We've frequented this chilis once or twice a month for many years. However today was our absolute last visit as my poor aunt found a large cockroach floating in her drink AFTER she had been drinking it for a good 20 - 30 minutes. Upon arrival at 820p there was an approx wait given for 45 minutes. It was late so we decided to wait. At approx 910 the hostess informed us the kitchen was backed up and the wait would be longer. I requested to be seated and didn't mind the wait. The hostess was professional and sweet and sat us down herself and got us our drinks. The waitress finally came over 940 and we were able to order appetizer but also informed us that they would be closing in 20 minutes. I was a little shocked at the rush after we're patiently waited however I imagine it wasn't here fault. They were all very sweet and we were able And never once rushed us. The food was DELICIOUS! We were a group of 7 so we had several appetizers and drinks to start. The strawberry margarita on the rocks was great for the price. My daughter ordered a root beer and came in an old fashion glass which was cute. Her and I both ordered the Cajun shrimp Pasta and it was made fresh and served hot. It was a good choice. My partner ordered an Alex burger and it looked delicious. He stated it was good as well. All for a good price. Hobbs NM Chilis 4/23/2023 time of visit 7pm Not busy at all E.coli on a plate. Tonight was the worst visit to chilis. The hostess acknowledged me and my family party of four after thirty minutes. There was a three parties before me that waited for 1hr and 20 mins but was dumbfounded to the long wait when the whole bar side room, including the tables where empty. That should have been the first red flag. So my first thought maybe they are short staffed ( nope). So after awhile my family was seated by the bartender. After a while I tried asking her questions but she ignored me. Several times. {side note : I am a former sever. I always do my best to clean up after and treat people with kindness.) I thought maybe it was her stressed. But then came the order. My plate was still frozen. (I made three attempts to grab her attention. Not including my attempts to grab other severs attention) There was another issue with my compainion's stake when he cut into the ribeye it was GREEN. Not once did the server paused to ask how is your meals. (or the routine question was the stake to your liking? nor any pause of how the stake was nor a1 sauce anyone? none of that. Our server brushed us off.) I literally had to fight for my server's attention. I asked for help and tried to get the attention of the manager while she was two booths away from me begging ( along with other servers) literally begged a former co-worker to come back to work at chilis this should be telling that this is why he left. I got someone else's attention another server took back my cajin pasta three times. My server acknowledge me once and took back the plate one time and retruned it cold. I made several attempts to address my companion's stake SHE instantly left and didnt give me a chance to mention his rib eye steak when he cut into it was green!!! My family and I swore off chilis as of tonight. Not even an hour after this visit i ended up in the emergency room. I asked several times for a new plate but i got other servers who were new and didn't know what to do. Never again and the sever still charged me the full price of $80. This happened to night. I came here twice and overall the experience was good. The first time I ordered online however the site told me the ordering system didn't work so I ended up calling and pick it up. The second time, I ordered online however I didn't see a promo code for free chips until after I was done. I paid in store both times and they were pretty quick with getting my order fixed up. It takes about 15-20 minutes after you place your order for it to be ready. Both times - I ordered their lunch special - turkey sandwich with fries, and a salad. The first time, they gave me a salad that was huge. The second time, they gave me a salad that was in the soup cup and also forgot my fries. I usually like doing take out and pick up myself since I know what I ordered and can check. I asked her about the fries, and she gave me a box to go. Service overall is pretty quick, however you have to make sure they have your order correct. They are pretty busy around lunch time. Usually when I walk in the bar is loaded with people. I have yet to eat in the restaurant to experience the service, however based on my two take out experiences, I would say this place is not as bad as the 2 star ratings it has on yelp. My, how things change in eleven years. Yet some things stay the same. With the fourth of July marking BBQ season, as in ribs, brisket, etc., I remembered enjoying the ribs and that wonderful song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTDLh7gNRYA). So I convinced my brother to order our recent Saturday dinner for the family here. In studying the menu, I was amazed how the menu expanded since my last visit here, likely close to eight or nine years ago. So an update is more than overdue. Not comfortable placing an online order as I remember how busy this location gets, I called midafternoon to place my 5:30 pm pickup order. I still had to wait on hold a short while as I was transferred to the right person for this. After driving here from the City (we need more good BBQ places in SF), I found a parking space near the bank and walked over to the side entrance. A clearly marked sign pointed me to the takeout counter that they likely set up after the Covid mandates. Only then did I notice there are two spaces specifically marked for takeout customers right by the door. There were three guys ahead of me in line so I waited my turn; there is a bench right outside the door if you are weary of standing. The order expediter seemed a bit flustered and scattered as he seemed overwhelmed in getting orders out and accepting walk up orders. Long story short, I waited about ten minutes including the line wait to get my food and headed home. As for the food, let's just say, for the price and amount of food, I could afford to eat here everyday. I ordered three things that I would spread over two and a half meals, dinner and side dishes for weekday dinners. The brisket was interesting as it sat on a half piece of garlic toast, the other half was served separately. I enjoyed the sausage as it was a very mild spicy jalapeno which meshed well with the cheese bits. The fries were nicely done, still a little warmer than just warm and the street corn gave the meal a nice flavor contrast too. I had a bite before dinner of the chili just to get a taste of it while fresh and found it to be salty. I reheated it in a pot on our stovetop under low heat until is was smoking hot, adding the cheese and tortilla toppings and letting them melt and warm. It was not as salty as the first day but I forgot that it does not have beans so the only texture and flavor contrast from the meat are the cheese and tortilla strips. My other family members tried the smokehouse combo too as well as the new crispy chicken items with every meal becoming a 2nd meal for each of them due to the portion sizes. For the price, it is a deal and, in signing up to be a 'club member' online, I received several promotional discounts for my next visit there. For dine in, there was a line of people waiting inside on the bench area as well as customers in their cars in the parking lot. Not sure whether they using a buzzer paging unit or not. Please be patient as there are quite a number of customers both dining there and taking food out as the servers were hustling and bustling in and out of the kitchen. One suggestion, for the takeout counter, please find a system where a manager doesn't have to sign off or check in to release orders as part of my wait time was due to this issue. The two chicken salads we ordered were very fresh, and the Crispy Quesadilla and the Chipotle Bowl were fresh and hot when brought to our table. Service was really slow and the ordering process made no sense. If I was going to order the "3 for Me" that included a drink, why would our drink orders be taken first? Wouldn't it just be easier if you took each person's order, instead of taking orders for the drinks, then the starters, then the entrees?? It just made no sense at all. One person's food came out before everyone else's and by the time they finished their meal, the rest were still waiting. Our drink order did not come out and we were missing half our drinks and were never offered a refill; the table was missing condiments and the person that brought out the food told us to ask the waitress that took our order.
