First off, I will divulge that I love the China Buffet on 144th and Maple. This location is closer to our house, but I think it's just one notch below the one further west. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese buffets myself, usually, but if they are great ones, I will make an exception. This one is good, not great - but I will definitely return. It's a little more crowded from my experience than the one on 144th, but the staff is great and is wonderful about clearing plates and keeping the tables clean. I usually grab a tasting portion (to not waste food) of almost all the main dishes, like Beef Broccoli, Sesame Chicken, General Tso Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Honey Chicken, and more. The chicken dishes were inconsistent. The teriyaki chicken was dry but flavorful, while the sesame and honey chicken were pretty similar and sweet. The broccoli chicken was my favorite, due to its white meat and rich gravy. Both beef dishes were more flavorful than the chicken options. I recommend adding Mongolian beef sauce to your fried rice. One thing I tried here that I hadn't done at the 144th location was the Mongolian grill. I tried to re-create my Hu Hot dish, and got it pretty close. I definitely recommend trying the Mongolian grill out to make your own dish that you'll definitely like (or blame yourself for picking bad ingredients for the mix LOL) The desserts were hit or miss, but the soft serve ice cream and Mocha mousse coffee cake were excellent. Overall, this China Buffet is one notch below its Western brethren, but it's still a solid choice and I will return since it's a lot closer to my house. read more

So we must have gone on a really good day! I took my nephew out to lunch and he wanted Sushi but nothing "RAW" lol just like ME! ...Mongolian grill ...chicken...rice and noodles ...I wanted soup and salad...ice cream he ate to his hearts desire while we sat in a comfy booth with great service...the food was replenished several times while we were there (and no, we weren't there for hours!) The Mongolian bar food selection was pretty good. I have definitely seen better. The food that was already cooked and in the buffet was not very good. I believe this was the very last Chinese buffet I had not visited in the area. Parkimg is ample due to the strip mall having several stores. The setup is similar to others who offer sushi and hibachi. The variety of hot dishes is decent, and the service to remove plates is good. The quality of taste and the amount are good overall. China Buffett This was an impulse stop, looking for lunch and in the neighborhood. We actually pulled into another place to eat, but it was closed. We were at the back end of lunch. The place was not really cleaned up, but it was obvious they had been busy and not caught up. The review is based on the food. It was below the average we've had in other Chinese buffet restaurants. Everything was 'just a little' under average. The meat, the other ingredients. It wasn't a cheap place so know you will be receiving middle-range prices and in my opinion below average food. The wait staff at the China Buffet is friendly and attentive. But that's where the good news ends. The Chinese food on the buffet is...well, terrible. My litmus test for any Chinese place is the broccoli chicken. It's a pretty easy dish to get right. The broccoli chicken here had the flavor of salty dirt with zero hint of oyster sauce. Otherwise, the chicken-on-a-stick was literally burnt, the pepper shrimp didn't taste like shrimp, same for the fried shrimp, which was mostly batter (had to bite one open to check if it contained shrimp), the General Tso's tasted like wet breaded chicken, and the fried doughnuts looked so dry and devoid of sugar I didn't even try one. I didn't try the Mongolian grill, but if you're looking for a bunch of good Chinese food, you're better off elsewhere. Did I mention it's $20 per person, even on a Tuesday night? read more

Staff was very nice however most of the staff were always on their phones on the dining room, the food was not bad at all however I believe there is way better in Omaha. You'll be expecting to pay at least 20$ per person which I think is not a very good deal considering the quality of the food. The egg drop soup reminded me of the smell of a public swimming pool. Great location, I remember when they were at around 120th and Dodge ish before the Menard's remodel. Usually its a toss up for great Mongolian Grill between Huhot and China Buffet. The advantage to China Buffet is that besides a great selection of items and sauces, as a friend once said, "you don't have to pay extra for appetizers, etc" Sushi is usually out on the line, and I have always loved seaweed salad. Unlike some other grills where it's "how many ways can we present a chicken dish" They have a great selection including Mongolian beef and my ever favorite Chow mei fun. I was going to give this place a 4 star review, because the food is pretty good, there's plenty of options, and the service is passable. Unfortunately, after drinking almost an entire pot of tea, I had to visit the restroom prior to leaving. I don't know about everyone else, but restrooms can make or break my impression of a place. These restrooms are better suited for a kindergarten than a restaurant. The stalls are super cramped, the toilet seat was maybe half the normal size, the flush lever was broken, the sink was leaking so the floor was wet, and it clearly hadn't been cleaned in a while as the trash was full and there were paper towels everywhere. Today I had lunch alone. At a buffet. Talk about a surreal experience... and while I wasn't the only one sitting alone reading for some reason it seemed weirder at a buffet than just eating alone and reading at a restaurant. Anyway... on the