A very underrated wellness spa located in the heart of Manhattan, a few blocks from Grand Central. Almost don't want to advertise what a gem this place is! I've only tried the float therapy here so far. The float rooms are located in the bottom floor down this very steep staircase, but inside it is nearly completely soundproof (or as soundproof as one can get in the middle of Midtown...). The experience is very relaxing, as you get a huge private room to shower and then float in. The tubs are also really big so you don't feel claustrophobic. I appreciate the amenities as well, like lotion and little packets of Vaseline to cover up cuts. You get plenty of time to shower before and after your appointment so you do not feel rushed at all. I really look forward to my sauna sessions at Chill Space. Chill Space embodies its name, the spa is airy, bright and welcoming. Everyone I encounter is kind and knowledgeable. There are two private sauna rooms, both are large and fully stocked with towels, a robe, cold water, eucalyptus infused face towels and wipes. I prefer sauna room 1 because it has a private shower. The sessions are easily booked on their website (they are open 4 days a week). I also love how central their location is, they are located two blocks from Grand Central Station/Bryant Park. Okay so the reason for my negative review is the lady working there. I went and did the cryotherapy for the first time and it was sooooo cold (duh). As I had never done it before, I definitely let out a few curse words and raised the volume of my voice. The woman working there literally kept glaring at my friend and acting like I was being so inappropriate and like she was embarrassed to have me as a customer. Like, sorry! It was really cold! I can't imagine I'm the only person to ever react like that to cryotherapy. Instead of making me feel like a loser she should be soothing and helping me through it. Situated in Midtown East on the 6th floor of an office building Chill Space creates a peaceful environment as a wellness center. My friend and I did a session of float therapy for the first time. The facility has 2 floats which have showers in each. Amanda and Matt were super helpful with explaining the process and providing instructions and overall background of float therapy. You change your shoes upon entering the center so that you can keep them clean. The float therapy itself was definitely an expierence if you're a first timer it takes about 20 minutes to get comfortable in the environment and then you should float into a meditative state and maybe even fall asleep. Float therapy has been shown to improve muscle recovery, sleep benefits, concentration enhancements, and more. Would definitely go again! Some suggestions would be to offer a towel rack in the shower area and also provide a proper area (ie: a shelf or locker) to store personal belongings like clothes while in the float. Additionally in the float if they could show the time somewhere (maybe glow in the dark) so you'd know how much longer you have to float. And for the buttons (light, music, emergency) it'd also be helpful to have a glow in the dark feature so that if you turn the lights off in the room you would know which button you are pressing. I had turned the lights off and then accidentally pressed the emergency button bc I didn't realize which button I was pressing. Overall great expierence for a first float! read more

I heard about this place on Saturday February 26, 2022. So I looked into it and the reviews were quite good. I called forvam appointment for Sunday the 27th and they had availability for my two friends and I. When I called I spoke with Kristen (sp), who was very patient answering all my questions. Upon arrival I met Kristen and the other staff, the reviews were right SUPER NICE. I had such a relaxing time all that was needed was a nice massage. I had never done floatation therapy until today and will definitely return for more treatments. I was highly stressed upon arrival but after the infrared sauna then then the floatation therapy, I was totally relaxed as were my friends. This is such a find in NYC. Lived one block away from this place for almost 2 years and never heard about it until it came up on google maps when I was looking for a nearby coffee place. I've always been interested in the concept of infrared saunas but just cant justify $80+ a session. Here they were offering a code that made it a little over $50 a session. So I purchased and went. Upon entering the space I also noticed it was a doctors office as well but it also felt very relaxing. homey, and clean I booked the infrared sauna room without the shower just because I live one block away and figured since I was taking an after work appointment I'd give it to someone who rather rinse off before heading home. Its a nice size room with the sauna and space to change. Cons: forgot a water and they did have water in the room but it was an open pitcher and just being someone who watches too much of the news and true crime I didn't feel comfortable drinking somethin that anyone could have put anything in. So do make a note if you feel similar to bring your own water bottle. Also- there is definitely no "extras" no fluffy robes, spa water, etc. I was brought it by the staff who upon leaving immediately started my timer of 45 minutes. I even got there 10 minutes early because I was hoping to have a few minutes to