Absolutely disgusting. I puked for hours after eating here. I think they use chicken skin as the meat in the stir fry. Nasty

Stop and Sea - Haddock Sandwich is a solid option with Handcut Fries

Okay... I'm still thinking about this meal like it personally changed my life a little bit…read more I had the haddock and WOW. The batter was that perfect golden crisp where every bite had that little crunch, but the fish itself was flaky and melt-in-your-mouth soft. You know when something is fried just right and not heavy or greasy at all? That. And the tartar sauce?? Not your average situation. It had this fresh, almost elevated flavor that made everything even better. I was literally dipping every last bite like I didn't trust the plate not to disappear. But honestly, what made it even more special was the people. Every single staff member was so kind and welcoming, and the chef actually came out to talk with us. I got to thank him personally for making me such an amazing gluten-free meal, which meant a lot because that's not always easy to find. Just one of those places where the food is incredible, but the experience somehow still steals the show. I will 1000% be back.

The owner takes time away from the kitchen to talk his guests like family. In a small town, you can tell the vibe is just that - they all know each other. We had a large group celebrating Mother's Day and between us I think we had 7 different menu items. The rib platter and grouper were among those and a "first come first serve" dish. You can tell they go fast and my husband got the last rib platter. They were juicy and full of that great smoke flavor you want to have. I had the fish and chips, an easy favorite it was cooked perfect with no fry oil leaking off the fish and the taste of cornmeal taking front and center. My teenagers had the grilled chicken sandwich and a cheeseburger. Both exceptional. In our family, we tend to share like it was all one table meal anyways so it was great to see not one dish we had wasn't worth the trip there. It's my Mother-In-Law's favorite local restaurant so to get in (no reservations needed), sit down and have a great meal was awesome. Now; they do have signs about not hanging around too long because of how busy they stay so if you are one that likes to digest their meal for awhile at the restaurant, you may not be able to depending on the crowd. Overall; great place and I am a sucker for those local, small business owner places.

4 to 5 stars for the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the service. 4 stars overall…read morebecause...FCB is overpriced. I don't usually factor cost into my ratings. After all, the prices are marked on the menu and nobody is forcing me to eat there...but, when it's in my face... 25 bucks for 2 links of Andoulli with a, fairly large, "shot glass" of coleslaw and another, smaller, shot glass of pickled onions, and, a tablespoon of brown mustard. I saw the price but I still ordered it. After dinner my wife was laughing her ass off: "That anduoilli could have been from Kroger, you know?" I'm sure she was right. If the sausage was homemade, I'll issue a retraction...and eat my hat. That said it tasted great. For 15 bucks, it would have been a good deal. 90 bucks for a dozen oysters and a few prawns, AND 5 tasty scallops. We saw the prices but still ordered it. The oysters and sauces were excellent, so were the scallops. But that ain't "market price." The beignets for dessert were more than ok. Almost, but not quite there. The atmosphere of the establishment, including the patio, is top notch. I like the look and the feel. The service was also great. The waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and took great care of us. Drinks: I've been drinking a lot less as of late (I like being cut more than I like being buzzed), but last night, I did have an excellent cocktail, or two. First, Kyle our waiter, was excellent with suggestions, perfect pace of service and politeness. He alone deserves 5 stars! Second, the assistant manager Emily, was very pleasant and welcoming when we arrived and checked back midway through our meal to see if everything was to our satisfaction... it was! Finally, the food was great and my steak was perfect, done just the way I wanted! Such attention to detail and the friendly, professional service made for a delightful evening out. Thank you!

