1st to review - brand new Mexican restaurant in Waunakee. Walk downstairs to a wide open and clean restaurant with a full bar. Went for a work lunch for 8 people and service was fast and friendly. Multi-color chips seemed store bought and not freshly made in house. Large menu with a variety of food. A few tweaks to be made (carnitas over cooked) but a solid new choice for lunch or dinner

Chicken burrito (I don't eat dairy--so picture it with cheese and sour cream)! Plenty of chicken and the tortilla was exceptional!

We looked over the menu and decided to try it. We were not disappointed! They seated us immediately (I did make a reservation), and Alex, our server, greeted us right away. Her tableside presentation was great, and her menu knowledge spot on. The food was delivered hot and precise (I'm guessing they use position numbers), and Alex did her check back to make sure everything was correct. The chef and staff did a wonderful job. Each of our choices was delicious. My son's favorite fish is salmon, and the cedar plank preparation hit the spot. My lovely bride wanted comfort food on a cold winter night, and the beef stroganoff filled that request nicely. I had their Catch of the Week, and I'm very happy I could get a really good cioppino in the Midwest. It gave this native Californian a nice taste of home. We visited the Waunakee location, and plan to return often. Thanks for the experience. Buck & Honey's!

Given this, service was a bit slower but at least we got seated right away without reservations at 8pm. Cool outdoor patio. I thoroughly enjoyed everything I got. Spicy ahi tuna bites - crispy and flavorful. SPICY! Those Serrano peppers are packing heat! Also sweet. Clam chowder - not over salted, maybe could've used a little less potatoes. The cup size was plenty to share for an app between two. Tenderloin/romaine - I love bleu cheese so this was perfect. Three pieces of tenderloin, could have been salted a little bit more if standalone but honestly with the accompaniment of blue cheese dressing, it's better that they didn't. The polenta was I don't know, that might've been my favorite part. I left so stuffed.

I left hubby with no option other than stopping for lunch or at least ordering some food to go. I lived in Kansas as a teenager and fondly remember discovering bierocks and later making them for my own family. I wish we were locals because not only are the bierocks good, but this place has a fun vibe that would definitely bring us back. It was a game day when we stopped, and there was a fair crowd cheering on their favorite Wisconsin team. We ordered a Classic with Bavarian seasoning and a Rosemary Lamb Bierock to go along with some jalapeño poppers. I really enjoyed the Classic with the additional seasoning. It gave it an added boost of flavor. My husband was pleased with the Rosemary Lamb. Each came with chips and a pickle. Next time, I hope we can stop in and stay for a cocktail or craft beer as well.

Place was not busy and our order was messed up -- ingredients and sides weren't correct or were missing -- which is the reason for 3 stars. We did get comped one meal due to the fact that an entire meal for our son wasn't made and we had to wait another 15 minutes for it to be cooked. Overall, I'd like to try this place again to see if it can regain some stars and my confidence in the service.

Of course there was a Taco Bell close to the exit from I-90, but that wasn't going to cut it. So, we found El Alegre about two miles into town. The place was packed Well, we had a very good meal with happy service. A big sign on the wall in the kitchen said "work hard and be nice to people ". Gotta love that. So we were coming South on I-90 and remembered El Alegre. Being vegetarian, I usually find plenty of options in a Mexican restaurant (and also Chinese and Italian). This menu had a vegetarian section with about six or seven choices, but I looked over the rest of the very large menu and found several versions of Chile Relleño. I've never seen anything but the one stuffed with cheese anywhere else. Well, they had a version stuffed with vegetables! I had to try it. I am so glad I did. It was delicious and a very generous portion served with rice and beans that rose above the standard usually experienced. My wife had a shrimp dish that I sampled and loved. She said the margaritas were also excellent. So, if you find yourself on I-90, you won't regret driving a couple miles off the highway to find El Alegre!

Ample space in the bar area and dining room as well. We were seated in a booth but conversation was problematic so asked to switch to a table. The staff was very accommodating. Service was great and the Friday fish fry very good. We had both panko and batter-fried Walleye and slightly preferred the battered version. I'm generally not a French fry person but did love their version. But I cannot tell you how loud the place was! A sign of a good Friday night crowd I suppose, but we practically had to yell across the table to be heard. I am not exaggerating. I'm not sure what can be done to absorb some of the noise but our party of four will not be returning.