undress and then learn the sauna and not use my 45 minutes doing that but they were very strict and even told me I wouldn't last 45 minutes on my first try anyway. Overall really enjoyed the experience. They let you choose your lighting on your sauna and each one promotes healing of something. I chose red which was more calming and turned all the other room lights off. I did feel great when I left. I really like it for a chill post weekend boost but definitely don't think its an everyday or even weekly thing. I did buy another 20% off service on the spot on the way out however so I could come again. I've been coming to Chill Space now for a little over a year now and it's one of those places that truly deserves 5 stars. First and foremost I have to give a huge shoutout to the staff here. They are incredibly knowledgable, super friendly, and they really go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable with whatever service you're coming in for. My first time "floating" Easy to make an appointment It's on the 6th floor of a building with a teeny elevator for those sensitive to those sort of things. Cool space, very very steep spiral staircase leading to the tank. I had to grip the railings pretty tightly! Staff is lovely. Explained a lot. I should have read more beforehand. I couldn't quite relax right away in the tank because my abs were tightening and my neck doing the same. They warned me tank would be slippery which it was. After about 15 minutes ( I think!!) I was able to relax and enjoy. The water is salty, the tank is like a large jacuzzi with doors. Not claustrophobic at all. Like a mini pool. I had to breathe myself into relaxation since it's an off feeling lying naked in a pool and you're magically floating. It's definitely an interesting experience but a little freaky too. So happens there was a slight malfunction in my tank so the lights turned on prematurely ending my session after only 35 minutes. Staff was very cool and comped my session. I was happy to pay for the time I was in but they insisted. I wish I knew the gal at the front desks name because she was lovely and really seemed to care whether I had a good experience or not. I'm not sure where or when I first heard about sensory deprivation, but it sounded like a unique, relaxing experience, so I knew I wanted to try it when I had a chance. Going through reviews, I settled on Chill Space, which also happened to have an introductory offer of 3 sessions for the price of 2. Expensive, but potentially worth it. I like Chill Space's flexible hours; my first session was on a Friday night, and the place was pretty empty, so I didn't have to wait, which was nice. The front desk staff greeted me and gave me an overview of the sensory deprivation session process. From there, I changed into a robe they provided and headed down to the lower level. As someone else on Yelp mentioned, you're a bit exposed when going up and down the spiral staircase unless you wear panties. You could just wait to change in the floating room if it makes you more comfortable, though (or just wear a bathing suit or change clothes in the float room itself). In the float room, Chill Space provides free petroleum jelly packets (to cover any minor scrapes/cuts, which definitely would sting otherwise), disposable earplugs, and Jāsön hair and body products. You're supposed to take a shower first to rinse off any lotions or other products so as to not contaminate the water in the tub. In my float room (the one closest to the bathroom), I had to turn the dial at least 360 degrees to get a comfortable warm temp, but other than that, it was a nice, small waterfall-like shower to prep for the float. The changing room and floating room were a bit warm, but the water was a comfortable temperature. Oddly, the water seemed a bit cool, especially when moving about, but as soon as you just relax, it's very insulating with your body heat. By the way, although some have expressed concern with using a shared tank of water, I don't think those worries are necessarily realistic; the high salt content should keep bacteria and such at bay, just like ocean water. Plus, Chill Space claims to filter the water after each use. Between the lack of light and sound (which you can control; they have optional peaceful music to play), it was easy to relax. Once I let my mind go, I went to the in-between of consciousness and unconsciousness. I encountered some thoughts that seemed strange in the moment but might not really be, like a baby bird feeding its parent mushed up food and a building smoking a gigantic cigarette. I don't remember most of my other thoughts, though...it was overall a bit more of a relaxing and surreal experience than one defined by concrete thoughts. One thing I would recommend is make sure you check your flaps and cracks for bubbles *before* dozing off or you might get a tickly surprise at a most inopportune moment! Overall, it was an interesting experience, and I had no issues using the remaining 2 sessions (either with scheduling or the floats themselves). read more

