The food and service are surprisingly great for such a rural area.

Azteca: Where My Stomach Says 'Me Gusta!'…read more We've been to El Azteca a handful of times now, and it's truly one of our go-to spots for Mexican food. We usually stop by after church, and it never disappoints. Our latest orders were the Carne Asada and the Texano Fajitas--both so flavorful, and the servings are just right. We have to ask to-go boxes after. The ambience is really nice--clean, cozy, and I've always loved their booth seating. The staff is always welcoming and friendly the moment we walk in. And yes, they serve freshly cooked chips right away (always a plus for me!) along with their perfect salsa. My husband and I both love Horchata, and we never skip ordering each of us a big glass of that creamy cinnamon goodness. We've also tried their Camarones a la Crema--shrimp sautéed with mushrooms in a creamy sour cream sauce. Rich, comforting, and perfect with the rice and refried beans on the side. Their fajitas for two with steak come out sizzling, exactly how fajitas should. The flavor is on point, and honestly, it could feed more than just two people. The chorizo and eggs always hit the spot, and the enchilada suiza with egg and green sauce is another favorite. It is simple, comforting, and solid every time. Always a great experience here, and we'll definitely keep coming back.

Staff was very friendly and sat our large group quickly. We got the mini tacos with carne asada,…read moreshredded beef taco combos, and the fajitas. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend!

First time diners on February 8, 2026. Future full time residents and we're trying out different…read moreplaces in the Show Low area. We understand Cattlemen's Steakhouse and Lounge has been in Show Low for quite some time, but cannot compare it to anything prior to February 8, 2026. We understand a remodel occurred in early 2025 and have seen a few pictures of the 'old' look to compare to what we experienced. Overall as far as the decor, it looked nice and the booths were comfortable, however the chandeliers with the bright white LED lights are out of place and annoying! The ambience of a rustic steakhouse should be comforting and relaxing, not cause anxiety due to bright lighting. If the bulbs were softer and less bright white more similar to old fashioned incandescent lights it would probably be fine, but those bulbs are just awful. Yes, it's nice to be able to see your food, but those bulbs make you feel like you are eating in a Walmart. As for decor on the walls, it's too bland and generic and from pictures of the old place, the rustic cowboy look is virtually non existent compared to what was on the walls before. Sometimes less remodeling is better than gutting and removing everything and replacing it with something totally different. It reminded us of the Show Low Cafe as they removed ALL evidence of what was there before that made the place charming and feel LOCAL. Both SLC and Cattlemen's would fit in just fine in a big city now with no evidence left of the previous local charm and art from the looks of it other than the outside of the buildings. I am guessing that many of the locals may feel that they are being thrown under the bus in favor of attracting new customers from faraway places that may have bigger bank accounts. As far as our meal is concerned we actually were pleased for the most part. That evening someone in the kitchen ruined the clam chowder soup by putting broccoli in it. To be fair, the waitress (Stephanie-very nice) did warn us about it and said we could get something else if we didn't like it. We tried it and it tasted like both soup pots were just combined to make one soup. It didn't taste anything like clam chowder, but it wasn't disgusting, so we ate it. A bit on the salty side, but it was edible. That's a huge mistake to make; hopefully the person that made it learned not to do it again. My husband ordered the $45 Filet Mignon and I ordered the $35 12 oz Ribeye. Both of our steaks were cooked properly and tasted very good. The Ribeye could have used a bit more seasoning, but the flavor of the steak itself was very good. The baked potatoes were quite small and I couldn't even cut through the skin on mine, so that was disappointing, as I like to eat the peel of the potato if it's baked right. It was a bit shocking to be served the steak and potato on a normal sized dinner plate where most of the plate was empty. Apparently the soup or salad is included as one of the side options and not above and beyond the 2 sides included in the meal. I remember the days when you got soup or salad and 2 options meant you get 2 side options and soup or salad. At least that was the way things normally went at a restaurant other than a fast food place. It was nice that the menu stated that bread is served upon request, so we didn't sit there and just wait for the bread and not have a clue that you have to ask for it for it to come to your table. Our waitress was very nice and the servers were nice and our meal was served in a timely manner, so no complaints in the service department. Have read that this place has new owners and food quality and service have gone downhill since change of ownership--cannot comment on that other than to say to any 'new' owners or any old owners looking to remodel or refresh an existing long time establishment, it isn't wise to remove all evidence of what existed prior to the remodel or refresh or change in owners. You don't throw the baby out with the bathwater if you want to continue to exist, especially in a small town where the locals that live there year round consist of your most likely customers on a consistent basis. Coming from someone coming from a big city environment down south, that is why we leave the city--to experience local places with local ambience and locally inspired decor that reflects the town we are visiting or moving to and are different than what we have in the big city. Don't just copy and paste what the big corporate owned chain restaurants or stores in the big cities are doing, that's not what most people are looking for. We can get that by spending our money at Outback or The Keg or the likes of those places. We choose your establishment because it is locally owned (hopefully) and different than the usual chain restaurants or stores.

What can I say that has not been said before ? Wife and I started coming here about 9 years ago,…read morewhen we finally became permanent residents, we walked in and the decor had changed, did not have the previous White Mountains "feel" . The "New" Cattlemen's experience , begun as soon as we walked in, sat down, order drinks and of course the bread, 15 minutes later, no drinks ,no bread, so we asked and they were delivered. A second person asked for our drink order, we informed him we had. drinks arrived with bread , that's it! no cutlery no straws!. Now for the "meal" I was ready for an end cut prime rib, medium , I could swear I could see the meat moving , it was so rare and spices must be a request I guess. Wife's 8 ounce sirloin was, medium charcoal ( was sent back) in exchange she receive a cold medium rare served on plate which could serve as a hub cap for 65 Cadillac with a "loaded" potato about 3 inches in length and about same in circumference salads ? had better flying economy on American Airlines. We had to kidnap a waitress to get a drink refill , tables next to us seem to have no problems, maybe friends of the owner (more on that!) We ate what we could and decided to speak with the managers, maybe he was not aware of the problems. We hit the jackpot! We were introduced to the most self-center person who identified as the owner, proceeded to tell us how we did not know what we were talking about, how he had been running restaurants,,,,, also threw workers currently working at Charlie Clark's under the bus,. from what I hear, this the norm,
