We had dinner here Christmas Eve, we made the reservation before reading the terrible Yelp reviews, so honestly we walked in with low expectations. We had a gift card so we figured now was a good a time as any to try it out. Our drinks & dinner were very good, as was the service, I had the steak fajitas and my table mates each had steak and shrimp combo. Their (complimentary) chips are excellent, fresh out of the fryer & delicious. Honestly everything about our meal was solid and we will gladly return. I would put 0 stars if I could. The service was ok at best. It took a while for drinks to come out. One of us couldnt get a frozen marg as the bartender didnt know how to work the blender. The food was not very good. Maybe some of the worst restaurant food I have ever had. The rice is very overcooked and hard. The salsa has no flavor. The beans taste like canned baked beans. The waitress mixed up 3 peoples orders and couldnt tell which tacos are which. The food was all bitter and no real flavor profile. One of our margs had a moldy raspberry as a garnish. The cups were super dirty and the table waters had stuff floating in them. The prices are very high for very below average food. The ambiance was ok. Weird that there was 3 people in this big restaurant during the dinner rush, not surprised after eating it. First time here. My experience did not start off well being waiting a fairly long time to be seated. Once seated it took several minutes to get any service and when we got a Kraft of water my water glass was chipped. When got chips and salsa but took several minutes again to get are order. I was visiting Milwaukee and I was looking forward tk some good food. I made the decision to go to this restaurant and boy was that the wrong decision. The service was ok, and the ambiance was too dark and a little weird. But speaking about the food it was a very bad experience. Starting with the salsa, there was not much flavor, I asked for something spicy and they brought the same salsa. I got the quesa birria, and my co worker got the barbacoa tacos. It was very disappointing that they both had the exact same meat when they were clearly different dishes. However the consome with my dish was so salty that it was inedible. I then took a bite of the quesadilla and it was also inedible. My co worker took a bite of her Taco was also stated that it was so salty it was inedible. By far the worst dish of food I have ever had at any restaurants in over 20 different states. I would not recommend this place at all. We had a wonderful afternoon visit at Uncle Julio's. We arrived in time for the happy hour special -- only available at the bar -- and enjoyed margaritas. We then split the tortilla soup and chicken fajitas. The soup had a phenomenal flavor and was just the right amount of spicy. We picked this place for cinco de mayo because you could make a reservation. The place was very busy when we got there. I ordered a regular margarita and my sister got a Paloma. The drinks took a while but you could see they were busy. We really liked the salsa that came with chips. I think it was a black bean salsa. My sister's steak quesadilla was delicious. I got their special that was a different take on chile rellenos, chile puebra. They were deep fried. They were decent but incredibly hot when first buying into it. Stopped here on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch with my friends. Our waitress was lovely and provided great service! We ordered some non-alcoholic watermelon margaritas and they were delicious! The table-side guac was fresh and tasty but the chips were a bit too thin and kept breaking in the bowl. We ordered a variety of main dishes. Absolutely the worst experience I have EVER had at a restaurant. There basically was no service, our waiter never brought out the waters we asked for, never refilled chips or salsa. Never even got a second drink order in. We had small children with our group and ordered their food right away. We had to ask several times where it was and then when it came out, it was wrong. The correct food was never received. I understand we had larger party, but we made a reservation so they were aware. A total of 3 hours was spent trying to get our food order correct with no success. It was a birthday party that was never acknowledged and we ran out of patience to order the chocolate piñatas which was suppose to be the highlight of the night. VERY disappointed. My how this restaurant location has changed. The quality of food and service has declined. I made reservations for nine to celebrate my sister's birthday this past Friday and upon arrival things were going well. We started with drinks and appetizers. When we started to place our entree orders I explicitly expressed to our waitress that my visually impaired mom could not have onions, green peppers, etc., on her food steak tacos. I ordered steak tacos for her with just meat, cheese and tomatoes. When her food arrived, There was tons of picco on her tacos. One of the managers, the African-American young lady who was assisting bringing out our meals, said no problem, took the entrée back and I thought it was odd how quickly they returned with the items. I'm convinced they took it in back and simply thought they had removed all of the pico, but clearly had not. It was lazy and insulting! My mom took a bite and said there were onions in there. I took a look and didn't see any. She took something out of her mouth and showed it to me. I took it from her hand low and behold there were chopped onions! I got a hold of our waitress showed it to her and she offered to make something else and suggested that we choose something that didn't have ground beef. I said it wasn't ground beef. It was steak and I said now she doesn't trust your food so my mom opted to not replace her meal. I'm thankful my mother did not suffer an allergic reaction due to this careless act by your staff. Although the waitress said she was going to speak to her manager, no one ever came in to address the concern. Fast forward. Another member of our party had ordered a drink with his entree. After ten minutes of having received his meal, I went to the bar because I was going to order and bring the drink back to our table (assuming the waitress had forgotten to place the drink order) when I got to the bar there was a very semi-melted sangria swirl sitting at the bar. The young lady at the bar apologized when I told her that I believed that was for our party. I was trying to carry it back our table when our waitress appeared and assisted by taking it from my hand as it was spilling . She was apologetic. The fact that the restaurant did not appear to be packed and we were the only ones in the room we were placed in made me feel as though we kept being forgotten about. The food quality and taste was not what I remembered from Uncle Julio's. I used to love this restaurant. However, this experience as a whole left a bad taste in my mouth! I chose to not address my displeasure in that moment as to not further take away from