I have to go with a solid 3 stars on this place. Even a 3.4 stars. It's not drop dead phenomenal and it's not horrible. This place is literally floating around in the safe part of the pool. Definitely good enough for a local establishment but I wouldn't tell my buddy who lives 40 minutes away he needs to come here. You see where this is going I think. We got the XL order of wings (20 wings) for a family of four, I got the shrimp bun (which came with 2) and a side of fries for our youngest, of course. Let's start with the shrimp bun. It was a shrimp tempura on the equivalent of a Chinese bao, piece of lettuce and some type of sauce. I ate one of them and was honestly uninterested in the second one. The shrimp was ok. Nothing special. I'm not a big tempura person but not against it. The bao was a little too sweet for me and the sauce just wasn't for me. I can't put my finger on what kind of sauce it was. As for the wings, we got half sweet and spicy and half soy garlic. Wings had a nice crunch to them. The downfall was the fact that there was just too much sauce on it. I personally think it was unnecessary and would've been better and tastier with less. The sweet and spicy was a great combination. Somehow just as the heat kicked in after a bite, it was immediately countered with a sweet sensation. It offset each other perfectly and was very tasty. Again, I wish they didn't put so much on it. The soy garlic was very good. My wife actually enjoyed this one more than the sweet and spicy. Flavor was very good but would've been better if there wasn't so much sauce. I'm pretty sure you're getting the gist that they could've held back on the sauce. There was a salt and pepper rub as well that we didn't try. Wings weren't skimpy, howeverssss... they were battered well & appears its got that Popeye flaky crunch. Sadly though, the gooey sauce which appeared like orange duck sauce was drizzled onto them and made the wings soggy. And the cole slaw had a tang that was off, had flavor but had an end taste that tasted slightly metallic. Honestly, I've tasted better KFC. So my review is based mostly on the food because my husband picked it up, so I never got the chance to visit the store or interact with them. So, the shrimp Buns were eh. One order came with 2...so perfect to share but it was literally a shrimp tempura in a bun with lettuce, red onions and their spicy mayo sauce. I didn't find anything special about it. I think they need to add more umph in the sauce because it wasn't spicy at all. It wasn't bad....it just didn't wow me. As for the salt and vinegar wings....well they were good....but I'm not raving over it. I did love how it wasn't greasy, it was crispy and the seasoning was good. If you like breaded chicken, they had a good balance on the breading. Eat it with their white rice.....can't go wrong with chicken and rice. My kids had the boneless chicken wings and I DID NOT LIKE THEM and they didn't either. They were VERY dry. I wouldn't order these again and pick up from Bon Chon....it was nothing close to them. I like the size of the flats and drums. they are a little but smaller than the regular chicken wings you would get from restaurant chains, but it is so tender and flavorful. I just visited my favorite Korean fried chicken restaurant again, and as expected, everything was excellent. Their super crispy Korean style fried chicken wings in their incredible sweet and spicy sauce are so good that I regularly drive 30 minutes just to eat that one item. Tonight I got a taste of something new. Yes, I had the wings, but the owner also offered me a sample of a new item he's planning to add to the menu - a batter dipped, fried, hard boiled egg in a steamed bun, w/cabbage, spicy mayo and okonomi sauce. As with the other steamed buns on the menu they will come two to and order. I don't know what the price will be, but I imagine it will be in same range as the shrimp, chicken and beef buns that are currently on the menu for $5.95, and I really hope this does make it onto the regular menu, because it was delicious. My first thought was, "Why would I want a fried hard boiled egg bun, when I could have a freshly made shrimp tempura bun for the same price?"... then I tasted it. The egg inside the batter was perfect. I wish I could make a hard boiled egg that tasted like this. It was boiled just to the point where it wasn't quite fully cooked, and the heat from the deep fryer does the rest. The result is a smooth and creamy center with an outside that's just firm enough. The batter gives it a wonderful crunchy shell that stands up to the spicy mayo and okonomi sauce. Fresh cabbage and a fluffy steamed bun round out the affair. As you can see from the picture it is a bit messy, so wash your hands first, because you will be licking your fingers; trust me on this. If you get to Chickenple before this item appears on the menu, be sure to ask for it. read more

I also got an order of sweet potato fries (!!) for $2.50, which came with a yummy sweet sauce. You have a choice of 3 sauces: soy garlic, sweet and spicy, and salt and pepper. I opted for the soy garlic, and my friend just barely made it to pick up the order at 9:00PM. I didn't even get the take a picture because I was so hungry that we just dug in which honestly NEVER HAPPENS. It just smelled so good, and they were amazingggggg. The drumsticks are HUGE.
