What drew me in initially was the display of sunglasses by the door. The pair I bought is very similar to Suncloud. The shop also carries Pura Vida bracelets/rings/jewelry, but it was a different jewelry brand that caught my eye. I love palm trees, and they had a necklace that featured three small palm trees on it. Guess that was meant to come home with me, too! They also have lot of apparel. They have all kinds of art, and different mediums. They have the coolest clocks that I can't even begin to describe, you just have to see them. I'm not the richest person you'll meet, so much of the pieces I've seen here and fallen in love with are beyond my budget, but when have you ever visited a gallery and that hasn't been the case? But even though I'm generally a browser not a shopper, I'm still kindly greeted upon each visit and I feel right at home here. The owners here are phenomenal, not only are they experts on every artist they carry, their work, their availability, prices on the secondary market, etc. But they are also down to earth and friendly. It's nice to visit a gallery and find the staff to be approachable. They also have the world's cutest bulldog who works at the gallery with them, I want to take him/her home with me! I'd been wanting to own a piece of Todd White's work for what seemed like forever. I'd visited this gallery time and time again just to admire and wish for the day I'd have more expendable income.. when asking about a few of his pieces the owners informed me that Todd had just released a limited edition of his book, that showcased all of his work up until that point. They kindly got a copy out and let me browse through it. Then they informed me that the book also came with 2 limited editions prints... whoa, what?!? TWO? I almost fell over when they told me the price, $550 for the set, you can't buy one of his limited edition prints right now for less than $1500! Even better, they convinced my boyfriend to buy it for me as a gift. I am now the proud owner of 2 Todd White prints (see my photos), and the book sold out only months later, a fine investment indeed. I love this place! How anyone can give this gallery less than 5 starts is beyond me..

Yes, it's an old warehouse in the city that moves plastic Christmas trees through the internet...not Santa's Village in a forested winter wonderland...but have some self respect. How about a fresh coat of paint? Replace those aging signs that make you doubt the place is still operating when seen from a distance. Better yet, make it fun. Cover that bitch in Christmas lights! The store is called City Lights, for Christ's sake!! Turn that dusty, shady corner of Knoxville where no parent would want to take their kids into a shiny beacon of light that Clark Griswold would approve of; a spectacle worthy of what you got going on, on the inside. Watch She's All That if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm telling you: if you themed the outside, your foot traffic would do nothing but sky rocket. Every kid staring out the window of their parents car on the 5 freeway will be begging to "stop at the Christmas store please mommy". Eventually, mom caves, sees all the cool shit you got inside, and viola: women be shoppin'. Tourists leaving Sea World. Desensitized residents of Bay Park who don't even see you anymore because you blend into the earth like another homeless encampment. All these people will give you their money if you make them want to step inside. Make Morena sparkle again...like the Sea World tower. Armstrong fixed the front of this mullet of a street. It looks so welcoming. Now, it's time to cleanup the back (Coronado, you could cleanup that building on the very end, too...and plant some nice bushes above the parking lot guys). Make Santa Proud. From the dusty framed and wrapped posters of Native American women in various stages of being clothed, to the absolutely essential amazing working toilet that really flushes, this location is wonderful for just the relief you will feel after walking through the show floor like a person on a mission to drop the 10lb deuce that a breakfast burrito from Nico's would induce. Be sure to not look at any City Lights employee in the eyes on your way out. Wash your hands first and peruse the year long Christmas displays. No place can be perfect but on this little end of Knoxville Street, you can't beat it. Once you step out into the Bay Park air, treat yourself to a cold beer mere steps away at Coronado Brewing Co. But, don't expect their bathrooms to have the same charm as City Lights. Their urinal is often out of order. City Lights is a delightful store that is more than just a Christmas (and all other holidays) store. Its roof is also home to several downed drones from the jokesters who used to "build microscopes" next door. But like those downed drones, you too can make your way to City Lights and stay a while.
