We had a blast playing with a baby at the bar and my Coke was great. From the bar we entered the dining area- just past the bar- and since there was no one there to sit us we just sat down. We joined a table of friends who were finishing their meal, as there were open chairs at their table which was next to an open table for two. The waitress came over. We said "hi" and asked to place our dinner order, start a separate check so our friends could cash out. We offered to move to the nearby separate table for two, as this sounded upsetting to the staffer as she said she was getting off and couldn't take our order. We said that was fine and she could send over another staffer, we wanted to make things easy. But she just left, and was clearly angry at us. Eventually someone else came to take our order. Took quite a while to get the food and drinks, but they were good, especially the french fries. But then we were told we could not pay for our order, as it had been added to our friends' tab and they had unknowingly already paid for us when they cashed out. It was weird. We are sorry to have upset the waitress, but not sure what we could have done differently, as there was no one there to seat us and we thought we could sit at an open table or join our friends. Neither seemed to work for her that night. I would return for another visit. I like the neighborhood feel and free street parking.

Finally got to try The Weary Traveler, it did not disappoint!…read more Easy street parking found on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Walked in to a friendly greeting & were seated right away. To drink I ordered a watermelon refresher-tasted like summer! We shared the Goulash, Walleye Sandwich, & Prime Rib Dip. Every single bite was delicious! The garlic fries were crispy & flavorful. I appreciated that their full menu is offered during brunch. Can't wait to come back!

Weary is an eclectic space that is full of a hodgepodge of artwork, mirrors, lighting, decor and a bunch of random items that just make sense together. The vibe here is uniquely local for this part of Madison and from the moment you enter through the large ornate wooden door, you are teleported into a special space where a good time is sure to be had! We have come here for Friday Fish Fry, weekday lunch and weekend brunch, and we have never left unhappy or hungry. The menu is made up of mostly classic dishes such as salads, soups, burgers and sandwiches, with a few mains like steak frites and pork chop. Brunch has your classic brunch dishes such as breakfast plates, biscuits and gravy, burrito and of course, French toast. The fish fry is excellent here, especially the pan fried version, which still provides the light, crisp and fresh fish but less the thick breading. For brunch, the breakfast burrito add sausage was spot on and super tasty! For cocktail, they have a stellar menu of house curated cocktails. For brunch, I went with the Bloody Mary and outside of brunch hours, I gravitate to the Killer Bees Knees gin based cocktail. I will grab a beer on occasion, but the cocktails are too good to pass up! Service is always stellar here whether we are sat in the dining room or bellied up to the bar. Overall, absolutely in love The Weary Traveler Freehouse!

We had the aviation which was really good. A light, well balanced cocktail. Two people had the boombalatty and they enjoyed it. And lastly a chocolate martini which you can never go wrong with and Paloma. The arancini was a delight. The marinara on it was amazing and highly recommend. You get a generous 5 with that order. Two of us the special of the day which was a cheese ravioli. They were able to accommodate a chicken allergy and make it with vegetable stock for me which was great. The sauce was delicious as was the shrimp on it. The chicken breast entree got good reviews from my SIL. Husband had the burger and he enjoyed it. He had the side salad with it and he did mention it could have been dressed a bit more. And then our DIL got the arancini as a meal and that is mentioned above. We finished off with crème brûlée. That was excellent. The ambiance is nice and comfortable. Wasn't too loud which i appreciate. Highly recommend.

It is an amazing balance of feeling like you are eating a home cooked meal but made with care and skilled execution, and in a welcoming yet nicely curated environment. We have tried most of the menu at this point, from the salmon to the burger to the pasta, and all have been delicious. We usually end the meal with the creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake, which are both such a nice cap to the meal. The cocktails are fun and rotate with the season. The service is warm and professional. You may want to make a reservation as they are often busy. So lucky to have this gem of an option in Stoughton!

The area is very moody lighting and even has small lamps on each table. Our server and staff were great and everything came out timely. We got an old fashioned and a sangria. The sangria is strong but you won't know it until you stand up. We started with the cheese puppies and they had a fantastic pull to them. Some of the best version of cheese curds I've had in a while. My husband and I both had salads and the bowl was too small for the salad but it was a decent salad I do wish the cheese was sprinkled on top as it ended up going to the bottom of the bowl. For an entree I had steak frites. Fries were solid and the cooking of the steak was good with the charcoal but it didn't have much flavor. The chard on the side was also good considering I've never had it. For dessert we had the valentine special chocolate cake and again it was good but nothing super special. We didn't stick around the bar too long but enough to get a winning pull tab. I would come back for the bar tenders they seemed chill.
