What could be improved is when a PERSON enters the establishment respect and courtesy should be paramount. I walked into this place and the front end employee/owner or whatever, instead of greeting a patron with, "Hello, may I help you" he simply states yes as if I asked him a question. Astounding place with authentic Chinese cuisine and great Chinese paintings that make you want to write poetry. Lovely and kind Nancy ensures that each guest is treated exceptionally well no matter how many people you bring to the restaurant. Their veggie egg rolls are yummy, too. They have a variety of seafood and vegetarian items including their repertoire of Thai dishes and Mongolian style -Chinese hybrids. All the people are amicable and friendly, so if you're a quiet type, you can rest assured that they'll treat you with good manners and high energy with excellent standards. I almost didn't want to write a review so as to keep this secret to myself, but that would be unfair to them. Their restaurant choices in food and vegetables are for a variety of palettes: even if you don't generally order Chinese food, you'll take a delight in trying their freshly prepared items. You can even ask for low sodium if salt is not your thing, while spiciness level is up to the taster. It's the closest thing to those nice Texas and Lakehurst Asian bistros that we grew up with: where Dad would take us to new places as a family: Just Because any day was a day of food travel time. Best Chinese restaurant we've found in the greater Princeton area. Food is more flavorful and just seems fresher than others we've tried. Very nice servers and i even like the sometimes "crusty" proprietor. Been there three times now and enjoyed each one. After driving hurriedly to make the lunch special, we arrived at 2:55. My wife walking in the door to get the table was told by the greeter "lunch special over". My wife protested that it was 2:55 and he said by the time your husband gets in here it will be 3 o'clock. Needless to say we left. Now we have been customers of China Chef for about 25 years and have had stuff delivered and sat in the place for all that time but something happened recently within say a year when Laura the original owner suddenly vanished we asked for her and was told that she was staying home with her grandchildren. I asked did she sell the place to this very unpleasant, middle-aged gentleman if you can call him that to which he replied no "she still own place" besides this most recent and last experience I will ever have there. The food is changed. It is not as tasty and the prices have gone up like everything else I guess through the roof one thing that has not changed is the fact that a delivered order comes in almost less time that it takes to drive from the restaurant to our house so as I have asked them before and never have gotten a straight answer is this food waiting around, heat it up and sent out and the answer can only be yes. That said: China chef was always very good and is not any longer. That's not to say you can't get a good meal because you can but it's rather unpleasant with this man that proclaimed that Laura is still the owner. I don't think so if she cared about her business. If she cared about her business and I know that she does, she wouldn't allow this individual to be telling a great customer at 2:55 lunch special over when clearly it was not in 2:55 and even if it was five after three, why tree a good customer like that well here's the answer The The Man is shall we say not very smart. I have been exploring all Chinese restaurants in the area comparing and contrasting for quality and customer service. China Chef is more expensive than most, but their food quality does not justify their premium pricing. However, this restaurant has the rudest, most unpleasant welcome of all and the older Chinese man at the counter should never be allowed to greet customers as he is rude and unpleasant. Most likely a family member, should rather be in the kitchen packing orders. Unfortunately, I will not return. I've eaten here multiple times, both dine-in and carry out and overall I've had good experiences hence it's my usual Chinese. Stuff that's always been good for me: SpringRolls, Ribs, Soups, Sesame Chicken, all the Fried Rices and Lo Meins, Hunan Beef and also the Kung Pan chicken. Our family amd friends went there for dinner. The family friends are Asian and they recommend the food. We had a great time amd the owner is very nice and accommodating. We ordered a variety of family style dishes amd I ordered the duck do myself. They do not sell the duck as much but they prepared it for me nicely, and it was ok with 3.5 or 4 star rating for the duck alone. The price is also acceptable. Lunch Specials Review - China Chef in the Manor Center off Federal City Road, is surprisingly attractive. Large, clean, well furnished, it is not what I expected from most Chinese houses