A solid three star review. Silver Eagle is serviceable. During my visit today I had the walleye sandwich. It came with a pile of fries which were quite good - nice and crispy. The sandwich itself was a bit bland, better with the addition of some hot sauce found with the other condiments on the table. My companion had the Silver Eagle Salad with Chicken - it was huge and looked pretty good. Service was good with a solid Wisconsin tavern vibe. Would I go back, sure... it's a serviceable spot for lunch meeting which this was. read more

I have eaten at this place in person occasionally and have reasonable good luck with the food and service but the couple times I have done take-out they have screwed up the order. Shame on me for not inspecting the food before I left the bar. The latest incident was on an order of boneless wings with an extra side of sauce. They gave me the sauce and the blue cheese but they never coated the "wings" in a sauce to start with. Not sure if they misread the order but the little extra container of sauce did not make up for them not being properly prepared. They were dry and just blah! In the future I will just do dine-in here when I want bar food but I am done with carry-out. read more

Great prices for decent bar food. We ate here twice recently. Sat outside both times. Spacious patio with umbrellas over most tables. I had wings and chili the first time and fried cod fish fry the second. 2 piece cod Friday fish fry for $9.99 is a steal with most comparable places charging $17.00 or more. Food served is not what the menu states. Overall, the food is not bad; however, for their Friday fish fry they list "hand breaded" cod on their menu and are now serving a battered fish instead. Though the battered cod was okay, it was not nearly as good as the hand breaded cod I'd had on a visit a few weeks earlier. For someone who really prefers breaded fish over battered, this was a real disappointment! read more

The parking lot is quite small so if you're there when they're busy there may be nowhere to park. They were short staffed and the kitchen was behind. The server was absolutely trying her best and I felt bad for how busy they were keeping her. I had the one piece walleye fish fry. It comes with a roll, choice of potato, coleslaw, and baked beans. Baked beans were definitely a first with a fish fry. The coleslaw was warm so I didn't try it. Everything else was just okay. They do have a nice little patio area which is worth sitting on if there is a table open. read more

Worst service ever! They outright ignore you and if you're a person of color you may as well NOT set foot in this place. Food is extremely mediocre and if there are good reviews about it then it's obviously from their regular customers. This is an extremely clicky bar and they definitely do not welcome newcomers nor people that they don't prefer. If you like fake then you'll love Lauren and she definitely flaunts that. The place was clean.. lots of great big tvs makes it great to watch sports. Bloody mary was boring. The mix was meh..No celery salt no Tabasco no pickle spear. Just 1 olive and a pathetic pickle chip. They didn't ask spicey or not. Bartender was non caring and unapologetic when i went and had to ask for spice and salt.. no spears..Sandwich was pretty good. Fries were HORRIBLE. SUPER dirty grease made them dark brown , dripping with grease, soggy, limp and bad taste. Waitress was good but when I told here about this no effort to comp something. I typically do not write bad reviews but when I go to bars I always try to have a conversation with the bartender. I try to feel the bar out, I always ask the bartenders if they have a signature girly drink. I just totally did not feel comfortable there at all. However I have been there for breakfast and that was delicious. I am not going to X the bar off my list, I will try it one more time. read more

I want to like the Silver Eagle. It's the closest bar and food to my house. I've gone at least once a month or slightly more for many years. I try to go more frequently at times hoping to get to know the staff or bartenders there hoping my experiences would be better but everyone is pretty cold and brusk who works there. The best I can say is the food is very consistent. Consistently average. Nothing ever is bad or sucks, but nothing ever excites me. For a bar burger they are average and ok. What's constantly disappointing is the service. It's easy to be at the bar and ignored. It's often busy but as many places understaffed and hard to get much attention for some time. Worst though I'd take out. Small things wrong with most every order. Missing side items or wrong toppings. It's 3 blocks away so my frustration and disappointment will likely continue until I pass on some day long from now. read more

