My mom and I have been coming here for years. I love the water lounge so much. I've always gotten a massage, but I decided to get a deep cleansing facial this time. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed. We talked about some problem areas and where to do extractions. The facial started out promising but it ultimately ended up feeling like I was just having cleanser and one mask put on over and over. The, "extractions," was very light pressure - she even kept apologizing for how much pain I must've been in, which I thought was weird because I was barely feeling anything at all. And I was expecting some pain because I had some issues I was really hoping to get taken care of. However, at the end of the facial when I finally saw my skin, none of those issues were addressed, and you could tell there had been no actual extractions where we discussed, my main problem areas. There were big black heads and white heads that were untouched... really? This cost me $250 just to be disappointed. My skin doesn't look better in any sense. I have no glow, nothing is cleared up, and I still have all of the problems I had going into this. I hate that I was left feeling like this, because I like this spa and my woman was very kind, but at the end of the day I got up charged for the most basic, non deep cleansing facial I've ever had. I'm left feeling gross and robbed. Trying my best not to spiral and do the extractions myself, but it's really upsetting I didn't get the care and skin help I was looking for. read more

I'm not sure how I feel about Great Jones Spa. On one hand, I enjoyed my massage and on the other hand, I'm a little grossed out by the facilities. I got the signature massage for 60 minutes which was good, not great. This might just be my own fault for underplaying the pressure level. My massage therapist used a hot stone which felt like heaven. However, he was very noisy while moving the blanket around and seemed to be in a rush to get it over with. Onto the not so great parts - the facilities are not clean to say the least. Hair in the shower drains, two showers only, there was what looked like lint and dust in the jacuzzi. I found myself subconsciously comparing my experience here with my experiences at my favorite spa in the city, Aire. But given that Aire is undergoing renovations, Great Jones appeared to be a good alternative going in. I'm not quite sure I will go back. read more

Truly wonderful experience at Great Jones Spa! Fabulous location, incredible staff, and a relaxing getaway from the chilly NYC winter. As a disclaimer, I did not receive a service during my time visiting the spa. I paid $70 for the water lounge which includes cold plunge, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi. It's in a nice atmosphere to relax in for two hours with complimentary tea and light snacks. It was My first time doing a true cold plunge and I absolutely loved it. The sauna is perfectly hot and the jacuzzi is a nice place to unwind. I will say that booking this in the morning is the move! I had ample space to myself but it does get busier as you move into the afternoon. Compared to other day spas I've been to, this doesn't really scream luxury / sanctuary, but I feel it's reasonable for the price. A massive shoutout to the staff here who let me stow my bag while I went and grabbed lunch. Overall, a great clean spa to unwind and relax. read more

One of the most overrated spas that I felt like I absolutely wasted my money on. Here's what you need to know: 1. This place is not clean. Dust and dirt everywhere.. which does not make for a relaxing environment. 2. Crowded and people are splashing around. It wasn't peaceful and made it feel like you were at an adult water park. 3. Service was not good. The massage was subpar and it was nowhere near as good as other places nearby or a place in Chinatown. 4. Not worth any of the price tags. You're better off finding something on Groupon or paying up for a high end. Skip it if you can. read more

