Driving into Madison we had to stop here for a "tap takeover" from some fantastic breweries. Parking seems a bit difficult but I think there's a garage somewhere in the area. The space is really bright and welcoming but the tables are stacked really tight. Most are farm tables and there's maybe a foot between each. The service was great given how slammed they were on a busy weekend. The beer, not by them, was awesome as expected. The food was also good. The goat cheese & beet salad was really solid. Well dressed with an appropriate about of well-braised beets. The cheese was good but given how sticky it was I wish they would have broken it up instead of plopping a big ball on top. It was difficult to eat. I would love to come back if in the area and it's a great place with great beer to stretch the legs after a long drive from Minneapolis read more

Fantastic food! I'm not sure why this is only 3.5 stars?! But the rating is very incorrect in my opinion. Been twice now and it's consistently delicious, Clean, food comes decently quick but not too fast to limit quality, and is really tasty, and the staff are attentive and friendly. This place is Kid friendly as well. one parent can take kids across to Stone Horse Green area to play, while other parent sips some local cider or beer. I'm pretty discerning about food, and the food here and friendliness of the staff is everything I want and need. I have left both times riding a good food buzz. This is a farm to table restaurant. Locally sourced everything, and it shows. The goat cheese puffs, and soft pretzel make a big impression. The beet hummus and butternut squash in the market power bowl are SO yummy. Definitely a taste that would belong in a fancy dining establishment. I'm so happy his place exists. read more

I definitely want to give this a 4 but just have to stick with a 3. The atmosphere and service I have no complaints about. Very nice servers. The food was so so. The brisket sandwich I was not impressed with. Very dry and needed a sauce or something. The pickled veggies on it just didn't do it for me. The bacon jam burger was good. Tons of flavor. The burger was a bit overdone but something I'd order again. The fish my dad had he said was lacking flavor. The turkey sandwich was very yummy though. Another item I'd recommend. The frites were good but the flavored aioli was very mildly flavorful mayo and was just ok. read more

Just stopped by for a beer while there was some event going on in the square. It was my first time here and wasn't sure what to expect. The bartender made me feel like an idiot and the hostess was rude. The server was quite nice but for a beer cafe I would expect them to have flights, which they do not. I should have just gone somewhere else. read more

Stopped in on a Wednesday night which was nice as it wasn't too busy. I was seated right away and had great service. There are so many options for beers so you'll definitely find something you like. Choose from a large selection of non taps or check out the tap list. They also have wine and on Wednesdays bottles are half off. Better yet...you can buy and take with you or have a glass and take with you. The longtable burger is very filling and has a nice melted cheese and cream sauce. If you don't like pink y out r burger you may want to ask for it to be cooked to your liking. I also enjoyed the refreshing side salad even with arugula in it. read more

Great selection of beers. Fast friendly waitress service( also bar tender at same time). Long benches outside as well as inside seating located in small shopping/business quarters. Easy going ambiance. Huge fried chicken wings! Enough to split! read more

Terrible service. Brought the wrong dinner and then charged me for bringing y the correct order.

3 stars for the food: We ordered the Brussels sprouts, meatballs, and brisket sandwiches. Everything came out overly greasy. Brussels sprouts with a thick layer of grease coating the dishes. read more

If I were to come here again, I would go only for beers and the soft pretzel. The service was good and the staff was very friendly but the food was not great. The Brussels sprout appetizer was more like boiled Brussels sprouts in a vinegar sauce. Not a fan of them but they were very interesting. I got the baked cod fish fry and the fries were great but the fish was very over cooked. I was unable to eat it. Overall, cool place for beers and snacks as their beer selection is insane! They had tons of options! read more

A decent place to eat across the street from the Village bar in Middleton. Parking can be hard to find on the weekends but do-able. Not a full bar but lots of beer, wine and soft drink choices. Brisket Mac and cheese was good and great burgers at $18 bucks a pop! The waiter was very competent and friendly. For me, the lighting was too bright and the picnic tables not the most comfortable but ok. read more

