We moved to Katy 3 years ago and just found out about this restaurant 3 months ago. This is not the typical americanized Chinese restaurant--although they sell the typical Kung Pao chicken. Their sesame chicken is very very good and crispy. I love this place, my whole family likes it. Their hung shou tofu and black pepper beef is very good too. The chicken creamy soup was very good, i had the hot and sour, it was good but didn't stand out from the crowd like the chicken creamy did, never saw this anywhere else. the fried spring rolls were really nice and had some size to them. My wife had the China Town entree and I tried the Chicken in garlic sauce, both were good. Prices were great, if we go back it'll be for the chicken creamy soup and the fried spring rolls. I was craving Chinese food so I decided to stop by my fav place for my lunch break. I get there and the door is locked w/ a sign that says "Come back @4:30pm." I checked their website to make sure they were open since I haven't been there in awhile and it shows they're open until from 11am-9pm. If they had updated the website I could've saved myself the trip and went somewhere that was actually open @3pm. What a waste of time and an example of lousy customer service. I love the food. And I've not had an even unpleasant visit. This broke it for me. Yelp indicated open for lunch until 4. Door sign indicated open all day. So I get there at 2. Waitress looks at her watch. I ask if there's a problem since I figured I have an hour. They turned off the air conditioning. So now I'm in a stuffy restaurant scarfing down an hour lunch in less than 30 min. Loved the food. Ok ambiance. Everything else is a no go. read more

We've tried some of the Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants in Katy Asian Town, but we always come back to China Cottage, since there's just something about their food that stands out among other Chinese restaurants/take-out. For the past 10 years or so, we always drove past China Cottage as we were driving on Mason Rd, but we never had the time to try their food, until earlier this year. I regret not trying their food sooner, as the Lo Mein is especially delicious and the beef is tender and cooked well. The food is always fresh and never fails to disappoint. Two young ladies have taken it upon themselves to be witchy about the owner of this restaurant. She is one of the most kind and sweet service people we know. IF you order wrong, it happens. The owner would work with you if you were pleasant and not racist - and did not blame it on the owner's language skills or attitude. I have seen one of the two complainers recently and their behavior was awful. The owner was NOT the one yelling. Quarantine signs were clearly marked and understandable. The food is good, quick, and the restaurant staff truly cares about delivering a good experience. Don't let those reviews deter you. I would also like to say that they are separating bagging food from cooking food from delivery/paying checks. The only delivery my parents would allow when I was growing up was pizza. I didn't realize that Chinese delivery was completely normal until I was 16. I always thought it was something that you only saw in movies, or only happened in other cities. There was absolutely no way to get Chinese delivered to your door in Katy... or so I thought until my very first job. I saw General Tso Chicken sitting out on a counter top in the break room and asked, "Where did this come from?" Fast forward to today and Chinese food is still a rare occurrence. Naturally, it isn't a surprise that China Cottage has been right around the corner this entire time and I never knew about it. Recently my little brother left the nest I fled from previously to come and stay with me and this Monday was his first day of school. I got wrapped up in work and practically crashed when I got home. I was too tired to cook and didn't feel like ordering pizza, so I brainstormed for a bit and remembered that Chinese restaurants deliver! When I found China Cottage's menu online, I was satisfied. I casually let it slip that I needed extra menus because I worked in a leasing office and put a welcome packet together for all my new residents with menus for local restaurants and business listings. I was excited when they threw in an order of potstickers on the house for advertising for them. I was impressed when they showed up at my door in less than 15 minutes. When I finally stuffed my face with delicious moo shu pork, cho mein, potstickers and crab rangoons, I was happy. Believe the hype. I'm giving China Cottage 5 stars! The best Chinese food I've ever had with out question. Typically I would make suggestions on a dish to try, however it makes little difference as to what you order. Anything and everything is as good as it gets. I ordered: Orange Beef, Garlic Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Szechuan Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup, and the Egg rolls. All of which deserve 5 stars. I live in Katy and have tried a lot of the Asian food in this town. The only Asian food I ever eat is general tsos chicken, hot and sour soup, and chicken/beef lo mein. The chicken is not too lean not too fat. The lo mein has a bit of grease on it but the flavor is amazing. I think they must use more garlic than other places which is a plus for me. The sauce for General tsos is perfect. I order the large hot and sour soup if I am sick or have a cold and it is a comfort food. China Cottage consistently dominates any other place I have tried in the surrounding area. It is easily my favorite and go-to Asian place for the dishes I have described. I don't consider myself some Asian food expert, but for these dishes china cottage has my vote. read more