the food. Seemed necessary to sample a little bit of everything so I tried no less than probably 30 items - mind you, in small proportion. But believe the hype here because it was all good. And if you're not into buffet dining, then obviously why would you consider coming here to begin with... So if you're on board for grubbing, they have four lines with salad bar/dessert, Mongolian grill, entrees and appetizers galore. Turnover was good on items, everything was fresh and hot, staff were friendly, the place was very clean and my solo buffet lunch was less than $8 (before tip). What's in a name? In this case, China Buffet is a Chinese buffet, albeit one that serves American-Chinese fare. And that is perfectly fine. The food is generally always hot and fresh, particularly when it is busy. This is probably the cleanest of the Big 4 (my own designation of the dedicated buffet Chinese restaurants; China Buffet (and its chains), Grand China Buffet, A+ Mongolian and Chinese Buffet, and Hong Hing). It has a decent variety of food, and includes OK sushi (good enough for my 5 year old that really only eats sushi rolls) and a Mongolian grill. 1. Gives free buffets on you birthday with proof of ID which is pretty cool. 2. A great place if you have discipline and want to eat healthy. I try but fail miserably every time! However, their Mongolian grill offers a lot of meats and veggies so you can customize your dish if you want to eat healthy...or not so much. 3. They keep the buffet well stocked. I've never went up to the buffet and not gotten something that I wanted. Last note is taste. I'd say their food is average. It's what you would expect on a buffet. THE BEST buffet I've ever been to. EVER. Former collegiate linebacker, and I can put it away. Buffets were, and occasionally still are, my forte. This place is the best. Food is exceptional. Service is excellent, though I raised an eyebrow when my Arnold Palmer came in two separate glasses (one filled with lemonade, the other with iced tea). That was puzzling, but nothing that couldn't be overcome. To the buffet, Batman! We attacked it with vigor. Though I was full, I could not help but to get another plate. Everything is good. All of it. Of note: Beef and broccoli. The broccoli was a beautiful bright green color, and still had a great snap to it, unlike some places that have soggy, off-colored broccoli. Everything had a very distinct, integrated flavor, like it was cooked separately, then blended together. Mongolian beef: Just awesome. I can go on, and on, but I won't. I'd have to say that I really enjoyed this place. Wednesday doesn't seem like a very busy night but the food on the buffet was refreshed often! Everything that I tasted had great flavor and great presentation. I really enjoyed seeing that they also had sushi at the beginning next to the salad station. I've only visited this location once before but don't remember seeing sushi! That's exciting. Different assorted sushi rolls. Wasabi, ginger to accommodate. This is a review of a weekday lunch. I ended up paying around 10 dollars including tip. Personally, I think this is the best Chinese buffet in West Omaha when factoring in price, options, and flavor (though this is still a buffet). Like the other buffets in the area, it has a wide selection of fried foods, rice entrees, a Mongolian grill, and a dessert section. I think this has the best Mongolian grill with the most options (most protein/seafood and also an egg!). It also gives you a guide on how to create the best sauce. On the other hand, I was kind of disappointed by the soft serve ice cream (others have a wide selection of scoop your own ice cream). The guy stationed there tonight was extremely accommodating, but who knows if he'll be on duty any given visit. I can't sing his praises enough. He really did right by me! As much as I hate eating at buffets (not good for dieting), went here for lunch and was actually surprised. The quality was actually fairly decent and not as mediocre as I was thinking it was going to be. We went right at 11am when they opened, so everything was fresh and hot. While some things were hit and miss, the standards like sesame chicken, hot and sour soup, and lo mein were right on. Also, they probably still have my favorite crab rangoons in all of Omaha. Went here at 2:00PM on a weekday. I don't know if you have been to a chinese buffet at that time, but normally it isn't a good idea. Most places have leftovers from lunch that have been sitting in the warming tray for 2 hours. This place was actually really good. There was quite a few people there considering the time. They had fresh food and kept bringing out fresh food while we were there. And if you get bored of the buffet, they have a Mongolian grill as well. The food is pretty good too. I have eaten here before but wow has this place gone downhill. The food was always average but today it was horrible. The egg drop soup was cold. The sushi was awful. The hot buffet was near empty.nThe shrimp on ice was terrible, no taste at all. The sugar covered fried bread that is usually my favorite tasted of rancid grease. The only thing that was any good was the fresh melon and the ice cream. My kids love this place. Me... Not so much. The sushi is gross. Dry and flavorless. I'm sure it's frozen sushi. They need to get a sushi guy like at whole foods. The fried food parts are great, Mongolian grill is amazing, the rest is sub par. I never eat the dessert. It's gross. And WTF fresh shrimp next to salad and oranges? This is a great chinese buffet that also has a Mongolian grill, so you can create your own dishes. It's one of our favorite buffets in the area. I would have given it 5 stars but an employee made me stop taking photos of the food. I told him it was for yelp, but he said I couldn't take pictures.
