Keep in mind I have had plenty of Tex Mex food in California, Arizona, and Texas... this place does not measure up. I ordered the number 3 combo (two tacos and two enchiladas) and it was just horrible. The rice and beans were not cooked from scratch, there were no veggies (no lettuce for shucks sakes!), they did the thing I absolutely hate the most...using the same meats and incorporating it by adding it into a separate dish). The enchiladas had zero sauce inside and the chicken was dry and flavorless. Excessive amounts of an all items but the dry rice. I like cheese but the cheese was over kill. What can I say? I really did try to like the food here. I would not recommend this place.

Food 4.75/5 Service 4.5/5…read moreAmbiance 4/5 As a Texan myself, I'm fully aware of what great Tex-Mex tastes like - and Arod's is the first (and maybe only) place in Madison that I feel like delivers. The meat is seasoned beautifully, and the tortillas themselves were fried til crispy - and it's clear they were fried fresh. The rice and beans were no slouch either - everything reminded me of home. Arod's is otherwise a quaint and quiet store, with a skeleton crew running it both times I was there (and just the owner the first time). They haven't let me down - and I know I'll keep being a regular every time I'm in the area.

The brisket was better than the pork. The only thing I wished was that I wanted it to be more smoky. The barbecue pork was decent, but I would definitely want to try the ribs during the weekend. He was very nice and very accommodating and added in some sweet pickled jalapeños, which were phenomenal. The brisket sandwich was definitely a good hit. Had the coleslaw and mac & cheese...and that was not bad at all!Had a little bit more mayo than expected with a tad of vinegar, which was OK. Overall, it was a very good lunch/dinner. (by the way, I liked the Kansas City better than the Texas but Texas sauce was also very good! They make their own homemade sauce by the way ) Nick was a great conversational piece and they are going to be starting with a food truck pretty soon which is gonna be pretty neat. He does take a lot of pride in his work, and it shows! So I guess keep an eye open for that. Nice job, Nick. I'll give you the next star an update this review once I have your ribs. Is that a Deal? We had a good time here, but the food left me a bit disappointed…read more We were warmly welcomed, seated right away, service was great. I opted for a couple tacos, chicken and chorizo. I love chorizo. So much. And I was excited about that one the most. But I was surprised when it came...it was certainly sausage-y. But it tasted....sweet? Like breakfast sausage. Or Cincinnati-style/Skyline chili. Not Mexican food, street taco chorizo. With the traditional toppings (and the Wisconsin-style taco toppings) the flavor, which I didn't like anyway, became actively bad. I can only assume this is they type of chorizo they order, but it was so bad on my taste buds. The chicken was ok, but the strangeness of the other taco made it entirely unmemorable. We got some adult beverages which were very tasty, and for an upcharge I got some sour cream that I used to make the rest of my plate in to a bit of a meal-filler because I couldn't finish that taco... So overall, it was fine. But I don't know if I would choose to come back here, but I am sure I could find something else on the menu to get me through.

Maybe because this location is kind of tucked away in a Verona residential neighborhood? It's a nice new space, great decor, and amazing back patio area. It was so nice sitting outside on the patio. The staff were attentive and very nice. I have been to many locations over the past years, even back to their Monroe Street days. This has always been one of my fav restaurants but I haven't gone recently and have never been to this location. Their chips are the best ever. We of course started with chips and salsa. I thought their salsa was just ok but the chips were incredible as always. I had my go-to order, chicken quesadillas. Not as good as they have been in the past. They do always have great rice and bean. I thought my meal was just ok overall. I would love to come back for dinner and maybe try something else on the menu.

When we got there, we ended up waiting another 30 minutes past the pickup time just to get our food. I understand it was Cinco de Mayo and things get busy but that's exactly why it's frustrating. If you know it's going to be that chaotic, why accept online orders without being prepared to handle them? It felt disorganized and poorly managed. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the wait. It was underwhelming at best. They gave us free desserts as an apology, but even that missed the mark, the Scotcheroo was dry, bland, and tasted almost stale. Between the long wait, lack of preparation, and disappointing food, this wasn't a good experience. I won't be coming back.

Once they opened the Hilldale location, it became a regular place for me to grab lunch from due to proximity to my office. The Verona location is about the same size as the Hilldale location was, and it's definitely got a cute vibe. When I stopped in a few weeks ago, I ordered my old tried and true - the chicken quesadilla. This used to be my favorite quesadilla around, because cubed meat disgusts me, and Pasqual's is one of the few places I've ever found that uses pulled chicken. The flavor just wasn't what I remembered, it was rather bland, despite the peppers and the hot salsa. The rice was pretty dry, and also lacked flavor. The chips are still fire though - that seasoning dust on them just really kicks it up a notch! Huge fan of those, and I'm glad you can buy them in the store. Maybe it was just a one off, but I am not sure I will be making my way back soon.

Stopped by with my friend and we sat at the bar for a meal and drink. We tried a few of their…read moreclassic sides and chicken fajitas, and overall there were some really good flavors throughout the meal. Most of the ingredients tasted fresh, too. The beans were soft, warm, and flavorful, with a subtle smoky, almost bacon-like flavor that gave them some extra depth without being overpowering. The rice had a good blend of seasoning and spices, and you could taste the flavor throughout. The only downside was that it was a little on the tougher side and could have been softer and more moist. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the vegetables tasted fresh. This was one of my favorite parts of the meal because everything came together nicely. The salsa was really good and wasn't overly spicy. It wasn't your typical tomato-heavy salsa either. It had a bolder roasted and smoky flavor with a little kick. It had enough spice to give it some character without being overwhelming. The tortillas were a good size and easy to eat. They had that authentic-style tortilla flavor I enjoy, although they were a little bland on their own and could have used a touch more seasoning. The chips were fresh, thin, and crispy, exactly how I like them. They had a great crunch and paired really well with the salsa. The El Jefe was definitely one of the more fun drinks. It comes with Exotico Reposado, Ancho Reyes, and their agave house sour, with a salt and pepper rim. The tequila is served separately, so you get to shake and pour it yourself at the table. I liked that little interactive touch, and the drink had a nice balance of sweet, citrusy, and a little smoky heat from the Ancho Reyes. I also tried their espresso martini. Perfect blend of tequila and coffee. Both drinks were flavorful and worth trying if you like cocktails with a little something extra. The service was okay overall. Our waiter did come by to take our drink and food orders and checked on us when needed, but he didn't seem quite as attentive as I would have liked. It seemed like he was also focused on getting some of his closing tasks done, so there wasn't much extra check-in throughout the meal when I wanted to order my second drink. That said, we still got everything we needed, so I'd describe the service as okay. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and drinks. A couple of things could have been a little better, but there were enough good flavors that I'd be open to coming back and trying more from the menu.