Great portions for their lunch specials (soup and two barely filled cheese puffs). The chicken is all white meat. I ordered the garlic eggplant and it was good. They have your typical Chinese dishes so if that's what you're craving, I'd recommend coming here if you're in Katy. The other dishes look good - cooked fresh - not from some warmer. The service is not great - well at least during my lunch visit. I asked for some chile because there was no spice to my dish and it never came. My wife and I checked this place out after reading a few reviews here on Yelp. The food was pretty good, though I'm pretty sure this is *not* the best Chinese-American food in Katy. It comes pretty close. It was quiet inside and we didn't have to talk over each other, which was nice. They played soothing music, some oriental classical and just contemporary classical. Made for a relaxing experience. The prices were about what you would expect ($8 - $14 per plate) however one plate will feed two people, especially if you get an appetizer beforehand. The menu states that the full meal comes with rice, soup and eggroll for $2.50 extra, though we just opted out and it still came with the rice at no extra charge. We will be back, great little place. Passing back through Katy on the 10 I had to come have this place for dinner again. The place is nice, clean and they are friendly. My food got to my table pretty fast and its super tasty. Today was our first experience. We ordered a wide variety of food and smacks. Everything was excellently prepared and delivered. Our meal was "To-Go". When I got there I was politely greeted and my fold was freshly prepared and packaged very nicely for the drive home. We are pleased and glad to have found our local Chinese food restraunt. Husband and I decided on Chinese take-out for our evening meal tonight. We've lived in the Katy area just over 2 years and had yet to find a worthy Chinese take-out joint...until now. China Cottage is close, tasty and fairly priced. The Cottage Chicken (Orange Chicken) was really good. We ordered it due to the numerous mentions in other reviews. We also tried the Kung Pao Shrimp that was very tasty though a bit more spice wouldn't have hurt. Egg drop soup was simply egg drop soup. Nothing super special, but good none-the-less. Wonton soup was delicious. The only disappointment was the egg roll that was super greasy. The lady that took my to-go order on the phone was very nice but a little hard to understand. She did repeat my order back to be sure she had it correct and when my husband got home with the food it was 100% correct and nice and hot. Husband said the lady that helped him in the restaurant (same lady probably) was very nice. We will definitely keep China Cottage on our take-out list! read more

Nice little restaurant in Katy....very Asian. Lol The crab Rangoons are different as they add garlic and onions. It is a nice change from the average cream cheese. Eggrolls are INCREDIBLE. I always try to find good pork eggrolls and I always leave disappointed. They are my favorite eggrolls in Houston. The fried rice is also great. It is rated #3 in Houston for me. Now for the bad, I did not like the sweet and sour chicken. To much breading and the sauce had way to much sugar. I didn't get much else in the menu because everything else was deep fried. My wife and I have frequented this China Cottage several times. However last night I had a seafood dish. Two to three hours I became bloated and vomiting up the dinner. Fortunately after I emptied my stomach of the food I started to feel better. My wife had Orange Chicken and enjoyed her meal. I am certain it was bad seafood. Finally have found a Chinese food place in Houston that has great flavor and is consistent near us! We ordered the chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein, sesame chicken, chicken and broccoli, and an egg roll and it was ALL amazingly good! They aren't skimpy on the servings either. They will deliver but the first time we called they were so busy they said they could not deliver at the moment. We ended up driving over (7 minutes) to pick it up.
