My how this restaurant location has changed. The quality of food and service has declined. I made reservations for nine to celebrate my sister's birthday this past Friday and upon arrival things were going well. We started with drinks and appetizers. When we started to place our entree orders I explicitly expressed to our waitress that my visually impaired mom could not have onions, green peppers, etc., on her food steak tacos. I ordered steak tacos for her with just meat, cheese and tomatoes. When her food arrived, There was tons of picco on her tacos. One of the managers, the African-American young lady who was assisting bringing out our meals, said no problem, took the entrée back and I thought it was odd how quickly they returned with the items. I'm convinced they took it in back and simply thought they had removed all of the pico, but clearly had not. It was lazy and insulting! My mom took a bite and said there were onions in there. I took a look and didn't see any. She took something out of her mouth and showed it to me. I took it from her hand low and behold there were chopped onions! I got a hold of our waitress showed it to her and she offered to make something else and suggested that we choose something that didn't have ground beef. I said it wasn't ground beef. It was steak and I said now she doesn't trust your food so my mom opted to not replace her meal. I'm thankful my mother did not suffer an allergic reaction due to this careless act by your staff. Although the waitress said she was going to speak to her manager, no one ever came in to address the concern. Fast forward. Another member of our party had ordered a drink with his entree. After ten minutes of having received his meal, I went to the bar because I was going to order and bring the drink back to our table (assuming the waitress had forgotten to place the drink order) when I got to the bar there was a very semi-melted sangria swirl sitting at the bar. The young lady at the bar apologized when I told her that I believed that was for our party. I was trying to carry it back our table when our waitress appeared and assisted by taking it from my hand as it was spilling . She was apologetic. The fact that the restaurant did not appear to be packed and we were the only ones in the room we were placed in made me feel as though we kept being forgotten about. The food quality and taste was not what I remembered from Uncle Julio's. I used to love this restaurant. However, this experience as a whole left a bad taste in my mouth! I chose to not address my displeasure in that moment as to not further take away from my sister's evening. No ambiance at all! Service was slow. Food was so so and very expensive for what you get! We got the shrimp fajitas for 2, very small portion and shrimp were very small. They only serve 1 type of salsa and its not very good and the color was black and smoke flavored! No red, green salsa and no pico! Very disappointing! I usually go back to give it a second chance. Well it took 15min to be acknowledged at the bar. Finally got a drink and chips... another 15min to place a food order (never got a menu; had to look on website). Dirty dishes and glasses left for 30min on either side of me. Bartenders both buried. Manager finally came over. Sad to say but my experience sucked. It's not the bartender's fault. Manager needs to pay attention. This is squarely upon her! Finally ordered, got water and a roll-up (napkin, utensils). Food arrived and it was good. In all, experience was quite lackluster. It's no wonder many Uncle Julio's are closing. They value profits over staffing adequately. I feel bad for the bartenders at this Brookfield location. Sat at the bar couldn't get a drink, saw ppl just leave. I read the other reviews (pretty consistently negative) and I was so surprised because I've been here multiple times and I've never experienced that type of food or encounter. I will focus this review on my most current experience: last night for taco Tuesday where we were seated in the bar area. Our waiter was so present--even if a quick check-in on his way somewhere else, he'd see if we were good with our drinks and chips. When we were finally ready to order, he was ready (and likely relieved we finally we ordering lol) for us. We got the taco Tuesday special: essentially a big lazy Susan of all items needed for building tacos. My only rec is that they'd give more of the toppings and fewer of the garnishes rather than equal parts. Sorry, I cannot remove a star for that. Each person is allotted four tacos for the first time but you can request more! The shells were soft and almost fluffy--almost like a small pita! Personally, I loved this but I assume many are rolling their eyes at that and thinking, "but authentic is not like that". But Uncle Julio's is not authentic so I'll praise and celebrate the shells! My friend said, "I think I like this even more than the fajitas!". I got the basic margarita and I thought it was great: sweet and flavorful but not too overly sweet like when you can just taste the sugary mix. Went on a Thursday at 5pm. Service was the slowest, least attentive that we can remember. Son asked for nacho toppings on the side and they did not do that, waters were constantly emptied and not refilled, told the waitress of the dessert we wanted at the beginning of our order and she didn't let us know they were out of it until 30 minutes after our food was finished. I met some friends at Uncle Julio's a week or two ago for lunch. I was very excited because they had Baja style fish tacos! I was late due a previous appointment, but my friends were visiting. I asked the waiter for ice water three times and never got it. The tacos (3) had what I can describe as tiny fish sticks in them! I combined the fish all onto one taco or it would gotten lost in the tortilla. I requested no pickled onions and got them anyway. These were definitely not the fish tacos that I had when I lived in Baja! The price was ridiculous for the little bit of food I actually got. I'll pass on on Uncle Julio's next time. read more

