The food was ready in 20 minutes and was piping hot but a super small portion and rice came to $13. Half of the pieces in my dish don't even have chicken in them!! Fortune Garden is a shoebox Chinese American takeout spot on Rt. 206, Lawrenceville, NJ. It has all the usual suspects on their menu, with the ubiquitous broccoli and fried rice in every dish they put in a brown bag. If you're in the area and looking for a quick lunch to eat at your desk, this kitchen is as good as any, and better than some. I called ahead for Pork Egg Foo Young and Wonton Soup, and drove up from Trenton in less than 10 minutes. Yes. Fried Rice was plentiful under the two pancakes. While the Wonton was a lesson in future avoidance due to thick dough and questionable meat filling, the Egg Foo Young was actually decent. It was not overly oily, and had plenty of veggies and roast pork strips within. Their brown sauce was lighter than many (a good thing), and did not separate as it cooled. But for the weak effort on the soup, the EFY deserved a higher score. Maybe management will read this and get to work improving those wontons and flavoring up the consumme. read more

Solid takeout spot for classic Chinese American food.  My family has been coming here for years and the food is consistently tasty at this family run place.  Our go-to orders are beef & broccoli and chicken & mushrooms lunch specials with hot and sour soup. Food is always piping hot and ready at the pick up time given by the lady answering the phone who efficiently takes your order.  She wears a mask and gloves, and there is a partition set up between the customer and the register. There is ample free parking right in front of the restaurant with easy access to Route 206.  There's a couple chairs and a table, if you want to eat in, but almost everyone does take out. I am very surprised by all the negative comments for Fortune Garden. We order from here all the time and have never had a problem. The food is always delicious and the woman who works at the counter is so nice. At one point, she knew my brother by name because we went so much. Also, we are always told 15-20 minutes for food and this is usually not incorrect. The only downside to this restaurant is that it is more of a take-out window. I am not a huge fan of Chinese food and have a very small palate but when I have a taste for it, I'm glad I found this place. Beyond the food though the service here is awesome. This is not a eat in spot, it's very small but extremely clean and comfy, they do have a two seater table but I've only even seen staff sitting in eating once. The are in a mini flat area with parking out front. They always have your food ready, lady who takes orders and works the register is pleasant usually knows which order is mine when I walk in. Their delivery is fast and I love the way they pack your food the containers have a seperated slot for the meat and the rice. The food is delicious, their sesame chicken is always fresh as is the chicken fried rice. I wasn't crazy about their soup, I've tried both the hot and sour (which was too hot for my stomach) and their egg drop (which was bland) so last time I opted for the egg roll which surprisingly generous on the meat and not at all greasy. So for my lunch special which has a choice of soup, egg roll or soda, I'll stick with the egg roll, it runs about 6-7 depending on your selection. I also had their shrimp lomein mini shrimp but they didn't skimp on it the noodles were slightly over done but it was still delicious. I will be a frequent patron. read more
