Best tacos I've had in a very long time. Instead of a regular taco I got the gringa which is like a regular taco but they add another tortilla on top and melted cheese underneath to create a "quesadilla". I looked on their online menu for shrimp couldn't find it but in person they did offer grilled shrimp ($1 up charge). The cashier was friendly and answered my questions clearly. This business is inside of Dekalb Market on the lower level so it's pretty loud down there. It doesn't bother me since I'm going for good food plus they have plenty of seats nearby. I went with the gringa because it came with cheese and pineapple. In all honestly just by them adding pineapple to their tacos they're killing the game. I've gotten so bored with regular tacos I was starting to think I didn't like them anymore, this business has changed that for me. Shrimp gringa 10/10, the shrimp were freshly grilled and it came with some type of sauce that I loved. Al Pastor gringa 9/10, it was really good not dry at all and flavorful but the shrimp outdid this one. I also ordered a horchata, chips and pico de gallo. Chips were warm, fresh and the pico omg best I've ever had. Freshly made with just the right amount of spice, I ordered one more to go since the first cup wasn't enough to finish my order of chips. Also, one more shrimp gringa to go because it was just that good. I will definitely be coming back! I went to El Jefe Tacos located in the downstairs food court. I ordered just one taco because I just wanted to try out their tacos. I ordered an Al Pastor taco, it was incredibly delicious, filled with so much flavor, hot sauce, pineapple and meat. I had something beforehand so that's why I didn't order more but it was definitely a delicious taco experience. I would recommend coming to this food court to try out the Mexican food here at El Jefe tacos. The ambiance is chill and laid-back since this restaurant is at the food court. The service was great. It was a little busy when I came here. So my order took a little long to be prepared and be ready, but it's understandable. My colleagues ordered the Carne Asada Burrito, Pollo Asado Burrito, and Pollo Asado Taco. Everyone loves their meal. My tacos were made with corn tortilla and were well seasoned. Food Poisoning! We grabbed al pastor tacos for lunch. I had skipped breakfast so it was my first and eventually last meal of the day. It tasted OK but it's so packed with cheese and fillings that we didn't notice anything off. The pork did seem a bit drier than a typical al pastor. By dinner time I was feeling intense pains in my stomach. Didn't want to eat anything. Overnight I was violently ill. The next day, found out my colleague who ate the same thing with me from here was also sick. I like the food here. Been ordering in-person and delivery since they opened at Dekalb and would normally note this business a 4 of 5 stars. However this last time I came at 1 pm on a Tuesday. It wasn't busy. 1 person at the stall was eating in the open kitchen. I waited for a few minutes until he nearly finished and finally came up while talking on his personal phone. Ordered a burrito and tipped. There were 2 other women there after my order but uncertain their role. He then proceeded to may my burrito. I chirped up asked him to wash his hands since he hadn't after watching him finish off his own tacos. He put on some gloves (didn't wash hands) and made my burrito. I then get the attached rice burrito with very little meat. Disappointing to have this guy retaliate after just asking to be clean. @theowner and @themanager need to do better training and leadership here. read more

This is one of the best food places in Dekalb Market. They make everything fresh for you. The tortillas taste homemade. I noticed right away everything is not super greasy and flipped together like some Mexican places open late. Ordered three burritos, two carne asada and one Al pastor. The two carne asada burritos were completely unsatisfactory, as they seemed to have been put together from scraps of leftover beef. There was less than one taco's worth of carne asada in each of the burritos. I'm talking straight tiny scraps of mostly fat. They also put maybe a small spoonful of guac in each burrito... Yes it seems expensive but three tacos cost $15 which is what it would be at a restaurant. With hand made masa, meat you can see like gyro meat and great music this is definitely a spot to come into the market for. Great addition to the Dekalb Food Court! I tried the Pollo Asado and Al Pastor both as Volcan. They were delicious with the Al Pastor being the standout with a perfect level of spice balanced by the pineapple. I like the flexibility of the menu that allows any of the five main option to be served as tacos, quesadillas, gringa, burrito, bowl, or volcan - a fried corn tortill with melted cheese which I enjoy trying for the first time. The chicken itself had a slight char, which contributed a lot to its great flavor. The texture of the chicken mixes in really well with the soft flour tortilla and it all comes together nicely in terms of the sauces and toppings provided, especially if you decide to go in with a bit of lime. I was stuck for a bit because of how many amazing beverage options there were. You can never go wrong with a cold Jarritos or Squirt, but the apple soda and sangria also caught my eye.
