    China Chef

China Chef on Saint James Avenue in Goose Creek is a great place to go for delicious and fresh Chinese food and more. I really like the menu and everything that they have available here. I have enjoyed all of the orders that I have made from here.

Bao Bao tray, pork fried rice, fried crab, sweet & sour pork, General Tso chicken
    Perfect A.

The China Chef by the old BiLo (now Food Lion) used to be my go-to for takeout since they were so convenient. The food was fine but I haven't ordered in a long time (2019?). I reaaallly wanted Chinese for my bday so I got all my old faves delivered: the Bao Bao tray, cheese Rangoon, sweet/sour pork, and pork fried rice. Hubby got General Tso chicken. I'm very happy to say that not only was the food quick to arrive and hot, it still tasted good. The shrimp toast was a little burnt but still tasty. The beef stick had a yummy curry-like seasoning in it that I liked. The fried crab was really good but The pork fried rice was especially so- whatever they did to it tonight was *chef kiss. Everything else was decent. I'll definitely keep this local biz on my list for the next time I'm craving yummy Chinese!

a large staple in my wife's map tofu

I called China Chef last night to inform them that there was a large staple in my wife's food. I was told that the manager would call me back as soon as possible. 40 minutes later, without receiving a phone call, I called back and talked to manager Linda. I told her that I would just like a refund on the mapo tofu. She told me I *had to bring the food back* in order to get a refund. I offered to send the picture attached here, but that wasn't good enough. Again, this was 40 minutes after I called them. My wife had picked around THE STAPLE before throwing it away. This was completely unacceptable and frankly disgusting. We have ordered from this location before, and customer loyalty was never even considered. We will not be dining here again. ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS REFUND 1 ITEM.

The food was "ok" the prices were crazily outrageous. Sesame Chicken combo and Broccoli Chicken combo was $36. I will not be returning.

Many local Filipinos I know recommend this restaurant as having the best filipino food in the Charleston area.... and I can vouch for that! In addition to lechon kawali and kare kare, we also had lumpia, chicken adobo and pancit. All were delicious! Service was excellent and our host was very very friendly. I don't drink tea so I asked if I could exchange it for something else which they replied with "there will be a charge." Why are you forcing me to drink tea? There was not a single person in the restaurant at lunch, the older gentlemen who I assume is one of the owners was sitting at one of the tables with his laptop watching tennis. When I walked in he just said can I help you? He didn't offer a menu or anything. There isn't a menu posted anywhere so I had to ask for one and he hands me this piece of paper in a folder. Absolutely ridiculous do not eat here. I left hungry and furious with $20 less in my pocket. Had to go buy lunch somewhere else. Went to Ocean Island across the street! They have the same lunch special for $8.99 including a can soda!!! Wish I had went there first.

I dined in, but it's clear that this is primarily a takeout spot. There was some clutter at the rear of the dining area, and my party was the only one dining in the entire time we were inside. Several people came in to grab takeout orders, though. Overall, this feels like a great local spot for flavorful and fresh Chinese food, but if you choose to dine in, the vibe might be slightly off. Perhaps some music in the dining area would help temper the atmosphere. Even still, I would come back again.

It was absolutely the worst honey chicken wings I have ever had. The honey chicken wings were undercooked, soggy and swimming in an unrecognizable sauce. The regular chicken wings were bland and greasy. I had placed the order via phone. I was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. It took me 20 minutes to arrive at the restaurant. My coworker went in to pay and retrieve the order. Only to be told the order wasn't ready, it will be a few more minutes. Ten minutes later, the order was ready, however undercooked. My co-worker expressed that the inside of the establishment is out of date and needs improvement. Save your money or spend it elsewhere for a better experience.

The whole place feels quaint and local, yet refined and classy. First off I love that it's a full service bar and eating at the bar is no problem. Second I absolutely love they sell pitchers of beer. Not many taps, but still pitchers. And it's mostly local beer. I was with my husband and we wanted to try several things and took recs from the bartender who was awesome. We ordered the pork dumplings, the scallion pancake and the spicy sichuan hot karaage rice bowl. And we made it a combo with miso soup and an egg roll for $4. The pork dumplings were SO good. I could eat a meal of those alone. They were dense and flavorful and the dipping sauce was slightly spicy. The scallion pancake was a surprise delight. It was crispy and not too greasy again with a delicious dipping sauce. The miso soup...chefs kiss. It looked like ordinary miso soup but there was something extra that we really loved!! And the egg roll was big and juicy and fried and wonderful. It's a veggie egg roll but don't let that fool you. So much flavor and again the sweet chili dipping sauce left us drooling. Most of those sauces are too sweet but this was the perfect blend and the perfect spice level. The rice bowl was full of flavor!! The spice on this is quite a lot so make sure you can handle heat if you order the "hot" version. But again lots of flavor not just hot. Thank god we didn't order anymore food because this was plenty for the two of us to leave full and honestly we could've had leftovers. We will 1000% be visiting again and fully understand the hype around this phenomenal restaurant!!

All the dishes we ordered, from the miso soup and pierogis with salsa macha, to the karaage-don and peanut noodles, were savory and satisfying to eat. The texture and appearance of the chicken for the karaage-don bore more of a resemblance to General Tso's chicken with its battered and crunchy exterior, and it didn't quite have the tender and juicy interior I was hoping for, but I enjoyed the lemon mayo pairing which resulted in a flavorful finish. The Peanut Noodles reminded me of certain iterations of Dan Dan Noodles and certainly tasted fine on its own, but adding the thick chunks of bacon/pork belly was essential in elevating this dish to the next level. The restaurant was very lively on a Thursday afternoon, and the staff very warm and inviting throughout our meal. My drink hit the mark for me, and I found the cocktail menu fun and creative. In fact, I would say "fun and creative" summed up our overall experience at Jackrabbit Filly. Just ask my daughter, who started dancing the entire lunch the moment she saw the disco lights in the bathrooms.
