I got a groupon to try the salt room here. The place is located on the 9th floor of an office building so it was a bit hard to find but the actual place was very chill and pretty once you get out of the elevator. Definitely new and modern looking. My salt room appointment was for 30 minutes and I found it super chill. There isn't much to do inside the room but just sit back and breathe, although you can also do some yoga or meditation if you wish. The room is very clean and I liked walking barefoot on the salt covered floor. It reminds me a bit of walking on the beach or in a zen garden. I also felt safe because I got the whole room to myself so I can enjoy the experience mask free and at ease. Knocked down a star because if you use a Groupon you actually need to call them to book over the phone and they require a credit card on file. They also do try and upsell you on packages and memberships over the phone. But other than that I wouldn't mind coming back here to try some of their other services in the future. read more

Came here for the infrared sauna and it was a nice space. The front desk person was helpful and friendly and the room was big and spacious. I bought two more certificates for it after I tried it the first time. The sauna for 1 person is actually meant for 2 and the sauna for 2 people is meant for 3. I guess they do that so you don't feel claustrophobic read more

This is a unique wellness-focused spa in New York's spa market. I first discovered this place when I was browsing Groupon, looking for a deal on spas. I am a big fan of infrared saunas, and instantly purchased the voucher after seeing. Appointments are easy to make online or over the phone, though you will have to make an appointment through Groupon over the phone. The location is in a residential building in Nomad, which is easily accessible. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The infrared sauna here is a bit larger than the one at Higher Dose, though a little bit more costly in comparison. read more

Went here with a Groupon for the somadome meditation pod. I was super excited to give this innovative concept a try since I'm into meditation in my free time. I only interacted with one staff member here. The man explained the concept of how it monitors your brain activity as well as how the pod worked. He told me it would be 20 minutes (which I already knew) and explained how to get out of the pod. After his explanation, I was off on my own to experience what the pod was all about. The chair itself was super comfy and cozy. I feel like this pod concept would be great just for taking a nap if people could own one at home. I ended up doing the guided healing meditation. I must admit the woman's voice was a tad annoying. It wasn't as soothing as any other meditation tracks I've listened to at home. The green mood lighting was a cool concept but since my eyes were closed I didn't really see the use for it. Also, it would have been nice if the colors changed maybe throughout. After my 20 mins was over, I did feel relaxed but not as amazing as I thought I would. Perhaps, the annoying voice is what got to me. read more

My partner and I decided to try the halo salt therapy session, since we've read up on this and wanted to see what the hype was all about. Unfortunately, we were unable to set-up a session together as only three people can go in at the same time, and only single slots were available for us on the day and times we were available. We arrive at the location and as soon as the elevator doors open, you enter the waiting room area. The vibe of the space is serene, tranquil and smells really nice, I believe it was lavender aromatic scents throughout the place. The halo salt therapy room was so beautiful, the color alone put me in a tranquil mood and listening to meditative music was soothing to my overall senses. I would definitely return and try the crystal light bed therapy and other therapeutic services as well. read more

Really clean, calm with personable staff that put me at ease! I came here on a whim with classpass and partook in my first Somadome session. The photo of the spaceship warped tanning bed? That is a Somadome, an enlightening meditation experience. I was hesitant at first when I saw the orb and the fluffy "clouds" on the floor but it was truly an incredibly relaxing and resetting 20 minutes. The Somadome offered meditation music (binaural beats, nature) or a guided meditation. I chose the Manifest meditation and when you closed the Somadome, was greeted by bright soothing purple light (think the purple pink your blackberry used to light up). I almost felt like I napped and felt so well rested and present and had no trouble keeping focus after this. read more

If you enjoy meditation, try Modrn Sanctuary. This studio surrounds a Himalayan salt room for the benefits of salt therapy, which is said to balance your pH levels, allow deep hydration, heal muscle cramps and regulate your hormone levels. Modrn Sanctuary aims to help its customers relax with its various meditation rooms and treatments. Modrn Sanctuary actually hopes to work sensory deprivation into its practices through dark decor and natural wood around the studio. Modrn Sanctuary also offers Crystal Light Bed Therapy, which is a meditative experience while surrounded by seven "sensory" crystals that are meant to help you find inner balance. TIPS: 1) I'd leave your personal belongings and even shoes outside the room. I kept mine on a chair and my bag and hat were lightly coated in salt dust. 2) Bring baby towels or wet tissues with you to wipe your feet. They will be also coated in salt. Because you are going to literally walk on salt (cool, right?) 3) they offer free tea or water. It's recommended to stay hydrated. 4) Ask to try different room lights (they have 7 for each chakra. Also an awesome addition;)) instead of a traditional orange(y) color I like the room to be dark blue. It's very pretty and calming. 5) your hair will be also coated. So just prepare yourself. 6) leave some time to hang out at their beautiful lounge area, sip tea and look or shop all their beautiful spiritual goods. The candles with crystals inside blew my mind. read more

