Chilo's Food Truck NY BK Clinton Hill 2pm Saturday 10th December 2016 Four Stars I saw this place at a rooftop party on Independence Day of 2015. It is coincidentally a couple blocks away from Tiffany's work. We enjoyed a Bloody Mary and Michelada with our Food Truck Tacos. During the summer it's open air. During the winter there is canopy and heaters. It's still a bit chilly since it's 30 degrees out. The picnic benches and food truck remains throughout. The Tacos range from $3-$5. I had a carnitas, chicken, and chorizo+egg and Tiff had Pork Belly and Duck. There were freshly made, well seasoned, and delicious. They have six additional sauces plus DIY radishes, limes, peppers, and pickled onions. Overall it was an enjoyable $20 meal for the both of us. read more

How on Earth is one fish tacon$6.50??? And you already know its some cheap farmed fish. And the shrimp taco...one taco.....is $6.00 too rich for my blood. The pork and the chicken options are around $4/5 so I guess that's cheaper. Meanhwile my friend had the chicken and the chirozo taco and said they may be the best taco she's ever had. There is great ambience here. The inside is pretty tight and not many tables, but the outdoor area is a very nice place to hangout. Outside there are picnic tables and food. The carnitas and chicken tacos are 100! I'm not sure what specific salsa they use for the chips and salsa but it was delicious, especially on the tacos. Prices are typical for tacos and chips/salsa. The food service was unbelievably fast! Before I could even go back to my table my name was called to pick up my food! I do have to say the drinks are well worth the price. Average prices for New York, about $10 a margarita, but it was delicious! Paired with the food and the outdoor setting, this is a great place to go for happy hour or quick bite to eat! I only give it 4stars because you can't buy drinks at the food stand outside, so you have to make 2 trips to get the food and then your drink. read more

The first time I tried to visit this place, it was closed (4th of July, so it makes sense..) But my sister and I finally got to try and We really enjoyed it! She got carnita tacos and I got chicken. They seemed small for $4, but they ended up being very filling so two was plenty for dinner. We liked the vibes of the outdoor seating and even though we didn't get any drinks, it seemed like they had good options. The only thing I wasn't super happy with was the lack of seating outside by the taco truck. There were a few picnic benches that were full the whole time we were there. I think maybe a different set up could lend to more seating, but that was the only complaint! read more

Chilo's is a great low key spot. Margaritas were perfect and their assortment of fun drinks looked promising for future visits. I really liked the outdoor seating area. I didn't love my shrimp taco, way too much sauce, it was falling apart, but overall it's still a great convenient idea to have a taco truck. Next time I'll just try a different one and see if it's more up my alley. Definitely a perfect after-work spot or weekend day drinking location. read more

Second time here and first time sitting down for food. Today my teenage so. And I have our date night and decided to stay local. I have seen this place evoke from a taco truck to now modifiers with a roof and indoor heating to accommodate the winter months. The wait seem to be long as it was a pack house and got a margarita and soda for my son to pass the time. I am in no rush tonight. We have been seated for about 15 minutes and I notice that the couple who just came are already munching on their food. I inquired and was told that there was a mixup with my ticket. Not in a hurry tonight but I wish someone informed me or just apologized. Things happen and a simple apology can soften the blow or make it seem like you care. I must say that the way the chef shouts your name with the from the truck is very amusing. It made me felt like I was back in school and the teacher was making sure I stayed in line. It adds a certain character to the place. The tacos were tasty and very lightly season. The rib I had was well smoked but bland. Wish it has a little more seasoning. My son loved the beef taco and is still raving about it. All is all I will return. read more

Chilo's is absolutely amazing! From the super attentive bartender to the yummy indoor food truck tacos, this place is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. There are so many great options to choose from here. My three top suggestions are the #1 Painkiller-light and spiced rum with orange, pineapple & coconut cream topped with shaved nutmeg. #2 The chorizo taco, thank me later. #3 The pico back- a huge twist on a pickle back, where they use pico de gallo instead. Ya can't beat the $10 3-taco-plus-a-Tecate happy hour deal. I can't usually make it in by the 6:30pm cutoff, but it's sooooo worth it if you can. Tacos are bomb. Everyone raves about the fish (which is delish) but my fave might have to be the huitlacoche, aka corn smut. More delicious than it sounds. Fix up your tacos however you like with their bar of all sorts of toppings & sauces. If you're feeling zesty, follow up the HH deal with a pitcher of margaritas to share. They're a lil on the weaker side but a solid value if you split with a friend. Can't believe I haven't pulled the trigger on a mezcal flight here yet. If I could get a pitcher of mezcal margs this would be a 6/5. read more

