Bueno Y Sano is a casual Mexican-inspired restaurant focused on burritos, bowls, quesadillas, and…read morecustomizable meals with a variety of ingredients and dietary options. We walked into a space that feels centered around quick, fresh meals where you can build something based on your preferences. The interior is bright and functional, with a relaxed, unpretentious energy that makes it a convenient spot for a filling meal rather than a traditional sit-down Mexican restaurant experience. The layout is practical and efficient, designed for counter ordering and quick turnover, and the steady flow of students and locals reflects its role as a neighborhood staple for a fast, hearty bite. The burritos are the main highlight. They are generously portioned and have a good mix of fillings, making them a satisfying option when you want something hearty. We ordered a few different combinations and found the chicken and steak options well seasoned, with the fillings layered evenly so each bite had a good balance of protein, rice, beans, and sauces. The different combinations allow for a lot of variety, and options like vegetarian fillings and different salsas make it easy to customize. The quesadillas also stood out as a strong choice, especially because the cheese and fillings work well together, with the tortilla getting a nice crispness on the griddle that added texture to the melted filling. The menu has a wide range of options, including vegetarian and other alternative choices, giving the restaurant more flexibility compared to places that only focus on a few standard items. Some dishes can feel like they need extra seasoning or sauce depending on what you order, but the ability to customize helps balance that, with the salsa bar offering a range of heat levels and flavors to dial in the meal to your preference. The service and atmosphere are simple and casual. The space has a relaxed feel that works well for students, quick lunches, or an easy meal in the area, and the ordering process is straightforward with the restaurant focusing more on speed and convenience than a full dining experience. The staff handle the steady flow efficiently, and the food comes out without much delay. Bueno Y Sano is a solid option for burritos and customizable Mexican-inspired food. The portion sizes, variety of choices, and relaxed atmosphere make it a reliable spot when you want a filling meal, offering a quick, satisfying option that works well for a casual lunch or a simple dinner without the formality of a traditional restaurant.

Bueno Y Sano is a well-known employee owned business that has been in Amherst Center for more than…read more20 years. I have visited many times in the last two, and I am proud to report how delicious the restaurant's foods are, how they have a variety of prices on the menu for any taste, and how their horchata is delicious. First of all, be mindful that there's limited accessibility into Bueno y Sano. There's steps leading up into a dual pull doorways, which is nice and quaint in historic Amherst. Inside, there are also steps leading from the entrance up to the clerks' cash register and kitchen along with salsas, a soda machine, a freezer, and the restrooms. There's still outside dining if you can visit with a friend who can help get your meal inside. The quality is absolutely worth it. Bueno y Sano has likely been around for so long because their meals are consistently bright, rich, and flavorful. Keeping cilantro fresh has been a challenge for me, since I surely could use it more. For Bueno y Sano, they must have some of the freshest vegetables in the valley to consistently cook and serve them tightly wrapped in durable but soft burrito tortillas. There are many other options on the menu if you'd prefer other flavors, too, as I recall an Asian-like burrito on the menu, as well as a beyond-beef grilled burrito. Yes, there's salads and more, I perhaps, just enjoy their burritos too much to choose another! I didn't mention the horchata again simply because it's another beloved flavor on their menu of drinks. One day, when I'm a traveled expert in horchata, I'm sure I'll come back to tell you why Bueno's *es tan bueno.*

Thin, salty, WARM chips and fresh guac. Service was great at the bar, and a pitcher of margaritas was just right. Around 3 drinks for $20, 1 1/2 each was perfect. The pitcher was filled with ice, as were our punt glasses, but there was probably 3 shots of tequila anyway.

They did. So I came back a THIRD time and ordered it AGAIN, just to see if they can still keep their vegan cheese melted just right on top. It was incredible, AGAIN. Now that I've gotten this out of the way, ask where it is on their new menu as it is under revision--I don't like the tempeh version as much. Onto the rest of the atmosphere of Cushman. One of the most pleasant features of Cushman Market and Cafe is that it is nestled at an important corner in northeast Amherst. You need to travel further west to get to The Mill District and not much opens there early, and there's little else I can recall in the other cardinal directions. It's a pleasant trip, with plenty of parking in front, behind, and in a strip of side road across the street. I've never been in the market, so let me keep talking about the Cafe. The atmosphere of the Cafe is wonderful, with locals, safety officers, and regulars all visiting at each meal hour from breakfast to lunch. Nestled inside what looks like an old barn, complete with doors still hanging, Cushman has memorabilia from decades of music, sports, politics, and news frozen under acrylic, different for many of their tables. The café seems to have at most 20 chairs, and the staff behind the counter will deliver it to your table, call your name, or leave other orders by a stand near the back entrance. Cushman Cafe offers a variety of meals, alongside baked goods and freshly mixed café drinks. While I'm not a fan of the switcherels, I have enjoyed their dirty Chai lattes, iced teas, fresh coffees, and free water if I recall in a pinch. They have gender neutral bathrooms--which is great if you're tired of waiting in line for one of two as they are large but single occupancy. They offer cold panini sandwiches, hot panini, all sorts of eggs, egg sandwiches, and egg breakfasts, vegan and vegetarian options, alongside a seemingly visible carnivorous focus for their new menu's default. If you had a chance to hop on a bus and travel around Amherst, or you were passing through to the highways, Cushman Cafe is worth a quick stop. I've rarely had to wait long for my meals even in busy hours, and this is because of the large and competent kitchen, who--if you'll remember--can get a delicious sandwich right any day of the week. I hope cell service returns there!