I'm your typical #momboss who never ever carves time out for self care really but not today bitches! MS was recommended by a friend of mine months ago. After working straight 7 days 12 hour shifts weeks so this day was much needed and deserved. CBD Face massage was good. Cryo Facial + Cryo Slimming with DiAna; she's such a doll! She was very sweet, personal & all around lovely. I honestly love Cryo Therapy but have only done the chambers in the past. Today was my first time doing a Cryo Facial & Slimming. The experience wasn't painful nor uncomfortable. It was quite relaxing but then again I take cold ass showers so I don't mind the cold. As for results for my mommy pouch I will update when I see the results; she said I can the results in as little as a day so stay tuned! But I did feel the results immediately for my face. It felt lifted and toned. CBD 90 Minute Massage with Iceland was fcuking AHMAAAAAAAAZING! She was so damn good! Her pressure was always consistent and perfect. Her energy was calming & reassuring but assertive. I literally melted into the bed; that's how relaxed I was and trust me I am a very hard person to get to relax. Of course I rebooked with her. So even if I don't get the results I want for my mommy pouch I'll def be returning for massage. read more

Took me a year to write this review but better late than never. This review is for the Scam called "Cryoskin" where they charge you $$$ with zero result. This whole concept of measuring a person before and after the treatment is a BIG scam. I did email them a long time ago but nothing came out of it. Do yourself a favor & don't waste your money on the cryoskin treatment this place is offering. read more

I called to book a facial and meditation session for my partner and myself and was shocked at how unprofessional and rude the front desk person was who answered the call. Hope this improves in the future. read more

My husband and I treated ourselves to massages here and I was pleasantly surprised with the most unique massage experience I've ever had. Omar was an incredible and intuitive therapist who not only offered me relief from everyday tension and stiffness, but also had unbelievable insight. I went the other day with a class pass credit to try the Soma meditation pod. It was 12 credits on class pass (not exactly cheap, most class pass classes are between 3-9 but now they are adding "wellness activities") but thought it would be a nice way of unwinding on a snow day. The space seemed clean and tranquil. Customer service was just so-so. I had to wait a few mins to check in even though there were 2 people at the front desk. Only one was handling customers. On the way out, no one there acknowledged me or said "bye". They didn't mention any of their other features or even offer me a flyer? Where is the customer service when someone is trying out your facility for the first time, duh?! When the desk person showed me where the bathroom and coat area were, they took me back to the pod and gave me a brief instruction how it worked. Then they left me on my own. The meditation session was only 20 mins, which seemed short, not enough time to get comfy. You have the option of guided audio or not and some different topics. I found the voice on there to be slightly annoying compared to other meditation aps, classes I've tried. I would def suggest audio off! The soma pod was fairly straight forward for how to use. Thank goodness there is an airflow setting as with the pod cover down, it could get stuffy. Also it changes colors while you are reclining there with your eyes closed. I found this to be distracting. I thought in booking that the pods would be in their own separate room like the salt room. This facility had only 1 pod and it was literally sitting next to the front desk with a bookshelf in between. I didn't really feel privacy or relaxation. There are many other yoga, centers meditation centers out there in the city, I would not waste a class pass credit let alone $$ to come back for a session here. read more

Good massage, incompetent and nasty front desk person. My wife and I have been going to Modrn Sanctuary for massages over the last 6 months. Each time we try to make or change an appointment we are forced to deal with Elle, a useless, incompetent and rude receptionist. It's ironic because Modrn Sanctuary is supposed to be a place service, wellness and relaxation. I booked 2 massages for myself and my wife and had to adjust the time of one of the massages (for work reasons) and was charged a cancellation fee of $30. Ok, I get it, it is their policy. An hour before the original appointment, my work conflict cleared up so I called the place and my original time slot & masseuse were still available so I ended up getting the massage at the original time. During check-out a different receptionist confirmed the cancellation charge of $30 would be reimbursed since in the end I was there on time. I just checked my credit card statement and the $30 charge is still there. I called Modrn Sanctuary today to ask about reversing the cancellation charge and was "helped" by ELLE. All he could say was "no". When I insisted, he suggested that I send a detailed letter to the manager. I asked to speak to the manager instead and he had excuses as to why the manager sometimes answers calls and sometimes doesn't, very vague and not at all trying to help solve the misunderstanding. The massages were not cheap so we expected better customer service or at least more regard for paying customers. The massage was very good, the masseuse was very good, but unfortunately we will not be returning. Management should really consider finding a more suitable person to work the front desk and phones, I am sure they are losing customers... read more