BEST TACOS EVER!! No, really. I want to eat them everyday. The outside patio area was pretty hot, but I don't even care. All I could focus on was the meat in my mouth. The carnitas were so full of flavor. The shrimp had this lovely mango or something added. Eat everything with the avocado salsa. You won't regret it. I may have eaten here twice. Within a 4 hour span. Don't judge. Inside is casual and laid back. The Day of the Dead motif is fun. Decent drink selection. read more

Coming from the owners of Mayfield's and staffed by some of the best bartenders from Crown Heights, I had high hopes for Chilo's. Not just a bar with a taco truck but a fantastic bar with an amazing taco truck, Chilo's has become one of my favorite places to hangout. Having eaten 90% of the menu I can say the taco truck has no misses and quite a few hits.My personal faves are the shrimp taco, smoked beef taco and fish taco. They recently added a duck carnitas which is quite good and it's hard to go wrong with chorizo. Priced from $3 to $5.50, the tacos are a great deal. The bar is good, great and dangerous. The good is the selections of beers and excellent cocktails. The great is the staff. Whether I know them from another bar or just met them here, I always feel welcomed. The dangerous is the frozen drinks and pico back shots.The pico back is basically a savory pico de gallo mix that taste so go you want to do more shots than you probably should.The frozen drinks are deceptively sweet and smooth but pack a major punch.The frozen margarita is always there and they rotate the other frozen drink. I do have two issues with Chilo's. 1. taco truck closes too early for me (11pm) many a late night I want tacos but arrive too late. 2.The bar chairs are too big and backs too wide. Awkward to move when getting up and down, awkward to hang your coat on. None of this will stop me from coming back. read more

I tried this place because of a recommendation from a fellow helper. The first time I went I left satisfied I had the painkiller and sampled some tacos. While I was disappointed that they only use corn tortillas I wasn't turned off returning. My most recent visit was not as pleasant as the first. Firstly the female bartender who was working that day completely ignored us as we were waiting to place an order. The worst part was another patron walked in after us, stood right in front of us as the bartender took the order. We were disappointed but decided to let it go as we were trying to have a good night. We ordered a painkiller and a margarita. We were told that the margaritas were not frozen yet and asked if we still wanted one. We said yes. The bartender proceed to make a margarita on the rocks. When we pointed out that we preferred that no frozen mix she was inflexible and stated "it is essentially the same thing." We skipped on the margarita and kept the one painkiller because we felt bad about leaving that as well..... I am always blown away by how customer service can completely make or break a business. I will not be returning again. There are way too many bars in New York City for me to be okay with this kind of treatment. The two stars are an average of the ratings from both visits. When you put tacos and margaritas together and throw in a cool outdoor space, magic happens. Chilo's is a newer edition to Bed Stuy, and people still like the new kid. Drink wise I've had the frozen margarita and the amazing froze, which was made with rose and other yummy ingredients. Both were strong and so tasty, and the bartenders were more than friendly. Out back is where you can order tacos-- I've tried the chorizo, mole, fish, chicken, and shrimp. Chorizo, fish, and chicken are my top three at the moment, and there is a topping bar so you can dress your tacos up as you want. The guys in the truck are also friendly and food comes out quickly. While it's still nice out the backyard fills up fast--lots of groups. So many groups. But you can usually find a seat or make friends and squeeze in somewhere. They also accept cards at the truck, so order a round of tacos for your friends. I have no complaints about Chilo's--here's hoping the taco truck is active in the winter! read more

This place is really fun - from my visit, it appears to be a top choice for people going out with large groups of friends. Let's start with the food. The people in the truck seem to be having a pretty good time, and the options here are great. I had their carnitas taco, which was delicious, and their fish taco which I would recommend if someone was planning on just getting one taco to go along with some of their drinks as it was the most hefty. I'd say three tacos are the size of a normal dinner; four tacos for someone extra hungry. We went the four taco route and I have no regrets. I definitely recommend adding on some of the sauces from the available condiments since the tacos really benefited from it. My tolerance is pretty high, but the hottest sauce they have is still pretty easy on your tongue, so don't be too afraid. Add some of the radish slices too - they seemed to go great with pretty much every taco they had on the truck. Only downside is that the condiments appear to be fairly depleted besides the sauces upon my 10pm visit. I still was able to grab enough radishes for my tacos, but they were next to two other small metal bins containing whispers of tasty taco additions and nothing more. The margaritas were delicious and pretty strong. However, I can't speak to the bar experience since my boyfriend grabbed the drinks. I should mention the bathrooms too. Maybe it's because I'm a recent transplant from DC and am still easily fooled into being dazzled by ~decorated bathrooms~, but these were pretty cool! They have these projected, moving starry lights in each of the stalls which is worth a quick jump inside even if only to ensure your teeth are carnitas-free. The outside seating area in the back with the taco truck has picnic tables that were a bit crowded upon our arrival, which isn't too surprising considering we went on a Saturday night at 10pm. Still, after a minute or two of making puppy dog eyes and hovering awkwardly, we managed to snag seats. I will definitely come back to Chilo's. read more

