I had a patty melt today that was one of the best I've had. The food from this diner is All-American from the 80's. One of the best greasy spoons I've eaten at in a while. Don't come here looking for any avant-garde twists of classic dishes, just the real thing. Meat loaf sandwiches, captain's plates, gravy galore and awesome pies. We were in Port Townsend for the parade and I smelled some pretty tasty food where we were parked and wasn't sure about old-fashioned diner food but I'm glad we stopped. I'll definitely know I can stop by anytime I'm looking for some good ol' comfort food. read more

Hands down the best blueberry pie this side of the Milky Way Galaxy. Fresh plump ripe blueberries, and not over powering sweet. Bought a whole pie to take home. Next time I'm buying 3 or 4 different pies and bringing them home to freeze. The burgers and shakes are great as well. Go between breakfast and lunch or between lunch and dinner because this place gets busy. The waitresses are pros and work their tails off to keep everybody as happy as possible. No slackers here. So give them a break. We go up this way to play Discovery Bay Golf course and after 18 holes this stop is a great way to recharge before hitting that long drive home. read more

It's all about pie and enormous breakfasts! My husband and I split an omelette and still couldn't finish it all. For me, that was about 5 servings of breakfast. Since I love hash browns and toast, this was a wonderful breakfast. A very traditional American breakfast, which was just what i expected based on Yelp. Next up, we split a slice of rhubarb raspberry pie. Delicious! Tender crust. Yes the waitress was loud but in a hearty friendly way and she was very attentive and helpful. Stuffy but comfy inside, $2.52 for a coffee, $2.99 for a biscuit that was half fluffy, half rocky. Get this, $13 for two eggs and a strip of bacon. Look, I'm not looking for free food, but a diner (which is what this is) at a working man's price. I can only imagine what the kids the next town over say of the good children of Chimacum Washington, but lucky them, they have bragging rights over the best cafe for miles. We stopped by the goold ol' Chimacum Cafe on our way home from an adventure weekend at the prompt of a friend who had grown up in the area. The artwork was hard to leave behind, our waitress was an absolute delight, and my diner chicken sandwich and onion rings fully hit the spot. If that weren't enough to satisfy our greasy spoon, we gave into the extensive list of pies, ordering the banana cream AND the mixed berry. Both met with high acclaim. And of course we couldn't leave without one of the famous cinnamon rolls. Diabetic coma realized, we rolled ourselves back to the car and onward home. Almost 5 stars... Little hole-in-the-wall kinda place but great food, dessert, huge portions, good service.

Yesterday, a friend and I met to eat out of our cars, socially distancing. Neither of us had a restaurant meal in months due to COVID and we were both looking forward to a great breakfast. For $19.99 each without tax and tip, we got: Chicken fried steak smothered in a white gravy. We both thought the meat was the best part of the breakfast, yet it was just "OK". Do NOT pass this cafe, without getting some homemade pie. So many times I have been disappointed by too sweet, or just too 'institutional' pie - my true comfort food. I had a slice of cherry pie with the true flavor of real cherries, and not too sweet. Crust was perfect. I have been in my RV for weeks, and tired of my own cooking - so also a "Chimacum Burger" - with the works. So delicious - and all fresh-local ingredients. I will try another menu item next time. Also - Chimacum Cafe has a large parking lot making it an easy stop in an RV. No table seating at this time - but take-out is just fine by me. Went here for the pie and did not leave disappointed. We shared the strawberry rhubarb pie and man it was sooooo good. There was so much flavor in the pie and the crust was perfectly cooked. It also came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that brought it all together. I'm giving it 4 stars for the pie and the service but probably 2.5 for the food. The brown gravy was very salty and slathered all over the plate. Meatloaf didn't have a lot of flavor but the patty melt was pretty good. Private parking lot in the front and plenty of seating for everybody. read more

I've been here several times for breakfast, so I'm not sure what the rest of the menu looks like. One warning about early breakfast. They say they open at 6:00, which is true to a point. The doors are open and you can get coffee, but that is all. They don't fire up the grill for another hour. They will take your breakfast order at 7:00 but it is probably best to show up at about 7:15 or so, after the grill has fully warmed up. The breakfasts I've had here are great. Tasty and big enough to make into two breakfasts. The plate is literally paved with food so I typically eat half of it there and take the rest home in a box. A big slab of golden brown, crispy hash browns, a huge omelette and toast for ten bucks. if you get patty sausage you'll get three rather than two. What's not to love? The staff is friendly and attentive. My coffee cup has never been in any danger of running dry. The walls are covered with reproductions of paintings on canvas. They're all available for sale and all have been marked down to half price. They don't seem to be moving even at that rate. read more

I have grown up coming out to my extended relatives property who live in Chimacum and have eaten there every single time I come into town town to visit which has been every other month for 16.5 years. I have had two tumors and currently am battling a pain condition, stomach disease and have severe heart valve issues. (Yes I know I'm a cluster F of issues.) I have been medically advised/recommended not to take the vaccine and have followed that advice. (Team of doctors not just one.) I wore a mask and tried to explain that I'm medically defective but we were still turned away. This speaks volumes to the years we have gone here, we won't be back even if they change it back to being welcome to everyone. When they go out of business I will consider buying it and opening a COMMUNITY based accepting cafe like it used to be. I'm glad to see they had no one in the there but I genuinely feel for their employees who don't deserve the reproductions of the County and then support by the Owner. read more