Alright, I never write reviews but my experience at GJS has compelled me to do so. Let's start with what I liked: -Pretty facilities -The water lounge was great Onto what I didn't: I was given a gift card for GJS and wanted to treat myself to a mani / pedi ahead of my birthday. I arrived on time and was given a brief tour of the facilities by someone at the front desk. My plan was to put my stuff down in a locker, change into a robe, and then head upstairs for my manicure, after which I would grab my book from my locker and relax in the water lounge. Before I could do so, I was intercepted by the nail tech who said she needed to bring me upstairs right then. She told me she was on a *very* tight schedule (not my problem) and that I could leave my stuff upstairs while getting my manicure. I told her I was hoping to change and use the water lounge, to which she replied that she would grab me a robe and I could get changed upstairs. Frankly -- I was uncomfortable with this. I was hoping to organize my locker so I could easily grab my book with damp nails without ruining them, and preferred to have my items locked up. I got changed in the waxing room and when the nail tech returned I told her I really would feel more comfortable putting my stuff in a locker. She was visibly annoyed at me. She then grabbed my hand to look at my nails and said, "Do you even need to get your nails done? These look perfect." Yes, I had polish on my nails, but it was a hastily done home manicure that was chipped -- meant to hold me over until my appointment that Friday. Even if I got my nails done the day prior, it should not matter! I am here for a service. I informed the nail tech that I would be moving forward with my appointment. Again, she seemed annoyed. I put my stuff in a locker and came back up for my appointment. We started with the pedicure, which was fine. I booked the "Coconut Paradise" mani / pedi which included a sugar scrub -- incredibly overpriced as just the scrub bumped the appointment up to $109 before tip. As the nail tech was exfoliating my feet, the metal piece of the tool fell off and skin went *everywhere.* It was really repulsive and because the nail tech was the only person there she just had to leave it. Onto the manicure, which was truly the icing on the cake of this horrible experience. My nails were filed SO oddly -- every nail is a different shape. What's more is that she opted to cut one of my thumbnails but not the other, so they ended up as two completely different lengths. The manicure HURT -- I have never had my nails bent to the degree that they were bent during t his manicure. The polish application was, by far, the worst i have ever had. The nail polish was barely shiny, uneven, and SOOOOOO BUBBLY. I chose OPI brand nailpolish but the tech used some sort of nail hardener underneath and a likely thinned out top coat which may have caused the bubbling. I am not the greatest at doing my own nails, but I genuinely could have done a better job. She then forced me to sit for 20 minutes to dry my nails so that she "doesn't have to redo them" if I "ruin them" by the water lounge. Honey -- they were already ruined. My cuticles were covered in polish as well. Luckily I chose a polish color that I owned a similar color to at home, so i was able to go over the color with that + another layer of topcoat to remove the awful look. I will absolutely not be returning and I recommend you look elsewhere for a manicure. read more

I went to Great Jones Spa for my birthday. I had a lot of questions to figure out how it worked before going and the two males I spoke to were very friendly and informative. The female was less helpful- seemed to begrudge the questions and answer in clipped monosyllabic answers. I found out you literally don't need to bring anything to the spa, but a bathing suit is recommended. If you book a treatment you get the water lounge free for two hours. You can also book the water lounge without booking a treatment and I'm not sure of that price. The locker rooms are fully equipped with anything you could possibly need including built-in locks. I had forgotten my brush and they even had clean sanitized brushes available. They give you robes, slippers, and towels. The products were good. The only problem was that the changing room was very dark and it was hard to see the numbers on my lock in order to set it and unlock it. The water lounge was peaceful. It could have used more lounge chairs. They had a nice array of snacks teas, and water. The cold plunge lived up to its name- too cold for me but my friend went fully in and loved it The sauna was very hot, requiring showering before entering. The steam room was just perfect! The jacuzzi was a little tepid- should have cooled off after the steam room before going in. I had a exfoliating treatment with Nick. I had never had one before. Nick was very sensitive and responsive to my body needs. It began with a massage that was quite heavenly. I can't say I really liked the exfoliating treatment. It wasn't relaxing and it didn't give me the results I expected. My skin was dry later in the day rather than smooth and I think they should have emphasized putting lots of lotion on afterwards. They used to do the exfoliating treatment with water so the scrub was rinsed off but they no longer do this so you keep it on and put on your robe and to rinse it off in the shower in the locker room. If you've ever had a Hamam this would be a very disappointing experience. My friend had a facial which she thought was very good and enjoyed. I would definitely go back and try another type of treatment. They certainly are not cheap but with the two hour water lounge included it's a nice splurge on oneself! read more

Pretty, aesthetic space but very small. Expected, given that it is in the SoHo area. Found out about this spot when the day pass was $56. However, price increased to $70 (for 2 hours). Compared to other day spas in the city, it is slightly cheaper. However, the communal space is small: one steam room (~117 degrees) one sauna room (~177 degrees), one cold tub, one hot tub. As for the women's locker/shower room, it was also very small: two shower stalls and two bathroom stalls. A bunch of lockers were confined in a space that was approximately 10 ft x 5 ft. Although the space was very small, I must say that they kept up with cleaning up very well. They also kept amenities fully stocked: a fully-stocked tea selection, snacks in wax paper bags (pita chip, walnuts, almonds, veggie straws, and dried cranberries), clementines, and hershey's nugget chocolates. Was nice visiting but I can't for-see myself dropping by just for the day spa again. read more

