I honestly didn't expect to like this as much as I did. My mom and I stopped in for lunch on a Friday. She got the orange chicken and I got the General Tso's chicken. It was pretty quiet for a lunch time, but the host was very friendly and helpful. No buffet, but that is a good thing. There's a buffet down the road. The chicken in both of our dishes was real chicken. Like good chicken that when you cut, you could see the grain of the meat. And it was a good sized portion. We were both very happy with our orders. My only wish is that the dishes could have been a little saucier. I don't know why this place has such a low score, but I feel like if you tried it in the past and didn't like it, you should try it again. read more

I guess all I can say is sorry. I shouldn't have to be, but I was very excited for a Chinese lunch with my mom. I was utterly disappointed with my food. I ordered Beef Chow Mein, their service was fast and I respected that. However, my noodles really did not hit the spot. I don't want to say that they were terrible, rather, not what chow Mein tastes like (in my opinion) at all. It was an odd taste, and I'm sorry to say I don't plan on returning. The staff was very kind however, and maybe it was just me, I suppose you can form you're own opinion if you choose to visit them. I hate giving a bad review, but I can't say I'm impressed. The vibe was a bit awkward, they aren't busy, but there was no music playing, so you'd hear each sniffle of the people in the restaurant. I would have been much more comfortable with some music to lighten the room a bit. They have live fish, and give out free candy to customers. Good God I've lived in Marshfield for 6 months and I've never been introduced to this place until today, it's fantastic. Best Chinese food I've ever had. Kung Pao chicken is good no matter what, but everywhere I've ever eaten it or similar dishes anywhere else always screws up one ingredient or another. Every single ingredient was perfectly cooked and flavored. Including the carrots and chicken, seriously, carrots were done right. That scares me, noone does that. If you've never eaten here, try it, price is right, staff is nice and attentive, the inside smells and looks amazing, and holy hell the peppers are as hot as I want them. Middle of the road. I didn't hit up the lunch buffet, I ordered off the lunch menu (Hunan beef). The portions for the lunch servings are HUGE!! Plus you get soup, an egg roll, and two wings for the same price as the buffet, but you can take left overs home. The veggies were cooked very well, they were crispy and juicy, and they were chopped to a proper eating size. It wasn't that spicy, but it just wasn't worth ranting and raving over either. The staff is extremely friendly . I asked for a recommendation and I received one immediately without hesitation. My beverage was well attended to which is important to me. The decor is appropriate inside and it is arranged that the foot traffic to the buffet doesn't annoy or disturb every table in the place. I DID notice that the buffet contains ice cream, which some people tell me is very important. Great service and large portions give this establishment a 3 out of 5 stars. The flavor of the food needs to improve or maybe I need to try a new dish? Either way, I would recommend stopping if you are hungry (but you won't fall in love with the food). read more

I try to be very fair when giving a review. But I had such a poor experience there is not one good thing to say. We placed a takeout order. Sweet & Sour Chicken, Beef & Brocolli, Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon, and Fried Rice. The sweet and sour chicken had a very odd breading, and it was sooo oily with a yucky flavor. Even the sweet and sour sauce was off. The Brocolli Beef didn't even taste like Chinese Food. There was no flavor and bland. The beef was like thin sliced, very dry, tough roast. Crab Rangoon, the inside was clumpy and thick. As we tried the different dishes my husband and I kept glancing at each other until we finally burst into laughter. Good place to eat, delicious food. They do however need to rotate the old food out of the buffet more often.

We have tried many Chinese restaurants in many places, and find none better than China Chef. Food off the menu is consistently good and fast. (The buffet is fine, but of course it isn't always as fresh.) The staff is pleasant and friendly. The atmosphere is sheltered and peaceful. Dishes we especially enjoy are the chicken in black bean sauce, the yi-shang chicken, the kung pao sun yang, the Mongolian beef (of course), the hot and sour soup, and the nice, fresh egg rolls. Portions are generous, and we appreciate that the restaurant lets you split an entree at no extra charge. We've eaten here for many years, and China Chef has been consistently excellent. read more

Typical small town Chinese fare. The food was a little bland but the service was great. Went for Sunday lunch. The buffet didn't look appealing so we ordered from the menu. We had shrimp fried rice, honey chicken and Szechuan beef. (The chicken was the best of the three dishes - not too sweet and just a little spicy). We order from them EVERY Tuesday they have gotten my order wrong more times than I can count so I finally called to get a credit because I had finally had enough of the mistakes. What horrible customer service!!!!! First they accused me of not even ordering from them. Then when they finally admitted that we had ordered from them they kept acting like the food I ordered was such a small order that it was ok that they forgot it!!! It was a $10.95 shrimp entree!!!! This place is absolutely horrible. The food was bland and slimy. I had lo mein with chicken and it was just a pile of overcooked slimy noodles mixed with undercooked onions and water they tried to pass as sauce. My boyfriend had the sweet and sour chicken and it was so soggy and chewy. It was drenched in sweet and sour sauce and random vegetables that tasted like nothing. I mean seriously how do you make pineapple taste like nothing? The crab ragoons we had were cold and the rice was dry. The only good thing I can say is our waitress, I don't know her name but she was blonde and had some arm tattoos, she was awesome. Seriously, she should find a different job. Not authentic, very poor quality. Pad Thai had tasteless noodles, shrimp that had not been deveined (disgusting), bitter cooked limes, and while peanuts (not diced). It cost $15. My co-workers had similar issues with their meals. For instance sweet and sour sauce that was consistency of jello and tasted like tomato paste? Weird and gross food. The fried rice is great. Love the egg rolls. The crab Rangoon is more of cream cheese filled wonton but they are still good. Sizzling beef is very yummy. I have not tried the buffet. First of all, the delivery took an hour and 20 minutes (say what?!) for that kind of delay I'm expecting something really delicious particularly since I'm starving by this point and a paper bag would taste good to me. Unfortunately the food nowhere even close to delivered on flavor; the sesame chicken was basically pieces of chicken with brown sauce no breading no sweet sesame flavor insight and the container wasn't even full! Not to mention there was nasty wilted iceberg lettuce at the bottom of the container basically just taking up space in tainting the rest of the food! Absolutely terrible food!! It all started by me having to wait almost 30 minutes longer than originally told (45 minutes).... Then when I tried calling to give feedback about the food which was dried out chicken, slimy lo mein, cold hard rice, they said a $10.00 credit is their policy. Like I'm going to come back, I wanted my money back. But no, the customer is limited to store credit. What a joke. The best part of the meal was the fortune cookie ..... My husband and I eat the lunch buffet at least twice a month and enjoy it, especially the hot and sour soup. The selection is adequate and well prepared from appetizers to entrees to salads, some desserts, and ice cream (I love the green tea one). The staff is friendly and attentive and the price is very reasonable. There is a $.50 senior discount. The owner is a kid's soccer coach and nice to chat with. I'm a truck driver and I've ordered food for delivery at this place many times, the portions were not generous at all, I've ordered some more today and it was by far the stingiest portions I've seen so far, the dishes were filled on the level of where the folding point of the carton is, some of the dishes were less than that level, and the amount white rice in the cartons were ridculously low, it's not even on the folding level of the carton, but an inch less, how can this be? Rice is cheap and this place won't even give their customers a fair amount of portions, I mean they could at least fill it up to the folding point of the carton. In the past each order I placed is at least $60, and today I odered $70 worth of food and tipped $5, and I've tipped generously in the past, the food were great, especially the ducks, but the lo mein is too greasy and had too much sauce, the potstickers were over burnt but overall the food is okay, the downside is their stinginess with the portion.