my sister's evening. Really loved the food at Uncle Julio's. There were five in our party. Between us, we had fish tacos, mushroom tacos, a stuffed poblano, and two combination platters. Everyone enjoyed the food, the serving sizes were just right, and we left stuffed and happy. Two of us had the house margaritas. I was surprised at how good the "basic" margaritas were and I can only imagine the more expensive ones are even better. The service, however, was soooo slow! It took at least 10 minutes to get a lemonade. My entree order was incorrect, as were three of our sides. The server was very nice, but everything just took so long! After our meal we had to wait to pay because the servers share the portable pay stations. Another server walked by several times while we were paying and looked over our shoulders to see if we were done with the machine yet. Uncle Julio's missed the mark for me. The interior looks nice and inviting, and then you get the menu. The prices were higher than expected on just about everything, and the quality of the food was just ok. If there was cheese on something, it was smothered, and you couldn't taste anything else. If there wasn't cheese, there was far too little flavor. You could taste a little, which left you wanting more where none existed. The drinks were good, as was most of the food presentation. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu (as she should have been; there wasn't much to memorize, sadly). I was extremely disappointed! This is nothing like the original Uncle Julio's in Texas. The decor is more of an overpriced steakhouse than Mexican. The service was very slow & this was a Thursday evening. They weren't busy. I think the waitress must have been new. Popped into Uncle Julio's for some pre-movie food and drinks on a Thursday night. My three friends and I were informed that there was a long wait for a table, so we opted to sit at the bar instead. The bummer is that there were tons of available tables the whole night, so this place is surely experiencing the unfortunate staff-shortage happening everywhere. The bar was certainly good enough though. We snagged the corner spot and were quickly greeted by the bartender with waters. Everyone opted for one of their margaritas (they even make me an NA version that was tasty). I had a sip of my sis-in-law's El Jefe Margarita and boyyy was that good! It was definitely on the spicer side and even came with a big ol' jalapeno on the rim. This one is only the beginning of the many marg options on the menu though. They even have a rotating flavor of the month. As for food, we all left stuffed! They portions here are no joke. As with most Mexican food places, they placed in front of us a massive bowl of tortilla chips and salsa for us to snack on while we waited for our entrees. I went with the street tacos and loved them. They're packed with all the good stuff... habanero salsa, jalapeño peppers, pico, avocado, cilantro, and I choose grilled shrimp as my option. No way could I finish all three of these tacos along with the rice, but the two I had we're thoroughly enjoyed. I met some friends at Uncle Julio's a week or two ago for lunch. I was very excited because they had Baja style fish tacos! I was late due a previous appointment, but my friends were visiting. I asked the waiter for ice water three times and never got it. The tacos (3) had what I can describe as tiny fish sticks in them! I combined the fish all onto one taco or it would gotten lost in the tortilla. I requested no pickled onions and got them anyway. These were definitely not the fish tacos that I had when I lived in Baja! The price was ridiculous for the little bit of food I actually got. I'll pass on on Uncle Julio's next time. read more

Stopped here after a reservation fell through at another restaurant. It was busy but when I went back to the bathroom, I noticed a lot of open tables, many un-bussed. We had a 10-15 minute wait so we ordered 2 regular house margaritas at the bar. It took our whole wait time to receive our margaritas. The bartender was going pretty slow and we saw many servers milling about at the bar chatting. Felt worse for a man eating at the bar. He received his food without silverware and had to wait a while to eat until silverware was dropped off. He also ordered another drink while we were at the bar (bottle of beer) and he still hadn't received it by the time our table was ready. Our server, Grace, was great - very friendly and attentive. The food was good - I had the cauliflower burrito bowl and my friend got the chicken bowl. The chips were good but extremely greasy. Unfortunately, most of the restaurant seemed dirty. Much of the floor was covered with food/spills. All in all, I don't anticipate a return visit soon. read more

The service was mediocre - had to remind the waitress a few times on what we needed, and everything seemed to take longer than necessary. Ordered a glass of wine, and the wine glass was dripping wet as if it was just washed, but the old lipstick stain and all the other smudges on the glass suggests that it was not washed so not sure what that was about. The food was not good - chicken was very dry, no flavor whatsoever to the tacos. The beans were not your typical refried beans - it looks like they came out of a can of Bush baked beans with cilantro sprinkled on top. I read the other reviews (pretty consistently negative) and I was so surprised because I've been here multiple times and I've never experienced that type of food or encounter. I will focus this review on my most current experience: last night for taco Tuesday where we were seated in the bar area. Our waiter was so present--even if a quick check-in on his way somewhere else, he'd see if we were good with our drinks and chips. When we were finally ready to order, he was ready (and likely relieved we finally we ordering lol) for us. We got the taco Tuesday special: essentially a big lazy Susan of all items needed for building tacos. My only rec is that they'd give more of the toppings and fewer of the garnishes rather than equal parts. Sorry, I cannot remove a star for that. Each person is allotted four tacos for the first time but you can request more! The shells were soft and almost fluffy--almost like a small pita! Personally, I loved this but I assume many are rolling their eyes at that and thinking, "but authentic is not like that". But Uncle Julio's is not authentic so I'll praise and celebrate the shells! My friend said, "I think I like this even more than the fajitas!". I got the basic margarita and I thought it was great: sweet and flavorful but not too overly sweet like when you can just taste the sugary mix. Went on a Thursday at 5pm. Service was the slowest, least attentive that we can remember. Son asked for nacho toppings on the side and they did not do that, waters were constantly emptied and not refilled, told the waitress of the dessert we wanted at the beginning of our order and she didn't let us know they were out of it until 30 minutes after our food was finished.