Decided to treat my partner for a Salt therapy session here at Modrn spa. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was extremely happy with the outcome. The salt therapy was a wonderful relaxing experience, clearing our minds, and breathing passages. I felt calm, nurtured and tranquil. As we left we talked yourself to water infused with rose quartz, which for me gave a special touch to the place. We will be returning for more services there. I didn't have a great experience, I walked in seeking to see what services they offer. Very unprofessional!!! No one was at the Front desk , waited 20 mins until I can find someone to help me. This place has horrible customer service. Finally when I was able to talk to someone, she showed what seem to be a brochure of out dated treatments that's really not effective, fake Reiki services, all around terrible experience the minute I walked through the door. What a waste of my time. Please don't waste your money there. There's nothing modern about this place. I was confused with this Groupon wellness center. My favorite wellness spa in NYC. Nothing but the absolute best and friendly service, top quality modalities for stress relief/self care, and beautiful ambiance. I highly recommend you check it out. The other services like somodome make you feel like you're in a Spaceship upgrading your state of mind. I came to Modrn Sanctuary to use the Salt Room as it was recommended to me as a good therapy to recover from a case of bronchitis. I had medical treatment first, but the cough, phlegm and other symptoms persisted after treatment with antibiotics. The Salt Room was a wonderful and effective therapy! My lungs felt lighter and more elastic after a session and I could breath more deeply and easily. Even my sleep was better and less interrupted by coughing at night after the first session. Plus, I thought the rice was very reasonable. I bought a package of 5 sessions and I felt the Salt Room really helped me recover from bronchitis . I would recommend it !! read more

I used groupons for myself and my bestie for her bday--she loved it! Modrn Sanctuary is beautiful space and they have done a great job of creating zen in crazy busy NYC. The somadome-pretty relaxing I'm sure it's dependent on your meditation track. I personally couldn't tell if 20 mins was too little or just enough but I agree with other yelpers that you may want the guided meditation off. I found that to be helpful The salt room was great. I wish it were a little cooler temp wise but I liked the intimate set up. We'll be back again read more

There is nothing at the "sanctuary" that remotely is connected to the spiritual - it is a bunch of mumbo jumbo. They have expanded their menu to the world of Thermismooth 250 for aesthetics. I discovered a groupon for this device on the web and wanted to try it knowing nothing about the "sanctuary". Quickly I learned that the girl at the desk Vanessa is an aesthetician as well as receptionist and has no idea what she is talking about. One of the organizers Renee D took over to correct what Vanessa stated. Speaking to Renee D was like speaking to someone with no pulse. She offered me the groupon and agreed to give the that price for several future treatments. Later on she changed her mind and denied that she ever said this. Organization and honesty is seriously lacking here. Walking into this place I found the energy dirty and clogged emulating those that work here. There are no standards. Next to the meditation unit is the front desk with Vanessa seated. Suddenly this white bubble opens and out pops someone who is gabbing and raving about her mediation experience. I had no idea if she was a client or staff. She wanders away and Vanessa asks me to sign forms. I sit down waiting for the aesthetician and finally the one that popped out of the bubble is back, comes over to me turns around and starts walking. I asked if she wanted me to follow. She said yes and kept walking. I am in this room with a bed and she tells me to lay down. I ask if she is the one who will be doing the treatment. Again she says yes. I think that this person is not the aesthetician that I requested because she hasn't introduced herself to me and I walk out to speak to Vanessa. I ask Vanessa who this person is and she says her name is Icelean and that is who I requested. So I told Vanessa to bring her back so I can have the treatment. Vanessa replied that she is now working with someone else. This experience blew my mind. The lack of basic social skills and professionalism was mind boggling. I tried to reach out to Renee D but a new person Dani told me that the situation was handled badly. The situation rather then being remedied turned worse. Vanessa and Icelean both have less then 4 months as aestheticians trained on this machine. After the groupon is used the price goes up to $350 per session. If you have a treatment at a dermatologists office with an experienced aesthetician and a doctor running the program this price is acceptable. But at the "sanctuary" we are talking about people with very little experience on this machine, lacking etiquette and giving misinformation regarding anything and everything to do with protocol. My recommendation is to find a spa or dermatologists office that focuses on aesthetics where you can feel that you can trust the aesthetician's competence and professionalism. read more

I recently hurt my back while I was picking up my niece. I thought I had just popped something, but when it was not healing after a week I booked an appointment with Dr. Portera. When I got off the elevator at Modrn Sanctuary, I felt instantly relaxed by the music and the sanctuary ambiance. I checked in and was seen immediately. I got to see the Dr. at my scheduled time and did not have to wait at all. Dr. Portera was very professional and walked me through exactly what he was doing as he realigned my back. He explained where my pain was coming from - inflamed neuron rubbing against my ribcage and a miss placed 1st rib and then he worked his magic. I was able to walk out of his office like a new person and pain free! I returned 4 days later for a follow up. My inflammation had decreased and he completed my alignment. My back has fully healed and I feel great! I would highly recommend going to see Dr. Portera! read more

Highly recommend visiting for the Salt Room yoga classes with Salvador Martinez. First off, the room is absolutely amazing... you are bathed in beautiful, calming pink light the whole time, and you get the full advantages of the halo therapy while you practice. Modern sanctuary is a hidden gem! I've been there twice for the salt room. The elevator takes you to the floor. You will be greeted by a receptionist on the left. Once your signed in, a staff member will lead you to salt room. Prior to entering the salt room, you remove your shoes. I adore this idea. It's so nice to be free from shoes. By the way, it's only 30 mins of your time, it's best to leave you phone with your shoes. Then you enter the salt room and spend 30 mins of pink glow time in zen.
