I ended up attending this event with my wifey and other family. Finding this place was difficult only because I was given bad directions and no address. Parking is scarce likely because of the event, but found with moderate effort. I walked up to the place and loved the vibe. There was live music playing near the entrance and the art expo was easy to find with all of the signs pointing out the way. I was extremely impressed with the talent that these high school seniors displayed in their art. The art presented included: photos, sculptures, and paintings. There were a lot of exhibits and they were all fascinating in their own way. It was a free event, but the school could have easily gotten away with charging for it to raise some money. The place was pretty packed and in certain areas people were nearly shoulder to shoulder. It was cool to see this art. The positive vibes from Reg and Izzy were what we needed to have a successful chunky blanket session. The instruction by Reg was very good and she was on point with analogies to help us all better understand and visualize what we needed to do. Example, "Two big bunny ears...new bunny eats old bunny, then create another new bunny.." for the braiding edge technique. This was overall AWESOME! I highly recommend groups of 5-9 people to participate in this awesome chunky blanket class. Parking is better 2 blocks away in the residential neighborhood, and free. After our chunky blanket class, we shopped their awesome jewelry bar. They have so many beautiful earrings and charm bracelets. They will even attach the charms that you purchase onto your bracelet, bonus!

Ahead of time we all picked out what we wanted to make, and what we wanted to the design to look like. When we arrived there's a couple of tables all setup with our project we picked out all ready for us. We get a little schpeal about what kind of paint to pick and then we can pick out our colors and get to work. It was so much fun and so easy (I'm not creative, but was very easy to follow the stencils). We also brought our own food and drinks and while our paint was drying we could walk around and munch and chat with everyone. I have already been chatting with my girlfriends about coming back to do an event together.

This was my first visit to The Studio, a gallery tucked away in Hillcrest, and I was genuinely impressed. They showcase a wide range of artists, and it's especially great to see so many talented creatives from San Diego getting the spotlight. The featured show we saw was by Lance Chung, whose work beautifully captures dancers in motion. His pieces feel like stepping into a dream or a fairytale. They are whimsical, expressive, and just plain mesmerizing. Beyond the main exhibit, the gallery opens up into multiple rooms featuring other artists, so you can wander and discover even more creativity. One artist showcased pottery and mentioned she hosts group pottery classes. Honestly, such a fun idea for a birthday or team event. All in all, it was an immersive and inspiring experience that I'd happily do again.

So.... We immediately made a reservation for a class and got a private class 2 weeks later. And here we are... The class was so fun! We started with a clump of clay and ended up with wonderful, functional, and pieces of art. Our teacher, Leah, was a great teacher! She was patient and explained everything! She had the perfect balance of teaching and then letting us work the clay a little of our own way. She kept us on track so we actually made 2 very unique pots. Very unique is my way of saying crooked and lopsided but lots of character. Lol We had a solid hour and got to work a few different pieces. For the price and friendliness and fun, I suggest this class for beginners or any level really. Oh! And check out the awesome pottery for sale! Leah is an amazing artist with some very nice pieces for sale.

You get two blobs of clay that you can make two items with. Maggie was super friendly and patient with explaining the process and helping us fix anything we messed up on. The price includes firing and glazing one of the two. You can pay an additional $15 to fire the second one. For the glaze they had a bunch of different colors which was nice. Shop is pretty small. There's 6 stations total for people to work at. Also only street parking so plan ahead.

I…read morestumbled upon Teralta via their sister organization, Ceramic Arts, because we were interested in taking some sort of pottery class. We found that Ceramic Arts had "Wheel Time" where we can get an hour on the wheel just practicing and making anything we want, but they booked up pretty far out and we wanted to do this sooner. So, they directed us to Teralta Art. I was skeptical to book with Teralta at first since I like to see reviews of places before paying for it, but I am so glad I gave them a chance (if you're reading this and thinking the same thing -- DO IT!). We booked the 1-hour "Wheel Time" session where we got to play on the wheel. It was a Friday afternoon and we had such a pleasant experience with Maggie. She helped us center the clay on the wheel a couple of times and gave us tips on what to do, what types of things to make, some techniques, etc. We also chatted about Teralta's mission and I was so inspired by their vision. If you haven't seen on their website yet, they are a non-profit creating and increasing access to art for kids in the City Heights community. She told us more about this and I think it is a great addition to the larger San Diego community. The one hour flew by quickly! The next steps are that they will fire and glaze our work for us, then we can pick it up in 3 weeks. We got to choose the colors for them. Our experience here was so fun and positive, and I would absolutely recommend this activity to anyone! What a great evening!! Attended a painting session last night with my posse of 7. We laughed, some…read morecried (haha) but we ALL had a great time bringing out our inner Picasso! Great stress relief for the moms in our group! Love that we can bring our own snacks and beverages (and no corkage fees). There are many paintings on the wall so you can see what others have created. Dora was our instructor and she was great. She took her time showing us how to create our masterpieces! I loved how she reminded us to take a drink to help us relax and not stress over our work! Fun time meeting new people and at the end seeing how different everyone's artwork turned out! Some even took liberties and invented new animals....spotted hyena-giraffe (Sandra!)! Haha Parking is the only issue but if you arrive early you shouldn't have to spend too much time looking. Try parking in the neighborhoods behind the studio. Some parked in the Vons parking lot but I advise against it as there are signs you will be towed. Thanks for a great time Dora!! We all had a blast and we will be back!!