My boyfriend and I were gifted a Bucky Book, so we headed into Silver Eagle on a Sunday morning to use their BOGO brunch coupon. It's a quick drive from downtown Madison and there's plenty of parking. We were there a couple hours before a Packer game and it we got immediate seating and quick service. Both my boyfriend and I opted for the country fried breakfast, coming in at $6.99. You get country fried steak*, cheesy hash browns, and your choice of toast. The flavor of everything was good, but the highlight was the toast. It was thick-cut and tasted fresh baked. It came buttered, but the color of the "butter" dripping off it has me thinking it may be margarine or a butter-flavored spray. Still, I'd eat it again. The hash browns were fine, maybe a bit salty. The country fried steak had good flavor, but it was definitely a processed patty that was likely frozen and dropped in a fryer. My boyfriend's and mine were identical in size and shape and the texture was softer than you'd get out of an actual cube steak. The gravy was pretty good, but I could only get about halfway through the meat before giving the rest to my breakfast buddy. My boyfriend also got a mimosa for $4. The low-ball glass size was a better deal than the $6 champagne flute mimosas you find downtown, but not as good as the pint-sized $3 drinks we've been spoiled by at the Come Back In. Service was friendly and it was nicer inside than I would have guessed. They have a lot of affordable food options that makes me want to take another go at the menu despite being somewhat disappointed by the Sysco "steak"; taco night promises things like carnitas, which could be a bangin' deal or a big disappointment. A Madison sports bar staple for over 20 years. I like the specials they have daily. Birthdays you drink free and get a glass mug. Great place to watch sports and have get togethers with friends. Simple menu with bar and grill classics. I love their triple decker club and their new prime rib salad. Both are cheap, large portion, tasty and simple. Had both twice now and it's been consistently good. Wait times can be long when it's busy I find. Expect 25-30 mins when local teams are playing. Seems to be a regular place for my family to go when relatives have birthdays so I come along every time when the name comes up and I happen to be in town. read more

We visit every week and I always make it a point to try something new on the menu! I haven't had anything that I wouldn't order again which sets the bar high, especially for being a sports bar! This is your standard bar food at a standard bar in Madison. We were in on a Sunday afternoon and the place was moderately busy. We were served our drinks pretty quickly and the food was out shortly thereafter. My burger and fries were ok. There wasn't anything breathtaking about either of them. The have lots of TVs available to watch the game and the customers were a mix of singles, couples, families and friends. The pricing of the drinks seemed a bit high to me. There was a blood mary bar that was picked over and sad looking. I really wanted one when I got there and quickly changed my mind after looking at it. Service is so bad, unless you are at the bar, you will wait and wait, usually because the 1 wait staff is talking with the guy at the end of the bar, even if there are 2 bartenders, they do not help the tables. Food....I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, the sauce was maybe Redds hot sauce, the chicken was cold, tomatoes were old, lettuce was wilted, I asked for no onion, and I got old onion, the over all flavor was very odd, and unfortunately the fries were probably from the day before. Do they not know that onions go bad before you can tell, and they put out a gas that contaminates other food?!? I got sick before we even left the place, which was probably a good thing because it took that long to pay. A customer at another table helped us flag down the now different wait staff. Decent bar food. Definitely much better ingredients than some other places. Lots of tvs and drink specials, a great place to watch any sporting event. The place is packed quite often, even for lunch. Try the Cuban!! My only complaint is there is no freaking host. I've never liked the free for all approach. It makes for too many awkward situations. For instance, I don't feel comfortable taking an 8 person table when it's just me and my girlfriend. If it's the only table available, then we're in quite the dilemma. read more

So I am bumping up the Silver Eagle to a "four". Nothing irritates me like a restaurant being out of a "staple" menu item, like boneless wings. Went to the Dane (eastside), ordered a beer and placed my boneless wings order...plain because their sauces are not good on their revamped menu. And the answer a few minutes later was they are out of boneless wings...seriously!!! And the rest of their new menu is not to our liking, so off to MacDonalds for some nuggets. But then I thought....why not try the Silver Eagle for some boneless wings. Good thought. Order one lbs of boneless wings....they came out within 15 minutes and were just as good as the Dane, but 60% of the cost. The bartender served me a beer quickly despite having some locals there; he was quick and efficiency. The food came right from the kitchen. Overall a good experience after a not so good experience at the Dane. read more

I went tonight excited to try this place out. the two girls working were incredibly rude and aggressive from the start. I am a full time server/bartender so i understand the stress but both were very unfriendly to me. My fiancé showed up to meet me with our service dog and immediately both girls came up saying get out your dog has to go. I let them know she's certified they demanded paperwork I said no problem I have it and they stormed off and ignored me. We decided to leave because it wasn't worth it but from the time I walked in these two women made it a very uncomfortable cold experience. The bartender was a very nice guy and really appreciative of him. Drinks for hh were a great deal. Had it not been for these two women I would go back and recommend but this was such a disappointing experience for a place I had heard such great things about. We came here for the Sunday Funday special, which was advertised as having a bloody Mary bar, mimosas, wings, and cheeseburger specials. The advertisement stated "The fun begins at 9am!" Since I'd passed the point of wanting breakfast, but my boyfriend had not, we decided this would be the place for us! Unfortunately, when we arrived, they told me that the burger special does not start until 11 AM (it was 10 AM when we got there). I think better clarification of this would be useful on their advertisements. I still was not interested in breakfast; so, I opted to not eat at the time. My boyfriend ordered breakfast because he is a breakfast fiend and he was pretty hungry. He did enjoy his breakfast, which came out quick and hot. I took a little nibble of his food and it was pretty good. If I had been in the mood for breakfast, I probably would have actually enjoyed it! Besides not being able to order what I wanted, even though it had been advertised as available, I think the lacking part of our experience was the service. We got our first beers quick enough, but when our beers were empty, we sat for at least a good 5 minutes without being offered another, despite the bartender standing nearby and the bar not being very busy. She was playing with her hair and talking to what seemed to be 2 regulars for most of the time we were there. A little more customer engagement with us would have been nice. I wouldn't oppose coming back here again, but it would have to be at the request of others and would not be my personal first selection. read more