I've eaten here many times and it mostly been good. It's just diner food , nice sized portions at a reasonable price. Way better than Denny's or any chains. The lunch specials are awesome and a bargain. (The Paul Bunyan burger being at the top of the list). It's true there are some draw backs to the food, like instant mash potatoes. But the atmosphere is fun and the staff is amazing. Real small town warmth here. The prime rib on Saturdays is the best! I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The full meal selections are preceded by a cup of delicious soup and a large and interesting salad, and followed by a huge mound of ice cream or sherbet. The portions are quite large, whether pot roast or fish and chips or meat loaf or whatever, and are accompanied by your choice of starch and veggies. If anything can be criticized, it's the veggies, which tend to have sat waiting a bit long. I love the baked potatoes myself. The ambiance and friendly feeling is enhanced by the low prices. For quite a few years I've been told, "If you're ever near Chimacum, stop at the cafe." Being that I'm in south Kitsap and I primarily stay in south Kitsap, "near Chimacum" never happened. Until recently. En route to Fort Worden, we stopped in to the cafe with high hopes of delicious diner food. What we got was more than we bargained for. I'm a sucker for grilled cheese sandwiches at diners. Call me lame, call me lackluster, but a good grilled cheese can't be beat. Plus, I wasn't in the mood for a burger or something with far more heft to it, since we were about to take on the trails at the Fort. Honestly it was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches a diner has ever made for me. It wasn't greasy, it was the right amount of solid but gooey. The fries were perfect. My other half got a cold meatloaf sandwich. He said his was pretty darn good, but he definitely would have preferred a dill pickle instead of bread&butter pickles, and that he would have liked a slice of cheese, like how he makes them. The service was ultra fast. The cafe had a full parking lot and people streaming in like crazy, but they were on top of it. My other half's coffee was constantly being topped off, they were always checking in to make sure we were satisfied (without being overbearing), and we were sufficiently fed. The bill came out to $19, which seems a tad bit steep for diner food, but at the same time, it wasn't poor quality food we were served. I would definitely come back to try something else on the menu. I'd love to try their pie at some point. Diner pie is always usually the very best short of making it in your own kitchen :) read more

So we were traveling through and decided from the reviews to stop by, well to say the least we were disappointed.... We got the 1/2 order of the meatloaf sandwich and a grilled cheese, for the meatloaf that is house made? It was super dense, not much flavor, and made him sick within a few hours; the gravy was out of a packet and so were the potatoes; and the white bread the meatloaf and gravy was sitting on was really soggy, the only thing that was ok was the salad which was iceberg lettuce, with shredded cabbage and carrot just thrown on top but at least it was fresh! The grilled cheese was super buttered on each side with a piece of American cheese, 4 slices of dill pickles and a small bag of lays chips on the side. Not great but not horrible, we will never be stopping by here again. So if u r used to good food or don't have a iron stomach, steer clear! read more

Well it's just mediocre. Not bad but not good. For $5.25 my kids got a burger with tons of their special sauce, a small soda and literally a handful of fries. The fries are frozen, nothing special there. The tomato slices on mine and my husbands burgers each measured 1/2 inch on one side and paper thin on the other. Mine came with 2 slices of onion and my husbands with 3! Both had ample slices of iceberg (yes even the white part of the leaf, and no pickles on either... Sigh- it seems like it's just another restaurant living on it's past reputation. read more

This place is such a gem! We've visited for breakfast, lunch and dinner and haven't ever been disappointed. The food is phenomenal, the service is fast, the staff is friendly and the price and portions are fantastic. My personal favorite is the meatloaf. Plus the pies are incredible, though with the hearty portions, we usually take the pies to go. When we stopped here I was starving and really looking forward to a great meal. MASSIVE disappointment. I had (parts of) a grilled ham and cheese, the ham was so salty it was barely eatable. The cheese appeared to be Velveeta. My husband had a shrimp louie salad which was actually pretty good. We both had pie, I had lemon meringue and he had dutch apple. The lemon pie had a very soggy crust, it must have been sitting round for a while. I would not go back unless I had a salad. read more

Wayyyyy to much meat (I ended up taking some off because it was so gross) not enough bun, already soggy. So flavorless. And my au jus was cold... Gross. Spent last Sunday up in Port Townsend and on our way home, decided to phone in and order a pie. When we got there to pick up, you could have blown me over with a feather when I was presented with a $32 BILL!!! FOR A PIE!!! AND A MEDIOCRE PIE AT THAT!!! WHAT THE HECK MAN? This pie used to be worth the drive from Bremerton but NEVER worth $32 and now, I wouldn't have paid $10 for what we got. Not good CC, not good at all! read more

See lots of cars here, thought maybe is missing something so mom and I finally made it in. Came for breakfast, immediately noticed there was nothing on the menu I wanted, she wanted biscuits and gravy. She asked the waitress the gravy is house made, waitress looked perplexed and said yes, my mom clarified "not from a package or can?" Waitress responded"no" was not confident seeming so my mom told her she is watching her salt intake curious if the sausage is brown and serve or cooked there on spot , the prices are high for Sysco pre made food so anyhow food comes out , sausage obviously brown and serve and gravy is white as paper and obviously not house made. There was nothing good that I can think of about the place not even the coffee. read more
