What a great find on Maple! After La Thai closed my son and I have been going here quite regularly. Everyone I take here truly loves it. This is probably our favorite in the city. The Pad Kee Mow (aka Drunken noodles) is truly amazing - and when you ask for "Thai Hot" it IS THAI HOT! Yes!! Haven't had a single thing we didn't like or love. The Thai fried rice is simply the best in NOLA. Took my buddy who recently moved to town and is married to a Thai girl and said he couldn't wait to take her there it was so good. And she loved it. This restaurant is an incredible place. The service can be slow but it feels fine if you know what you want and order quickly. The staff is friendly and methodical. The food is really spectacular and unique. The tofu is soft unlike every other restaurant out there where the tofu is overly firm and dried out. Went to Chill Out Cafe because of a friend's high recommendation! Glad we had the chance to enjoy their great food! As Chinese who grew up in Hong Kong for 15 years, I am always fond of any food that is Asian-related. May it be Japanese, Korean, or Indian cuisine. I tend it enjoy them all. This establishment happened to be a Thai restaurant. We went there to enjoy the mostly classic Thai dishes, like sweet mango rice and green curry etc. If you see my posts, I tend to describe many Asian restaurants as generic. This is far from it. Why is a thai restaurant called chill out cafe? Who knows...but i did really enjoy my lunch here. A coworker recommended them to me. Took a group lunch here and was not disappointed. Very small place but our group of 5 was comfortably seated. Nicely decorated. They offer thai for lunch and American breakfast..odd combo but hey its Nola. They do not serve alcohol..bummer. their menu offers tons of delicious options but im a sucker for pad thai so i opted for this with shrimp. Service was a bit slow but my meal was delicious. There is no assigned parking. There is outdoor seating as well. Will definitiely return to try some other options. read more

Thought that they closed at 9:00 and I called just after 8:30 to place my order and the woman was really nice on the phone. When we got there to pick up, the sign on the front said that they close at 8:30 right now- it was so nice of them to take our order without even mentioning that it was past their posted hours. Yellow fried rice was really flavorful with curry powder, fresh pineapple, shrimp and chicken. Pad see ew (drunken noodles) were also really good- not too sweet. I don't understand the rave reviews. The wait for our food was very long even though hardly anyone there. I assume they don't make soup from scratch- so even just bringing that out would have helped. The food was fresh but lackluster. I knew there was a problem when there was no mention of spice level. Asked for srichaca because the food was so bland. I'm sad to write this because this place used to be my favorite Thai restaurant in my neighborhood. I was shocked to see the price per serving was small and the Tom Kha wasn't flavorful. I had for Thai medium hot and I had to add spice to the base for it to have some flavor. I asked for extra cilantro and they only added two leaves to my dish. It was expensive for a large which only made a pint of soup and in other Thai restaurants their soup is usually a quart. I wish them the best but I probably won't be coming here for a while since their quality has degraded since I first moved here. read more

My youngest and I were hunting for lunch on Maple recently and came across Chill Out. First things first - great location. I love this area and I'm a sucker for an old house-turned-restaurant. We were told to sit wherever in the smallish dining room, and so we picked a table and took a seat. The waitress came by pretty soon after to take our order - drinks and all. Our food took a few minutes, but I get it. It was sort of crowded and there was only the one employee on duty outside of the kitchen. Our food finally arrived and here's how it went: We started with the chicken satay and summer rolls. The chicken satay was tasty and the pieces of chicken were large and tender. The Summer rolls were just meh. I had the house salad with grilled chicken. The salad was huge, the chicken was plump and juicy, the dressing was creamy and sweet, everything was very flavorful. Thumbs up. My daughter had the pad Thai. It was good, but unfortunately, not the best pad Thai either of us had tasted. It was a huge portion though. I really want to come back here to try the pad Thai. That's what my friend had and it looked stupendous. I'm curious about their breakfast plates as well, but I'd almost feel guilty ordering greasy American eggs and pancakes at a Thai place. What I did try was the ginger lunch special with tofu and veggies and it was very tasty. It comes with salad and a fried spring roll, and I left full and happy. We stopped in on Christmas Eve looking for lunch. All of the tables outside were dirty so we ventured inside. Once inside there were five tables with customers. Only one of them had their food, the others were waiting. We sat our selves, waited about 15 minutes, went to get menus ourselves, and waited again. After overhearing two other tables inquire about their food due to being there over an hour we decided to give it five more minutes. After not even getting water we got up and left. Unfortunately I cannot rate this establishment based on their food. However; the service was horrendous. There appeared to be one cook and one waitress in the entire restaurant. The waitress was at the front messing around with what looked to be receipts The entire time. We were not greeted, not assisted, and not even given a menu to look over. As frequent visitors to New Orleans, we will not be back. I don't recommend checking out this restaurant unless you have several hours to wait. read more

