Prime rib wrap and eagle fries.

Went to Silver eagle for lunch on a weekday, the service was fast and friendly with reasonable prices and a good sized menu! I'm looking forward to stopping by on a Sunday morning for breakfast and a build your own Bloody Mary!

My boyfriend and I were gifted a Bucky Book, so we headed into Silver Eagle on a Sunday morning to use their BOGO brunch coupon. It's a quick drive from downtown Madison and there's plenty of parking. We were there a couple hours before a Packer game and it we got immediate seating and quick service. Both my boyfriend and I opted for the country fried breakfast, coming in at $6.99. You get country fried steak*, cheesy hash browns, and your choice of toast. The flavor of everything was good, but the highlight was the toast. It was thick-cut and tasted fresh baked. It came buttered, but the color of the "butter" dripping off it has me thinking it may be margarine or a butter-flavored spray. Still, I'd eat it again. The hash browns were fine, maybe a bit salty. The country fried steak had good flavor, but it was definitely a processed patty that was likely frozen and dropped in a fryer. My boyfriend's and mine were identical in size and shape and the texture was softer than you'd get out of an actual cube steak. The gravy was pretty good, but I could only get about halfway through the meat before giving the rest to my breakfast buddy. My boyfriend also got a mimosa for $4. The low-ball glass size was a better deal than the $6 champagne flute mimosas you find downtown, but not as good as the pint-sized $3 drinks we've been spoiled by at the Come Back In. Service was friendly and it was nicer inside than I would have guessed. They have a lot of affordable food options that makes me want to take another go at the menu despite being somewhat disappointed by the Sysco "steak"; taco night promises things like carnitas, which could be a bangin' deal or a big disappointment. There's only one way to find out!

Prime rib salad and club sammy. Double time grub fare!

A Madison sports bar staple for over 20 years. I like the specials they have daily. Birthdays you drink free and get a glass mug. Great place to watch sports and have get togethers with friends. Simple menu with bar and grill classics. I love their triple decker club and their new prime rib salad. Both are cheap, large portion, tasty and simple. Had both twice now and it's been consistently good. Wait times can be long when it's busy I find. Expect 25-30 mins when local teams are playing. Seems to be a regular place for my family to go when relatives have birthdays so I come along every time when the name comes up and I happen to be in town.

Went with some friends for lunch, had the B.L.T and was pretty good. The service however needs some work, slow and not very attentive.

Tried the (only on Friday) perch. My order came with four nice-sized perch pieces, potato choice, roll and coleslaw. The beer-battered perch was out-of-this-world outstanding! Incredibly fresh and tender, with a nicely seasoned crust. So good! A+++

The patio is perfect in the summer, and the inside is warm and cozy in the winter. The food is consistently excellent. Their rotating specials are a huge highlight. Last night I had their fried chicken and it was outstanding -- the breading was crisp, light, and perfectly seasoned. You can tell they put care into everything they serve. Their other specials like the Nashville chicken sandwich, ribs, and Friday fish fry are always worth checking out too. Desserts are always a win here, so I try to save room. Drinks are solid as well with plenty of beer and cocktail options. The only downside is parking. The lot fills up fast, so you may end up on the street if you arrive later. But honestly, the food and atmosphere make it more than worth it. Easily one of my favorite spots in Madison.

We were in town and looking for a good place to eat and excited to try this joint, with a 4.4 star…read morerating. We've always had good food in Madison and even though we wanted to get home after a long day, we thought it would be worth the delay. Unfortunately, this time, it wasn't worth it. I feel like it's time and money wasted. I'll get to details, but I'm mainly basing this review on the quality of the food I received. Before getting to the food, our service was great. Our server was a bit slow considering there were only 3 tables (including us) occupied. Or it's more of a relaxed atmosphere, so she was just giving us a lot of time to look over the menu. But aside from that, she was friendly, helpful, and kind. Atmosphere is on the dark side. There are two screens to play games (golf, etc) on two corners of the building. I think there are plenty of options, but we were mainly in for food, and didn't really get much info on the games. I did ask whether they were run on a reservation basis, and the hostess (who was also our server) said yes. She didn't mention any pricing, so I'm not sure what the details on that is. Margarita special $5 This was great. Not overly sweet, and just the right amount of booze. It came in a whiskey cup rather than a margarita one. 3sheep chaos pattern on draft Price for draft beer is not cheap, and the beer was great. The glass it came in was super clean, but also warm. I think it just came out of the dishwasher... So clean, but beer glasses should be cold on principle. Wings The description says these are baked, and then fried before tossed in their sauce. The sauce is yummy. The wings are a fairly large size. But I think they forgot to fry it. The skin on the wings weren't at all crispy, but kinda mushy. The meat was well cooked, but also on the dry side. The celery sticks and carrot rings on the side were super fresh and crispy. Blind burger with side salad I ordered it done medium. It came out very well done. For a wagyu, it lacked fat content, and cooked for too long, so it was very dry. We had just hiked 4 hours at Devil's Lake and quite hungry, but I couldn't finish it. Seasoning was great though. And the side salad was also very fresh. Brussels sprouts Something I haven't done in the last 15 years... I had to ask them to redo it. It came out with underdone Brussels. Interestingly, after I asked them to heat it up more for me, it came out perfect, with the right amount of searing on all the cut sides. Overall, it feels like the kitchen was having a bad day and bad timing - wings needed to get in the fryer for longer, burger should've been out of the pan sooner, Brussels should've stayed in longer. For the prices I paid, I expect better food. Especially since the kitchen knows how to fix their stuff! It was like they put 70% into all the dishes until I spoke up. Would I go back? Nope. Not convinced that the 4.4 rating is justified for me.

Weary is an eclectic space that is full of a hodgepodge of artwork, mirrors, lighting, decor and a bunch of random items that just make sense together. The vibe here is uniquely local for this part of Madison and from the moment you enter through the large ornate wooden door, you are teleported into a special space where a good time is sure to be had! We have come here for Friday Fish Fry, weekday lunch and weekend brunch, and we have never left unhappy or hungry. The menu is made up of mostly classic dishes such as salads, soups, burgers and sandwiches, with a few mains like steak frites and pork chop. Brunch has your classic brunch dishes such as breakfast plates, biscuits and gravy, burrito and of course, French toast. The fish fry is excellent here, especially the pan fried version, which still provides the light, crisp and fresh fish but less the thick breading. For brunch, the breakfast burrito add sausage was spot on and super tasty! For cocktail, they have a stellar menu of house curated cocktails. For brunch, I went with the Bloody Mary and outside of brunch hours, I gravitate to the Killer Bees Knees gin based cocktail. I will grab a beer on occasion, but the cocktails are too good to pass up! Service is always stellar here whether we are sat in the dining room or bellied up to the bar. Overall, absolutely in love The Weary Traveler Freehouse!