We had an incredible experience at GJS! My friend and I had a ladies weekend and came during the day for a facial. We used the amenities prior to getting the facial. They have a steam room, sauna, plunge pool and jacuzzi. We loved alternating between everything. They also has little snacks and beverages. The water pass is included when you purchase a service. The locker room was nice and it had a fresh robe and sandals for us. Our facial was amazing! I ended up getting the deep cleanse which hydrated and gently exfoliated my skin. I can't review Great Jones Spa through their feedback without signing into a google account so I am reviewing here to warn others. First off, I've loved the spa in the past, I've been going regularly for 20+ years with great massages and lovely staff. yesterday, I had a wonderful massage and was excited to have the jacuzzi to myself since it was empty. but as I was getting dressed afterwards, I saw black mold on the walls of my massage room. I showed it to and warned the massage therapist and also spoke to the manager after. she said the water damage was new and her staff's safety was her priority but didn't actually apologize or even offer to comp my massage after. I found that to be highly insulting especially as a long time client. since my safety is MY priority I just hightailed it out of there but I would advise any others going to check for water damage and moldy conditions before proceeding with your treatments. read more

I came here to celebrate my birthday belatedly with some relaxation. From the moment I arrived it was disappointing--a cold and unfriendly receptionist who barely showed me around and made me feel like I was inconveniencing him. The locker room was packed and hard to access anything with so many people. The line to use the toilet was very long as there are only two toilets. The water area is packed and tiny. People were talking nonstop in the sauna and steam room so it was not relaxing. I waited for my facial where I was told to wait only to realize I was in the wrong spot (the massage section). No one bothered to look for me so by the time I realized on my own it was late. Then the facialist up sold me immediately and convinced me to splurge on a hydrafacial (I was booked for a signature). I relented, which I regret. The results were not impressive and she didn't massage my head or neck (I've never had a facial that didn't include a few minutes of massage). I got no lotion on my hands. The whole thing was not relaxing, extremely expensive and not impressive. read more

I was there to get a deep tissue massage, I arrived on time but I had to wait to check - in and 3 front desk persons were busy assisting someone else. It took 10 min to get in but the the massage therapist didn't know my name. And she had to run up to confirm, and I had only 45 min left from 1 hr of my massage. I told the therapist ( Claire) that it's not my responsibility and she had to confirm with her supervisor... In the end I had one hour "deep tissue" massage which was nothing like it. She was just rubbing me, doing some sort of acupressure, without massaging the knotty spots, it was a waste of time and money. I'm glad at least I could use their sauna and cold plunge. read more

Robes and slippers were provided in the shower-equipped locker rooms, all I had to bring was my bathing suit and everything else was taken care of. Tall fixtures where water ran down made for a soothing ambience, maximizing the serenity and rising cheer as I got into each room/pool. The sauna, my favorite, was set perfectly for an endurable sweat (or shvitz) until I was ready to treat myself to more relaxation. The fellow spa-goers I crossed paths with were so kind and friendly, too. Even the fruit and salty snacks hit the spot for a quick recharge. I love this place so much. NYC has its fair share of Russian style banyas (miss you, Russian Turkish!) and fancy spas (hi, Aire!) but GJS hits the sweet spot between the two - relaxed and affordable enough to make a trip there a semi-regular thing, but clean and well-appointed with enough spa amenities to make it feel like a treat. I love relaxing in the water lounge - the constantly-replenished rotation of little snacks like raw almonds, pretzels and tangerines is a nice touch. The sauna, steamroom and cold plunge could all be a bit more extreme, temperature wise, but this is coming from a Russian woman who LOVES an ice-cold plunge and a blistering hot sauna, so YMMV. Lastly, shoutout to my girl Cheryl, who gives a facial that's so excellent that I've started seeing her on a monthly basis.