The service was mediocre - had to remind the waitress a few times on what we needed, and everything seemed to take longer than necessary. Ordered a glass of wine, and the wine glass was dripping wet as if it was just washed, but the old lipstick stain and all the other smudges on the glass suggests that it was not washed so not sure what that was about. The food was not good - chicken was very dry, no flavor whatsoever to the tacos. The beans were not your typical refried beans - it looks like they came out of a can of Bush baked beans with cilantro sprinkled on top. A group of friends ordered takeout, this was my first time trying their food. I've looked at their menu before but the prices kept me away. The menu is kinda small, and their vegetarian options are pretty slim. I went with the cheese and onion enchiladas (comes with a carne sauce so you have to sub something else). $13 for two enchiladas and $15 for 3. Might as well get three if I'm spending the money? The to-go containers are huge but I honestly thought they skimped on the pinto beans (delicious btw) by putting them in a super shallow container. Beans are cheap, I'd prefer more next time. The rice was okay, good portion. No extras like pico, sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes. The enchiladas...they were cold and cold cheese wasn't the most exciting. I don't blame the restaurant, they traveled 10 minutes before I ate them. But that aside, they weren't that great. The hatch chili sauce was good and had a kick to it. When I heated up the leftovers at home, the enchiladas were a touch better but super flat and I've made better. The other complaint in the group was pork tacos, she thought the pork was hard and didn't seem fresh. Also, the complimentary chips and salsa for 4 was a small portion and the ultra thin chips were mostly broken. Ate here Sunday evening. Place was quiet - may be because of Packer game this afternoon and thunderstorms. In spite of the place being only a quarter full, service was slow and not very attentive. Took a few minutes to take order and food arrived 10-15 minutes later. My grilled fish tacos were good. Wife ordered street tacos which were spicy and heavy on the jalapeños. Lost a star for service and another for the strong odor of what seems like a damp/stale washcloth used to clean the table. Uncle Julios is a great spot to grab some Mexican food if you're out in Brookfield. We went right around 5pm and were able to get a table for two right away. We got a small queso as a quick appetizer and with that and our chips and salsa we were already a little full before our food even came. We got the enchiladas and quesadillas and both really enjoyed our meals. Our server was great and always made sure our drinks were full and that we were having a great experience. My friends & I made reservations which was great since the service capacity is on at 25%. The host station is at the door & if anyone guest walks up they can come in w/ reservations only & or leave your name for them to text/page when your table is ready. All tables are spaced out, employees wear masks & someone comes around to clean/disinfectant areas on a timely matter. We had complementary chips & salsa waiting for us at the table, order large guacamole which was delicious, drink & food specials during the week. Good service, nice setting, but I wasn't impressed with the menu or the prices of items. They claim to be Tex Mex, but I've never been to a Tex Mex place that didn't have a single burrito on the menu. Also, the prices.. $23 for my salmon and rice dish, and fajitas easily in the $22 and up range. Three street tacos for almost $17? You can get those at Mexican places for $2-$3 a piece. Camarones Diablos are $27, which includes 6 shrimp. Six shrimp. That's $4.50 per shrimp. Ok, so you get beans and rice with it too. If this were actually a "fancy" Mexican/Tex Mex place with GREAT food, I'd get behind those prices, but everything I saw at our table and on the menu was just ok. The margaritas were good, but you guessed it- expensive. I had two swirl margaritas at $14.5 apiece. They were medium sized, but ouch, $14.50? Similar drinks can be had at other locally owned Mexican places for $11 or $12. The place is fine. Nothing bad about it, but I don't know what I'm paying more for here vs other favorites. read more

This is our second visit. In short the atmosphere is good, the food is tasty and came out timely after order. However, my issue both times the wait staff was not all attentive when it came to timely taking our order, refills, seeing if we needed anything, or delivering the check even though they were not busy either time.