I had a great time at Chill Space! From my email inquiries, to my arrival, to my departure - they were very welcoming. I enjoyed an infrared sauna session in a private room. Although I didn't need to, I did bring a bikini and wore it for my session, although you could feel perfectly comfortable going in without clothes. The room was equipped with eucalyptus chilled towels which you can use to wipe off. Apparently there is another room with a shower which you may want to request if you're going in for just that one treatment and need to shower before you leave. I stayed and had a float tank treatment. Again, it was very private, and you have a shower available to use before and after the treatment, as well as a hair dryer and an array of products to use. I giggled for the first few minutes, but you have no sense of time or space, so I did feel a little anxious and bored after a while, and if you have any joint issues, it may get a little uncomfortable and you may want to step out for a few minutes and take a break. It's not always easy to find, nor is it something I can find locally when I'm home. I've been in tanks that make you think of Stranger Things (or Altered States.) I've been in tanks that are like a clamshell (which are great.) Chill Space has the best tank I've ever been in - and it's the tank I'd recommend for someone who wants to try floatation therapy/sensory deprivation. It's more like a mini-pool. And the room is perfectly quiet and dark. I couldn't have told I was in the middle of NYC. Staff was friendly and gave great instruction on exactly what to do. I have never been to a spa like this before. A friend brought me with her to her appointment. She was going to do the cryotherapy. I decided to give it a shot. I was told by the spa attendants that it was great for inflammatory which is definitely something I need. My first time doing it went amazing. It does get very cold but you're only in it for three minutes. I enjoyed it tremendously. When I came out of it, I felt 50 pounds lighter. My whole body feels amazing. Definitely worth it. Highly recommend. I have been seeing Dr. Kantor for applied kinesiology sessions since 2012 and he has dramatically changed my life and the ways in which I practice self-care. These new additions to his services is equally as transformative. Today I experienced float therapy and it was, for lack of better words, magical. I was emailed beforehand, which provided a clear list of instructions on how to prepare and what to expect, making the process simple and streamlined. The float itself was amazing - calming, relieving, reviving, so soothing I even fell asleep a few times​.​ I truly believe everyone could benefit from the sense of ease it provides body and mind​, especially someone like me whose body is my career and is often sore/tight/tense (etc). Double doors, alongside the earplugs, ensure little to no sound. Because it a decompresser, I felt incredible space in my joints and neck/shoulders/hips/spine, and wound up in such a relaxed state that the soft vibrations of the water wound up feeling like a tiny massage wherever it touched on the outer perimeter of my skin. I did not feel the need to use the neck pillow and never felt stressed that the salt water would creep into my eyes. Light chimes sounded before the lights came back on, neither of which were sharp or invasive, and gently woke me out of my deep float bliss. Had such a great experience here! I was able to take some time in the infrared sauna and then capped it off in the float tank. Firstly, the staff was so friendly and attentive. And the space was beautiful and very welcoming! I started in the IR sauna with light therapy and was able to pick what color best suited my needs for that day. I was searching for an infrared sauna and found this business on Yelp. I called to make an appointment but ended up booking online. When I arrived, I had to fill out a few forms and shortly after was escorted to a small room with lockers to change into a robe and slippers. I booked the sauna with the full shower for after which I definitely recommend. You can choose different light settings or keep the lights to rotate on auto. They have a menu that highlights the benefit of each light color. It was a great detox sweat session. If it's your first time, I would give yourself a few hours to cool down after. read more

Came here on a gilt city deal with a co-worker; loved it so much I ended up getting a package deal the next day. First impression: the space is nice and clean and the receptionist was so patient and helpful explaining the infrared sauna and cryotherapy to us first-timers. After we changed into robes and slippers and locked our belongings up, Alina told us how to use the sauna controls, what to expect and what to do to get the maximum benefit from the sauna room. I booked the "couples" sauna room that had a private shower and it was great. The sauna set up was basic but clean and comfortably fit 2 people seated. We just hung out and chatted and the heat felt great on my aching neck and back. I felt even better after this than after a massage for my stressed out body parts. And it was great to be able to shower right there without having to go outside in the "public" waiting area. The whole body cryo experience was a thrill, too. Your body has to be completely dry, so we made sure to pat down our lady parts and armpits thoroughly so they wouldn't freeze. You can wear undies or be butt naked for the cryo (dudes have to wear undies or put a sock on so your junk doesn't freeze) and it's OK if your hair is wet as long as it's up since the machine chills your bod from the neck down. Alina gave us thick socks and gloves to wear so our extremities wouldn't freeze. You just step in this machine and