I reached out to a friend who is car-savvy for advice on where to take it, and he pointed me here. The scheduler was super friendly and efficient and got me on the books a few days after my call. The vibe was completely different than the dealership, as I felt like the folks at Max Automotive genuinely cared about getting me taken care of and figuring what the issue was with the vehicle. They also understood that at over 20 years old and nearly 200,000 miles, I wasn't going to perform any heroics for this car. We came up with a good plan to keep the car running for as long as possible with as minimal maintenance as possible. I look forward to working with the team here for maintenance of my new old car.

How wrong I was. After having it several days, they tell me that they can't fix the original problem because they "Couldn't find the part - and wouldn't install an after-market part off of Ebay" (My car is a 1999 w/ low mileage) Then the real Clinker after 3 days: They call and say, "We couldn't fix your problem, but come and get your truck and pay Christian Bro's nearly $200 bucks for a "diagnostic" that I WAS NOT INFORMED UP FRONT would cost anything at all! But also, this 'Diagnostic' informs me that my truck needs OVER $4300 DOLLARS in servicings and repairs - Including NEW BRAKES that, apparently the "Diagnostic expert" wasn't aware had been replaced by them on that very truck a few months earlier! I felt totally taken advantage of and complained to the manager, John, who gave me some "yada yada" and stated that that particular employee working the front desk was fired - However, and this is the whole point of the story - This manager of this multi-million dollar, allegedly 'Christian', gold-mine on the corner of Thunderbird & 75th Ave would NOT refund all, or any part, of this deceitful charge with a humble apology for their unscrupulous employee (note: Failure to disclose a COST right up front is a LIE ) Not only that, but Upsell #1 opened the door for MEGA-UPSELL #2 of $4,319 dollars! I STILL look back at this lengthy report with shock and awe. According to this diagnostic that I didn't ask for, there's no reason, whatsoever, my truck is still able to roll down the street. According to them, practically EVERYTHING on my vehicle is on it's last couple of miles.; Lastly, and final insult to my patronage, my age, my intelligence, nor would Christian Brothers even offer a discount or a half-off on the next visit to them. None that I was able to say. Yep, this is what my expectations are. When our 2015 Dodge Journey check engine light came on I needed a mechanic. The sooner the better. I never expected the negative situation to turn into very positive one. From the first call the customer service was flawless. Very friendly and welcoming. I was able to get it in the same day. When I explained I did not have a ride home I was offered a ride although I'm sure that may not be the norm. Little did I know. It was a perfect opportunity to meet another member of the team and learn a bit about the shop. When I dropped off the vehicle we spoke about doing a close inspection as our warranty is expiring soon. They not only fixed the electrical problem causing the check engine light but found other repairs covered under our warranty that needed to be done. Communication was spot on. Keeping me updated on progress and an idea on pricing the whole way. Then a call when completed. Although the warranty covered the repairs. I looked over the invoice carefully and the pricing was still fantastic. I was able to get several repairs that would have cost over $3000 done for my $100 deductible. I have since taken in our other vehicle. It has almost 250,000 miles on it. Needless to say it is not under warranty. The customer service level and pricing was again flawless. I had several repairs at a price well below what I expected. It will now pass emissions and ready for several thousand more miles. I am sure they could have nickel and dimed me with repairs worth more then the car. After 20 years in the customer service industry I appreciate excellent service. After what was described as a diagnostic, Justin immediately recommended a full transmission replacement--without walking through other common, less expensive causes like control module or valve body issues. What's frustrating is that Gemba's own messaging says they focus on root-cause diagnostics, transparency, and avoiding unnecessary upsells: "We fix the root cause... No pressure. Just the truth." That wasn't my experience. I wasn't shown clear proof or given alternative options before being told I needed one of the most expensive repairs possible. After a routine oil change, I was also suddenly told I now need an oil pressure switch, which raises additional concerns - are they manufacturing problems to drive ticket value? I've since heard similar experiences from others being told they need full transmissions as well, which makes this feel less like a case-by-case diagnosis. I recommend getting a second opinion before committing to major repairs here.