The beer cheese soup is the best and I've had my share of this soup! Made with Wisconsin Hooks Cheese and Ale! The wings -- oh my --get yourself here to try the wings! The food was expensive and horrendous, I'm sorry. Ambiance was great, beer selection seemed good (I'm not a beer person so I can't really judge this but they had tons of options), service was great, so why am I being a jerk with the two stars? I feel this restaurant falls into an increasingly common category of gentrified eateries popping up across Madison that have two paragraphs under each menu option touting the virtues of their food- nueske's bacon, Madison sourdough bread, organic valley this and that. This tells me that they've spent a kings ransom on ingredients, but did anyone actually taste the food? You would hope for $18 a plate the answer to that question would be yes. My friend's banh mi sandwich with Madison sourdough bread (¡Fancy!) had waaaaaay too much bread. So dry. Nothing wrong with the bread itself (madison sour makes fantastic shit) or the filling (yeah probably not authentic Vietnamese but we're ordering from a Wisconsin bar so I'm not gonna shit on it for that). The result? Sahara desert dry. My $18 smoked chicken bowl was astoundingly flavorless. The smoked chicken itself needed some salt but was my favorite portion of the meal. There were probably 3.5 tbs of chicken. The flavor on the chicken was a little...subtle. It really would have kicked ass next to a spicy slaw or vinegary something. My main beef with the meal was the sides. There were black beans that tasted as though someone literally dumped a "lite salt" can out. There was a rice pilaf with no salt or seasoning. Then there was a pile of those expensive microgreens with like two dots of dressing on top. I finished picking through my meal and was like shit I paid $18 for this I guess I'll attempt the microgreens, which took up a quarter of the plate. I put the microgreens in my mouth and it tasted like I was eating the plastic scenery - unseasoned lettuce leaves except the pretty miniature expensive ones. I LOVE a good salad, but for Christ sakes put some dressing on it. I would have traded the $10 in microgreens for a slightly larger portion of chicken. The tomatoes were good I liked those. Last but not least, there was a dusting of (somehow also flavorless???) cheese across the top, maybe cojita? Feta would have at least provided some salt although not exactly Mexican. I tasted one noodle of my friends Mac n cheese and that didn't seem half bad, though cloyingly rich. My husbands turkey sandwich meat was partially warm, partially cold but otherwise he said it was okay. The best foods were our appetizers - the cheese curds were fried perfectly (though lacking salt) and the pretzel was high quality, served hot, and had two tasty sauces. The reason I've gone out of my way to be a complete a**hole about this is because EVERYONE is doing this crap these days and taking up space that other more deserving (and often less gentrified) restaurants could have. For example, we went to village bar near mineral point the other night to catch the brewers game and instantly when you walk in you can tell there's decades of history there. The place is plastered in signed badger memorabilia - one floor to ceiling wooden panel with signatures from the entire football team thanking the owner, mark, for donating to their program. Instantly you can tell village bar is not just in a community, it's a part of its community. The bar was closet sized, there was MAYBE three square feet of cooking space in the back with a flat top. We ordered burgers and fries and two beers for got perfectly fried (and hot!), well seasoned fries and a pretty damn good burger with well cooked onions. I paid $70 for two meals and two beers at longtable, and $26 at village. I was floored at how good the food was at village bar. No Neuske's bacon, no microgreens, just food that tastes good. Aesthetics? Forget about it. Their menu was a laminated placecard with their four food options (three of them burgers) sandwiched between their not so fancy beer specials (miller light special, thursdays). So my point is this- new isn't bad. We are a growing community, and there is space for new. But don't forget about our old classics, even if their menus don't have a fancy canva format or microgreens. We also need young folks like Longtable to teach older institutions how to eat more locally and more environmentally friendly (village served burgers on throwaway styrofoam, and I would be surprised if any of the ingredients were sourced within 80 miles of the city, and with the environmental hellscape we're headed into, this matters). In this tough economy it's more important than ever to think about who you support, and the standard you hold them to. read more

