I read the other reviews (pretty consistently negative) and I was so surprised because I've been here multiple times and I've never experienced that type of food or encounter. I will focus this review on my most current experience: last night for taco Tuesday where we were seated in the bar area. Our waiter was so present--even if a quick check-in on his way somewhere else, he'd see if we were good with our drinks and chips. When we were finally ready to order, he was ready (and likely relieved we finally we ordering lol) for us. We got the taco Tuesday special: essentially a big lazy Susan of all items needed for building tacos. My only rec is that they'd give more of the toppings and fewer of the garnishes rather than equal parts. Sorry, I cannot remove a star for that. Each person is allotted four tacos for the first time but you can request more! The shells were soft and almost fluffy--almost like a small pita! Personally, I loved this but I assume many are rolling their eyes at that and thinking, "but authentic is not like that". But Uncle Julio's is not authentic so I'll praise and celebrate the shells! My friend said, "I think I like this even more than the fajitas!". I got the basic margarita and I thought it was great: sweet and flavorful but not too overly sweet like when you can just taste the sugary mix. The only thing is that the round tables at the bar are small--had we not ordered the big lazy Susan of taco things, I'd still think it small for all the glasses, chips, salsa, menus, etc. I can't wait to come back :) read more

Went on a Thursday at 5pm. Service was the slowest, least attentive that we can remember. Son asked for nacho toppings on the side and they did not do that, waters were constantly emptied and not refilled, told the waitress of the dessert we wanted at the beginning of our order and she didn't let us know they were out of it until 30 minutes after our food was finished. Spent Sunday afternoon there and though I was never overly excited about their food, I do LOVE the drinks. We were waited on by Cheyenne who was serving tables as well as taking care of us at the bar. Was very slow there. She certainly filled all of our needs for drinks and apps and did all with a smile. Easily the worst takeout we've ever had. A simple order of beef nachos was a half hour delayed, beef was undercooked, cheese on taco shells broken up, sloppy, and tasted maybe slightly better than dog food. A group of friends ordered takeout, this was my first time trying their food. I've looked at their menu before but the prices kept me away. The menu is kinda small, and their vegetarian options are pretty slim. I went with the cheese and onion enchiladas (comes with a carne sauce so you have to sub something else). $13 for two enchiladas and $15 for 3. Might as well get three if I'm spending the money? The to-go containers are huge but I honestly thought they skimped on the pinto beans (delicious btw) by putting them in a super shallow container. Beans are cheap, I'd prefer more next time. The rice was okay, good portion. No extras like pico, sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes. The enchiladas...they were cold and cold cheese wasn't the most exciting. I don't blame the restaurant, they traveled 10 minutes before I ate them. But that aside, they weren't that great. The hatch chili sauce was good and had a kick to it. When I heated up the leftovers at home, the enchiladas were a touch better but super flat and I've made better. The other complaint in the group was pork tacos, she thought the pork was hard and didn't seem fresh. Also, the complimentary chips and salsa for 4 was a small portion and the ultra thin chips were mostly broken. This is our second visit. In short the atmosphere is good, the food is tasty and came out timely after order. However, my issue both times the wait staff was not all attentive when it came to timely taking our order, refills, seeing if we needed anything, or delivering the check even though they were not busy either time. Ate here Sunday evening. Place was quiet - may be because of Packer game this afternoon and thunderstorms. In spite of the place being only a quarter full, service was slow and not very attentive. Took a few minutes to take order and food arrived 10-15 minutes later. My grilled fish tacos were good. Wife ordered street tacos which were spicy and heavy on the jalapeños. Lost a star for service and another for the strong odor of what seems like a damp/stale washcloth used to clean the table. Uncle Julios is a great spot to grab some Mexican food if you're out in Brookfield. We went right around 5pm and were able to get a table for two right away. We got a small queso as a quick appetizer and with that and our chips and salsa we were already a little full before our food even came. We got the enchiladas and quesadillas and both really enjoyed our meals. Our server was great and always made sure our drinks were full and that we were having a great experience. My friends & I made reservations which was great since the service capacity is on at 25%. The host station is at the door & if anyone guest walks up they can come in w/ reservations only & or leave your name for them to text/page when your table is ready. All tables are spaced out, employees wear masks & someone comes around to clean/disinfectant areas on a timely matter. We had complementary chips & salsa waiting for us at the table, order large guacamole which was delicious, drink & food specials during the week. Our food was great the only thing I would suggest is for the ground beef to be seasoned more. I love the cheese sauce & can eat that on everything. read more