Visited this place after class because of its proximity to Tulane campus. We sat outside on the porch and the service was extremely fast. I ordered the veggie green curry and the other person in my party ordered the fried rice which came with a combination of beef, chicken and shrimp. There was only one shrimp in his fried rice but he liked it anyways! I also liked the curry, and I got a side of chills to make it as spicy as I wanted. They sometimes have a softshell crab pad thai which is good, but it's a special so it's pricier & not always available. The food is pretty consistent but also pretty standard and not amazing compared to other Thai food I've had. 3.5 stars but bumped up to a 4 for yelp. read more

I was in the area picking up an item from another business & decided to stop here for dinner - it was a beautiful day in New Orleans & the porch dining looked wonderful ... that's where the 2 stars come from because all else was not worth the extremely high $ prices ! 3 items I asked about they were "out of" so I settled on their Salmon meal - it did say broccoli in the ingredients & I asked if they could replace that with some other veggie like bean sprouts & waitress said "sure". Meal also included a side salad & clear soup - which are nothing like the pics here ! Side salads was 3 pieces of WHITE lettuce & some orange dressing ... clear soup was exactly that just some kind of clear broth with no taste whatsoever so not dishwater & 2 slices of green onion floating on top. Plate arrived with way too much sticky cold rice, two shrimp, the smallest piece of salmon I've ever sean & no broccoli which is what I asked for but also no substitute veggie ... waitress puts bowls & plates down & then runs off ... when she came back out for other table (only me & 3 other people at other table in the entire restaurant) I asked about substitute veggie & she came back with a small bowl of uncooked bean sprouts! Since she immediately took away my menu after ordering meal, I have no idea if they had desserts & was never offered any ... I paid the extremely overpriced bill & included tip since I was served not buffet but I will definitely not be returning ... Money is tight for everyone & I work extremely hard for mine ... Absolutely love this place! As a Thai Restaurant lover that lives in the area, this is my go-to restaurant! They have a lovely outdoor seating (limited) but lovely nonetheless. I tend to judge a Thai restaurant by their Pad Thai, and this place has a damn good one! I also enjoy their Fried Tofu and Chicken Satay as an appetizer! I also really like the "Thai Basil", you can add whatever protein you like. I personally like to add Shrimp. Overall, this is a place that I keep coming back to! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. My partner and I just left this place after waiting over an hour for our food. All of the people who came 30-40 minutes after us received their food immediately. We ordered a hot and sour soup and fresh rolls for an appetizer, and noodles for our entree. Once we ordered she said it would be a 30 min wait, which we were fine with. After notifying the waitress that we had not received any food 45 minutes in, she said it was coming out. While other tables ate and finished their entrees, we had not received our appetizers. Everyone needs to chill out because this place is terrible. I placed an order for takeout for Sunday lunch, and the place my orders in Styrofoam containers. This would normally be totally fine, besides the fact that I got curry, and liquid typically does not stay well in containers that don't close. I used to come here often when I went to school at XULA. It's been about 5 years and I've finally come back. BBQ ribs - comes with 3 pretty nicely sized ribs. My bf really liked this, but i thought it was dry. The flavor was good though. Papaya salad - I asked for this spicy. It came out not spicy. I think she thought I just believed I could eat spicy but actually can't. Lol. Anyway. She brought out the peppers and some chili flakes. And bam! Delicious. I am more accustomed to Laos papaya salad. So this was a more refreshing, sour taste. Drunken noodles - noodles, chicken, and a few pieces of veggies. It looks like a boring dish when it comes out because it is. Basil stir fry w/ chicken and tofu - I don't even f**king know wtf this was. So gross. Everyone's review on this was so good that I had to order, but there must have been a different cook or y'all lied! I love this everywhere I go! But this was the biggest disappointment. We took one bite and just let it sit. Tom yum soup w/ shrimp (Sm - $8, Lg - $11) - omg. So much flavor so delicious. We loved it so much we ordered to go. And that's where it all went so wrong. At the restaurant, there were mushrooms in it and had at least 4 shrimp in a small. My to go had no mushrooms, no flavor, and 3 shrimp for a large! Wtf! Y'all cheated me! Y'all tricked me! Anyway.