You never want to be "those" people who show up on a Sunday about 5 minutes before the kitchen closes and there's only one person in the joint and they might be the bartenders boyfriend...and yet... we were. It's my Husband's birthday and they give you a complimentary burger and beers to celebrate another turn around the sun. Sweet deal! Delicious burger! I've been to Silver Eagle to eat several times and have yet to be disappointed. They have solid food that is reasonably priced. Their fish fry is good. I had the walleye and really enjoyed it. (Note the 5th paragraph is the food review, the rest describes my overall experience and impressions.) First time coming into this establishment after hearing and reading many good things. I came in at 1530 on a Friday, and it was fairly busy already. The bar stools were filled and several tables were occupied. In the 90 mins I was in there every table filled up and it got loud enough that the music/radio could no longer be heard clearly. Unsure of whether i should have waited to be served or not after a minute of not seeing a sign or server I ordered a beer at the bar. After ordering they said I could take it to a table. (Decent beer selection btw though currently heavy with "Oktoberfest" styles, tis the season I guess!) I sat at a table that was near a couple that was nearing the end of their meal, and clearly they were familiar with the server. While the server checked on this table a couple of times and delivered them a final drink, another customer also sat down at another table across from mine. Each trip past our tables the server would look at either of us but never acknowledged us/said anything (not "I'll be with you in a moment/are you thinking of ordering/need anything"). Once I did interrupt her egress from the area she was very helpful and responsive, though she did not introduce herself nor did I ask for her name. I order the baked cod (upon her recommendation) with cheesy mash potatoes and a cup of clam chowder. The chowder was delicious, warm. Standard Wisconsin bar and grill fare that is not a pre-made Sysco product. Slightly under-seasoned which is also standard in Wisconsin. (Aside, I am unsure if there is hot sauce available upon request or not; however, if so it would have complemented the soup nicely.) Upon receiving the entree I was slightly underwhelmed. The fish was warm and delicious, but the potatoes were cool and the shredded cheese on top, unmelted. Unclear if this was due to it being early in the service and having not been warmed up yet/if at all or if it sat at the pass for too long, too far from a heat lamp/plate. The slaw was decent, not too heavy on either the vinegar not the mayonnaise. The roll was cool as well. The beans were warm and seasoned well. I am not sure if I was in there at a weird staffing moment between shifts, if they were busier than anticipated, if as a solo diner I was determined to be a low tip/low ticket and thus lower priority, or if it was simply that I was not a regular something else entirely. Either way I was disappointed by the service today, though I am not going to say this is the standard to judge their service by. I could have been more direct or assertive in seeking service. I did not have any specific expectations for the service here prior, though perhaps from friends describing their affinity for this place, or from having worked on some finer-dining kitchen brigades my sub-conscious expectations were elevated or unrealistic for this kind of dining establishment. I may give it another try yet in the future but most likely not on a Friday again. Some of their specials on other days sounded intriguing including the burrito and tacos on Tuesdays. The space was very clean and well lit. It was too cool today, though it looks as though the patio seating is welcoming and pleasant when appropriate. read more

The bar and aesthetic is relatively clean for a sports bar. However, it's just not my scene. Drinks are expensive given the location of the bar... could be alright if you're a fan of country music and screeching banshees using the karaoke machine on Friday nights - lol. read more

We checked this place out because they're close to our home, and had great happy hour specials. The first experience was okay, but the second time, my husband asked for a double, while we watched our bartender poor a single in a double glass. We were charged the double price. I am also a bartender, and know people paying for a double, should receive a double. read more

This place is the bees knees. There are always lots of friendly staff on hand to serve up whatever you're craving in a jiffy. There's a great food special every day and there's usually at least one or two beers that are on special for the bargain drinkers. Last time I was in I saw they recently put out a summer drinks menu with lots of good choices for these hot summer days. read more