Good service, nice setting, but I wasn't impressed with the menu or the prices of items. They claim to be Tex Mex, but I've never been to a Tex Mex place that didn't have a single burrito on the menu. Also, the prices.. $23 for my salmon and rice dish, and fajitas easily in the $22 and up range. Three street tacos for almost $17? You can get those at Mexican places for $2-$3 a piece. Camarones Diablos are $27, which includes 6 shrimp. Six shrimp. That's $4.50 per shrimp. Ok, so you get beans and rice with it too. If this were actually a "fancy" Mexican/Tex Mex place with GREAT food, I'd get behind those prices, but everything I saw at our table and on the menu was just ok. The margaritas were good, but you guessed it- expensive. I had two swirl margaritas at $14.5 apiece. They were medium sized, but ouch, $14.50? Similar drinks can be had at other locally owned Mexican places for $11 or $12. The place is fine. Nothing bad about it, but I don't know what I'm paying more for here vs other favorites. read more

we went there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was empty. There were only 2 other customers in the entire restaurant and it was right around lunch time. This should have been our first red flag. we sat at the bar and ordered drinks and an appetizer. the bartender was nice but she definitely distracted. during the ordering she stared into space with a lost look. we paused our order think something was wrong. she replied stating that she was listening and we should continue. we told her we thought something was wrong because her attention was some place else. we asked why there were no customers and she said that it usually like that on Sundays it is real busy on Mondays and Fridays, ordered a beer and a soda and nachos. the beer came first and it tasted old and then asked for a different beer. her reply was she can't refund the beer. that the manager would need to come. we told her we did not care we want to try a different brand. it too was old and skunky. She took the beer and looked at it and put it down behind the bar and started to talk to other servers and trying to look busy. we sat there for nearly 20 minutes no commentary chips and our order was taking extremely long. we figured nacho is just chips, meat and sauce should only take about 5 minutes to be severed because there was no one else there the kitchen was not that busy. after 20 minutes we figured the food would be cold and still no chips we canceled the order. we the decided to leave. She said we can't. We got up left more that enough money to cover the 2 crappy beers and soda and walked out. The service was the worst we have ever seen no wonder there were no customers in there. we give places like this numerous chance but it has failed in the every aspect of a restaurant. the food [on other visits] was bland and tasteless , it came to the table cold and now poor service. I am quite surprised at the mediocre reviews and rating I see for Uncle Julio's, I had a great time on Friday, 11/15/19 with a friend! My steak quesadilla was flavorful and tender, without any of the fat or gristle you often get with a skirt steak item, and I loved the chips and salsa (the heat sneaks up on you so be warned if you're an extreme lightweight like myself). Our server--Hayley, I believe--was fantastic, bringing my dining companion copious amounts of Diet Coke as he needed them and keeping us well-stocked with the aforementioned chips and salsa as well. Her recommendation of the honey chipotle chicken was also appreciated at the table. The only reason I can't go five stars here was the less than welcoming host staff. Between the three of them at the stand, no one could offer up a friendly smile and also spoke very quietly for such a loud establishment. I announced that I had a reservation and was handed a pager with a mumbled statement that I couldn't decipher and she didn't seem interested in repeating. After hearing about the chocolate pinata, Uncle Julio's was on the list of places to visit asap. I read some reviews prior to going so I knew not to visit anywhere near dinner time because it would likely be packed so we made a reservation (yes, chocolate pinatas deserve that kind of priority!) for a Saturday afternoon and found the experience to be quite perfect. We sat in the sunroom to enjoy the warm, sunny day. Because we went solely for the chocolate pinata (and had just come from a luncheon), I can't speak to the appetizers or entrees but they looked good. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The chocolate lovers pinata though... that was amazing! SOOOO worth it! I was told it was huge but even still skeptical before my daughter broke it. Chocolate on chocolate, mini churros, strawberries, chocolate empanada bites (OMG!), more chocolate and caramel sauce too?! YUMMMMM! We gave it our very best effort to finish this monstrosity but eventually slowed down to giving in and taking home the rest for later that day. I came here with coworkers over lunch and again today (Tuesday) after work. For lunch, there were like 8 of us and the food was good but one person's order was wrong and needed to be remade. This time I just went with a friend and everything was good but I got the wrong tortillas and we waited over 30 minutes for our second round of drinks. We literally were paying the bill and the drinks suddenly arrived. I guess I would go back because the food is tasty and it's in a convenient location, but the service can definitely be up-skilled. I've driven past this location of the chain many times and finally decided to stop in. It was pretty good. Nothing special. Polite servers and a decent menu of things. Not super vegetarian friendly but not bad. So, you might ask why I'm even bothering reviewing a meh place. Come to think of it, I'm not sure. I actually don't recall what I had or if it was anything more than average. That's not a good sign. But, I don't remember hating it either. And, this was just last week. Uncle Julio's is known for their Mexican dishes made from scratch. From guacamole to aged and smoked meats. The menu offers Tex-mex, fajitas, and other dish varieties. We had a large group with reservations for a birthday. Our waiter did their best to manage our large group along with other surrounding tables. He was personable, humorous, and attentive. Warm, freshly made tortillas chips and salsa filled the table. They were delicious. I ordered the barbacoa beef fajitas and my husband got steak fajitas. It came with corn tortillas, black beans, and cilantro rice. I liked the zucchini, squash, peppers, and onion mix to top the beef fajitas. You get a large sized portion which makes great for left overs. We both liked our meals! A chocolate piñata was ordered for the birthday girl. It was a hardened rich chocolate ball filled with fresh pineapple, strawberries, and churro pieces. There was freshly made whip cream and melted chocolate. She got a wooden stick to break open the chocolate piñata. It was a unique dessert! This place was a unique experience to be had again. read more