Went for the last 10 minutes of happy hour (dollar off drafts/well drinks) last week for a couple beers with my boyfriend. We got 2 of the 'pico backs' which I think were shots of your choice followed by a shot of pic de gallo juice?! I can't remember exactly, but I think that's right. Anyway, I love picklebacks and these gave them some serious competition in my heart. They were only $6 and Extremely Refreshing. The guys in the food truck out back were so friendly, especially the one who was up at the driver's seat taking our order. I'd come back to just to become best friends with him. We tried 2 tacos. I honestly can't remember what kind of fillings they had, but one was veggie and one was a meat that was slow-roasted. Both were messy & great. Stopped in to try out the tacos and thought they were awesome! Fully loaded tacos. Lots of meat in every taco. There are a wide variety of sauces on the counter (Avocado Tomatillo, Salsa Verde...and more). The shrimp tacos were great. They are mixed with tiny bits of mango which was nice but too much mango can be a little much. Aside from that, the shrimps were delicious. The carnita tacos were my favorite. Often times carnitas can be chewy, very fatty but theirs is just right. Not too much fat and just the right amount of crunch. The flavors, mixed with the lime, sour cream and sauces were to die for. My wife ordered a frozen mango margarita, even though it was pretty strong, it ran us about $12. All in all I enjoyed my experience. It can be whatever your heart desires: a chill spot for daytime tacos with your fam, a relaxed happy hour spot, or a full-on margarita-fueled night. I've eaten from the permanent food truck in the back several times, both dining in and delivery through Caviar. I've liked everything I've had, but have really enjoyed the tortas. I kept riding by Chilo's and thinking that I must try this place, so yesterday, I tried the place and I was so happy I did. They have a little taco truck in the back of the restaurant where you order your food and man, it did not disappoint. I ordered two 2 shrimp tacos and 1 chicken taco. The shrimp taco had a sweetness to it from the pineapple and the chicken was seasoned nicely, not too salty, too hot or too bland. They also load your taco so there's not skimp there. I also took a bit of my husband's duck taco and the only thing could say was "oh sh*#" because damn, that was good. First time here was friday 4/27/18 walked through the bar headed to the backyard where they had a makeshift truck in the back yard couple of benches and some tables and chairs set up for you to sit eat and drink,you seat yourself which is fine with me,you order your tacos from the truck and drinks from the bar inside,I had a Painkiller because I heard it was strong and sneak up on you,not true by the way. I ate the duck,shrimp and beef taco the beef and duck was so delicious,I didn't care for the shrimp because it had chunks of pineapples in it,we didn't stay long because it wasn't a backyard kind of night for us,it wasn't warm enough..it was a good crowd of people there but we left after finishing our drink and food,I'll definitely go back again,nice crowd food atmosphere read more

Taco snob here. Love their truck out back and nice to see they have heating and a roof in the winter time now. Tacos (etc) are fairly priced, simple, but have all the fixings to customize it to your liking. Newcomers should try the Huitlacoche (vegetarian). Frozen cocktails (particularly their Painkiller) are great too. Probably best to go before the evening rush if you're looking for a chill experience. Incredible tacos and great frozen margaritas! The tacos range from $3-5 and you go out back to order them from a taco truck that's been parked in their courtyard. There's outdoor seating in the form of picnic tables and and an easy-going atmosphere. I went on a Friday night and the taco truck was open until midnight, which was fantastic, as my friends and I had gotten there around 10:30. We also didn't have to wait very long for the tacos which was such a plus! I highly recommend the chorizo tacos! The taco truck also has a variety of sauces and toppings to put on the tacos once you've received them. Super delicious as they come right off the grill and piping hot. Also, the truck takes card so no needs to worry about having enough cash! Super friendly service too! In regards to drinks, we tried the watermelon mezcal slushy at first ($9) but realized that it tasted a bit rancid. When we asked for the frozen margarita ($8) instead, the bartender was incredibly nice and switched out our drinks for free. Overall great vibe and amazing food and drink. Taco truck here is straight up fire. It reminds me of Union Pool's taco truck... Tried the fish and shrimp tacos, both of which were amazing. My friend tried the avocado tostada and loved it. Vibe is nice. There's an inside bar area where the music is pretty loud, but people are lounging. The outside area is nice (and it's where the taco truck is). Only issue is that the outside area closes at 12. You can still order food inside when the outside area closes. Definitely nice for a small dinner/late night eats/casual drinks read more

Chilo's, are you every Brooklyn hipster's dream? You serve fun tiki drinks and have a taco truck in your backyard. There are beer specials that go with said taco truck! Sadly, once you get past your hip, fun facade, your drinks are too sweet, your tacos too much. Where's the subtlety Chilo's? I don't want to be hit over the head with sugar.
