty! read more

The staff were courteous and polite, and the prices were actually quite on the low end considering how restaurant prices have risen in recent years. But the quality of the food was mediocre at best. Our party ordered the cold sesame noodles, home style bean curd, and moo goo hai pan. The cold sesame noodles I've had in China and elsewhere generally consist of fine noodles in a ginger/sesame sauce. At China Express, the sauce is primarily flavored with peanut butter, and the noodles are lo mein; a tasty dish, but even though it is sprinkled with sesame seeds I would think that "cold peanut noodle" would be a more accurate description of it. In any case, this was the best of the three items that we ordered. The chicken in the moo goo gai pan was tender, well cooked and very good. The tofu in the home style bean curd was well prepared. The biggest shortcoming in both dishes was the quality of the vegetable ingredients: most (mushrooms, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts) were canned, not fresh, and the acrid under taste associated with them unfortunately permeated the sauces. For me, fresh ingredients are a must, so I don't plan to visit China Express in the future. But if Panda Express is your baseline for good Chinese food then you might give it a try. I have mixed feelings about this place. For the positives: The food itself was very good. I'm not pretending to be some sort of expert, but I eat Chinese food pretty frequently and I've tried several locations around this area and others. The food here was definitely on the higher side of the quality scale. The portions were also large. My sister and I got General Tso chicken, lo mein, and sweet and sour chicken. The General Tso was mine and it was swimming in sauce but the sauce was delicious. The chicken was big pieces that were cooked very well. The employee that I interacted with was also very sweet. She was an older woman who had my food arranged in a fruit/vegetable flat box, but when I told her that I rode a bicycle there and asked if I could get a bag instead, she repacked all my food (quite a few boxes and containers) in multiple bags with cardboard between the layers so they would stay secure. Now for the medium parts: The wait was very long. My sister and I called just after 5 on a Thursday afternoon so we expected to wait a bit, but when the lady on the phone said 60-65 minutes my sister's jaw dropped. It's okay, we weren't in a hurry, but if you're absolutely famished keep that in mind. I got there around 6:10 to stand in a very cramped little waiting area with several other people sitting down for about ten minutes before someone came to hand out food and take payments. The fried rice that came with our food was just rice that was kind of brownish gray. It was good, but I thought it would have some vegetable pieces or something in there. I might've seen a chunk of scrambled egg but I'm not sure. Also, the price. It was over $40 for those three meals. The portions were large enough to have leftovers and I ate mine over the course of two days, but if you're just looking for cheap food this isn't the place to go. So it was a mixed bag. I have heard people rave about this place and I definitely get the appeal -- the taste and quality of the food was definitely there, but the price and wait times matched it. I'm glad I tried it and I'm keeping their menu, but next time I'm craving Chinese food I'll probably go somewhere cheaper and more convenient. read more

We read the great reviews and had to try it out. We LOVED the entrees- fresh, well seasoned, generously portioned. The only reason we aren't giving them a five was because we didn't love the soups (hot and sour and wonton). But everything else was on point. We ordered chicken and shrimp delight and it was full of perfectly cooked veggies and plenty is shrimp and chicken. The fried rice was light and tasty. We liked the moo shy pork. The food is awesome here. I had very low expectations as there are not many Asian restaurants in the area. Being Asian and from NY, I recently moved into the area and was craving chinese food. I gave China Express a shot and was hoping for just 1/2 decent food. It exceeded every expectation! I had the Szechuan Beef, Chicken Mei Fun and Pork Hunan Bean Curd. All 3 dishes were great. Worst than Panda Express. Chicken is a joke, it's like slivers of half cooked slimy meat. I don't know how to describe it. Egg rolls are deep fried and have mostly greasy breading on the outside and very little filling on the inside. Steamed dumpling taste like a gooey version of flour and water, almost a paste. We ordered three items: Ribs, Shrimp in a blanket, and their O O soup. The ribs were the best and only edible item. They, however, were overcooked and dry - but they were tasty. The shrimp we're done tempura style; incased in puff of pastry - looked good, but all it was was a big piece of dough with a small piece of shrimp inside. Average to slightly below average Chinese take-out food. Had a party of six ready for dinner only to find out that you could not eat in after 3:30 pm during the Summer. So had to take the food to go. Food taste was just average to me. Not a lot of flavor and kind of bland. Egg rolls, which were reviewed highly, seemed to be more coating and not enough filling. This is NOT Chinese as you know it. We ordered dinner last night for a quick easy meal after the beach. What we got was by far the worst and most bizarre Chinese food we have ever had in our lives. The chicken wings were not seasoned, or breaded, and simply looked baked. Actually the chicken wings we got looked like those ducks you see hanging in the windows in your local china town. Zero flavor. Not a grain of salt or pepper on the wings. The pork fried rice was sweet. Yes you read right. Sweet. Like they seasoned the rice and pork with sugar. Nothing else. I don't think who ever is working in the kitchen understands American Chinese food. This is not it. STAY AWAY. Please do not order here. read more