in the region. Although they do a big takeout trade, they are prepared for and desire customers who prefer to eat there. Time and attention to detail is evident. While the lunch specials menu is pretty much state of the art, the presentation is way beyond normal. Real plates and metal flatware are used for even the discounted midday meal. Very nice touch compared to most other places that serve styrofoam and plastic to all. They even offer hot tea without being asked. Way better than a tea bag or soda can. So, I was not bothered when the prices were a buck or two more those joints. My General's Chicken was plentiful with good chili content and the ubiquitous broccoli. The coating may have been thicker than I like in places, but did not cause much distraction. The fried rice was very good; fresh tasting and loaded with chunky BBQ pork, egg and veggies. The hot & sour soup was also superior to the competition, with lots of tofu and fresh mushrooms. The adage that you get what you pay for certainly applies to lunch at China Chef. read more

The food was prepared according to my request, some woman called me from the restaurant and asked me how I was going to give a tip, and when the driver arrived he'd forgotten the sauce I requested. When I called to get the sauce delivered, that same woman argued with me that I'd never requested the sauce and gave me attitude the entire time! And you want a tip? This place is the real deal - actual bits of egg and onion. Not those frozen peas and carrots and that you get from some places that are looking to cut corners. This is probably the the most inauthentic Chinese food I've had. Every dish was too salty and for some reason had an addition of green peppers in it. If you're looking for eating Chinese takeout as a sit down place, then this place is for you but it was really not good otherwise. I think the food is tailored for Americans because the dishes are very far from what is Chinese or even tasty. I would say that even as a Chinese takeout place, it's very subpar. This place is in a very non descript strip mall, but their dining room and food is anything but. I have ordered take out from this place many times and each time the food is piping hot, well priced and most of all Delicious!!! I ordered a small order, with pints of lo mein and vegetable fried rice and General Tso's chicken extra spicy. And boy was it spicy in the best of ways. The szechuan peppers that were part of of the sweet sauce were mixed with a crushed pepper and hot oil mix. I had ordered the generals chicken it was over cooked to the point I couldn't even chew it. The egg roll was burnt beyond edibility. The fried rice was the only good part of the meal that was acceptable. Fast forward to today, listen everyone has a bad day, maybe the chef feel asleep while cooking for me the last time. I was feeling under the weather a little wanton soup would make me feel better. I placed my complicated order of a large wonton soup and sat to wait. A couple of customers came in and picked up orders while I was waiting. 15 minutes passed they must have been working hard on the soup. A new worker asked if I placed an order I excitedly told him I did. After a brief discussion in Chinese (this soup is going to be epic) my original server asked if I ordered. I said yes I did, she asked what it was. My order was never placed! I just left, this place is pure crap with a total lack of attention to detail and customer service. Since the last time I was here for takeout, which was a couple years ago, this local Chinese restaurant has gone from just OK to just awful. I brought home dinner for my family of four the other night, and it was simply inedible. The won ton soup tasted like dirty dishwasher must, with no flavor or seasoning whatsoever, and wontons that disintegrated and turned to mush as soon as they hit the spoon or your mouth. Mealy and disgusting. The sesame chicken was equally nasty, overcooked and dripping with a sweet sauce straight from a jar... or from three days ago. I agree with other reviews that some of the sauces tend to be a bit too sweet, such as the General Tso's and Orange flavored beef. However, you cannot go wrong with traditional favs like Lo Mein, Fried Ricd, and Egg Foo Young. Although the Thai cuisine is not authentic, certain dishes like Thai curry chicken are still quite yummy, and the Black Pepper Udon is a must try! The lunch specials are typically what I get when lunching with my team from work. The service has always been excellent but the the food has not has been on point as previous years. For example the egg roles less hot and crispy, the generals chicken a recent disappointment from previous years. Recently spot on items were pork dumplings and beef chow fun. Soup is still hot and very good. They have large tables and booths to accommodate larger parties. On the table they serve the wide crispy noodles with a good duck sauce.
