I finally made my visit here to Hola Swim! Thank goodness for social media & knowing one of the…read moregals who has modeled items for Hola Swim. The thing is- I'm seriously the type of shopper who LIKES to see items worn on people & mannequins! Lol This just personally helps me visually. So, I do follow Hola Swim on Instagram (I suggest YOU should too!). The reason I waited this long is because in a few weeks, we're going to a destination wedding in Dominican Republic- and the timing to shop here worked out perfect. This brick & mortar location has been here for a few months. And, every time I've either drove by or walked by- it was closed. BUT, there's a sign posted on the door that says- CONTACT US FOR APPOINTMENTS! And that's EXACTLY what I did. I did contact Hola Swim via their Instagram- and my request for such day & time was immediately answered & there was no hesitation in accommodating me. Whew! I met Syncletica- one of the owners & she was such a gem to meet. We chatted for some time during my visit here. Her & her best friend AND business partner, Aida, have been best friends since they first met at 15 years old while working at the San Diego Zoo. The garments are LOCALLY made here in SAN DIEGO!!! And, I can seriously say the fabrics on their pieces are quality!!! This is what you are paying for!!! You can feel the thickness & stretchiness of the spandex. And, Syncletica has mentioned that the top material is lined w/ UV 50 protectant! You see- as I've mentioned to her- I would normally purchase swimwear at Target. And if you do to (or any other giant retail store) you now exactly what I'm getting at. You know the condition of their quality & the price you're paying. I bought the velvet teal/ blue hooded one piece swimsuit $90 and I'm super excited to wear it in the Caribbean!! The bikinis go for $60/ $65. And there's other merchandise available too. Visors, towels, jewelry, sunglasses, ball caps! The shop is being renovated w/ new tile & adding shelves for a new look. But, I do wanna share my love for Hola Swim! By the way- they've been invited to New York's Fashion Week (and San Diego's), featured in British Vogue, and now have a spot in Destinations (monthly magazine for Uited Airlines)!!! Support local businesses!!!!!

Love, love, love!…read more I've stopped in here a time or two before while visiting but never purchased. I spent an hour trying on half the store (ha) and the ladies inside are so fun and friendly that it was a joy to shop. They have some very on-trend styles and some cute items and it's loaded with hundreds of items all styled by color (which I LOVE). In the end, I found two beautiful sun dresses as well as two amazing sale items (BOGO) and ended up getting a new dress for $5! They do have a rewards program with sales and specials if you're local, but I don't visit often enough for it to be worth it for me. Great location for shopping and walking and lunching right on the main Orange Ave with free 2-hour parking on the street right in front.

When it comes to threads though, there are only few places that keep me eager and wanting for more, and one of those places is Human Catalyst. The Digs: Tucked in between a brewery and coffee shop in the ever-changing Downtown Chula Vista is where you can find Russell Takashima's humble store front. What I love about this spot is that his storefront keeps it clean and simple, allowing his products to be the main focal point once you step inside. The musical slaps welcome you in and invite you to browse around, eventually leading into genuine conversation and networking with other folks that happen to just stop by. The Product: The message behind the thread harps on the hustle that happens from 5-2-9: the dreams and goals that go beyond our own human restraints (my interpretation, of course). Russ truly catalyzed simple, yet effectively designed streetwear that gets straight to the punch. From hip hop to cars and culture, each piece of clothing invites folks from all ages and walks of life to trade stories at his table. The Why of It All: Community - plain and simple. This unsuspecting joint does so much more than just dish out merch. Russ opens his door and welcomes conversations with EVERYONE. He also invests in others with his time and talents to give back ten-fold to different community events and so much more. So the next time you find yourself strolling through 3rd Ave. and you see Human Catalyst, take some time to check out their website (because COVID :( ) and learn more about the brand. Whether you're browsing around or you're looking to add on to your already extensive collection (and yes, about 2/3 of my closet is pure HC wear), I guarantee you'll gain so much more than just a fresh look.

When I went to get my hat a while later someone had moved it to the floor (yikes) and a plastic cup of Coke had apparently slipped off a window sill above and dumped its contents into my upside down hat. By the time I got there the Coca Cola had been drip drip dripping through the top of the upside down hat and puddling onto the floor. I about threw up when I saw it. I may have said some bad words. I ran to a sink to try and rinse out the horrible brown stain right on the front crown but the damage was done. I thought my negligence had destroyed a $300 hat. That's when I found El Centenario in Chula Vista. They delivered. They washed it, reshaped it, and stiffened it to Stetson factory standards. All for $50. Couldn't be happier. If you wreck your had, trust them with it.