your body gets this awesome wakeup call and your skin feels tight and smooth at the same time. Alina monitored us and chatted with us during the 3-minute session, and having a conversation with someone really keeps your mind off the fact that you're in a contained tube that's negative 200 degrees! I loved it. Honestly, I feel so relaxed and awake at the same time and my skin felt great. The customer service here is stellar. Someone explains the process to you when you book the appointment, someone is walking you through during your first time, and someone is monitoring you while you're freezing your @ss off to make sure nothing goes wrong. No one pushed us to buy anything or come back right away, and Alina told us of first timer package deals but said to wait to see how we felt first before purchasing anything and if we had any questions to just call or email and ask. I received an email the next day asking how my experience was and I liked it so much I bought a package for the sauna and cryo. Bringing my sister next time b/c she'd love it, too. read more

Went to Chill Space on Thursday for the infrared sauna and was very satisfied. I had been to Higher Dose ( the "trendy" spot) for the saunas previously and honestly preferred this experience much more. I usually do the infrared sauna before an event to drop water weight quick and it has been extremely effective. Chill Space is not only cheaper than Higher dose, but the overall space is nicer. You have your own private room and shower, unlike Higher Dose that didn't have a shower at all! 35 minutes was a lot, so my friend and I got out about 5 minutes early and showered within the 45 minutes. It is HOT but in a good way, you really feel like youre sweating out toxins. I am looking forward to coming back again soon! read more

I asked about the set up but didn't ask if there were shower facilities, assuming a spa would have a shower available after a sweaty sauna. When I was shown into the room I was impressed with the size of the sauna but I didn't see a shower and was informed that I was to use some perfumed wipes and chilled wash clothes after the sauna because the room I was assigned didn't have a shower. I went in for a float session as I've been super curious about it and they have reasonable rates for first timers. Be warned, they make you change into a bathrobe and leave all of your belongings upstairs in a locker. I'm not really sure why this is as the float suites downstairs are well spacious enough to change before you shower for the tank. Beyond that, the changing room opens directly onto the lobby and is smack in front of reception so you're basically standing there naked in a bathrobe with street traffic walking in :-/. Also the spiral staircase downstairs leaves you 100% exposed from below. The float suite itself is immaculate and comfortable. I found the room temp a little colder than the water so it wasn't the 100% immersion I was expecting. All in all it's worth checking out, but I wouldn't do it again, and I'd strongly advise keeping some clothes on under your robe until you get downstairs. read more

Went in today to use their infrared sauna. You are asked to change in a dressing room and put your belongings in a locker. The sauna and shower are across from this area. I thought it was a little strange that you're not allowed to bring your clothes with you into the room, but I just went along - big mistake. They have one room and it's kept in clean, organized condition. The private shower is a nice touch. However, after I showered and changed into my robe and and still slightly damp, I opened the door to find the next patron, a male, waiting directly outside of my door. Very awkward for the both of us to say the least. When I voiced my horror to the standoffish front desk person, she brushed it off and didn't even apologize for not warning me that I could potentially be running into another customer on my way out to change clothes. My daughter wanted to try this so we went together and it was really quite neat! The building is non-descript and I saw no signage out front so we almost walked past it, however, once you get inside and upstairs, the space is very nice - warm, welcoming, clean, friendly, and open. The cryo-sauna is like a tube standing length-wise on one end. We wore bathing suits and talked to eachother a LOT to distract one another from the cold and is it COLD! Your head is "free" - looking out the top and then nitrogen is all around your body and you have three minutes in exceptionally cold temps. Afterwards, we both felt incredibly refreshed and alert. We also slept really well and my skin felt very smooth and nice. They also told me it can burn between 600-800 calories a session (!) . I am not sure I believe that part but I would definitely try it again. The only thing I was unsure about was the gratuity amount. They don't do much in the same way a massage therapist, for example, is providing an obvious service. The lady just walks you in, tells you to get in the tube and then tells you when your 3 minutes is up; that's it. I thought, based on that, there wouldn't be a need to tip but the receptionist asked us right away to please leave a gratuity - which felt a little aggressive. We left 15% but it seemed like a lot ($17 each) for 3 minutes in the cryo sauna on top of the $85 each for the session. That was the only reason I might not do it again soon. read more