This place is quite the gem! I can't believe it took us over a year to redeem a gift card! We've been missing out. We came for a birthday lunch so they were slow but the server was so attentive and kind. I totally dig the rustic long tables and brick, industrial vibe. The tap list is carefully selected and they have a wall of open fridge to take home craft brews. You can tell they really focus on local ingredients and breweries. Burgers were cooked well-- lacking some topping options like LTP, gluten free bun was decent. Frites and sauces were probably our most favorite part of the meal. Paired with Young Blood Friot Punch Sour-- can't be beat! read more

I meet some friends here for lunch because we always do the place across the street and down the block so I suggested let's try it out and they were cool about it. The place is a different model because you can be served or you can self serve from the large open cooler or have a tap beverage. They have long communal tables and a patio and we chose the patio. The menu is small and I chose the taco trio on corn with bbq brisket, smoked chicken and beer battered cod. The smoked chicken was dry white meat and not very Smokey at all. The beef brisket was moist/tender but not smokey either. The beer battered cod was my favorite and the winner. My friends liked the brisket the best but they don't really do bbq whereas I'm a bbq junkie and I do bbq all over the country so I feel the bbq was below average, bar food quality. The corn tortillas were absolutely horrible because the were hard and chewy like a fall leaf and you had to fight for each bite like a baked and left over. I can't imagine doing back because there are better options in the area for food but beverage wise I would definitely go back because of the nice selection. read more

Cute spot! The inside is very nice, lots of seating, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Most people at my table ordered the tacos, which were pretty good! I got the veggie and chicken tacos. The veggie were really good, a nice bit of spice to them. The chicken weren't as good but I'm also not a big chicken person either. So take with a grain of salt. Lots of drink options, loved the variety!! read more

Tried this place out tonight after a day at the CrossFit Games and it was awesome! We were planning on going to a spot around the corner for noodles but found out it's carry out only. Food was great. Quality was good. Absolutely amazing selection of beer. Atmosphere at this spot was really laid back. It's set in a residential area with commercial spaces on the first floor. Very great vibe sitting on the patio. All in all this wasn't a 5-star situation to me because of the quality of the food and the organization of the place. We showed up and were told 10 minutes and ended up waiting just under 30. We never got water or utensils. Most of our food was easily finger food - would've preferred utensils if they were provided. It feels like one of those spots where you use your server visits strategically to prevent waiting around for quite some time - even though we ended up waiting around anyways with the check at the end. The quality of food is okay overall. The cheese curds here are the best I've had so far. We ordered them with beer cheese. I fully regret not capturing a photo before destroying them. YUM! Everything else was pretty lack luster (charcuterie was overpriced and nachos were generic with dry brisket). All in all a good spot for a date night but not somewhere that feels like the menu is priced fairly. read more

Honestly, not the best but not bad? I tend not to like impossible burgers, so I opted for the veggie sandwich with fries. It was pretty good (never tried beet hummus so that was cool) but nothing extraordinary. I was thinking about getting a cider at the time, but didn't end up doing so because I don't think they had a plain apple cider (there was a cherry and a pear?). No complaints about the atmosphere or service though (both were good), but just a heads up that the kitchen does close at 9pm. Anyways, not bad, pretty decent. read more

I tried out their restaurant week meal with a friend and that for $25 total was a pretty good deal. There have some outdoor tables by the restaurant but when those are full there are picnic tables in the area (beware of mosquitoes)! The meal itself was good. I liked the beans the most but wasn't crazy filling. We ended up ordering fries afterwards which were very tasty. The extra saltiness and crunch you desire from fries. The aioli pairing was delicious too. They do have a lot of beer selection which is great too. The chocolate stout I had was great! You can order at the counter and masks are required. read more

We were asked to move from an outside table after being seated with menus. Apparently the owner had promised it to someone else for a photo shoot?? The waiter said maybe we could get you half off your first drink, maybe?? After moving inside the meals were as you would expect. The side salad of the evening was no longer available but we'll get you a replacement, which was in a shot glass. I believe they were rationing this salad like we were on a deserted island. Long waits for the waiter, who was stressed. We did not get a second beer. Nor will we be back. read more