They did absolutely nothing wrong, but in the end, our mealnsits above average. The first thing is the food. The portions are not huge, but that's okay at an expensive place. My ribeye was cooked exactly medium rare and was a nice cut of meat. However, it was drowning in butter and was just too salty for the meat to shine through. A good steak, but not great and maybe not even very good. My wife's scallops were very good and came with a great corn relish underneath. The sides must be ordered separately. We got the mashed potatoes and those were absolutely excellent-- probably also too much butter, but that just makes potatoes better. We got the feta appetizer and that was good, but very thick in our mouths. My wife had the leftovers for lunch and found it better as it's own meal The service was simply great. They knew we wouldn't finish the feta and had it boxed and bagged with extra toast before we were done with our entrees. Nice, attentive, detailed. We both looked at the cocktails and wines and saw nothing that interested us. We're not big drinkers, but were surprised. Usually an expensive place has something for us. The tables are very large. We were on a date, but we felt too far to have an intimate conversation. My wife skipped a few topics because it felt too public to talk about them. I do not disagree with paying a lot for exceptional food. I came in expecting to drop $200 on dinner. I wanted to wine and dine my lovely wife. But Benchmark was not exceptional. It was above average. And when I'm trying to decide between 3 and 4 stars, feeling as though it's not worth the price makes me drop to 3. It would have been 4 stars at $100 or maybe $150.

As someone who grew up in Bowling Green, it feels like…read moreit's been around forever, and while I know the ownership has changed over the years, the spirit is alive and well. The food is surprisingly dialed in, with high-quality ingredients and deep know-how in the kitchen. Surprising only because the atmosphere and service are a little rough around the edges. Things like chipped plates take a lot away from the otherwise expertly prepared food, and the urgent nature of the service detracts from a proper date night. That said, BG is a college town, and Main Street is the epicenter of drunkenness, so I imagine it would be difficult not to have things set up the way they are -- a place built for the pace of a college town, focused on high-quality but quick meals. And maybe I just need to come back in the summer, when the college kids are gone and the townies take over. But seriously, Sam B's is almost perfect. And somehow that actually does make it perfect, for what it is.

Menu has a lot of options can and vegetarian included. Has seafood which I love. Drinks, we started with a Long Island Iced Tea, it was good. Hubby had something like an Elizabeth Taylor IPA? Not sure if he got the name right but the aroma was lovely and it tasted lovely as well. As far as apps daughter ordered the Brussel sprouts with bacon. She and hubby tore it up. It did come really late, it was served with the meal which I will explain later. But, big hit. We all shared my cup of French onion soup. We all had different takes on it. I would deduct one star but clearly everyone has different likes regarding French onion soup. Don't get me wrong the taste was there, but it was very thick like a stew. The croutons were actually store type croutons so that with the thickness, the croutons were hard. Daughter loved that, I did not. Sooo potato tomato (pronunciation). So if it sounds like thick French onion soup with crusty croutons are your thing, you will love it. Entrees, daughter had the goat cheese raspberry salad, she was very happy with it, looked ver fresh. I had the seafood risotto, I'm always hesitant because you can really mess that up in so many ways. I have had many that had a fishy taste, this certainly did not. The kitchen was out of scallops so it was served with extra shrimp. It was excellent. One does pause before ordering seafood when surrounded by farm fields smack dab in Ohio, but they handled it nicely. Hubby had the salmon pesto risotto, while I did not love it, he did. The Brussel sprouts as I mentioned came out with dinner. The service I will say was slow. Our waiter, Seth, apologized and explained that they were not expecting so many people on a Sun night.I would have deducted a Star for the slow service but I felt that he made it right by apologizing, explaining, and did offer a free dessert, which we did not take. We will return and make reservations next time.

I was disappointed in the lack of European wines but found an Italian on the last bottle list. It was $150 but I was desperate. Unfortunately, our server didn't come back for 15 min to take our order and then when she finally delivered it, she broke the cork because she didn't screw down far enough. Alcohol is a big money maker yet we sat for 40 minutes before it was poured. The food was the main problem. Not only a super slow kitchen but it was then served refrigerator cold. Everything. Fish, steak, green beans, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, even the plate was frigid. So we sent it back and instead of preparing a new plate, they tried to just warm it and brought it back cold..again. This was a $75 plate of food. At this point, we were concerned about food safety and said to just forget it. Luckily we had bread with our wine but they never offered anything else other than not charging us for the food which we didn't even touch. This was two hours after our arrival so went home hungry after paying for the wine. To top it off, there was a loud, raging fight in the bar area that we heard across the restaurant so we waited until they had left, concerned about a physical altercation.
