The servers are good but other than that, this place has been worse and worse the last few times I've gone. It used to be really good for the price, but not anymore. The sushi rolls don't look as appetizing anymore and don't seem too fresh. The crab Rangoon, which used to be my favorite, look dried out and the flavor is bland. The chicken wings are not crispy, but mushy. Last night I went and it was about a half hour till closing. I know not to expect buffets to be fresh close to closing, but they even turned down the temp on the Mongolian grill early. So, when my food was put on the grill, it didn't sizzle like it normally does and the sauces I put didn't really cook and reduce. I asked the cook if he could keep my food on a little longer because I didn't feel it was safe to eat and he did. I asked the manager if the grill's temp was lowered and he said yes, and that they do lower the temp close to closing. Even though they said we could keep eating past nine, they cleared the Mongolian grill food out about 5-10 minutes prior, to closing so there was only old buffet food left. I know they wanted to get home, but they shouldn't sacrifice safety. We won't be back. read more

2.5 stars. While this restaurant is acceptable in terms of cleanliness and food quality, it just barely makes it. Having been here twice and now having tried one other nearby buffet, I likely will stick with the place down the road. The slight difference in price (here dinner is about 1$ cheaper) really is not worth the savings. Also, maybe the biggest issue for us was the heavy use of salt in many dishes (get ready to fill up on drinks). This is a common problem at many buffets and far exceeds the usual salt content in many regular restaurants; this alone is a reason not to return. Still, the food selection is decent (the Mongolian/stir fry grill is a good option if you enjoy that) and service is friendly but unless you simply want to be full, you may find other buffet restaurants more appealing. read more

The food here is ok but the shrimp was WAY over cooked and tasted horrible! Other then that the bars were stocked up nicely and the food seemed hot and fresh! The staff was nice enough, but I did see one staff member (female) to into the bathroom stall with a friend of hers.... and while I tried to contact the restaurant directly I got a failure notice so the e-mail for their site is invalid. Guess they really don't care what people think or if they have any problems. read more

Granted this is a Chinese buffet, where dishes are not handmade to your delicate pallette and served to you with a smile... But if you want an outstanding buffet, this is as good as it gets. And I've tried more than I can count. They don't have a bad item on their line that I'm aware of (I tend to avoid green peppers, but I'm sure those dishes are tasty as well). The Mongolian Grill, while not up to Hu Hot standards, is still very good. If you don't go to the forementioned restaurant, this is as good of a grill as you're going to find in Omaha. And as others have mentioned, the time of day one eats here doesn't matter. It's always very good. I eat here (at the West Dodge location...haven't tried West Maple) about once a month. And my relatives always want to eat here when they come to town. One of my brothers, who lives in Kansas City, claims that he doesn't have a local buffet that's anywhere near this good. So if you live in or are visiting Omaha, you should definately try China Buffet. The local eateries are notoriously competitive and this restaurant is incredibly busy on weekend evenings. So evidently I wouldn't be the only one recommending it. read more

I love this buffet. The variety of offerings is amazing! Tuesday nights are easy to get in, not overly crowded like the weekends. If you can't find a dish you like...there is something wrong with you. I always leave wishing I had room to try something else. It is going to be a while getting through all they offer. I have tried many Chinese Buffets over the last 10 years. As I have 6 kids we tend to be a mainstay at Buffets for the good price. Tues is Kids 10 and under eat free with paid adult. Every "NEW" city we visit we try a different Chinese Buffet...and nothing, I mean nothing is close (OK 1 in KC is good).. I would like to say for my first time being at China buffet and Mongolian grill it was horrible i dined at your restaurant. For a birthday dinner and i was very disappointed. The customer. Service was good . The food was distasteful. And very unsatisfying. I wanted to not pay for the food which was a gift from a relative. I for one will never return to this place. On top of all that there was dirty dishes that other customers. had piled up on the side we had to pick through to find a clean one because each dish had a food particles on them. And the sauces was not replenish. There was a sticky residue on the table and chairs we was sitting at . It was just horrible. The advertisement on T.V is not what your getting. It's a buffet so set your standards. Of course if you go at off times, the food will sit and be mediocre. But I've always gone during dinner and I have to say it is one of the best buffets. I probably go 6 times a year and it has never disappointed. The cost is very low considering the food choices and amount. The desserts section is lacking a bit. read more