I am in search of a good Philly Cheesesteak in the Greater Madison area and it has been a struggle. The Philly Cheesesteak had shaved ribeye, Mushroom Mike peppers, onions and mushrooms, Longtable cheese sauce, and Clasen's sub roll. Visited longtable for a quick drink on a weekday night. The venue was lively and the ambiance was very nice and warm. I was instantly greeted by a host and directed to a table. I appreciate how you're able to get craft draft brews at the bar and enjoyed pre-bottled drinks on their refrigerated wall (full of ciders & beer). The triple jam cider I got was delicious -- it was full of flavor and really well priced at $5 for 16 oz. My husband and I have eaten at Longtable several times, which we first sought out after Brasserie V closed, in the hopes of finding a similar vibe (or at least a similar quality of food and the same menu of Belgian beer). Our experience of the menu has been generally good, although the service has varied from okay to poor. This evening, we were greatly disappointed when the host, who previously served us as a stressed and distracted waiter, clearly did not want to us to wait for a table and, had we decided to wait, wanted to make sure we did not move (for 40 minutes) from our position by the front door. His attitude was both unhospitable and condescending. We then walked over to the Free House Pub where we were greeted with warmth and respect. Maybe hire more women? read more

I absolutely love it here! Would recommend to anyone. Their goat cheese puffs are amazing. Today I had the veggie sandwich that I always order and it was not the same. Went here for Madison Burger Week to try out the community burger and then also ended up ordering the brisket sandwich. The community burger was very good! The mint yogurt and tomato-chili chutney played nicely with the beef/lamb combo burger, providing a coolness to the sandwich. The bun was also perfect for absorbing all of the juices of the burger and sauces. I also got the coleslaw as my side, which was kind of soggy. The jicama slaw that they used to have was much better. The brisket sandwich was piled high with meat and giardinara. Some pieces of brisket at the top were a little dry, but the pieces on the bottom were juicy and had a nice smoked flavor. Overall the food was pretty good, but it feels like they are pulling back from the originality when they first open. We do miss the jicama slaw and the chickpea sides. Also we really miss the sausages!! These were are favorites here and really made the place feel like a beer hall. read more

My family and joined at Longtable for dinner and beer. They do not take reservations on the weekends but it wasn't hard to get a spot for 6 people. It is a very casual environment. We were greeted immediately and served ice cold beer. My husband and I had the hazy IPA and it was so delicious. We ordered nachos to share which were so cheesy and full of toppings. My husband ordered the brisket grilled cheese which was to die for. I almost stole his other half of his sandwich. I had the smoked chicken bowl which was okay. It was lacking flavor and it was a small portion for the price. Overall I would definitely come back for the beer, nachos and brisket grilled cheese! read more

My daughter and I went there for lunch on a Friday. After waiting 40 minutes for our meal, I approached the counter. As soon as I started talking, the waitress said the kitchen had lost our order ticket. She handed me menus and said I could try and find something else to order and she'd put it in for us to wait again. She had not come to our table to tell us this, but waited for me, the customer, to seek her out. No compensation was offered, no free drink, soda, nothing. When leaving I spoke to the man I thought was the manager and explained the situation in a perfectly normal, non-heated voice, he just looked at me and didn't say one word, merely stared like I was invisible. The waitress did apologize, but that was all, and that wasn't enough. I hear the restaurant has decent food, but I will never go there. I don't patronize places that don't care about its patrons. My daughter did say that she and her husband had difficulty one other time with service, but they wanted to try it again because they thought the food was okay. Apparently I'll never find out. Surprisingly disappointed. Our large group came for a friend's birthday celebration. I'll be honest---they do have a great selection of beer and wine. Lots of different options. They came out super well done and dry. What a disappointment. Fried shallots were good and bacon was perfect. Goat cheese puffs were fantastic. Unlimited Mussels on Tuesday. Fantastic.
