The bar was very cheerful and the Bloody Marys were quite awesome. Waitress was very nice. The decor was of aged commemorative style. We enjoy when establishments keep the vintage decor!

We ordered their cheese curds to start, and they were delicious. The sauce they came with was also full of flavor that paired well. One of us ordered the gritty burger, which was described as " quite gritty"! Despite the mess it made, it tasted wonderful. The fries were just your standard french fries, nothing too special about them. The Wisco scrambler could have used more eggs in its egg-to-scrambler topping ratio, but no complaints about the taste here. The chicken and waffles were interesting since I have never seen it portrayed like a waffle sandwich with a chicken patty inside. The waffles themselves were very sugary, which, if you love tasting sugar crystals like I do, is great news! Gravy and syrup came with this dish, and both were great with the chicken and waffles respectively. Not sure how much I enjoyed the taste of them mixed together. Nonetheless, we had a lovely time at Nitty Gritty, and we hope to try their milkshakes next time around! Thanks :)

Second visit -- first time at the new location -- and unfortunately a disappointing one. I was…read moregenuinely excited to bring a friend and support a local spot I've enjoyed in the past. The décor and overall aesthetic are lovely, but the food and service didn't come close to matching the first time. The biggest issue was temperature. Majority of food on the plate was not hot and not warm -- not the chicken, not the rice, not the beans. At the previous location, you could see the chickens roasting on the spit, and the food arrived hot and fresh. Here, I'm not sure what's happening behind the scenes, but the food temps indicate it had all been sitting. The only item that was freshly prepared were the plantains. I didn't bring it up to the server because she was checked out the entire time, and honestly, I can't expect her to remedy the kitchen if she can't bring waters. Why is the kitchen sending out food that clearly isn't hot? Is it being held in a steamer? If so the temps are not being checked and that becomes a food safety issue beyond quality‑control issues. Service itself also missed the mark. The pretty glasses are small -- though pretty-- and I had to flag the server down for refills. Same with the sauces that are supposed to come with the meal; they only arrived after I asked. To be clear it was 1:00 on a Monday and there was one other table in the place at arrival, and one table after our arrival. I had been planning another visit to introduce a different friend, but after this experience, I don't think I'll be returning. I hope things improve, because the new space deserves better execution than what's currently coming out of the kitchen.

The owner came by and gave us each a small cilantro soup as a freebie (which who doesn't like a little freebie?) :) My wife and I liked the atmosphere and found the prices reasonable. If you are looking for a nice casual small restaurant to have a lunch...highly recommend Pikkito.