My favorite buffet, especially on the weekends when they have crab legs out. I love their sushi and the mongolian grill. A little pricey, but the food is really good. Last time we were in the place was packed. My dad always said you can tell how good a place is by how full the parking lot is, and these guys are packed. Restrooms are clean. I think this place is an excellent value, but if it were not a buffet, I would not think it was much better than any typical, generic, strip mall Chinese-American restaurant. Compared to such restaurants, I would give the food of China Buffet a 4.25, or maybe even a 4.5 out of 5. Compared to upper level Chinese restaurants that are considerably more expensive, I would give it a 2 out of 5. As is often the case, you get what you pay for. Being a buffet, one gets as much food as they want, and the cost is very affordable. Though, there is a reason why it is so affordable, and that is because the quality of the ingredients is sub par, and, for example, there is a lot of breading on their honey chicken. Breading fills you up, but it is also very cheap. The taste of the food is generally decent, *relative* to the price and quantity of food one gets for their money. If you are mainly looking to stuff yourself with edible food, for a relatively cheap price, and generally like cheap, typical Americanized Chinese food, this is the place for you! The variety of options is pretty good. If you have a sensitive, educated, or even sophisticated palate, and are looking for high quality Chinese food, and price is not of the greatest concern, this place is definitely to be avoided. But then, I would say that the vast majority of Chinese restaurants, in America, should be avoided by the same group of people. It is my experience that most people, in most cities, are not too sophisticated or picky when it comes to Chinese food, so this place would probably be considered to have pretty decent food, by the typical person who finds strip mall quality Chinese food to be quite acceptable, and even enjoyable. It's a great bang for the buck, but, it's not very good food, if one is a very discerning diner. I am ultimately giving it 3 out of 5, mostly for its value. If I was rating it solely on value, I would give it a 4.5, If this place was not a buffet, and charged typical prices for such quality, I would give it a 2, in comparison to Chinese food that really is of excellent quality, though not nearly as economical. If the only thing I was rating it on was the quality of the food, without any concession for, or nod to its value, I would give it a 1 out of 5, just like I would give to 90+% of the strip mall Chinese restaurants in this country. I am all for the employment of more people -- GOD knows this world needs more jobs --, but, I am not too keen on the fact that each table *automatically* has a server. I would much prefer to at least have the *option* of simply getting a soda or water from a fountain, instead of being in a position where I "have to" (have to, if I don't want to be an uncouth, inconsiderate jerk, that is) tip someone who is merely bringing me water. This adds at least another $150 to my bill, and again, the whole reason I went here was to get a lot of food for my money. Because I invariably spend more money to tip the person who simply serves me water, one glass at a time, I frequent China Buffet muuuuuuch less often than I otherwise would. It's just not nearly as great a value when I add that extra $2 to my total cost. Aside from an owner who is altruistic and wanting to help the community by providing more jobs, I really don't understand why any buffet restaurant such as this would have servers who's pay was presumably almost solely based on tips. Well, I suppose if they hardly have .pay the servers a dime, then it's not a big deal, to them. But I do have to wonder how many other people frequent this restaurant, because it is not nearly as great a value once the cost of the tip is factored in. I repeat, the food is cheap, and it's not great quality. I think it's very much worth the $7 lunch price, but I don't think it's worth $9. At $9, I would prefer to order carryout for around the same price, from a different Chinese restaurant that has greater quality food. From the looks of things, it would appear that most people go here almost entirely for the value. But then, I really wonder how many people incur an additional cost of $1.50, or more, as my hunch is that many, or most do not tip, here, at all. It sure would be nice to know if the servers are paid at least minimum wage, as opposed to the appalling $2.13 an hour the typical server receives, and is therefore almost completely reliant on tips. read more

This was the WORST experience!! The shrimp were not deveined they were full of poop! You have to order the crab legs now and the waiter set the plate down with the bowl of hot butter on the edge of the plate and it quickly fell off the plate into a friends lap just covering her with hot butter!! The place was not very busy there was waiters and waitresses just standing around, when I went to wash my hands there are four stalls in the bathroom and you could only use one stall because the others were plastered with fecal matter. I told one of the 6 people standing at the front desk area and they sent a waitress in... my friend was in cleaning up the baby when the waitress came in all she did was sweep she never cleaned the toilets. It is a very disgusting place and I'm reporting them to the health board!!! I feel extremely sick to my stomach now. read more

Not a safe place. We were sat next to a couple blaring music from a phone, so we asked for a different table. We were then sat 4 tables away, with in sight of the first table. Man at the loud table began glaring at me and my wife. I told the waiter he was making us uncomfortable and motioned to the other table. The waiter left and the man jumped up like he wanted to fight. terrible.......I took my ten year old daughter for lunch on Saturday afternoon. The first problem was chicken wings were empty and never refilled the whole time there. Second problem we never got drink refills until almost done eating, even then I had to ask for them. Biggest problem was my daughter took one crableg and was charged almost double what my price was. ask the waiter why and he said she ate crablegs so have to pay weekend dinner price, Why was the crab legs out on buffet if you are not supposed to them? For a buffet it is a step above others. I was disappointed because the breaded shrimp was ice cold, not even a little warm. The general tsao's chicken was very good as were other things on the chinese table. If you want a big salad I would say they have the largest salad bar I've ever seen. This is my 2nd time at this location. The place was packed at 5:10 so go early. My dining companion and I both found a long black hair in our lo mein. Pretty much ended the meal for us. Luckily I actually check my bank account and noticed they overcharged me.. sorry but I didn't leave the shitty waitress a $15+ tip for refilling my water that she didn't even get to me until 10 minutes into my meal!!!... My wife and I have eaten there several times and while it is not the best we've had we do continue to eat there. That is until today. During lunch my wife found a small piece of gravel in her fried rice. The problem is she found it when she bit down on it and we think she may have cracked a tooth. When we told them what happened they tried to explain how things like that sometimes find their way into rice. They did not ask if she was ok or apologize, they gave us $3.00 off the bill. They can barely communicate in English and next time your are there look around... Most of the clientele can't either. We will not return and will warn others because of how we were treated when things go wrong. read more

I'm SO upset with China Buffet now. They have had Chinese Dragon Dancers on Chinese New Year for years. It is a family tradition for us to go and we usually get a group of about 12-15 friends to go with us. The kids love it. But not this year. Chinese New Year's is Tues. Feb. 8. First of all, they didn't know until a day or so ago what time they were even going to have the dancers. But best of all, they've decided to have them on Saturday, not Tuesday. That's like celebrating New Year's on Dec. 28th. But they didn't even tell us that until today. Now people have to work of have other plans, so our annual celebration is cancelled. So now we're going to be something else this year. So sad that they couldn't be more organized and celebrate on the actual holiday. read more
